XYZ Ash is one of the best written characters. The anime took a different approach in XY. Ash during the previous seasons faced challenges from other people stronger than him and there was always somebody more mature than him in his group(Brock and Cilan). In XY, Ash is the mature person in the group and he is admired by everyone around him. Everyone expects great things from him. His challenges are meeting people's expectations and prove himself worthy of being considered a role model by trainers like Sawyer, Clemont and Serena. That's why Ash goes to the forest after losing to Wulfric, he thinks he is unworthy of the praise people give him and thinks that Sawyer has surpassed him. That's why Serena's words are important. He realises that people don't admire him for his accomplishments, they admire him for his optimism and compassion toward other pokemon. The way Ash interacts with the forest pokemon furthers this belief and Ash finally realises where he was wrong. The Snowbelle arc is one of the best written arcs in the whole of the anime
Actually that is genuinely something I sort of understood, but never put much notice that Ash kind of really took in the role of responsible guy. Writing of XY sucks, actually. Even to the Pokemon standard. What story it had untill XYZ? The companions with worst chemistry afterall. Given how their conversations felt bland and Ash-Bonnie and Clemont -serena has bad chemistry. How could someone call it best?
@@darshan5052 Even Indigo League and Johto didn't have any story lol. Its an anime meant to advertise pokemon. Atleast XYZ had the best villain arc in Pokemon. Also I liked the chemistry between the XY companions because they were supportive towards one another. Ash also helped in development of Clemont and Serena. Also in Hoenn May-Brock and Max-Brock didn't have many good interactions either. In SM, Sophocles had bad chemistry with everyone.
In my opinion, XY Ash was more growing as a trainer and was kind of like a starting point to become Champion. I know he lost the Kalos League but I’m fine with Alola League win. SM was about Ash growing as a person to enjoy nature around the World. Then JN set him to travel the whole world to learn how far he has come before then and led him to become a World Champion. DP, XY, SM and JN Ash are all Goated (Alongside OS and AG even BW pls don’t kill me lol)
@KarenTravis-u8s OS stand for Original series. AG for Advanced Generation, DP for Diamond and pearl, BW for Black and White, XY is just XY, SM for Sun and Moon and JN for journeys.
XYZ Ash is my personal favourite and was probably the last one I watched before starting to step away from the anime at Sun and Moon before nearly completely at Journeys and not watching the most recent series.
I like all version of Ash! But I definitely agree that XYZ Ash is so great, too. And while yeah I was a bit disappointed that he lost the Kalos League, but not really THAT much, like most seem to be. In my eyes, Ash had made it so far, he made the FINALS of a Pokemon League, which is awesome, in my opinion! And I totally agree with you. Though he lost, Ash and Greninja were able to finally get better control of their new power, and were okay with the lose.
Thanks! I would love to see a video about my favorite, though sadly very underrated, character Nando 🎶 If you don’t exactly know who that is, I don’t blame you, again he is very underrated… Nando is a bard Ash and company meet in Sinnoh during the Diamond/Pearl season.
I became a fan of Pokemon when XY and XYZ aired on cable tv back in 2015-2016. This show was just amazing, every time it aired on TV i assured to never miss an episode and especially when we arrived to XYZ and Team Flare arc it really grow even more on me. I think every Pokemon anime, movie or adaptation should take notes from this series !!! As someone who does not watch much anime i can say Pokemon XY and XYZ is my favorite anime and Pokemon series ever.
im in 10th grade and even i remember watching this earlier in mid elementary and ngl, im glad i grew up with this. Can't wait to rewatch it entirely again when i get the chance. also you really did go into great depth of this, keep it up fr
What I loved about XYZ is that it grew out from turn based combat. Of course normal battles existed before it, but in XYZ it really felt like they had to make their decisions quickly or pokemon will just stand their to take the full force of attack head on. Instead now, they not only utilized their environment and moves but also find and make opportunities making the battles more consistent and engaging, not just a 10 min wait while the trainer returns from being afk and finally make his move.
