The Chevrolet Corvette (C2) is the second generation of the Chevrolet Corvette sports car, produced by the Chevrolet division of General Motors (GM) for the 1963 through 1967 model years.
The 1967 Corvette Sting Ray was the last Corvette of the second generation, and five years of refinements made it the best of the line. Although it was meant to be a redesign year, its intended successor the C3 was found to have some undesirable aerodynamic traits. Duntov demanded more time in the wind tunnel to devise fixes before it went into production.
Changes were again modest: Five smaller front fender vents replaced the three larger ones, and flat-finish rockers sans ribbing conferred a lower, less chunky appearance. New was a single backup light, mounted above the license plate. The previous models' wheel covers gave way to slotted six-inch Rally wheels with chrome beauty rings and lug nuts concealed behind chrome caps. Interior alterations were modest and included revised upholstery, and the handbrake moved from beneath the dash to between the seats. The convertible's optional hardtop was offered with a black vinyl cover, which was a fad among all cars at the time.
The 427 was available with a 1282 ft³/min (605 L/s) Rochester 3X2-barrel carburetors arrangement, which the factory called Tri-Power producing 435 bhp (441 PS; 324 kW) at 5800 rpm and 460 lb⋅ft (624 N⋅m) at 4000 rpm of torque.[29] The ultimate Corvette engine for 1967 was coded L88, even wilder than the L89, and was as close to a pure racing engine as Chevy had ever offered in regular production. Besides the lightweight heads and bigger ports, it came with an even hotter camshaft, stratospheric 12.5:1 compression, an aluminum radiator, small-diameter flywheel, and a single huge Holley four-barrel carburetor. Although the factory advertised L88 rating was 430 bhp at 4600 rpm, the true rating was said to be about 560 bhp at 6400 rpm. The very high compression ratio required 103-octane racing fuel, which was available only at select service stations. Clearly this was not an engine for the casual motorist. When the L88 was ordered, Chevy made several individual options mandatory, including Positraction, the transistorized ignition, heavy-duty suspension, and power brakes, as well as RPO C48, which deleted the normal radio and heater to cut down on weight and discourage the car's use on the street. As costly as it was powerful - at an additional $1,500 over the base $4,240.75 price - the L88 engine and required options were sold to a mere 20 buyers that year. With potential buyers anticipating the car's overdue redesign, sales for the Sting Ray's final year totaled 22,940, down over 5,000 units from 1966 results. Meanwhile, Chevrolet readied its third-generation Corvette for the 1968 model year.
Those of us that actually have to pay real money, those decals SHOULD come in the kit! Let's have a reason for that $33 + shipping!
Even more expensive here in the UK 🙁
Love the pant made a old kit look great
Tip: 10mm flat washers make great brake discs if you want to take it a step further. Also Chris, I’ve been working with the Pledge and I’m getting the hang of it. I did a Boeing 767 and brushed it on and it’s unreal! Thanks for thinking outside of the model box lol!
MPC, AMT and Monogram will always be my favorite domestic makes. MPC boxes are simply the best for me. This one looks like the original MPC “Nightstalker” ‘67 big block I got. Nice build.
The "Night Stalker" came out after the Street Stalker, others. The 63 was easily changed from a 63 "Split Window", into the newer 64-67 coupes.
I spent YEARS trying to to find Original issue MPC Street Stalker, to get the Original Mag Wheels and decals.
Now Hundreds of $$$$ later, they Re-Issue the damned thing. At least it has an articulated chassis, versus AMT's front and rear wire axles.
But NOW, HOW ???, do I cut up an original 50 year old kit that NOW has the same value as the current reproduction ????
Of course, I'll buy a couple or so of the repros to get the supposedly enhanced?expanded decal sheet.
Good Luck, and HAPPY BUILDING to EVERYONE.
That is the one I remember building as a kid.
Havent had a chance to see this video, not a vette fan, but THAT COVER CAR turned out BEAUTIFUL,
Those decals much better than originally issued!
This kit just stinks of nostalgia! Glad it's back hopefully they do that Street Shark Vette next!
