Really been enjoying your series in this deep dive in Ash’s journey.!

Thanks for doing these for us because it saves me from having to try and track down a thousand episodes just to satisfy my nostalgic curiosity and see all I missed. You're a legend, Mr. Fringe
I've been absolutely loving this series, started 2 weeks ago in the middle of a very busy move & departure from an old job. Nostalgia mixed with quality commentary has made this a joy to listen to during my chores. Thank you!
Great video once again Jordan 😍 really appreciate the time and effort you must put in to these. I look forward to the next edition each time one drops 🔥
Something I really loved about how Ash's Gekkouga was portrayed was in his moveset. In japanese, all his attack names have relation to ninjas and samurai. Aerial Ace is Tsubame Gaeshi a famous unavoidable attack by Sasaki Kojirou (a samurai), Water Shuriken needs no explanation, Cut is Iaigiri (an attack made by unsheathing a katana really fast and cutting the opponent) and finally Double Team in japanese is Shadow Clones commonly connected to ninja.
Pokemon XY and XYZ were where the anime and Ash as a character peaked. He matured so much, and was just a better person in this series. Yes, he did have a moment when he lost the first battle for his final badge, but I wasn't too upset about that. I remember that he's still a kid, and that even the most well behaved and even tempered kids will have a moment like that. I also loved Ash's support of Clement and his inventions. "Science is so amazing!" has become a bit of a meme in my household. I feel like the Sun and Moon series did Ash dirty. I really do not like the animation style after XY/XYZ and it also felt like Ash was dumbed down, losing a lot of the character growth and maturity. Yeah, he maintained his cheerful optimism, but that's it. The story was ok, and there were some emotional moments, but it was still meh. The background artists were the true heroes of the later series. I do love me some beautifully painted scenery and environments.
In fairness to that loss as well was his complicated bond with Greninja and his losing streak. It’s been pointed out that for a long majority Ash had been on a hot streak and then he lost to Sawyer. I think some part of him didn’t see Sawyer as an equal. I mean it IS still Ash 😂 Even the gang was surprised that he lost to him. Not only that but Sawyer was ahead of him too. I think that loss at the gym kept adding to his losing streak and his loss of confidence as a Trainer. I agree though. Big shame the design. Yknow. Dropped to the abyss. And his personality. :/ I mean he was a kid yeah but it’s like everyone de-aged by a decade since sun and moon.
Animation is different from Drawing style, because if you think that you don't know anything about the subject, I'll summarize it for you, in SM what they did was simply lower the graphics to increase performance, and that doesn't affect the quality of the stories, be careful I won't deny The league did feel like it had less weight but the rest is OK, I forgot, people only watch the anime through the league because they don't see any previous chapters from there
Some people thinks that Ash doesn't have a clear arc in this season but I disagree. Ash's arc in XY/XYZ is that this time he was aiming to win more than ever. To the point where while he wins a lot of battles, the moments where he actually loses start getting to his head and affecting his battles. Like in his battle against Korrina in the way he attempts to use the same dance strategy that Tierno used after he defeated him during the seaside summer camp. You can also see it on his attempts to master the Ash-Greninja form as quick as possible. And specially in episodes where someone like Sawyer (that used to be behind him in terms of skill and gym badges), first loses to him, then ties and then wins and even ends up getting ahead of him before Wulfric's gym. You can see the slight discomfort in his expression when Sawyer tells him that he already defeated Wulfric and this gets to his head and ends up affecting him during his own gym battle. Later on Serena helped him to snap out of it and that helps him to finally master the Ash-Greninja form. He then fights in the league, admitting to himself the insecurity that caused him seeing Sawyer catching up to his level and then when he loses to Alain, he's still okay with it because he's not that much in that toxic "I need to win" mentality. And that's also why in Sun and Moon, thanks to his time in Alola, the region he bonded the most to the point of considering it a second home he remembers why he likes to be a pokemon trainer in the first place and ends up winning. Having finally the experience, the skills and the mentally necessary to finally win the league. And when it comes to Serena. She also had a great arc: She started her journey to reunite with her childhood crush but also as a way to escape from having to train to be a rhyhorn racer just like her mother expected her to be. Then she went for a time where she realized that she joined as and the others without really knowing what she wanted to do. Found out about pokemon showcases and decided to try it. Has a