Tbh I'd rather more time at the start spent analysing positions. You can show players stats at the end? I feel that looking at Player stats too much before the game leads you to playing the person more than the game (sometimes)
@@DyLightedCatan Win rate means nothing unless on the extremes. There are 25-30% win rate players that are crazy strong. It is a game with dice after all.

I think I would've placed my second settlement on the 5-4-11 and pointed down. You get an extra high producing sheep tile, you cut off blue and red, and you can still get to the 9-10-11. The 2 wheat is just weak.
4/9/11 blocks red and blue also but agreed, then he also doesn’t have to race black and has uncontested expansion

Disagree. The only person you cut off is blue connecting their roads which they don’t rly need to do to get road anyways. And yes the two wheat is weak but after you settle 2-9-10 you can plow black to the 6-2 brick port which is amazing. More wheat (which you don’t have a lot of) and you saw how the brick port won him the game
@@jewishjonah no he’s still racing black either way. If black settles 2-9-10 he can’t settle 9-10-11. So it’s a race either way. Going on the 4-9-11 means you can plow to the 6-2 brick port which is huge and won him the gane
I disagree, you're not cutting anyone off actually. If you do that you have a higher chance of being cut off by blue who has strong wood and brick. Also you don't really need the extra sheep very much. You already have high sheep and you're likely going to lose the race to the sheep port if that's your strat.

funny you mention watching YT at 1.5 speed affecting you. I literally have to watch your videos at .75 speed, so that you sound normal to me and I can take in what you're talking about

Hey Dylan, love the content and upload schedule. Can you make a video on tips for tracking? Do you track every player's entire hand? If I am not good enough to track every player's entire hand, should I just focus on an important resource like wheat?

I know I often complain, but no complaints here... textbook CM strategy (we calling it CM?), easy win. An alternative was to get the wheat port for triple ore, but this was quite simple and clean.

Probably, Catan leaderboards are just about who plays more. Not about who is better
@@kidkid not true. Dandy drew has less than 60 games while other people on the leader board are sporting 200 to 300 games

Skill is obviously an important factor on the leaderboards but when you see a guy with a winrate under 30% in the top 50 you have to realize that winrate isn't as important as you think. If Dylan does what he says and plays a lot he will probably be able to beat Dandy even with a lower win%.
@@kidkid if a person has 30% winrate in top 10, he def. deserves to be there, this is his true reflection of his level. If he has a higher winrate and is still ranked so high, it means he is just better than people around him. If there were more people who played catan, like 1000x or 10 000x more, than you would see most of the people in top 100 with around 30% winrates, maybe only 28%.
@@AdamLighter1 I would agree IF the matchmaking on colonist was fair, even top players don't always get matched with players of equal skill.
Take blue in this game for example. He made some questionable plays and that road was just out right dumb.
Keep in mind Dylan was top 50 in this game and got matched with that player, blue is not a top 50 level player, not even close.

why was the 4-5-11 not an option as second settlement instead of the 4-9-11, gives you more diverse numbers of sheep with the port you're close to?

If the 6-2 was so game changing for your position, why didn't you try to trade for Wood to cut Black off to it when you had 3 Brick and 2 Wood. Instead you settled on the 10-9-2 but you already had a city on the 10 Wheat, so the extra production wasn't doing much. The board was flooded with Wood so I think the trade was very possible.
I recently watch your videos and I wonder what do you mean with those "points" of production, like 10 points ore production or 13 points grain production
The count of dots on each number tells you relatively how often it rolls, e.g. numbers 6 and 8 both have 5 dots, meaning they each roll 5 out of 36 times. He then multiplies the dots by settlements/cities to get expected production. For example a city on a 6 is 5 dots * 2 = 10 expect resources per 36 rolls.

I disagree with the comment on red’s first placement, if they had taken the 9 3 6 the outs would have been quite bad
I think with 9-3-6 the outs are 4-3-8 and 10-8, which do not look bad to me. Unlikely black will take both since he would be playing with low wheat and no sheep, so he would be unable to use his ore.
This said, I like reds first placement since I would not like giving black the 4-3-8 with a free road.

Hey Dylan, great vid again! I just wanted to add that athletics/sports are naturally about biological differences, e.g. a short guy won't be in the NBA yet no one gets upset that massively tall people are outcompeting everyone else. Imo that's why trans athletes should be allowed to compete -- trans women are women, and trans men are men. I think looking at hormones in isolation is a bad way to go too. Some cis women are naturally born with more testosterone. A famous example of this is there are two women who are not being allowed to race at Tokyo Olympics (Mboma & Masilingi), does that seem fair? Should people be disqualified for being biologically gifted? Should Michael Phelps be banned because his body is naturally perfect for swimming?
Probably. At least start doing what wrestling does and only let you compete against people with similar biological traits
exactly, the conversation isn't really about sports that's just an easy excuse to act like this isn't ideological but even then, the best of the best are always genetic freaks, Phelps has huge hands and Ben Swolo shoulders, Usain Bolt is like 75% legs, most marathon winners grow up in Kenya and develop giga lungs in their childhood because the whole country is like 2 km above sea level.
Sports are inherently unfair and it's not like trans athletes are dominating women fields, bigots just pick out the creme de la creme and rarley cover some random trans athlete who finishes middle of the pack all the time.
kinda dissappointed in Dylan here ngl, the video is trash that presents both sides as just people having a debate when in reality one of those sides never cared about women sports, would have been against women sports back in the day when they weren't a thing and only pick up on this issue because it's an easy way to rile people up.

@@hooblagoo I hope not. I mean by putting the vid he worked on in this catan vid, he's opening himself up to criticism and discussion about the issue. I definitely don't blame him for contributing to something that is *trying* to appear both sides/middle ground-ish when it comes to transphobia, since that's the normative position in society (and Dylan like many of us are products of what we are exposed to). I'm hoping Dylan sees this though as a possible learning experience, and I definitely think people are more than capable of changing their minds.
So to Dylan and anyone else watching, I would encourage you to look up vids by Hasanabi on trans women in sports if you're interested. There are of course lots of good videos on the topic from trans women themselves, I just like Hasan's approach and reasoning.
