Agreed. No disrespect to the original drummer Pick Withers but when Terry Williams joined the band DS acquired a much harder sound & all the better for it.
Man I love seeing all the young people on UA-cam discovering and adoring Dire Straits and other great seventies and eighties bands for the first time. Does my old heart proud.
Its possibly the best live performance on You Tube and I'm really pleased you are sharing it with friends and showing their reactions. As you say, you can watch it over and over! I have seen it so many times, I was there when it was filmed and it is full of so many memories. The whole place was rocking, I was on the balcony (just out of shot a few rows back and you could feel it bouncing! For me, at the time and re-watching it, Terry Williams on the drums smashed it out of the park. I think we knew how good he others were. That's the best drumming I've ever seen at a concert I've been to So glad you all enjoyed it
You were there? Wish I were there too. I sometimes cry listening to this. I wonder how was it there then, listening live. It must be a life time worth experience.
@@borabingol6797 It was memorable for sure, music brings out the best emotions, hear talent brings out the tears I was 18, second gig I went to, the first was the Rolling Stones, So I thought this was normal! We are lucky that it was recorded so well at the time and we can enjoy it again and again.
Love Dire Straits. They are a great British rock band from the 70's-90's. Mark Knopfler is one of the best guitarists around. They have had so many hits including "Brothers In Arms", "Romeo & Juliet", "Private Investigations", "Twisting By The Pool", "Money For Nothing", "Walk Of Life", "Telegraph Road", "So Far Away" etc. They don't have a bad song.
???????????????????????? I like you GUys and I was just about to PRAISE you Guys for a good Reaction and then you stopped the video seconds before The Grand Finale, which is insane. I, LITERALLY, don't understand a you saw they will still playing and about to end and there was a little time left on the video and you ABRUPTLY ended it. In 14 years of being with UA-cam that is the craziest ending and you guys were really enjoying it. Madness !
In the mid-1970s in London, Mark Knopfler (lead guitar, vocals, writer) was out with some friends. They ducked into a dingy little pub to get out of the rain. They found themselves in a nearly deserted room, with just a handful of patrons propping up the bar, but in one corner was a live band playing Dixieland jazz. Despite the small, disinterested audience (who 'don't give a damn about any trumpet-playing band'), they were putting their heart and soul into the music, playing like they were in a packed house of screaming fans. At the end of their set, the band's leader stepped up and announced grandly "Thank you everyone, we are the Sultans of Swing!" The grandiose name compared to the modest surroundings struck a cord with Knopfler, and this song was the result. It's a love letter to small-time musicians, the ones who play for love of the music, don't chase trends, and don't apologise for who they are.
Sometimes, several people hear a song, without actually listening to it. But I like to know the context, the story that inspired a song. A song can sometimes take on a whole new meaning, when we know what inspired it, what its author was experiencing when he or she wrote it. For example, the dramatic context behind the song "Zombie" by (The Cranberries).
Never heard this band until today. I’m 36. What a groove this song has. I loved it. The drummer is an absolute beast!!!! He’s not sloppy sounding. You can hear each drum hit with clarity. Reminds me of TOOL’s drummer Danny Carey.
@@marianelarsen2594 that’s correct. I had never even heard of them, or knew that song. I’ve been checking out other songs of theirs as well. Talent and musicianship is top notch.

Love your enthusiasm and review. They are phenomenal!! Every one of them is incredibly talented. Combine all that talent and it's perfection. One minor thing, you didn't quite finish the video.
Dire Straits is one of my favorite bands. Here's another live performance at the same concert "Dire Straits -Telegraph Road Live - aLCHEMY Tour 1983)" and I'd like to introduce you to another great band "Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication (Official Music Video)" Red Hot Chili Peppers are an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1983 comprising vocalist Anthony Kiedis, bassist "Flea", drummer Chad Smith, and guitarist John Frusciante. Their music incorporates elements of alternative rock, funk, punk rock, hard rock, hip hop, and psychedelic rock, and their music videos are very creative, masterfully done. Lovely reaction, thanks for sharing👍
What happened to the ending? I've seen twenty reactions to this song and NO ONE cut off the very end. If you did that on purpose, do not do that again. It's not nice to disappoint someone who has watched this whole video with you only to see it get cut off before the end. If it wasn't your fault, please fix your video playback system.
This is one of those "STOP THE CAR!" songs. Driving and first time hearing it on the radio I had to stop quick to listen. The only other time that happened for me was the first time hearing Canadian performer Jann Arden singing 'Insensitive': ua-cam.com/video/-nrGWwHalCU/v-deo.html
Well you gonna have to watch it over, either with the same people, or have another guest on, because, you turned it off to Early, and missed a awesome close. Do another one, with a different guest, a lot of people are doing that. But other than that, great reaction video, keep um coming.
One of the best guitarists on the planet ever, just getting into his most iconic solo...and you stop it? To say nothing? Then, when you restart it you chat inanely over his most famous lick! THEN, at the climactic end - YOU CUT IT OFF!!! Disgraceful, you should be ashamed.

What a drummer

You didn't let it play to the end. . .NO you didn't! WHY???
You cut it off before the actual finish!
Mark doesn't use a guitar pick, he plucks and finger picks his leads with a down-tuned guitar so he gets those unusual sounding scales and runs.
He plays in e standard for nearly everything. Romeo and Juliet and some slide stuff are some of the rare exceptions
