Or at least something like the Imperious mod does, where every race has some quest that unlocks a new perk/power once finished. (Hunting game for Bosmer, killing things marked by your ancestors for Dunmer, and other creative ones.)
Skyrim was my first eldar scrolls game. I knew nothing about it, except that the protagonist was called the dragonborn. So I picked the most dragon-like character.
Some misconceptions in the video: Argonians do emote using facial expressions, though they are mostly detectable by other argonians. Argonians who leave black marsh always have the innate connection to their Hist. Only those who are born without the aid of Hist sap do not have a connection. The hist will often send argonians away on tasks/adventures to collect information for them. The argonians aren’t so much as slaves to the hist as you are a slave to your own brain.
@@Jotunn96 So when wizzard have telepathic connection to his familliar it means familliar is the wizzard? Or when two wizzards have telepathic connection to other wizzard it means that we have one wizzard? But then which one? Also this telepathic connection works more on Hist side. So that would means that Hist is a wizzard and Argonians are his familliars.
JKGF That's a very loose comparison. A more accurate one which is actually used in the lore is that the hist is like a daedric prince and the argonians are like dremora. And unlike wizards and familiars both sides gain from the relationship in different ways even if one of them holds most of the power.
Add the mechanic fact you can't fight underwater and there is nothing much underwater without mods...... It's basically not worth it..... (Even some of the Story Mechanics don't really support Argonians.) (For Skyrim)
Dillon Brunschon pretty sure it used to be that Skyrim’s version of Vampires were Aquatic by nature, living in frozen water or something. (Read it in one of the first book I came across in Oblivion.) But lore stuff seems to change all the time.
I finally started my first argonian character, Claps-Many-Cheeks, and waterbreathing is nice. I use a mod that does a lightweight rework of racials, removing all of the active effects and making passive effects that replace them, and argonians get super swim speed, and they regen hp quickly while underwater. Pretty nice way to travel or escape
For me personally, it's absolutely worth it. I will always choose to live as an Argonian, given the choice. I love the culture and the lifestyle of the Argonians. They are the most interesting to me, and in my opinion, the superior race. Sure, I am often discriminated against, but that is the fault of the ignorant men and mer, not of the Argonians. If certain people do not wish to do business with me based on my race, I wouldn't want to do business with them anyway. And I would love to just spend my life in Black Marsh if Bethesda would allow me.
imagine playing a fantasty rpg just to play a human i usually choose elves, even if they are quite a bland choice generally speaking, but khajiit and argonians are cool just in my opinion
I usually play Argonians because I love subverting the expectations of the dominant cultures in TES gains. Like having an Argonian Nerevarine or Dragonborn.
@@angela_merkeI lets not forget the Argonians were warned by the hist about the oblivion crisis so they were prepared while the other races were caught off guard .
@@Dethfield I mean, canonically he stopped opening gates in Black Marsh during the crisis because the hist made the Argonians become temporarily jacked as they began invading Oblivion. To me, the Hist is the remaining consciousness of Lorkhan (I mean, they're like space trees right? and the only other planetoids we know are the moons, which are said to be the corpse of Lorkhan), and Argonians basically his equivalent of Dremora, as unlike the other races of Tamriel, there has been little involvement of the Princes with the Argonians at large, as far as I know, as opposed to Malacath and Orcs, Azura with the Dunmer and Khajiit, etc.) That's my theory, anyway.
JKGF the hist is literally the reason they exist, can change themselves biologically at any time and were not only able to repel but flat out massacre the daedric invaders during the oblivion crisis.
Well... is existing to serve a eternal master actually worth it? I mean that would not be symbiosis to me. Nord get to live by their rights and go to Sovngarde... now that's a symbiosis, Shor gains worship, Nords gain eternal enjoyment.
@@LokiSeidrGodI mean Symbiosis in the natural way. The Hist gifted lizards souls and humanoid forms to protect and serve their will and the Argonians gain Intelligence and sentience as well as the ability to reincarnate via the Hist roots.
Boobs not only serve for nursing children in mammals, they're also meant to attract males. So maybe that's why 🤷♂️ or it's the same reason boob armor exists: because boobies.
