I actually revisited this game a few weeks ago and I still love it to death. As for the suicide squad game, I am actually looking forward to it but i don't have super high expectations. I do like that the gameplay looks pretty different from the traditional Arkham gameplay. I have never been super crazy about the combat in the Arkham games so Suicide Squad looks interesting and refreshing to me. But I wont let my expectations get too high.
If you want to spice up the combat. Try mixing in your devices more. Trying to get in the explosive gel, electro shock, the ice gadgets on top of your main gadgets in flow with your 4 different combo finishers and the different stun moves really makes you feel like a tactical force.
Arkham City is a Masterpiece and the pinnacle of not only the trilogy but the genre as a whole imo. Excellent story excellent setting excellent characters voice acting and dialogue. The graphics were stellar for the time and the gameplay still holds up as astounding.
I will say, as someone who's played probably hundreds of hours in the riddler's challenges for the combat maps, I have a big issue with the combat system. Still amazing and really fun, but I feel like sometimes the game fucks me over and breaks my combo for no reason. Like the character Im playing as can literally travel across the map to hit a guy, to keep the combo going, but there have been so many instances where I am surrounded by guys, or directly facing a guy, and my character(well into a 100+ hit combo) will punch the air. For literally no reason at all. This has happened many times, and I can't identify it as anything I'm doing wrong, I'm always pointing towards the enemy I want to hit, always pressing the right buttons, but for some reason the character will throw a kick into air, and my combo will be gone. So annoying.
The same thing happens in Asylum too. It might have to do with the game trying to track on a different enemy then the one you're aiming for and it conflicts with the system so you end of punching the air.
Luke, thank you for this video whenever I look back at Arkham city it just feels like one big animated series episode and I love it for that. Not to mention all the references to the series in there. I also loved the promo art for this game with the all white. I remember going into gs before the game came out and that art was the only thing that stuck out in the store.
Batman Arkham City Was My First Open World On Xbox 360, the world was so dark and gritty, I adored it, the score is absolutely breathtaking, and of course an excellent cast of voice actors like Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, Troy Baker, Nolan North and more!, the Arkham franchise is so immersive and interesting, I love it so much and will always be in my heart.
Personally, I feel this is the best in the series. Perfect balance of combat/stealth skills, exploration, art, puzzles. It felt like the most tightly designed game of all three. And even compared to many other games.
Arkham City is one of the greatest videogames I’ve ever played it took what Asylum did and turned it up to 11. Seriously the characters, story, music, everything was perfect
Batman Arkham origins is in the same timeline as the rocksteady games and rocksteady acknowledges it in Arkham knight. Feel how you want about it but it’s a very good Batman game and it’s part of the Arkham verse
As a kid, I didn’t know about in game maps, so this place was a huge maze to me, and the only way I progressed through the story was the hot\cold meter, I really felt like I was discovering things, it was cool
I would like to see Rocksteady make another Batman game. Asylum and City are two of my favorite games. Knight’s Batmobile battles are flawed but it’s still a pretty good game as well.
This is one of my favorite games ever! I've played it so many times, specially on my old laptop where I had to play it in a 4:3 resolution at like 20fps lol. But I still played it so many times, I too really wanted to go off gliding into the larger Gotham city. The map felt huge back then but yeah, it is pretty small nowdays. Arkham Knight's does too feel small. Arkham City is probably my favorite one of the bunch, alongside this Batman being my favorite too. There's just so much to love here. But at least as of now, I really hate the idea that rocksteady has spent like 7 years making a suicide squad game. I mean really? When they could be making a Superman game, or a Justice League game, or heck even a Swamp Thing game would be better! I'm not excited at all for the game. Maybe that can change, but I honestly would prefer they do something else.
Fun Fact: Catwoman's second mission takes place around the same time Batman enters the Steel Mill, which is 9 hours before Protocol 10. Her third mission ends at the beginning of Protocol 10. That means that Poison Ivy had her upside for around 8 or 9 hours. 🤣
First off, really enjoy your videos man! I wanted to mention that I bought the PS3 version day one from Walmart. It had the Catwoman DLC right from the beginning. I know you mention that if you got this from anywhere other than GS, you couldn’t play it.
i am actually still excited for the suicide squad game, it feels like it's gonna be way more fun in terms of story and characters than the previous main dc games we've gotten. it might not be better than the arkham games but at least it'll be different. i hope it'll be able to balance all of the different playable characters well so that one doesn't feel more or less polished than the others.