GREAT color choices. Sharp looking rig. Best hour I've spent today - Thanks again.
Straight out of the 70's ! Another nice model, thank you for sharing your skills.
Wow that is one badass.hotrod. love the color . I gotta say one thing you have a lot of patience. With these cars. You build . Corvettes always look. Awesome. In a hot rod version. Nice job. . can't wait to see your next. Project . Have a great weekend. . be safe. My friend. . Awesome. Build .
I'm gonna have to buy this kit again, just can't get enough of it. If you look closely you can see it's the kit in my profile picture! Great build!
One of my favourite sets of models.
i dont really like corvettes that much but i think that body style is still one of the most beautiful cars ever made
I got this kit. Had to have it. Thank You for your building of it. Love those side pipes!!!…… AND REMEMBER you keep building them and I will keep watching.👍🇨🇦👍.
Like the Corvette - great job on this one.
I'll be getting a Streaker Vette to build!!!!! 👍👍🙂
Might be my favorite build of yours it is spectacular the shine is incredible can't say enough
Big block Zoomies on a small block. O! the exhaust leaks! Didn’t you hear them when you fired it up, Chris? Great job on a true classic. This one and the ‘66 Charger are worth buying, not just for the nostalgic value, but, as you pointed out, for the box art. I like the built-ups on the boxes, too. 👍
If I'm not mistaking there's a kid that you can do that in real life put big block headers on a small block. Don't hold me to that but I think it is or was
the secret on header gasket leaks was to let the gaskets soak in water 24 hours before install. put 'em on wet, they'll form to any imperfections on the head (meanwhile you file the header flange flat, typically the issue was the welds from primary tubes to flange). when you fire the engine up, they dry in place and then you re-tighten.
@@buckster2575 unfortunately, the small block doesn't space the exhaust ports equally like a big block--the two "inside" exhaust ports are closer together.
Beautiful build 👌 wow
Needed to do a double take, I built the 65 Stingray in a very similar color. I'm loving this kit, definitely one I need to do. Another great build video from you!!!!! Always appreciate watching you
Another great one! 👍🏻
Finest kind. Great presentation
I want to find this kit! It's a natural to build a replica of the car that Dennis Hopper drove at the end of "King of the Mountain." Don't know how thrilled I'll be about building such a ratty version of such a beautiful car, with black sidepipes and gray primer spots, replacing the blowing with a single 4-barrel carb, but that's what his car looked like! Yours looks great! I don't take the time to do as much detail work as you do, so I really admire that.
Dang-"blower" Should have been "blower" not "blowing" 🙄
I’ve learned that it’s soooo much easier to open the blower hole in the hood with a Dremel and spiral cutting burr. Once you get close enough to the inside edges of the opening, grab your flat jeweler’s file and square up. 👍🏼
I really enjoy watching you put your models together, you make it look so easy and effort less... but I have picked up a lot of tips from watching and has me wanting to get more tools... thank you for the inspiration...
Thank you very much!
Wish more kits did the top/bottom engine split. But I think AMT's '69 Cougar came with a 1-piece block and that was the best thing ever.
it does avoid the obvious seamline thru the oil pan many split blocks offer.
This kit is on the top of my wish list of new releases. Great job as always.💪🤠👍
I just ordered mine today I built this a very long time ago so it was nice to see it back again . Lets see how I do on it this time. This one is the kind you wish you had a real one to drive around in.
Nice job Chris I like the way you went with it, I have done a few MPC kits , most of them went together pretty good some were a challenge but fun ,cheers 👍🇦🇺
This kit seems to have hold well thru time.
This was already on my list cause I knew as soon as you do the part's review and the build, I would want it. That air filter at 5:08, I had one of those on my '70 Monte Carlo. (1 to 1 scale of course), it was from Edelbrock and it sure let that engine breath good.
those "fly eye" have been tested against most other designs and they indeed work the best since they don't force incoming air to make a 90 degree bend into the choke horn of the carb.