Khajiit or Bretons would be my choice. Both have great aspects and advantages. Bretons: Magic resistance. Magic absorption. Generally decent looking. Naturally well rounded in magic and physical skills. Khajiit: Can see in dark. Very stealthy. Claws if your disarmed. Refer to yourself in 3rd person. Barbed Penis. Hard choice!
@@Vencidious Yeah but the Khajiits are more effective. But the argonians do get a small damage bonus, better than a man or elves nails by far either way.
I just can't play as a human type race or elf as those have been played out millions of times in most games. Playing as the underdog race is the only choice for me, plus I can always use the imperious races of skyirim mod along with Daggerfall traits in order to get spell absorption or magic resistance.
While Breton remain my first choice, Argonians have been my favorite beast race since Morrowind. Love their lore and background. Especially knowing that each tribe is both physically and culturally different from one another.
@@juliopadilla2840 even tho the argonians were the only race able to fend off against mehrunes dagon's wrath of dremora everyone else was slaughtered to near extinction. Have fun getting destroyed by a daedra prince one day.
I love the genderswap concept, and it's what makes Argonian rival Khajiit for me. I just love the beast race concepts. My Argonian was a restoration mage and assassin that used poison and disease restoration (modded) magic, a bit of alteration for paralysis, alchemy poisons, and Dragonborn spider scrolls. One of my most unique playthroughs, honestly
This was fascinating. I ALWAYS play as an Argonian and Kajiit. They make the best sneaks and thieves but the Argonian has the added edge of not getting disease, being able to traverse through water with no issues and still have plenty of room to build up in archery, weapons both single and double handed as well as all the wonders of the arcane. Plus, they simply are the coolest looking of all the races. Easy. The Skyrim level up system really helps move the dial along in so many schools and fields. I’m currently replaying and my Argonian is a thief in the night, a powerful magician who is yet still super savvy with his bow and his war hammers. No need for shields and armor for him either. Robes and magic do him plenty well along with the Histhskin ability.
My first and favorite character was an Argonian werewolf who wore the bones of the dragons he killed and wielded a burning daedric sword in his right and lighting in his left. He slayed the world eater, prevented the Tyranny of the Sun prophecy, defeated the first dragon born, whipped out the dark brotherhood, took Skyrim for the empire. And after all his adventures he married ysolda in whiterun and built a home in falkreath.
With how handily the Hist-led Argonians were able to react to the Oblivion Crisis, wouldn't that imply the Hist allowed Argonians to be taken into slavery?
Yes its well implied throughout the series that Argonians are basically just bodyguards the hist made themselves, and the hist only ever does the bare minimum to keep the argonions alive and populated to keep their defence force ready to protect them. The oblivion crisis is one of the best examples of this, as the hist supercharged the argonians solely to protect themselves. The Argonians made the choice to battle in dagons realm and the hist only kept them powered up in there because it would act as a deterrent for future invasions.
@@narupiv I wonder if the Hist have some backroom deal with the Telvanni. Those wizards used a lot of Argonian slaves, some for far worse fates than plantation work, yet they were left relatively untouched.
@@narupiv The Hist only care for Argonian as a whole race, not as individuals. Some argonians being slaves means that they will be seen as an useful resource that should be preserved instead of an enemy that must be destroyed.
I have just started an Argonian sellsword build, never played as one before and it is fantastic. This video has helped me refine him a fair bit. Heck, all the videos on this channel are super helpful and extremely interesting. So thank you.
For me being an Argonian is worth it, because I love the idea of having hive-mind like connection to your homeland. I would to be born as Argonian in the Bright-Throat tribe born as brightly colored peace loving lizard be just lovely
I would hope that being an Argonian would give me a deeper appreciation of life in a tribe, in a swamp, than I imagine I would in the real world. If nothing else I'm drawn to the peaceful existence as opposed to what I presume might be a more chaotic life as a Nord or an Imperial.
What's not to like? Well, your homeland being plot nuked by Bethesda, for starters. And those raspy voices aren't a plus either. Probably all that damn ash in the air, though.
Being a dunmer is a great pick... if you're not in the 4th era. I think the best race to be is Altmer, since the other good option, dunmer, have problems in the 4th era. They live very long, they know magic which is fun and practical, women love them (seriously, you wouldn't believe how many girls love Ondolemar on the internet), and most of them seem to live in relative luxury. The only downsides is nords and redguards can be assholes to you sometimes, and you have to live to the high expectations of your society. Don't like the dominion? No problem, you can be a Direnni altmer, or a Cyrodiil altmer.
