*8-4-3 Option:*
Red: 23 pts production, first/second settle 31/34 production, strong OWS, all 5 resources after settle, 3 settlement spots.
Blue: 21 pts production, first/second settle 27/37 production, starting road, strong OWS, strong roadbuilding, all 5 resources before settle, 3.5 settlement spots
*9-11-10 Option:*
Red: 22 pts production, first/second settle 29/38 production, starting road, strong roadbuilding, no wheat, 4 settlement spots
Blue: 22 pts production, first/second settle 27/32 production, OWS but low Ore, all 5 resources before settle, 3 settlement spots
If Drew takes the 843 victory relies on winning a 3 horse race for Army, or getting 2 VPs with 3 cities. Meanwhile Blue gets uncontested Road, really high production from expansions and can draw 1 VP and build 3 cities to win. Blue can also plow Orange for a 5th settlement spot instead of pulling for a VP.
In the 9-10-11 scenario, Drew's setup relies on getting early Wheat trades, and to make 2 points from either cities or VPs. It's not ideal given the Wheat will be tied up late game. But the clincher is that Blue gets so much less in this scenario.
@@arnavagrawal3786 another way to look at it is that he won in spite of Wheat getting robbed twice at 20-25% odds.

Great game Dandy! Just two points:
- At around 10:10, Orange is actually accept your initial trade but you did not notice :D
- You can extend your road at 3-Desert without being contested with orange.
Wow, such a cool game and strategy! It's really tempting to take the 8 wheat. For you to see that and being the lone road player was really high level play imo
At 23:57 you say you don’t have a winning roll but the 11 allows you to road settle.
9 is winning too, 10 wood, 5 sheep, 8 wood for 2 brick 4 sheep for a wheat.

@@danielmosher8459If a 9 rolled, I don't there would be enough wood in the bank to distribute. There's only question mark which means there's 7 or less in the bank I'm fairly sure. A 9 rolling means 7 wood has to be distributed so unless there is exactly 7 wood in the bank, no one will get any wood.

I think for pick 1 the 5/9/10 is simply better than the 5/8/10. You lose a point of production, but gain best road material and there is a ton of wheat on the board to come back to. The key consideration is that 5/9/6 is now no longer available for second pick which is huge. It evens out the board a lot and justifies not taking it in the first place.
The 6/9/11 is just so much worse than 5/6/9 in terms of consistency. It’s a 4 point of production loss once citied, and is central to the board offering no ports.

You should have built to the 3 wheat for your last settle.instead of risking the plow from orange no?
when you only have the ONE road (like he did in this situation) it would actually be much easier for orange to plow on the 3 wheat, since he would only need to use the road builder and does not need to put the settle as well. now of cause that would not contribute to potential longest road for orange, since he splits his roads in that case. but the board could have convinced orange anyway, or sweeten the deal by giving him good trades for his sacrifice