She's SSWWEEETT Brother 👍👍 Excellent Work Chris, thanks For Sharing n God Bless All 🤗👍 Gary.
Awesome kit , great build as always .
What a finish.
SOOO KOOOOOLLLLLL .
Mike
That rear suspension looks like a pain in the ass! Great kit, though. I built this kit twice as a kid.
Beautiful work as always!
Looks good, though I notice one rear tire sticks out further on yours and on the box art.
Hope they reprint that Street Shark corvette soon...hint hint
Beautiful
Great stuff mate👍
Nice job!
I bought and built that kit when it was first originally released. I still have it. 😎🏁
PS... Those Centerline style mags weren't included before.
MPC kit. First time I put this together was early 80's. I have this kit in my drawer actually, as I type this. Took a 30 year vacation from model building :)
I just got this kit today from modelroundup. After watching ur video, I'm ordering another one. One kit I'll build like an early '70s 'custom' w/ side pipes & the corvette fuel injection (I'm pretty sure I saw that on the chrome tree). Not sure how I'll build the 2nd one.
You're right, Johnny. The MPC Rochester SBC Fuel Injection and factory air cleaner seem to be included on the trees. Thanks, MPC for including these parts from the ORIGINAL '64 release !!
Very nice build
Nice lookin Vette Chris. Great job as always, love those old MPC kits.
interesting, i always glued the lap belts in spun 90 degrees from how you did it.
Awesome build. That looks like the best engineered MPC kit I have ever seen, and you did a wonderful job putting it together. Great color choices, and not putting on the door decals was a great choice. Thanks for sharing.
Looking sharp, enjoyed this build, and nice to see these kits coming back out.thanks.
Really nice work Chris stay safe and positive keep up the great work
That go on a fresh air hood for a c-2 vette 😊
Sure would like to see the 55 form monogram built. Been waiting a long time to see that car and I'm a little biased because it's based off of my real car. love the channel. Keep up the good work.
Got mine ordered!
Goodyear Blue Streak Speedway Specials...I think.
Thanks for the video. I wasn't going to buy this kit but after seeing how nicely they got the body proportions I think I will pick one up!
Nice build Chris, perfect color choices 👌. Spot on presentation as always 👏👌👍
I wish Round 2 would bring back their nascar super truck series craftsman truck series race truck
model kits.
*Beautiful* work, *Chris* ! I remember building the early 1980's iteration of this kit (that's where the other wheels and the triangle air filtres come from), while wanting for the 1970's version (long out of production by c.1983).
I was hoping that you would've gel pen painted the raised letters on the rear tyres, but those decals look great ne'er-the-less.
Keep up the *great* work !
I really enjoy your channel and I never start on my own copy until I've watched your video first ! Any way we could get some new music to go along with the videos ? Please keep the reviews coming 1
Nice!
Beautiful build!
To be really old school you should have heated up that xacto knife with a candle flame lol
Magnifique travail ! vraiment Top ! juste une petite question, quelle peinture utilisée vous pour les chromes ? merci d'avance :-)
Hi, Chris! Great job, as always! Just an observation, but I'm curious: you always show the brands, and colors of the paints you use. I've noticed that when you're using Testors silver, the bottle is always turned around where we can't see the front label. Is there a reason, or is it just coincidence? 😁
Why didnt you video assembling the front suspension?
👌
what glue do you use on your model kits
can you do a nother sprint car model plz
If one of the companies reissues one, yes. Currently none are offered.
@@hpiguy ok thank you so much ;- )
What cement are you using 🤔
What happened to the driver?
Whare can I find the gel pencils you use
You can google them to see where they are for sale near you.
I got them at a craft store.
@@hpiguy thank you
Them ain’t stripes their stingers 😊
Very nice build. Too bad MPC did not make it a "split" window style body. Still very nice work.
On the dental tools that you have on hand. Years ago I found a very nice - set of 10 - in a nice leather, zippered pouch - from Duluth Trading (yes, the same company
that sells jeans and flannel shirts on line). There were 10 different scribes, picks, and curved tools - all stainless steel. Seems to me that the price was around $25.
