Love how they exploded into the song at the start..❤Terry Williams on drums playing for his dad watching him in the audience for the first time... He beat those drums with everything he had. I love seeing the world appreciate what we enjoyed in the 70s 🎉❤🎉
@Alan Shepherd in my opinion the Earls court performance is second to none ...... but this Dire Straits performance is up there even though they're coked off their balls 😆
Calling the drummer "a machine" is insulting to my ears - he's anything but a machine in fact. A machine could never play like he does - the feeling, the rhytm.
So Beautifuly played. Loved them when they came out in the 70s they sure don't make them like they used to. Blessed to have been born in 61. The Best music was made in my generation ❤
My favourite guitarist playing my favourite guitar solo and yet he is almost upstaged by their new drummer Terry Williams. Fantastic performance by everyone.
The story goes that the drummer’s father was in the audience at this show, and was seeing his son for the first time playing w/Dire Straits. Drummer put on an EPIC show - to say nothing of the absolute and entirely unique GENIUS of Mark Knopfler.
When Mark was in his early teens he'd practice with a friend who had some Chet Atkins albums. After listening to these albums (over and over), Mark was so amazed by the sound Chet got out of an electric guitar picking finger-style, he altered his course of playing to try to master a similar finger-style sound in the rock genre. BTW: George Harrison, Lindsey Buckingham, Randy Bachmann, Steve Howe, Peter Frampton, and a number of other well known rock guitarists were similarly inspired to seek out the Chet Atkins finger-style electric guitar sound.
The one and only Mark Knopffler and the Great Dire Straits !! I must have listened to this a hundred times since I first heard them in the 70's when they hit the British scene like a thunderbolt of genuine musical talent !! I'm now 75 and I listen to this track and this live concert regularly . To me it's the definitive live performance. Try Telegraph road from the same Alchemy live concert - you'll love it !
The studio version of this is one of the best songs for cruising. It's nice that you enjoyed it so much. What I love about this clip is how much fun they're having. Making a living like that wouldn't suck.🤑🤑 Shout out to the production crew. The filmography of this LIVE concert is incredible.🤩🤩
Loved your reaction. Mark Knopfler. The best guitarist in the world. Im so glad I got to see them perform in Copenhagen around 1987. We were actually told by the venue to remain seated at all times during the concert. At the second song we were ALL off our seats and ON our seats dancing.... "slightly" encouraged by mr Knopfler himself. After all they couldn't throw all of us out. So we were up there dancing throughout the concert -everyone! And Sultans is the best Dire Straits song ever ♥️ Cheers Susan
Have lovely memories seeing Dire Straits number of times during their Australian tour in 1986, Mark Knopfler brilliant guitarist & an all round performer
For this performance Mark Knopfler, Lead guitar John Illsey, Bass guitar Hal Lindes, Rhythm guitar Keys. Alan Clark Drums, Terry Williams Guest on keys for these shows Tommy Mandel
TELEGRAPH ROAD, ALCHEMY from this concert, its magnificent, you won't want it to end and it's long 😇 Others have requested it too so please do. You won't regret it. First time watching your channel. Well done...
Maybe the best "Reaction" of this performance of the 30 plus I've watched!!! PERFECT!!!! You let the video play without interruptions,. Part of the fun in this should be to watch the "reaction" of the host, right? A BIG plus for having the largest screen image by far...it's great. I could see that you really didn't want the performance to end when it did. Same here, and I've seen this at least 100 times over the years (I'm 76). A very important note here...the drummer in this performance is one of the greatest ever...Terry Williams. I believe his rendition here is one of the greatest ever.
Hi there love your reactions and channel. I highly recommend Telegraph Road from Alchemy Live as well. It's even more epic with the a solo instrumental at the end being of biblical proportions. Also the lyrics are awesome. Thanks Cheers from Australia 👍👍
I “Really” like your video layout. You are so clear in the corner, but give us the best view of the video. If you like Dire Straits I’m Subing, you do it well.
Hammersmith Oden 1983 like it was yesterday 29 now 67 will always be in my top three concerts along with Bruce Hornsby same venue 1988 and Queen Wembley 1986
