This 1965 Chevy El Camino can be built in one of two ways. Build it up as an everyday driver with an attachable camper or take it to the track as you build it as a drag version.
There are a ton of features available for this kit that allows you to make an incredible custom vehicle. This fully paintable kit includes options such as a custom steering wheel, optional grille cover, custom bumper, a stock shift control or Hurst shifter, and bucket seats. There is also a bonus set of pad-printed tires with whitewall and gold lettering.

The Chevrolet El Camino is a coupé utility vehicle that was produced by Chevrolet between 1959-60 and 1964-1987. Unlike a standard pickup truck, the El Camino was adapted from the standard two-door Chevrolet station wagon platform and integrated the cab and cargo bed into the body.
Introduced in the 1959 model year in response to the success of the Ford Ranchero coupé utility, its first run, based on the Biscayne's B-body, lasted only two years. Production resumed for the 1964-1977 model years based on the Chevelle platform, and continued for the 1978-1987 model years based on the GM G-body platform.
Although based on corresponding General Motors car lines, the vehicle is classified in the United States as a pickup.[1] GMC's badge engineered El Camino variant, the Sprint, was introduced for the 1971 model year. Renamed Caballero in 1978, it was also produced through the 1987 model year.
The 1965 El Camino received the same facelift as the 1965 Chevelle, with a more pronounced V-shaped front end, and a higher performance L79 version of the 327 engine rated at 350 hp (261 kW) that was also available in Chevelles. Most of the other engines were carried over from 1964, including the 194 and 230 cubic-inch Turbo Thrift sixes, the 195 hp (145 kW) 283 cubic-inch Turbo-Fire V8 and 327 cubic-inch Turbo-Fire V8s of 250 and 300 hp (186 and 224 kW).
This is so ironic; I'm working on a 65 El Camino right now. It's all original --- Factory Corvette 327, 4 speed, 12 bolt differential, black with red interior, bucket seats and four speed. Best part is there is VERY little rust --- it was in a barn for over 30 years in the lower desert. So now I have to get this model and clone the big one........... Very nice kit. I like the review. I have the 80's El Camino camper kit, I got rid of the 6 cylinder engine and put in a 350 Chevy motor out of my parts box. Used the car for a camping diorama. Keep up the great work, Chris.
I had fun adding my own ideas to a model. Around 1975 I remember I took parts from a 4x4 pickup truck model and turned a van into a 4x4 van. I also took the rear axles off of a semi truck model and put them under a pickup truck like the way the original Bigfoot started.
Cool! I will make use of the camper on one of my 66 Chevrolet truck models! I will redo the bottom part so it will become a slide in !

Nice Kit! AMT should have included some faux light wood paneling printed cardboard cutouts for the camper interior fixtures curtains, walls and ceiling
I like that idea to that would have been 😎 or maybe a separate kit interior with figures that would be even better
As a guy that's had 14 real el Caminos, I really liked your build of one. It really looks good! My older brother would put on the mags with the whitewalls!

Very nicely done ! I’ve done this ‘65 twice now, including for a 24 hour build. I also was able to piece together a ‘64 El Camino, to display next to them.

What timing for this kit! The last kid only has a year or two of school and I was wondering if I really needed the space and expenses of the house. Maybe sell it all and get a camper. I need a bed, a stove and a work bench. I'm glad this didn't have an interior to tempt me more! Lol

Cheap DIY trick to paint model car and truck bodies is to use a empty spray can with a piece of blue tack on the spray can lid to hold the body in place.You can spin it around to paint it quite well.This little kit looks awesome I need to get it !!

Great addition for the tires etc. I have an older '96 Buyers Club version which I was proud to have, now may have to see if a collector wants it, and pick this new one up for the addition of new tires etc. LOL

This came out very nicely, and I'm sure some aftermarket people might come out with an interior tub for the camper shell. However, I like the simplicity of the basic kit and as usual from AMT all the additional parts and decals.

I got a few '65 Gear Hustlers to do different versions. So since I would like only one version with camper I'll get it and use the extra parts for others. Seeing the custom grill I think I'll do a drag version and cut open the hood and use the MT slicks. I wonder 🤔 if the camper would fit on the '68 El Camino to.
Very nice kit. I would have painted the camper's bed sheets plaid, but that's just me. The rest of your choices are spot on. I like the "classic" almost dull, gold paint (very typical of all gold GMs back then). Wide Ovals, in the day, would make ANY car look better - and on mags - plus, plus. Thanks for a fun Saturday build. I'm off to buy some plaid bed sheets...

Everything about this kit looks great! Can't wait to get one. There is only one thing that I think could be better on this and that would be to have a separate from the chassis rear suspension so that you could manipulate the rear end height. It looks a little low in the rear to me. In fact, it doesn't appear to even look level. It might be the camera angle? Anyway, another great looking build!
You could use a pin vise and drill the axle holes in a different height, or if you have spare crew wagon or surf wagon, the bottom pan on those has two ride heights, and fit that el camino nicely!
Those are the 2 tips I have for that, it can be done!
@@ronaldhuff635 In the past, I have drilled new holes to adjust rear end height on quite a few kits and I show that on my channel. I'm not a huge fan of one piece chassis's. You cannot get it as good looking as a separate piece chassis. I also am not a fan of spending twice the money to get one kit out of it. So, it's off to breaking out the pin vise to adjust that sag...
yeah i was gifted one in trade from freind from usa red on boxart witout the caravan camper on boxart but was in the kit so pleased I wanted to look clean as he done as a request the body only in a color i really wanted but it's immaculate I can do elco on its own but the camper I wondered when done if it looks cool b ut I and fit on truck back bed ill try and

I've noticed over several videos you use different color masking tape. Are these specific to your application or simply random? Thanks - love the presentation as always.
Washi tape comes in random colors in the tube. Same tape, different colored rolls.
What glue do you use?
Great video. One question what brand is the super glue you use? I use the S/G from the hobby shops that put the stores name on, and it’s crap.

Charger is near done. KITT is about 25% of the way. Videos will be coming.