When I play my Argonian mage in ESO, I always roleplay it as her having been born away from Blackmarsh among men and mer. It makes all the questions asked regarding Argonian culture make sense, as she's looking to realise her heritage.
I don't know about being a regular argoninan.. but that Argoninan from the Oblivion game that runs around stating "Memememememememe.. memememememe.." sounds really fun.
Gabriel Arkangelo she's actually saying "Ni Ni Ni...", and is secretly one of the Knights who used to say "Ni!" who now say "Ekke Ekke Ekke Ekke Ptang Zoo Boing!"
I love getting the early morning notification about new videos! So excited about this new series and cannot wait to hear about the rest. I would be an argonian because I believe they are so cool and unique but it would be a tough life for sure. Please do the khajiits next! They’re my favorite
Great concept for a series, I’m looking forward to see the rest of it, particularly how you address the High Elves and the relation between the regular folks and the Thalmor. One of my favorite characters that I’ve ever played was a high elf noble who’s family was ousted from power when the Thalmor took control and I’m anxious to see if my own head canon aligns at all with where y’all are at.
Dude I have no idea why but I pick argonians EVERY DAMN TIME. I love how many different characters you can make with skin and feather color, and all the different face colors. Argonians are so damn cool.
Everytime I play as a sweet roll some random generic Kahjiit thief player LITERALLY steals my girl....so as fun as sitting around doing nothing all day is....No
@@derkreuzfahrer9134 Sleeping Tree Sap, which comes from hist trees, is considered a drug in Skyirm. Much like skooma is a drug, even tho both are socially acceptable in their respective countries
You’ve made a very sensible presentation that really sticks to lore and facts of Skyrim; however, the opportunity for a Argonian to become a “super lizard” against the giant lizards, dragons, is a possible adventure cue. By becoming something or someone admired by all the races that had distained Argonians in the past and establishing worth and revenance for the race, could be worth it!
Nah, they're engineered lizards who worship alien trees... Now khajiits... khajiits are were it's at... though if I had a choice either altmer for that lifespan and magic, or nord
@Ahmed Ghazi wow that's so racist. The nords are like any other human group. They have both a strong bardic tradition, and who's culture is strong and traditional. They're only barbaric to people with sticks up their ass. The orsimer have been rejected by every other race. The strongholds are simple, but the true culture is in the traditional saxked orsinium like any other people they have a culture. Just because it's a warrior tradition doesn't mean it's terrible. Let's apply it to the dunmer, who have a warrior caste and legal assassination. Or the altmer, who think that they have the right to treat everyone else as inferior
@Ahmed Ghazi the altmer are weaker on average. They are arrogant and cruel, enslaving goblins and have an obsession with ethnic purity. The dunmer culture is incredibly xenophobic, cruel, and often times insane Both have lost to the races of mankind, both are just as cruel, petty, and stupid as everyone else.
You can go exploring as a Argonian. Build a boat and take it out, go swimming in the depths and explore the oceans and inlets around Tamriel. Literally no one has done any significant water exploration, except maybe redguards. And with waterbreathing, you can explore the oceans to your hearts content.
They became my favorite race when I started as one in Oblivion, I became a vampire and the sun came up when I was out adventuring, I was in the final stage of it so I was taking damage from the sun. I couldn't fast travel because of that so I ran to a near by lake and jumped in and dove to the bottom and the sunlight stopped damaging me; I was able to wait until sundown since I could breathe underwater. Also disease resistance and being able to change my face and even gender if I want sounds pretty cool.

1) I wouldn't care about what strangers think of me. 2) Lizard Bois saved Tamriel in Oblivion 3) My actions would speak volumes of my intentions. 4) I can swim in any body of water 5) Argonians are the underdogs of Tamriel 6) I believe that the Dragonborn is canonically an Argonian An Argonian is my all-choice
I'd definitely be an Argonian, no question about it. I already don't move around much, so if I was an Argonian, I could just do what I normally do, but as a lizard person! Win win.