Or it's going to be like Avengers where 4 characters are all punching one damage spongy bad guy at the same time so you have no idea what's going on and team mates will kill your combos by hitting the enemy you're currently fighting. I wish they would have done anything other than Suicide Squad. DC thought Suicide Squad and Harley Quinn were going to be their next big IP after the 2nd movie so they put Rocksteady onto Suicide Squad. That plan hasn't really worked out and they couldn't scrap another Rocksteady game (Suicide Squad is not the first game they've worked on since Arkham. They got a couple years of development into something else before that got scrapped and they were told they had to make a Suicide Squad game). It's Rocksteady, so maybe they'll pull a miracle out of their ass, but my hopes are low.
@@ChaseSchleich imagine thinking rocksteady will make a game as bad as avengers…. That game from the get go did not look good. Every thing I’ve seen from suicide squad looks mikes better then avengers ever has so far.
@@luckyraygun1607 Everything you've seen? There's been one trailer and that was a year ago. Any future trailer will have very carefully executed game play so it doesn't look like 4 players beating on one damage sponge enemy, but when the game actually releases and real people are playing it, that's what's going to happen. 4 player melee combat is very difficult to pull off. I just have very little hope for Suicide Squad or for Gotham Knights (especially Gotham Knights). If it's great, then that's awesome, but I'm not expecting it to even be passable.

Arkham Origins was about how Black Gate Prison was I’ll equipped to handle the likes of the crazy villains vs the mobb villains which lead to the opening of Asylum. It continues the ark as well
Arkham City was the first game I ever preordered, the collectors edition with my own money (Being a teen at the time). I remember the moment I brought it home, unpacked the box and the statue, booted it up and just lost myself in it. Probably one of the best preorder experiences I had, I rarely preorder games these days because of the state of triple A games, the last great few preorder experiences I had was Arkham Knight collectors for the Ps4, the Witcher 3 Wild Hunt (both in 2015).
Also regarding size. That small distance you glide at the beginning of the game. From the ace chemicals building to the courthouse is basically the distance of that entire district
I beat this game twice back when I was in junior high school and a few months ago I did another playthrough and the game was just as fun and as beautiful as I remember. Truly a timeless game. It's a shame Arkham Knight didn't live up to this.
32:17 I'm just realizing how nuts the nemesis system would be in a batman game, and crazy part is WB owns that system so it's literally perfect placement, they'll be using it for Wonder Woman but imagine for a batman game that would be so cool Edit, I typed this before continuing the video, did realize you said it already but still, it would be so cool
I remember almost 100% the game but I never got the Catwoman DLC so I was never fully able to complete it until a few years later. Which was really crazy! My Xbox 360 didn’t have WiFi either. And I totally remember wanting to glide through the city in the background! I even looked up and attempted to use a bug which allows you to float and fly through the buildings! You used the freeze grenade I believe! I think why this city felt so expensive since it was likely one of the bigger open world AAA game many people would experience (myself included). Nowadays, various studios can do it, but back then, it was probably more rare.
when harley quinn comes running towards you (13:58) instead of a counter you can also throw a punch and knock her right down. Also regarding Penguin's monocle, he is told removing it would be fatal, but later on in his tapes Strange says he could remove it, someone I assume could successfully perform the procedure, but Penguin refuses as he thinks it makes him look tough.
2nd game I ever played. Best story telling and combat. Have finished this game 10+ times. And all the other games in the service I've beat 2 or 3 times. Will definitely make my kids play this 20 years down the line.
I actually played all 4 Arkham games for the first time finally a few months back and they definitely still hold up. Had a great time running through those. Even in 2022. Would love 60 fps patch though for Arkham Knight.