For me the whole group was very talented and true musicians, this was one of the best live performance's ever seen on stage, Mark Knofler only uses his fingers and doesn't use a pick,
The song is actually based on a true story, so that's worth checking out too. This performance was one of the all time classic live performances from Dire Straits. Mark Knopfler is one of our finest singer/songwriter/performers and I love the way he looks into the camera while he's playing some impossible guitar riff an smiles as if was nothing. If you like this band, please check out another one of their other tracks 'Romeo & Juliet' another classic, and of course the awesome 'Brothers In Arms' which will give you chills.
Telegraph road alchemy live ua-cam.com/video/Q1Wp2ASqyxI/v-deo.html and Brothers In Arms Mandela Live ua-cam.com/video/CDY2K_f_5-s/v-deo.html are 2 more great live songs by them
Well, you have just seen the best band ever, playing live & it was 41 years ago. Hendrix was great too, & too MK was so unique. No one sounds like him & when you hear his guitar you know it is him. Yes, you are right that MK guitar sound made the Dire Straits sound. Watch some more of this band live you will love them.
Dont know if you know but Mark Knopfler is a natural leftie but his sister told him to play right handed and the rest is history. You should react to Dire Straits song Telegraph Road Alchemy Live concert. Even better than sultans of Swing. David Knopfler and Pick Withers had left the band before this. David was replaced by Hal Lindes and drummer Pick was replaced by drummer god Terry Williams. And main piano keyboard player is Alan Clark
100% Goosebumps everytime I hear this version. Tunnel of Love from Alchemy is also very awesome; with the Waltz-Intro nearly 14 minutes of pure passion.
I can't be sure, but I think I read that Knopfler was given a banjo, as a kid..So he naturally stayed with the finger-style playing when he picked up a guitar.
First time here really like your reactions. You should try reacting to Joe Bonamassa & Beth Hart Official - "I'll Take Care of You" - Beacon Theatre Live From New York, the best blues guitarist still performing and she is just indescribable. You will not be disappointed.
This version is just bloody fantastic, the studio version is actually quite boring, its just a song that i never can descide if i like or not but THIS? its fuckin world class, it one of the best live songs i heard ever, i love it
Terry Williams was hitting those drums like they owed him money!
Love how they exploded into the song at the start..❤Terry Williams on drums playing for his dad watching him in the audience for the first time...
He beat those drums with everything he had.
I love seeing the world appreciate what we enjoyed in the 70s 🎉❤🎉
That's the best live performance by any band, ever.
Probably topped by Pink Floyd's performance of Comfortably Numb at the Pulse Concert in 1994, but a very credible number two!!😁😁😁😁
@Alan Shepherd in my opinion the Earls court performance is second to none ...... but this Dire Straits performance is up there even though they're coked off their balls 😆
Hands down. God omly I had been there. Alas.
Simply the best live video ever. Simply awesome…..
Terry Williams on the drums was world class
In my opinion, the best live song ever!!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
100% up there
Mark knopfler almost untouchable on that guitar!
The drummers from another planet!! INCREDIBLE!
Mark looks at Terry (drummer) turns back laughing as if to say ...lads he's off on one.
Good ? SENSATIONAL !!!!!!!!!!!!!! No one plays like these guys.....
This is such an amazing performance, that drummer is a machine
Totally Brian, appreciate the visit.
Calling the drummer "a machine" is insulting to my ears - he's anything but a machine in fact. A machine could never play like he does - the feeling, the rhytm.
Terry Williams...welshman on the drums 🤘🏴🤘
The man was born to play the guitar
So Beautifuly played. Loved them when they came out in the 70s they sure don't make them like they used to. Blessed to have been born in 61. The Best music was made in my generation ❤
Best drumming performance ever ie the master Terry Williams
Dire straits the best live performance I have ever seen.
Shreddingf it!!!
This live version is far better than the studio version. Not many bands can claim that!!!
Just like Money For Nothing in Wembley 85. I acutally heard that one before the studio version. I was shocked how lame that was in comparison.
Way better than the Live Aid performance...just sublime 👌🏽