Great video, can't wait for the next ones! :) I really like the idea for this series, the lore aspect gets ignored way too often in these "You should play this race" kinda videos
It is entirely possible that the human writing the story ether didn’t know that or didn’t care and just wanted his fantasy fulfilled in writing. Technically, the lusty Argonian maid is only a book character to the people in Tamriel, not a historical figure!
@@Monderoth Well, it does bring up an important question about Argonian biology. If Argonians are egg laying reptiles, while do female Argonians have breasts?
weldonwin Well the two don’t exactly rule each other out. Even baring the idea that they’re reptiles molded into the shapes of humans, there are still mammals in the monotreme order who produce both milk and eggs so the two don’t rule each other out!
The Argonians do not have a great disadvantage when it comes to interacting with the people outside Black Marsh. The discrimination in Tamriel is not based so much on physical aspects, but on the conflicts that have been had with other nations. An Argonian would suffer a lot of discrimination in Morrowind due to the conflicts they have had with Black Marsh, but that same Argonian would not have many problems in Cyrodiil, Hammerfell, Valenwood, etc. Just check Skyrim, the discrimination suffered by the Argonians does not compare to that suffered by the elves, especially the Dunmers. There even seems to be more discrimination against the imperial than against the Argonian.
the dunmer are allowed and own property in windhelm, the argonians are crammed into a small room outside of windhelm and not allowed into the city proper.
@@jessecosgriff7610 If I remember correctly, this is to prevent the Argonians and Dunmer from killing each other. And this is only in the city of Windhelm, in the other cities there is no problem with the Argonians. They are even business owners like in Riften.
@@void9399 maven black-briar owns the bee and barb, talen-jai and keerava only work there. the only argonian that seems to own a buisness is modesi, where as there are several establishments all around skyrim that are owned by dunmer, there is : new gnisis cornerclub, the white phial, sadri's used wares, and calixto's house of curiosities. plus Aval's merchant stand (inside windhelm, the only place that you hear specific discrimination against dunmer) hlaalu farm (outside windhelm) drunken huntsman (whiterun) all the places on solstheim( only mentioning not really counting for obvious reasons) the fletcher (solitude) the point is that the dunmer at least seem to be able to own property while the argonians dont, they all have to live either in one bunkroom outside of windhelm (not even allowed inside) or in some other bunkhouse in riften. so if we are talking about discrimination, being allowed to own property seems alot less discriminatory than being forced to live in a single common area and not even allowed to enter the city you are employed by. i understand that the dunmer are being "contained" in the slums in windhelm, and that they are being discriminated against, but they are at least allowed to own property and run several successful businesses. and you only see dunmer discrimination physically in windhelm. and yes you hear nords yell that "skyrim belongs to the nords" and "damn elves" but they dont even refer to argonians as their title, only lizards and that they will use their remains as ornamentation.
@@jessecosgriff7610 I think you're wrong, both the Wiki and IGN claim that Keevara and Talen-Jei are the owners of The Bee and Barb. Even the comments between Keevara and Talen make it clear that they buy the Mead from Maven. Logically, if Maven were the owner of the inn, they would not have to buy the mead, since she would supply it because it was her own business. elderscrolls.fandom.com/wiki/The_Bee_and_Barb www.ign.com/wikis/the-elder-scrolls-5-skyrim/The_Bee_and_Barb Modesi is also the owner of his own jewelry business. In Solitude there is also Gulum-Ei, who works for the East Empire Company, taking charge of the warehouse in that city. That is a very important position for the company, so it also highlights the confidence that Argonians have. In the Winterhold area you can discover the body of an argonian that belonged to the College, and also during the main story of that faction you can see the spectral form of Takes-In-Light, another Argonian that belonged to the College. So in the College there does not seem to be discrimination against the Argonians either. The only place that shows something like this is Windhelm, although in that place it also discriminates against all those who are not nords, and as I said before, this measure seems to be focused on preventing a greater conflict between dunmers and argonians Another point to take into account is that in Skyrim there are not many NPCs that are argonians, which makes sense because it is a cold place, a climate that the argonians do not like, and Black Marsh is in a very strong state, which makes no sense for the argonians to get out of there. On the contrary, due to the lore of Red Mountain, there are many NPCs that are dunmer. But although there are not many Argonians, those examples that I put make it clear that the few that are there, they are in a position of power and trust. So discrimination does not seem to be a high factor with the Argonians We must remember that in Skyrim there are many negative comments towards all races that are not nords, so it is a mistake to fall into the cherry picking to try to say that the nords refer to the argonians in a worse way. But something that stands out a lot is that almost the majority of the negative comments that random NPCs say are against Imperials and Elves. Which makes sense due to the civil war with the Empire and the long history of conflicts against the elves Another element to support the idea that the Argonians do not suffer so much discrimination is found in Oblivion. In this game a certain disposition was implemented between the different races, and the Argonians were among the races that did not have positive or negative elements with other races. On the contrary, the Dunmer had -10 with the Argonians and Altmer, and -5 with all the other races. So with this dynamic, the designers showed the type of conflicts and discrimination that different races usually have. From a lore point of view, it also makes sense, because the Dunmers have been slavers, have been in several wars with humans, and are often elitist, on the contrary, the Argonians tend to keep away from conflicts, and do not usually have severe problems with the other races.