One of the main objectives for me was his friends and rivals actually looked up to him and found him as an inspiration instead of everyone calling him a kid… CAUSE. HE. WASN’T.
I feel that alot prefer because this version is indeed making him mature. - His design makes him look like a teenager - He wasn't the strongest but he was still respected and recognized as a trainer. This Shows he is an MC that alot of people can relate too. - He also had a great group. He was like a brother to both Clemont and Bonnie. Him and Serena made their dynamic as a group so fun to watch because in the previous he was always seen as one of the "immature friend or little kid" in the previous seasons--with this group, he's definitely recognized as the mature one.💕
And don't forget how much risk is was willing to take to save his pokemon. Bro became a 9/11 jumper to save his Pikachu. That and when all his friends were hypnotized by Malamar he allowed Meowth to scratch him up.
This show was Peak In elementary school I would always watch it from home, Ash’s character was Peak, Greninja’s arc and the bond phenomenon was sick asf and obviously Amor shipping which was a plus for me, overall great video man keep it up!
People forget cuz ash is literally the best trainer in the world, but when X and Y was coming out that was the first series in what, 15 years, where you legitimately thought Ash could win it all.
Xyz era ash felt like the last year my childhood ended ngl. I was happy at that time with no worries. The episodes were also entertaining as hell so there’s that
Xy ash was the culmination of the character that was built up from og, AG, and Dp He started amateur rookie who won through luck, or Charizard, and lost because of bad luck and Charizard, Then in johto, he actually became competent, and battled with skill he still had his major ego, but he was still a mentor to may, but he barely learned anything from her, he didnt ecen wafch half her contests In dp, he actually took time to actually watch and learn from dawn, And then BW threw all of itt away And then all of it returned for XY, and he became more mature, rather than just influencing more than just serena, he started being a role model to everyone, even veterans like alain and clemont And SM kept that part of him Jn dropped all that
Ash actually looks like he’s 15 in this show. This is my favourite version of Ash and my favourite part of the whole anime. I also really love the intro music
I feel like in xy Ash took on Brock's role to an extent, showing a maturity of a boy going through his teen years. He seemed like the older brother you could count on for advice and help.
I disagree when I hear people say things like "Ash isn't mature mature" or "I wish Ash would've won at his strongest" when talking about Sun and Moon because that's clearly not the case. The artstyle in Sun and Moon may be different but Ash is still pretty mature and an incredibly competent trainer in Alola. With a team that included pikachu, two starters that defeated their final forms, an ultrabeast, a one in a kind form with berserk mode that won Ash the league and a mythical pokemon. And fought against Ultrabeasts and literal legendaries. And while XY/XYZ Ash definitely looks older and has great interpersonal relationships with his traveling companions part of Ash's arc in XY/XYZ was that he was aiming to win more than ever in the story. But being way too eager to win was exactly the problem and ends up messing up his battles. Which is why he does things like trying to copy Tierno's battle style after he beat him before the Korina battle, also why he struggles against Ramos when he told him to chill down after he noticed this "way too eager to win" attitude from Ash and it's also why he gets frustrated and fake smiles when he sees that Sawyer already surpassed him in number of gym badges and that made it lose his focus for the battle against Wulfric. Sun and Moon is him remembering why he likes to be a trainer in the first place, while still being a competent trainer but this time with his head in the right place and as part of a region that thanks to his new mentality also became like a second home to him. So while some people wanted Ash to win the league in Kalos it makes far more sense for Ash to win in Alola.
I watched Pokemon from the beginning to XYZ. Including all movies. Back when people uploaded the entire series in YT and Nintendo didn't took them all down yet. And I've got to say. XYZ felt pretty satisfying. Yes he didn't win, yes there was no reunion with all his previous companions but I've watched so many (repetitive) content that I wouldn't have mind if it all ended there
It's just the people who normalised that Ash doesn't want to be act like his age , the series should have something different with a story and battles should be only thing that should be go around the show complain about the BW.