They rock so HARD. I love it. So talented, Good job on the drums
AND ---- HIS MUSIC is just happy

Terry Williams (drummer) absolutely frick’n awesome. I’m sooooo emotional 💓💓💓💓💓😘💓
Have lovely memories seeing Dire Straits number of times during their Australian tour in 1986, Mark Knopfler brilliant guitarist & an all round performer
The best and most uplifting live performances I've ever seen. The part where Mark plays the sadly mournful guitar is beautiful, and genius.
Smiles all around.
Love it! Thanks for the visit.
For this performance
Mark Knopfler, Lead guitar
John Illsey, Bass guitar
Hal Lindes, Rhythm guitar
Keys. Alan Clark
Drums, Terry Williams
Guest on keys for these shows Tommy Mandel
TELEGRAPH ROAD, ALCHEMY from this concert, its magnificent, you won't want it to end and it's long 😇

The drummer on this performance was Terry Williams who replaced Pick Withers in the band in 1982.
The drums and guitar stand out for me. Both superb. Both are masters of their instruments.
Hi there love your reactions and channel. I highly recommend Telegraph Road from Alchemy Live as well. It's even more epic with the a solo instrumental at the end being of biblical proportions. Also the lyrics are awesome. Thanks Cheers from Australia 👍👍
Thanks Mark, in the middle of recording the next batch I’ll include it bud! Sweet!
Never gets old.
Try to get it right. On this tour the drummer was terry Williams from wales. And what a job he did.
Pure magic! 🤩
Does it get any better? Don't think so. Best live performance EVER 🎸🔥🎶👌
Couldn't agree more!
I “Really” like your video layout.
You are so clear in the corner, but give us the best view of the video.
If you like Dire Straits I’m Subing, you do it well.
Thanks Eric! Appreciate i do all sorts mostly oldies but i grew up on the old tunes.
It's not Pick Withers on drums in Alchemy live version, its is Terry Williams, Pick Withers hade left Dire Straits a year earlier
Hammersmith Oden 1983 like it was yesterday 29 now 67 will always be in my top three concerts along with Bruce Hornsby same venue 1988 and Queen Wembley 1986
Love this reaction! 👍🇬🇧
For me the whole group was very talented and true musicians, this was one of the best live performance's ever seen on stage, Mark Knofler only uses his fingers and doesn't use a pick,
One thing that’s impressive about this performance is that there are no overdubs on the album as confirmed by the lead guitarist.

Great reaction fella 👍 Epic performance by Dire Straits
Thanks Lewis I try mate! Thanks for the visit!
Recommend Dire Straits Tunnel Of Love wembley 85.
The Sultans of Swing. A forgotten band. Imagine if there was a poster of the band still around, and how much that would be worth. Huge baby huge.
Awesome!!
Telegraph road from the same show.
Man, this is such a good jam. 🎸🎸
Telegraph Road - Alchemy Live. :)
Change of personnel from the album to this live performance: Terry Williams on drums and Hal Lindes on rhythm.
You never did the song 'Telegraph Road' from the same concert. It would be nice to see that huge smile again.
😁
Dont know if you know but Mark Knopfler is a natural leftie but his sister told him to play right handed and the rest is history.

Live at Wembley 85, Sultans and Tunnel of Love are epic.
Best version for me !
Yep
As stated before…the best part is You let it run without stopping. I click off the “reaction videos” that constantly interrupt
You really need to watch the 'live in 85' version of this epic song !
Drummer was playing for his dad for the first time in the audience.....bassically telling him "you didn't believe in me?" Here is your proof!
Guitargasm
checkout live version of Brothers in Arms....
There are also some Sultans of Swing lives with sax, for example Wembley 85
in my opinion, this is the most passionend live version of this song.
Mark Knopfler does not use a guitar pick, just his fingers. Awesome !!
First time here really like your reactions. You should try reacting to Joe Bonamassa & Beth Hart Official - "I'll Take Care of You" - Beacon Theatre Live From New York, the best blues guitarist still performing and she is just indescribable.

Thanks Kathy, check out E134. Appreciate the recommendation
Mark so beautiful ❤️
This version is just bloody fantastic, the studio version is actually quite boring, its just a song that i never can descide if i like or not but THIS? its fuckin world class, it one of the best live songs i heard ever, i love it

Mark is actually left handed but plays right handed.
And now you have to watch Telegraph Road....
There you go E 132 thanks for the suggestion Rich.
Hay alguien que no le guste esto ??????????
Another jewish genious. For all you haters out there. Shame on you.
Thank you for pointing that out. The majority of people have no real idea the amount of things created/discovered/invented by Jewish people