@@void9399 first of all i would like to say that i am loving this conversation about some of my favorite games, thank you for this Gabriel. as to oblivion, the Argonians lore wise were neutral because of their aggression towards the Daedra (the Daedra had to close all the portals in Black Marsh because the Argonians were so effective that they counter invaded the Daedric realms), and that they had trade relations to the empire, but live in an alien way in an alien environment. i mean, in the video we are having a discussion on, it is said that the other races have a hard time relating to Argonians because they don't emote in the same way most folk do. where as openly Daedric worshiping Dunmer were seen negatively during the oblivion crisis, i don't think it had much to do with them being Dunmer themselves but rather the Dunmer were seen as conspirators to the Daedra(which was not the case, just an easy target) back to skyrim: gulum-ei is not in control of the east empire company warehouse in any regard, he works there as a front for his thieves guild operation, and in the thieves guild quest to follow him, he takes an unknown back entrance into bandit controled territory, vittoria vici is the current... i guess "foreman" would be the correct term(depending on the dark brotherhood quest status) any time you need to have items released that are being held by the east empire company in solitude, you talk to her. to the point you made about the Argonian mages, you are absolutely correct that the college does not discriminate(besides the school of restoration), the archmage is a Dunmer afterall (or...was). on to talen-jei and keerava are under the employ of Maven black-briar. they get generally listed as owners because they are the merchants tied to that location. maven tells you during the thieves guild questline that she owns the bee and barb as well as the brewery they don't claim to buy the mead, only that they need to get more form her. you are also right that there are drastically less Argonian NPCs than Dunmer which leads me to the "quantity" portion of your argument, that the small amount of Argonians we see in game hold positions of trust and a modicum of power. to this i refer you to my list of several locations where Dunmer do in fact solely OWN and operate their businesses (the list numbered eight if i'm not mistaken) where as there are only two instances of Argonians holding positions of anything other than indentured servitude, or menial labor. those being the aforementioned Modesi, Talen-Jei, and Keerava. on your stance claiming that the reason they don't let Argonians into windhelm for the sole reason of preventing conflict, i ask for proof, as i have sunken hundreds upon hundreds of hours into the game and have never once heard any sort of dialogue that points to this or even mentions it. fact of the matter is the Argonian workers in windhelm have no property to own and the Dunmer do. finally the "cherry-picking" you refer to also acknowledged that the Nords call out hateful thing towards all races that are not themselves Nords. i quoted the lines: "skyrim belongs to the Nords!" and the vastly over-used "damn elves!". i don't see how that was cherry-picking, my point there was to show that the nords still call the elves "elves" while they don't seem to care enough about the Argonians to label them anything other than animals, and threaten to mutilate their corpses to make clothing. they do this with the Khajit as well calling them "cats". all in all, i believe that Argonians are treated worse throught skyrim specifically and in a worse manner that the Dunmer. i hope you read this carefully and that you see my point of view, and even if you don't i hope you have as much fun as i did holding this debate with you.
What would I be? Knowing my luck, I'd probably be reincarnated as a Skeever, have my den attacked by some dragon-slaying asshole, then get soul trapped, killed, and sold to Belethor for 20-something Septims.