messy first experience but that only helped her to grow and change in the inside and the outside as a symbol of her determination. She lies to her mother about her still training to be a rhyhorn racer. Then when her mother finds out the truth Serena challenges her to a race to prove her commitment to her new goal and beats her. Finally gaining her approval. Then she keeps improving and reaches the final round (with her mother watching her on TV, showing her support towards her dream). Gaining the recognition of a talent hunter that was also pretty much the agent of the literal Kalos Queen in the process. And deciding to practice for a while in contests to improve her performance in showcases. And also kissing her crush to express her feelings and making a promise by saying that she'll be a much more charming woman the next time they see each other (a bold statement that was not only true later on, but also shows how much her confidence has been growing as well given her initial more or less shy interactions with Ash at the begining of the series). Not to mention that she is the only pokegirl that did something different from contests. With Clemont my opinion is that he didn't felt nearly as sidelined as Brock and Cilan. He was pretty much another rival to some extend. The reason why he gets more development than them is because unlike those two, he is portrayed as someone that isn't a mentor but rather as someone like Ash that is still working towards his goals as well. Ash definitely had an influence on him. Bonnie was also a "kid companion" than Max ever was. She was more mature and had at least some minor participation in battles. And when it comes to the relationship between Ash and Serena I think they definitely had a connection: A scene that I really like is when Serena is having doubts about taking Palermo's offer or not: Ash isn't the most romantic guy out there , but he does understands her feelings for the most part and he has always being particularly attentive to those he cares about. Serena was feeling down and obviously distracted, so he took her to do things that he figured she'd liked. It wasn't the first time he was sweet and supportive with her, and it certainly wasn't the last. Whether you ship Amour or not, scenes like that are a great show of how attentive Ash can be. He's prolly not gonna be the most romantic guy, but I think this suggests any girl that lands him is gonna be a very happy lady. And it was even stated by the writters themselves that their ending with the kiss was meant to show that they (eventually) will be a couple in the future. Overall this is easily among the best series of the pokemon anime and this video really made me remember just how good it is. Sun and Moon is amazing as well so I'm really looking forward to that video too (I personally suggest you to watch it in the sub version). Sorry for the ridiculously long comment XD. I tend to write a lot sometimes.
I do wish I watched the XY anime when it originally aired. I pretty much dropped off the series at this point but it seems like character development has been done pretty well in this part of the series. Great video, maybe I’ll go back and watch the XY anime in the future.
This was the series (and game) that made me fall back in love with Pokemon after abandoning it for many years between my childhood days of Gen 1 and my adulthood. So many fond memories of Kalos and the entire XY&Z run of the anime.
Yet another well done Breakdown, i gotta say this was a very interesting Series, in my opinion. I will look forward to the Next Part of this Ash’s Journey Guide of yours.
I've never watched X and Y, infact I kinda stopped watching afte DP due to time. But watching Jordan's videos kept kinda kept me up to date binging it for the past 2 days. I did not expect X and Y to have such jam packed ending at the same time emotional. Kinda sucks I wasn't able to watch it at the time. Though it's really fun watching Jordan's videos
Fuck yes!!! I'm just starting, but I'm so ridiculously happy. I found this series a week ago and finally caught up this morning. This is a great and super welcomed surprise!
I need to rewatch the XY anime! I watched about 20 episodes of it when it was first airing, but then I got really busy with life and lost track. I remember at the time thinking it was much better than the usual Pokemon anime fare, and this review only confirms my opinion from then. Thank you for all these videos! I love them so much.
The 'Hat Kid' joke, is exactly how Straw Hat Luffy got his name. He thought his opponent, in the second episode, was just stating the obvious, so Luffy did too.
XY was the last pokemon series that I watched on CN, after that I got out of the pokemon anime and the series as a whole, but I'm glad Ash's journey is coming to a end.
Might be biased since it's the only series I've watched completely, watching this documentation it seems like gen 6 has the best battle choreography, the things that you can't do in game makes sense, and the art style and animation is amazing
This is just after I dropped off the anime, so it's really nice having it recapped for me, after not having time to catch up on anime due to adulthood activities.