This is my favorite show not only for pokemon, its in general cause finally ash is serius when the time is required, he already has skill socializing, has deep connections apart of pikachu, and I see it on my childhood and also teach me how can I do a good person thanks to this ash and I love it
I was introduced to pokemon anime via XY-XYZ. It was a good story line that they did for this. I love how they introduced Ash Greninja as a “form of mega evolution” but only specific to certain Greninjas
I really like the Series is one of the main reasons are how the story telling the growth of the characters and throughout the whole series you can see the major development of characters like Clemont how he becomes more brave never gives up even when he mostly fails with his invention's Ash is still supporting him to never give like he is telling to Serena throughout the whole series and you can see the progress in every episode how they growth towards each other and so. The next thing is big LOVE between Ash and Serena and sometimes can be goofy sometimes you ask why but the way Ash is communicating towards Serena both of them showing strong feelings towards each other how ash never did before and after xy just show how much they love and like each other even if they are not winning or aren't happy they always stood by their sides and anytime support each other which throughout the series the love and bond between them is growing and didn't always said to each other because they feel embaresd I still like how it develops and so. Another thing is the introduction of Mega Evolution the battling is more fluent and i Can write here more and more things why this series is so great and how it growed to my heart and the scene in the airport this was really the first time in my life where I actually cried when I first saw this episode. Maybe sometimes this trio will return because as I say never say never and anything can happen. This series was a really special to me throughout my childhood and it really helped me in life to see thing from another prospective Maybe someday it will in some kind of form return and never ever give up Again big shoutout to you for this video and keep going
Great video, very well explained. One thing though, the Pokemon series most definitely don’t take place over the course of under 1 year. The most likely outcome is that that line at the start of Black and White was either a mistake made by the writers, or a translation error, because 1: all the episodes put together would amass to over a years worth of days, and 2: in the Japanese and English scripts, the relationships between returning characters from previous seasons make it obvious that it has been many months since they have seen eachother. Another reason could be that they were trying to make Ash seem more relatable to the younger kids, but after Black and White, realised that it was time for a change in formula. At the end of the day, you can believe whatever you’d like, because it’s just a show and never really explicitly stated.
I really like the version of XY Ash, because it feels like they finally makes Ash growing up mentally (aswell it was for DP Ash) making some comedic scenes and serious scenes, they a really made a great animation and storyline for Ash when he was travelling in a Kalos region with the experience he had in that time (the XY group and Ash Greninja is something really nice to see and showing that Pokemon can be serious when they have a chance to show for teenager and older audience not only being exclusive for kids), if Ash was returning to the Pokemon series even if is for the last time (either in main anime or spinoff [even if he gets into the game Pokemon would be cool to see]) hopefully they make Ash breaking the 10 years old curse finally making him a teenager or a adult with all the experience he had from his previous season (and some of his friends and rivals getting older in a Timeskip)
@@JoshTrager-j9g But Ash defeat Alain indirectly in the masters eight tournament Alain lost so badly against Leon in the very first round and Ash defeat Leon in the Finals So Ash finally Surpassed Alain in some way
@@videos43334dhdjj774h In hindsight, he actually went pretty well against Leon. He only lost one Pokemon to a BOOSTED Rillaboom while Ash lost 2 and Diantha 4 to a regular Rillaboom.

The story was awesome and it got me into this franchise . So XY will be forever my favourite series. I almost decided to stop watching when I saw the Alola anime. But eh. I got over it.
I really like the Sun and Moon ash because he just feels like a better person in general. At least to me, he seems nicer than other ashes but still has that same energy to battle but will always protect anything that needs help. Maybe that’s just me but yeah
The first pokemon anime I watched was XYZ I think, if not then it was indigo League, I loved both of the shows so much. I get nostalgic thinking about them.