Breton myself. In a fantasy world, I'd want to pursue magic, and the rustic hills and deep forests of High Rock really appeal to me. Being a High Elf would also be tempting, but Definitely not in the Fourth Era.
To be fair, in lore every race has it's strong and weak moments. Risings and downfalls in history and saga. Which is great, because it really gives that traveller of fortune kind of vibe, where your own decisions will shape your destiny. Personally, I do like to go with Argonians and Khajit, because they don't feel like another Human/Elf variant. Don't get me wrong, I also like my Dunmer and Orsimer, but they just aren't all that exotic.
supernova582 it’s very interesting many people don’t like you. If you play as an Argonian they often comment on that. And yes I think the Argonians are the most hated race in The Elder Scrolls universe.
As a dunmer you just get hated by nerds saying were spys from the aldmary Dominion, or nords general distrust of elfs I understand it's based on Ignorance but overall it's not too bad alto we get called milk drinkers also we get hate from the Argoneions and some from orcs the high elfs think poorly of us but the other races are fine
@@supernova582 as an always argonian, I don't get treated nearly as bad as the fool who calls an argonian with the mace of molag baal and azura's black star a lizard. They typically get turned into either a boot enchantment or a shield one.
What would I want to be? Either Imperial or High Elf. I tend to keep my head in a textbook anyway, so it would be ideal to either be a High Elf and have the magic affinity and intellect, or be an Imperial to be a moth priest, Synod, or a battlemage, perhaps even a diplomat on the elder council.

Cons: Covered in scales, so sense of touch and other sensations are dulled. No feeling fluffy doggos or kitty bois. Hugs and other intimate acts will not be as intimate and dangerous to both parties (kissing with that schnawz would be bloody at best.) Clawed fingers affect how you interact with people and objects designed for fleshy hands/ paws. Also affects how you interact with fleshy peeps. Handshakes could get awkward and messy, and walking in a crowd could accidentally get someone scraped on your scales. Followed up with insurance scams and fraud. Fangs limit the kind of food you can consume and damage done to eating utensils, musical instruments, etc. An alligator tail that knocks over everything and anything everytime you move. Think of the Nord children daring each other to run up and touch your tail every time they see you... Or the insurance fraud again. Clothing everywhere outside of Blackmarsh doesn't compliment biology and you have to get-gud-son at sewing. Raspy voice and facial limitations affect all "irl" charisma checks- positive persuasion, bard/ singing pleasantly to humans/ mer, deceipt. (Flipside your poker face would likey be insane). Weather interactions. Scales are hardly the best insulation from cold, heat, etc. Regardless of being warm or cold blooded, Argonian biology simply wouldn't deal with weather changes well. (Plus side, you're waterproof against rain, but if it freezes under your scales you are in trouble.) I could go on, but I gotta get back to work :)

One of my most unique playthroughs, honestly
That doesn't matter to me I just like the lizard race because it's the underdog race.

And after all his adventures he married ysolda in whiterun and built a home in falkreath.
I got NOTHING against Argonians.
They are awesome.

@Ahmed Ghazi thats some real life prejudice against a fictional race "this race stupid"
@Ahmed Ghazi the altmer are weaker on average. They are arrogant and cruel, enslaving goblins and have an obsession with ethnic purity. The dunmer culture is incredibly xenophobic, cruel, and often times insane
Both have lost to the races of mankind, both are just as cruel, petty, and stupid as everyone else.

@@jessecosgriff7610
If I remember correctly, this is to prevent the Argonians and Dunmer from killing each other. And this is only in the city of Windhelm, in the other cities there is no problem with the Argonians. They are even business owners like in Riften.
@@void9399 maven black-briar owns the bee and barb, talen-jai and keerava only work there. the only argonian that seems to own a buisness is modesi, where as there are several establishments all around skyrim that are owned by dunmer, there is :
new gnisis cornerclub, the white phial, sadri's used wares, and calixto's house of curiosities. plus Aval's merchant stand (inside windhelm, the only place that you hear specific discrimination against dunmer)
hlaalu farm (outside windhelm)
drunken huntsman (whiterun)
all the places on solstheim( only mentioning not really counting for obvious reasons)
the fletcher (solitude)
the point is that the dunmer at least seem to be able to own property while the argonians dont, they all have to live either in one bunkroom outside of windhelm (not even allowed inside) or in some other bunkhouse in riften.
so if we are talking about discrimination, being allowed to own property seems alot less discriminatory than being forced to live in a single common area and not even allowed to enter the city you are employed by. i understand that the dunmer are being "contained" in the slums in windhelm, and that they are being discriminated against, but they are at least allowed to own property and run several successful businesses. and you only see dunmer discrimination physically in windhelm. and yes you hear nords yell that "skyrim belongs to the nords" and "damn elves" but they dont even refer to argonians as their title, only lizards and that they will use their remains as ornamentation.