Thanks for the great video brother. Arkham city is one of my favorite games. Did you know there is a secret dialogue with joker if you choose to linger in the bell tower before escaping? Keep it up with the amazing work mate! God bless you and your family. Stay safe.
Absolutely beautiful experience. I played both Arkham Asylum and City during the pandemic on my PS4 and the performance was way worse than I remembered. That sucks but the game is a goldie for sure.
With the church tower bomb scene, you can technically stay after the countdown, Joker will have extra dialogue about him having more plans for you. He'll urge you to leave and not wanting you to die just yet.
23:00 There is one good thing they did. Ifd you owned the game on PC and Live for Windows went down, you could send a Photo of your game media (DVD in my case) to support and they gave you a Steam key.
In my opinion, the reason to punch Penguin, outside of the early catharsis for players to get a free hit on one of the bosses, it closes a plot hole. If you leave Penguin conscious then he's able to see Bruce Wayne parcour his way onto the roof and never questions that this billionaire who just beat up his crew, can run up walls and break his cuffs AND arrives the same night batman does. I guess the punch probably rattles his mind a bit and he starts to second guess if he really saw bruce doing all that.
You know what's not gonna be amazing in 10 Years time the new god of war game with chests rpg elements, grindy combat and restricted movement will not make you wanna play it again. These old games were simpler and had depth at the same time and shorter in length with quality content unlike modern bloated games.
I really am grateful for my experiences with the Arkham games, especially from a technical perspective. I recently played through all 4 titles on PC without issue. Aside from the nVidea Interactive Smoke in Knight. That breaks things still sadly.
I wonder how they'll implement that. It made sense in the 'Shadow' series, because you literally can't stay dead, so it makes sense for the enemies to kill you and for you to come back. Are the thugs just gonna knock you out every time?
@@monthebiff I think it's more related to the game itself creating enemies rather than us dying to the hands of a random thug which then creates a new captain. For example the second we start the game it generates a bunch of named enemies who we can interact with and affect over the course of the game. Maybe we can be knocked out for example Robin could have a safety device that teleports him away if he's been knocked out in combat.
Arkham City has great lore and a fantastic open world. I’ve played the story about 6 times haven’t finished Asylum or played Origins but played the story of Knight and almost all of the side activities except the Mad Hatter and Riddler ones.
It looks awesome. Is way more important the artistic design and having good professionals in every department of the project who can optimize everything for the tecnology that you have than the technology itself.
I played this game so much I can recite the entire campaign story, dialogue by dialogue, from "Wake up Mr. Wayne, we have much to discuss" down to the Joker's last laugh.

The thing that bothers me about Penguin's monocle, is that it's a bottom of a beer bottle...... think about that for a minute. Someone in a bar fight (most likely drunk) took the time to break the bottle, then grab the bottom, and then shove it in Penguin's face. Not exactly what I call a natural occurrence. Penguin must have been standing perfectly still. Or maybe someone held him down. (It's been awhile since I played this game, so I forgot if the game gave out the specific details)
I hold Arkham city very near & dear as well. In 2011 I was not a gamer at all, I had only grown up playing movie tie in games like Harry Potter & lord of the rings. And then around 2009/2010 I made some friends that were playing the call of duty of those times and I remember being blown away by the graphics. I was like damn games really have come a long way…and then I moved across the country in late 2010, and didn’t have any friends. I tried the call of duty games but they just weren’t for me they couldn’t hold my attention. So I had an Xbox 360 with nothing to do with it…and then I remember seeing the incredible marketing for Arkham City, the black and white photos and amazing trailers. I loved the Christopher Nolan movies, so I had my mom take me on Black Friday to get City and it was one of the only copies lol I played it and it completely changed my life, I immediately had to get Skyrim & many others because of that one game I had become an official gamer. I also 100% completed city as well haha
The catwoman DLC was available everywhere, but it was only included with a pre-order. Otherwise you had to pay $10. I'm so glad someone agrees, the nemesis system would fit so well with an Arkham game.
This is a perfect game for the Steam Deck. Been playing the entire Arkham series again on Deck and the first 3 games run at max settings 60fps. It's magnificent.