As felt kind of like a veteran at that point. He has travelled around the world and clearly grown from it. For me it often felt like Ash knew what he was doing, and he also just looked cooler.

I just really liked the fights and I also liked how cool I felt watching the series... I remembered why I really liked Talonflame now.... scratch that, I remember why I really liked Noivern, Hawlucha, Greninja, *and* Talonflame
I think a big part of it is because he was put in a position he hadn't been in before and hasn't been in since (or at least, he wasn't in this position in Sun & Moon, I don't know about Journeys): he was the leader. In every prior arc, he had a more seasoned and more mature party member that he could rely on (typically Brock, but also Misty and Cilan too). Going into XY/XYZ, Ash's companions were, at most, on his level with maturity, and he was the most experienced adventurer of the group (Serena was a novice trainer, and Clement and Bonnie had never really left Lumiose city before). Ash was forced to use the intelligence and growth he had gathered through his previous journeys and apply it for the benefit everyone in his group. Compare this to his comparatively passive role in previous seasons, and I'd say it's a marked improvement.
The simple answer is that Ash actually feels like he grew up not only physically but also mentally before they aged him down like crazy
It's Ironic but X and Y is the only series that Ash never defeat his main rival of the series, he even defeat Leon in Pokemon Journeys but he never defeat Alain even on this day

DP, XY, SM and JN Ash are all Goated (Alongside OS and AG even BW pls don’t kill me lol)
can you type the full names of those acronyms pls?
@KarenTravis-u8s OS stand for Original series. AG for Advanced Generation, DP for Diamond and pearl, BW for Black and White, XY is just XY, SM for Sun and Moon and JN for journeys.
I think most people would actually say Indigo League because that’s the most popular one among non-fans.
XYZ Ash is my personal favourite and was probably the last one I watched before starting to step away from the anime at Sun and Moon before nearly completely at Journeys and not watching the most recent series.
Best design, story, drip, and maturity
I like all version of Ash! But I definitely agree that XYZ Ash is so great, too. And while yeah I was a bit disappointed that he lost the Kalos League, but not really THAT much, like most seem to be. In my eyes, Ash had made it so far, he made the FINALS of a Pokemon League, which is awesome, in my opinion! And I totally agree with you. Though he lost, Ash and Greninja were able to finally get better control of their new power, and were okay with the lose.
Very valid friend
Thanks!
I would love to see a video about my favorite, though sadly very underrated, character Nando 🎶 If you don’t exactly know who that is, I don’t blame you, again he is very underrated… Nando is a bard Ash and company meet in Sinnoh during the Diamond/Pearl season.
XYZ Ash was just cool even with it in the intro sounding cool
Green ninja carried his ahh that's why I like this version
Can't wait to rewatch it entirely again when i get the chance. also you really did go into great depth of this, keep it up fr
xyz is so incredible I could talk about it forever
Video Idea: What made Jessie, James, and Meowth so Good?
Yes please!
But they are not good
Already kinda answered that in my "why was team rocket so popular?" Video
@@eliaskyriakou6253 woah now buster I think you are forgetting about OS Team Rocket

The Xy films were peak as well
Movie 17 was boring
@@Blaster_herewhich movie was that? With Diancie or with Hoopa?
Well.........two of them were, anyway.
(We don't talk about Hoopa and the Clash of Ages. 😑)
@@brickbanditstudios6037The one with Hoopa.

One of the main objectives
for me was his friends and rivals actually looked up to him and found him as an inspiration instead of everyone calling him a kid… CAUSE. HE. WASN’T.
I really liked that one episode where Ash was scared of Sawyer getting ahead of him, it was a normal human reaction.
I feel that alot prefer because this version is indeed making him mature.
- His design makes him look like a teenager
- He wasn't the strongest but he was still respected and recognized as a trainer.