Man, the X and Y games were so cool, my favorite in the series outside of the Gold and Silver remakes. I was so engrossed in the game I finished the story and post game content on its opening weekend, I was in high school at the time haha
i’m with you on your love for noibat and noivern, every game i have that they’re in i have one in my party. i just can’t help it, i love them sm. definitely in my top favorites
Bro no way, I just finished the first 5 parts over this week, looking at your channel & the spacing of the videos I was thinking, the next one will be in like a month. Awesome work mate, make sure not to overwork yourself.
Yes, for sure Pokemon XY had awesome character growth and I love the Armageddon battle at the end. His companions for this region where my favorite too, especially Serena. It's my favorite generation, but I am also fond of the next one too.
watched pokemon gen 1 and 2, took a long long break and a few years ago watched pokemon xy and eventually z. froakie, serena and everything in between really showed me how far pokemon has come in terms of anime and story. having the the show battle a little differently (certain times having greninja do attacks on their own during battle) and make the fights focus on pokemon vs pokemon without the trainers issuing attacks to use. one fight in mind had greninja use an attack, ash told him to dodge it, and he dodged then used a different attack right away and both 'mons fought to give us a pretty cool looking fight (thanks animators). a lot of fights during xy showed us it became more of an action pokemon anime and less of like the games. attack, now opponent attacks, then ash attacks again, etc, etc (if you get what i mean) this generation really made pokemon awesome for me. also.. serena is a close 2nd to misty (if you've seen the entire xy you know) her being childhood friends with ash was adorable.
A couple of my favorite episodes from this run were when the gang first met Diantha and saving Sycamores' Garchomp from team rocket. The backstories in both episodes just makes you feel good inside.
Sorry man, you convinced me to pause watching this to take a look at Season 17. I promise I'll be back to partly watch your video whenever I finish a season!
Fun fact the girl with the mega absol in the movie defeats ash’s hawlucha in the movie but during the kalos league the same girl and mega absol are seen losing to ash’s hawlucha in the earlier kalos league rounds.
Jordan, you have been feasting us pokemon fans for these part 2 weeks. THIS was the era of pokemon that I grew up watching from start to end. I hold a special place in my heart for Generation 6 and the Kalos Era is where the Pokemon Anime reached its peak.
I think it's a nice touch that I'm XY there are many Pokemon Ash catches simply by tapping them with a Pokeball instead of chucking the ball at the Pokemon. I think it shows the growth of Ash as a trainer that he connects with so many Pokemon and they want to travel with him, and he doesn't throw a ball at them like he used to even if it wanted to journey with him. Goomy was the best example of this in my opinion
And one of the best series in general and one of ash’s most….interesting teams seriously 3 flying types wow I was hoping for Noivern but I was hoping instead of Goodra he’d catch a previous gen mon who could mega evolve

Animation is different from Drawing style, because if you think that you don't know anything about the subject, I'll summarize it for you, in SM what they did was simply lower the graphics to increase performance, and that doesn't affect the quality of the stories, be careful I won't deny The league did feel like it had less weight but the rest is OK, I forgot, people only watch the anime through the league because they don't see any previous chapters from there
The mega absol was also an opponent his hawlucha lost against in the diancie movie, showing overall growth
She also had a great arc:
She started her journey to reunite with her childhood crush but also as a way to escape from having to train to be a rhyhorn racer just like her mother expected her to be.
And when it comes to the relationship between Ash and Serena I think they definitely had a connection:
A scene that I really like is when Serena is having doubts about taking Palermo's offer or not:
Ash isn't the most romantic guy out there , but he does understands her feelings for the most part and he has always being particularly attentive to those he cares about.
Pikachu got golf balled 28:50
I do wish I watched the XY anime when it originally aired. I pretty much dropped off the series at this point but it seems like character development has been done pretty well in this part of the series. Great video, maybe I’ll go back and watch the XY anime in the future.
i got back into this era of pokemon i really like it
Same
Seriously man even after watching these series by every single episode it's just so fun watching it with you narrating it, I really love your work 💜💜
XY was such a good anime. I miss it so much. Truly the best pokemon has ever been!
I found this series 3 days ago and this legit made my day after seeing the upload rate (I know it’s a lot of work, thank you lol)
I haven't watched Pokemon since Gen1 aired & these videos are helping me catch up to Ash's adventures so thank you.