Even with the story & tone being dark you still have a great time playing the game. There’s some funny dialogue while roaming around Arkham City or in the narrative itself.
According to Victor Zsasz in one of the phone calls on his side mission, Penguins bottle cap monocle was given to him because of a gambling bar fight in the iceberg lounge. One of his angry customers that couldnt lodged a broken beer bottle in his face.
The Suicide Squad game could be fun (particularly playing as Harley and Deathstroke), but I would also like Rocksteady to make that Superman game people have been asking for years. I mean, in Arkham Knight there were plenty of indications that Superman exists, with them mentioning the freak from Metropolis and Lex Luthor calling Bruce Wayne and several other references. In short, I would like to play as Superman one of these days.

I do like that the gameplay looks pretty different from the traditional Arkham gameplay. I have never been super crazy about the combat in the Arkham games so Suicide Squad looks interesting and refreshing to me. But I wont let my expectations get too high.
I still need to go back and play this game, it was so much fun.
If you want to spice up the combat. Try mixing in your devices more. Trying to get in the explosive gel, electro shock, the ice gadgets on top of your main gadgets in flow with your 4 different combo finishers and the different stun moves really makes you feel like a tactical force.
Yea I feel like he completely missed that
Arkham City is a Masterpiece and the pinnacle of not only the trilogy but the genre as a whole imo.
I'd say this isnt special to city but all arkham games, happens to the best of us.
Man i love this game so much. Thanks for revisiting it.
You should be in the millions of subs man, love the videos such dedication and detailed reviews of everything
Arkham asylum has the best story. Arkham Knight has the best combat. But Arkham city gave the best balance of both
arkham city was one of my favourite games growing up thank you for this review thus far it’s been very good
Personally, I feel this is the best in the series.
Hmmmmmm. No...
Yes
I was obsessed with this game as a kid. I would do non-stop speedruns everyday. This was the ONLY game I played for a good chunk of time.
The character model of Catwoman. My god.
Arkham series was just an amazing series. Strong writing and ideas. Got me thinking at going at it again, lol.
I love the new thumbnail styles bro so minimalistic but catch my eyes all the time!
14:00 he does not know the miscariage theory
Dude i just wanted to say that i love your videos. Arkham batman will always be special. I really hope we will see sth like these games again
The monocle is actually a broken end of a bottle that black mask shoved into his eye in a bar fight. If he removed it he’d lose his eye
One of my favs ever! Arkham City is something special.
First off, really enjoy your videos man! I wanted to mention that I bought the PS3 version day one from Walmart. It had the Catwoman DLC right from the beginning. I know you mention that if you got this from anywhere other than GS, you couldn’t play it.
I guess the cause of the freezing during the suit up section is because it needed to load the achievement, as you get an achievement for suiting up
Yes, i remember having the same issue on my laptop back when it came out. Remember seeing people say the same thing on forums.
25:50 that impression is great😂
I totally need to replay this eventually. I’ve only played it once
i am actually still excited for the suicide squad game, it feels like it's gonna be way more fun in terms of story and characters than the previous main dc games we've gotten. it might not be better than the arkham games but at least it'll be different. i hope it'll be able to balance all of the different playable characters well so that one doesn't feel more or less polished than the others.
@@ChaseSchleich damn didn’t know you played the game but good for you
@@ChaseSchleich not like their have been multiple coop games before that have been successful but you seem to know what your talking about so I’ll take your word and believe suicide squad will be ass….. lmao gtfo niggas like you are annoying as hell
I’ll take a smaller, more condensed, better designed open world over a massive map with a million repetitive tasks any day.
Arkham City is 10/10 for me. Arkham City IMO has the best combat system in the Arkham games.
💯💯💯
I beat this game twice back when I was in junior high school and a few months ago I did another playthrough and the game was just as fun and as beautiful as I remember. Truly a timeless game. It's a shame Arkham Knight didn't live up to this.
32:17 I'm just realizing how nuts the nemesis system would be in a batman game, and crazy part is WB owns that system so it's literally perfect placement, they'll be using it for Wonder Woman but imagine for a batman game that would be so cool
Edit, I typed this before continuing the video, did realize you said it already but still, it would be so cool
If they made a real game instead of this game as a service that is Gotham knights...