That and when all his friends were hypnotized by Malamar he allowed Meowth to scratch him up.
i was introduced to pokemon through Pokemon X/Y and it just has that extra connection towards me.
This show was Peak In elementary school I would always watch it from home, Ash’s character was Peak, Greninja’s arc and the bond phenomenon was sick asf and obviously Amor shipping which was a plus for me, overall great video man keep it up!
Ash from XY and XYZ will always be my favorite version, nothing force me to reason place this Ash.
I remember listening to the ash greninja theme for the first time and i lost it man. Good video❤️
his drip was unmatched 📈😎.
What Drip slang means?
@@YellowRedBluetheTitaniumWindvIt means someone's outfit.
Yeah, the Kalos outfit was awesome, second only to his AG outfit if you ask me.
as soon as you reached sun and moon the battle against a true hero got me
Simple answer: Everything that Ash went through throughout the whole franchise felt soooo earned and recognized in XYZ.
Hi first one I really like the xyz anime awesome vid so far btw also I subd
🫡
Thanks Friend!!!!
They really made up for the absolutely trainwreck that was Unova Ash
This is the actual Ash I grew up with and LOVED THE SERIES
People forget cuz ash is literally the best trainer in the world, but when X and Y was coming out that was the first series in what, 15 years, where you legitimately thought Ash could win it all.
the quality of animation and screenplay were peak and the fights were also really good
And also, mega evolution is and always will be the best and most amazing type of powerup the show has ever seen. Cant be beat
3:23 Yoo don’t disrespect my BOY TRACKER
XY was the first series I watched, and I was so spoiled with how good it was that I didn’t watch anything else to full other than the original series
It just felt like he grew both physically and mentally and the overall anime is just better
Dude... XY/XYZ being the ATLA of the pokemon anime is so accurate.
XYZ ash was the only ash I ever got to see on tv in my country 💀
If SM anime was more like XYZ we probably would have had a Lusamine that is more simler to her game counterpart again
Xyz era ash felt like the last year my childhood ended ngl. I was happy at that time with no worries. The episodes were also entertaining as hell so there’s that
Xy ash was the culmination of the character that was built up from og, AG, and Dp
He started amateur rookie who won through luck, or Charizard, and lost because of bad luck and Charizard,
Then in johto, he actually became competent, and battled with skill
he still had his major ego, but he was still a mentor to may, but he barely learned anything from her, he didnt ecen wafch half her contests
In dp, he actually took time to actually watch and learn from dawn,
And then BW threw all of itt away
And then all of it returned for XY, and he became more mature, rather than just influencing more than just serena, he started being a role model to everyone, even veterans like alain and clemont
And SM kept that part of him
Jn dropped all that
I’m not even finna lie XYZ was da best show i ever watched as a kid
Ash actually looks like he’s 15 in this show. This is my favourite version of Ash and my favourite part of the whole anime. I also really love the intro music
The series itself kinda helped ash to be a better person, like the story complemented ash’s character as a whole!
One of the most memorable parts is when serena throws a snowball at ash. And it leads to him growing even more.
I watched Pokemon from the beginning to XYZ. Including all movies. Back when people uploaded the entire series in YT and Nintendo didn't took them all down yet.
And I've got to say. XYZ felt pretty satisfying. Yes he didn't win, yes there was no reunion with all his previous companions but I've watched so many (repetitive) content that I wouldn't have mind if it all ended there
Team rocket was a menece in the x and y they became the one thing i never thought they would do be smart in execting a plan
5:05 Sick transition btw 😎
I'm not even gonna try and lie that is just the opening bro 😭 (I wish it was me tho)
@@Pokiiii62No, I think they meant the transition from Ash and Kiawe running transitioning to the XY opening WAS the sick transition.
When he said no one liked black and white i got sad cause rhat was my forst pokemon anime 😢
It's absolutely ok to like b&w it's just not the best it could've been compared to the games
It's just the people who normalised that Ash doesn't want to be act like his age , the series should have something different with a story and battles should be only thing that should be go around the show complain about the BW.