Amazing job as always! Can't wait to watch the Sun and Moon video! Its by far my favorite with X/Y right behind it!
Not an over exaggeration this is the best youtube series on the whole platform
The 'Hat Kid' joke, is exactly how Straw Hat Luffy got his name. He thought his opponent, in the second episode, was just stating the obvious, so Luffy did too.
Series XY is Peak Pokemon anime
XY was the last pokemon series that I watched on CN, after that I got out of the pokemon anime and the series as a whole, but I'm glad Ash's journey is coming to a end.
I think XY was the last series to air on CN before the show moved over to Disney XD
@@exeggutivejudge3747 correct
Might be biased since it's the only series I've watched completely, watching this documentation it seems like gen 6 has the best battle choreography, the things that you can't do in game makes sense, and the art style and animation is amazing
This is just after I dropped off the anime, so it's really nice having it recapped for me, after not having time to catch up on anime due to adulthood activities.
This video series is god tier! Just binged them all. Looking forward to the Sun & Moon ones!
Always happpy to see this creator and Mr.1upz upload anything nwadays. We await the Ash Journey in Alolan region
I'm so hype, sun and moon is my favorite series!! 🎉🎉
Woah how'd this come so quick!! this is awesome.
Would have been cool to see Greninja come back in a movie to help ash like how charizard did
This pokemon retrospective of yours is epic.
I was about six/seven when the kalos arc started airing. The amount of nostalgia I feel for this season is insane. Serena should’ve been Ash’s love!!
You kick ass my friend.. such amazing content on such an amazingly consistent basis 👏 🙌
Still can’t believe how consistently you release great content. It’s much appreciated!
You are a CONTENT GOD
Sorry man, you convinced me to pause watching this to take a look at Season 17. I promise I'll be back to partly watch your video whenever I finish a season!
Just got done watching the rest of the series to see you posted this!
Thanks again! The rest of your videos have been amazing to watch
The poliwag that jump-scares Serena, is caught by Red in the Manga and becomes his poliwhirl …. I love that wee nod to the manga
Keep it up fam your CRUSH this ash Journey NEED it all 🎉🎉
Fun fact the girl with the mega absol in the movie defeats ash’s hawlucha in the movie but during the kalos league the same girl and mega absol are seen losing to ash’s hawlucha in the earlier kalos league rounds.
Jordan, you have been feasting us pokemon fans for these part 2 weeks.
THIS was the era of pokemon that I grew up watching from start to end. I hold a special place in my heart for Generation 6 and the Kalos Era is where the Pokemon Anime reached its peak.
best breakdown of the series!
I was in the middle of Pokémon XYZ when Pokémon tv removed the season I was pissed! So this is extremely helpful. Thanks so much!
Goomy was the best example of this in my opinion
ghaaaad bless you, this series is unmatched
Incredible work with summarizing the series as a whole, I'm really enjoying it!
Oh man I've been waiting for you to do the XY series this will always be my favorite season no matter what. #Amourshipping
making these videos back to back and this high quality, great job!!!!
Loved James. And inkay they had such a fun relationship and inkay is adorable
Yes something good to listen to while at work. I look forward to this series to continue even though the end is coming soon.
Wow this was a lot sooner than I expected.
Again, great work.
And one of the best series in general and one of ash’s most….interesting teams seriously 3 flying types wow I was hoping for Noivern but I was hoping instead of Goodra he’d catch a previous gen mon who could mega evolve
The sky battles were a new gimmick so they were probably going to have Ash do more sky battles.
This is my favorite series on UA-cam
I have to say, with the next season and movies, they aren't allowed to say its a new continuity, because ash has memories of old friends and travels.
Was literally watching all these today and was gonna comment when 6 might come. Thank you!
Can’t wait to consume this all in one go
🐐!!!!!!!! Did not expect another episode so soon
You got a shiny Tyrunt?! Omg!!! You deserve it, never seen one before.
Brother after the 2 month break i was definitely not expecting a two week turn around on the next one 😮
Pokemon xy and xyz was where my love of Pokémon skyrocketed, I love black and white and sinnoh but this gen was amazing
Just caught up with all these videos with ash's journey thanks for getting me up speed I started getting into pokemon again ike a year ago