More facile praise.
I actually played all 4 Arkham games for the first time finally a few months back and they definitely still hold up. Had a great time running through those. Even in 2022. Would love 60 fps patch though for Arkham Knight.
Same. I played them all in a row and am about half way through arkham knight now. The games are still really great. Arkham Origins is a fantastic game too. Idk why it got so much Hate when it came out. It's actually my 2nd favorite after city
Just started to replaying it for hundred time. Despite all little flaws, it's video game perfection and absolute 10 out of 10
Bro Batman games and WBs Nemesis system are MADE for each other. I actually hoped for Gotham Knights to have something alike.
23:00 There is one good thing they did. Ifd you owned the game on PC and Live for Windows went down, you could send a Photo of your game media (DVD in my case) to support and they gave you a Steam key.
This is the first game I 100%ed.
Every singe riddler trophy.
Love this game dearly.
And all the DLC too
In my opinion, the reason to punch Penguin, outside of the early catharsis for players to get a free hit on one of the bosses, it closes a plot hole.
I was in my late 30s and early 40s when I played Arkham asylum and Arkham city and I enjoyed both house games
This is the first video i see you being actually good at the game from the getgo Luke , gives your opinion much more credibility.
damn...phisher....
Mine was Elder Scrolls Arena... I think. (which u can play 4 free, now.)
I really am grateful for my experiences with the Arkham games, especially from a technical perspective. I recently played through all 4 titles on PC without issue. Aside from the nVidea Interactive Smoke in Knight. That breaks things still sadly.
The nemesis system is actually going to be utilized in the new Gotham Knights thats coming out. Not a lot of details about it yet though.
Bloodborne, Jedi Academy, Dishonored, and Midnight Club 3 are some of the games I hold dear.
Oh, I need this for the Switch. Preferably all of the Arkham games. And Shadow of Mordor too.
"welcome to hell brucey boy"
@@vasilykiselev6285 Lights out, rich boy
i would play this non stop in middle school, such a goat game
Penguin doesn't know Bruce Wayne is Batman therefore it would not make sense for there to be a reference to punching him playing as Bruce Wayne
tbf, I dont see a reason why arkham city NEEDS to be bigger. I mean, something big doesn’t necessarily mean its better. I personally prefer a smaller, more intiment open world. I felt like I knew every nook and cranny by the end, and the game feels like it was designed around it and it gets so much detail within the world because of its size.
I really dont think anything would really be improved by making it larger just for the sake of largeness. unless the story was longer. heck, there is already TOO MANY riddler trophies as is.
IDK, I feel the game and plot were made for this specific size. and id prefer this then a boringly extended area to rack up gameplay hours and nothing more.
The fact that if you stay past the countdown in the bell tower, Joker will spoil the end of the game, is a great detail.
All I learned from this video is that Luke lowkey ships Joker/Batman
I wanna say that Penguin design was based on Jim Lee's version. Beautiful
Luke going back to these games like he’s going back to his favorite food spots after a change of ownership to see if the food still tastes the same
Arkham City is my favorite of the quadrupled series, it’s the perfect Batman game IMO
“Quadrupled?”
This is a perfect game for the Steam Deck. Been playing the entire Arkham series again on Deck and the first 3 games run at max settings 60fps. It's magnificent.
I've never been able to do all the Riddler challenges....and the Harley DLC kicks my ass...but it's a great game!
Even with the story & tone being dark you still have a great time playing the game. There’s some funny dialogue while roaming around Arkham City or in the narrative itself.
7:11 actually decent impression
If you pay attention closely… you can hear the heart of rocksteady beating while you play the game 😮
Fun fact: Shadow of Mordor started off as a Batman game that would have the nemesis system
You can unlock grapple booster as soon as you save Catwoman. It's always the first thing I do.
16:50 if you don’t jump out, joker gives a little speech, further proving that he really wasn’t going to kill Batman
I remember throwing remote control batarang's to the distant skyscrapers just trying to get as close as possible
23:10 what a surprise, the new HP game will have a PS-exclusive mission.