This is my favorite show not only for pokemon, its in general cause finally ash is serius when the time is required, he already has skill socializing, has deep connections apart of pikachu, and I see it on my childhood and also teach me how can I do a good person thanks to this ash and I love it
For me, it feels like he grew into an accumulation of all his journeys up to that point.
I was introduced to pokemon anime via XY-XYZ. It was a good story line that they did for this. I love how they introduced Ash Greninja as a “form of mega evolution” but only specific to certain Greninjas
I'm still mad he lost in the Kalos League, he was in his peak moment on the series.
This series was a really special to me throughout my childhood and it really helped me in life to see thing from another prospective Maybe someday it will in some kind of form return and never ever give up
Again big shoutout to you for this video and keep going
1st ash looks sick 2nd ASH GRENINJA and 3rd XYZ is about 16 year old teenagers so hes more mature so that was like his oldest form
3 words:
He. Grew. Up.
I really like the version of XY Ash, because it feels like they finally makes Ash growing up mentally (aswell it was for DP Ash) making some comedic scenes and serious scenes, they a really made a great animation and storyline for Ash when he was travelling in a Kalos region with the experience he had in that time (the XY group and Ash Greninja is something really nice to see and showing that Pokemon can be serious when they have a chance to show for teenager and older audience not only being exclusive for kids), if Ash was returning to the Pokemon series even if is for the last time (either in main anime or spinoff [even if he gets into the game Pokemon would be cool to see]) hopefully they make Ash breaking the 10 years old curse finally making him a teenager or a adult with all the experience he had from his previous season (and some of his friends and rivals getting older in a Timeskip)
he's actually a real person who learns and grows, hence why i dropped the show when he got giga scaled down when sun & moon came out
The xyz Ash would have been perfect if only he defeat Alain in the Kalos league Finals
Yeah, the writers really dropped the ball HARD with that one.
Ya, he was getting really good character development after so many years.
I have so many good memories of sitting on my dads couch and watching Pokémon xy and just being like WOW A FING
This show got me into Pokémon.
I was obsessed with it, watched it between xy and xyz’s release in the uk. Along with the gen 3 anime (sky was weird.)
No, of course that makes sense friend!
Glad I’m not totally off the rails with this lol 😂
he had two birthdays during the anime so the creators are lying about it taking place in or under a year
This show struck the perfect balance between serious/mature Ash and goofy/comedic Ash while still feeling like classic Pokèmon.
That's it.
The way you talk about the safari pup is how some people talk about Sun and Moon.
Safari pup came outta nowhere tho
The first pokemon anime I watched was XYZ I think, if not then it was indigo League, I loved both of the shows so much. I get nostalgic thinking about them.
As felt kind of like a veteran at that point. He has travelled around the world and clearly grown from it. For me it often felt like Ash knew what he was doing, and he also just looked cooler.
New to your channel but I absolutely love it keep it up man I absolutely love your videos
Thank you friend, i very much will!
He had swag, he had game, he had the animation for fucks sake, he had a stand in the form of greninja gang
xyz was so peak, ash greninja was peak, the story felt deep and emotional, the villains were sick, AND ALSO MEGA EVOLUTION YIPPEEE
To answer Yuki’s question, my favorite is Clash of Clans
Me every time I see a goat: Yo it’s XY Ash
Yessir
Pokemon XY and XYZ are definitely my favorite of the franchise
I remember really liking XYZ in elementary school. so, I recently rewatched it as a highschooler.
it was Amazing. I just really liked the fights and I also liked how cool I felt watching the series...
I remembered why I really liked Talonflame now....
scratch that, I remember why I really liked Noivern, Hawlucha, Greninja, *and* Talonflame
Badass Ash even without the roasting
Alola Ash goofy yet Champion
Kanto Savage
Galar: WC Ash