@@jessecosgriff7610
I think you're wrong, both the Wiki and IGN claim that Keevara and Talen-Jei are the owners of The Bee and Barb. Even the comments between Keevara and Talen make it clear that they buy the Mead from Maven. Logically, if Maven were the owner of the inn, they would not have to buy the mead, since she would supply it because it was her own business.
elderscrolls.fandom.com/wiki/The_Bee_and_Barb
www.ign.com/wikis/the-elder-scrolls-5-skyrim/The_Bee_and_Barb
Modesi is also the owner of his own jewelry business.
The only place that shows something like this is Windhelm, although in that place it also discriminates against all those who are not nords, and as I said before, this measure seems to be focused on preventing a greater conflict between dunmers and argonians
Another point to take into account is that in Skyrim there are not many NPCs that are argonians, which makes sense because it is a cold place, a climate that the argonians do not like, and Black Marsh is in a very strong state, which makes no sense for the argonians to get out of there. On the contrary, due to the lore of Red Mountain, there are many NPCs that are dunmer. But although there are not many Argonians, those examples that I put make it clear that the few that are there, they are in a position of power and trust. So discrimination does not seem to be a high factor with the Argonians
We must remember that in Skyrim there are many negative comments towards all races that are not nords, so it is a mistake to fall into the cherry picking to try to say that the nords refer to the argonians in a worse way. But something that stands out a lot is that almost the majority of the negative comments that random NPCs say are against Imperials and Elves. Which makes sense due to the civil war with the Empire and the long history of conflicts against the elves
Another element to support the idea that the Argonians do not suffer so much discrimination is found in Oblivion.
@@void9399 first of all i would like to say that i am loving this conversation about some of my favorite games, thank you for this Gabriel.
as to oblivion, the Argonians lore wise were neutral because of their aggression towards the Daedra (the Daedra had to close all the portals in Black Marsh because the Argonians were so effective that they counter invaded the Daedric realms), and that they had trade relations to the empire, but live in an alien way in an alien environment. i mean, in the video we are having a discussion on, it is said that the other races have a hard time relating to Argonians because they don't emote in the same way most folk do. where as openly Daedric worshiping Dunmer were seen negatively during the oblivion crisis, i don't think it had much to do with them being Dunmer themselves but rather the Dunmer were seen as conspirators to the Daedra(which was not the case, just an easy target)
back to skyrim: gulum-ei is not in control of the east empire company warehouse in any regard, he works there as a front for his thieves guild operation, and in the thieves guild quest to follow him, he takes an unknown back entrance into bandit controled territory, vittoria vici is the current... i guess "foreman" would be the correct term(depending on the dark brotherhood quest status) any time you need to have items released that are being held by the east empire company in solitude, you talk to her. to the point you made about the Argonian mages, you are absolutely correct that the college does not discriminate(besides the school of restoration), the archmage is a Dunmer afterall (or...was). on to talen-jei and keerava are under the employ of Maven black-briar. they get generally listed as owners because they are the merchants tied to that location. maven tells you during the thieves guild questline that she owns the bee and barb as well as the brewery they don't claim to buy the mead, only that they need to get more form her. you are also right that there are drastically less Argonian NPCs than Dunmer which leads me to the "quantity" portion of your argument, that the small amount of Argonians we see in game hold positions of trust and a modicum of power. to this i refer you to my list of several locations where Dunmer do in fact solely OWN and operate their businesses (the list numbered eight if i'm not mistaken) where as there are only two instances of Argonians holding positions of anything other than indentured servitude, or menial labor. those being the aforementioned Modesi, Talen-Jei, and Keerava. on your stance claiming that the reason they don't let Argonians into windhelm for the sole reason of preventing conflict, i ask for proof, as i have sunken hundreds upon hundreds of hours into the game and have never once heard any sort of dialogue that points to this or even mentions it. fact of the matter is the Argonian workers in windhelm have no property to own and the Dunmer do.
finally the "cherry-picking" you refer to also acknowledged that the Nords call out hateful thing towards all races that are not themselves Nords. i quoted the lines: "skyrim belongs to the Nords!" and the vastly over-used "damn elves!". i don't see how that was cherry-picking, my point there was to show that the nords still call the elves "elves" while they don't seem to care enough about the Argonians to label them anything other than animals, and threaten to mutilate their corpses to make clothing. they do this with the Khajit as well calling them "cats". all in all, i believe that Argonians are treated worse throught skyrim specifically and in a worse manner that the Dunmer. i hope you read this carefully and that you see my point of view, and even if you don't i hope you have as much fun as i did holding this debate with you.
i would like to see altmer next, i would be really interested in them
What would I be? Knowing my luck, I'd probably be reincarnated as a Skeever, have my den attacked by some dragon-slaying asshole, then get soul trapped, killed, and sold to Belethor for 20-something Septims.
Great video! I'm so excited to see the rest of this series! Do Imperials next! :)
but what if you go for lusty argonian maid build?
To contrast the Argonians you should do the High Elves next as a lowest of the low vs the highest of the high type thing.
XChaos considering the race's favorite edible, wouldn't you say that the khajiit are, in fact, the highest of the high?
I would love to be a Breton knight in High Rock, Saving people and slaying monsters would be my ideal life.
I love bretons, mostly breton battlemages or spellswords, they are also great thinkers and artists.
Breton myself. In a fantasy world, I'd want to pursue magic, and the rustic hills and deep forests of High Rock really appeal to me. Being a High Elf would also be tempting, but Definitely not in the Fourth Era.
A build AND a lore video, what a BARGAIN!
Ben Skyrim!!! They’re running out of ideas
Honestly I’m thinking to try out argonian simply so I can explore the lakes & water
UA-cam: How many Elder Scrolls videos are you going to make?
FudeMuppet: yes
To be fair, in lore every race has it's strong and weak moments. Risings and downfalls in history and saga.
Which is great, because it really gives that traveller of fortune kind of vibe, where your own decisions will shape your destiny.
Personally, I do like to go with Argonians and Khajit, because they don't feel like another Human/Elf variant.
Don't get me wrong, I also like my Dunmer and Orsimer, but they just aren't all that exotic.
As someone who ONLY EVER plays an Argonian this question is easy for me. Also, I'm less than a minute into the video.
Do you get treated worse than a dunmer? I only played dunmer
You’re property and trash
supernova582 it’s very interesting many people don’t like you.
*Pros:*
-Live in marshplace
-Tadpole swim
-They lizards
-Tree S U C C
-Waterbreathing
-Magic tree mind connection
-Ability to cosplay as the best maid
-Raspy voice (yes it's good)
-Cool feet (sometimes)
-Live for the moment, dude
*Cons:*
Haha no lizard bois for life.
Cons:
Covered in scales, so sense of touch and other sensations are dulled. No feeling fluffy doggos or kitty bois. Hugs and other intimate acts will not be as intimate and dangerous to both parties (kissing with that schnawz would be bloody at best.)
Clawed fingers affect how you interact with people and objects designed for fleshy hands/ paws.
(Plus side, you're waterproof against rain, but if it freezes under your scales you are in trouble.)
I could go on, but I gotta get back to work :)
@@Undomaranel Yeah, well...
Ehh...
But they lizard bois?
Honestly I just like lizards which is why I play them a lot unless I’m gonna be a werewolf or vampire because reasons
You missed out on reincarnations. Which yes, we know that it happens. Despite what UESP has deleted recently for no real reason.
As a nonbinary person who's lived most of their life basically in a swamp and mains an argonian in every elder scrolls title they've played, i already made my decision a long time ago
#FudgeMuppet, what is YOUR favorite build? :)
lets argue yes they should do a top 5 builds video after they finish talking about the races. Or maybe favorite build for each race?
Favorite build for each race, definitely!
True there would be restrictions exploring but you could also explore a lot of places under water, which would probably have more stuff to find in real life.
