DG was my go to store during the 19 fiasco. Couldn't deal with all the craziness at the big stores. I always found what was needed. If there are any seeds left, grab em up.
This is so true! And every Saturday, you get $5 off $25 with a coupon or digital coupon as well. GREAT video! Keep up the great work, ill keep watching!
Most of my canned food and the things I have dry canned for LTS came from Dollar general. You can also find a lot of good stuff on the dollar aisle too! Keep prepping and stay safe everyone.
I use the Walmart app on my phone to compare prices while I'm shopping at any of the dollar stores. Swing-A-Way makes an awesome handheld manual can opener. I set up housekeeping in 1981 and I'm only on my second can opener. The manual is all I've ever used. Thanks for another great video, JR. I always enjoy this series.
Swing-Away is the only one I will use except for a P-38. I love the swing away and I pick them up at yard sales and flea markets anytime I see them, they last almost forever. I think the swing away people changed the design, I do not like the new ones.
@@tennesseeterri I never thought about looking for them at yard sales and flea markets. I'm in a wheelchair now so I don't get out much, but that's a great idea. I finally broke down and bought another because I hadn't been able to find mine since my divorce. I kept thinking it would turn up but... I bought it two or three years ago and think the quality is the same. They are making different styles now, though.
Thanks for the report. I have a lot of Dollar Generals near me, but don't make it a habit to go there. Not because I am opposed to it, just don't think to. Good to know they can be a resource for some if the more trusted name brand stuff like Gorilla duct tape. I do recall the last time I was there I picked up a number of those flavored drink powder sticks (to improve terrible tasting water if needed). I was impressed with the flavor selection.
These are some of the best videos IMO. It’s one thing to be told or suggested to stock up on particular items, but goes a long way to suggest where to find them. During the beginning of covid, all the big grocery stores and Walmarts ran out of these items fast but all the dollar stores had them for a little while longer because people just didn’t think to check them. I am in Texas as well and a lot of people didn’t think to check the small Hispanic grocery stores as well for these items as they lasted a little longer as well. Great video!
I was actually talking with a few guys at church today about Dollar Tree/ Dollar General . I try to spend about $40-60 a month getting stuff. If you can find the Ultra Pasteurized milk, grab it. So much better than the stuff we had in the Army 25+ years ago
The Gossner milk is the only kind I buy now. It’s good stuff. I try to keep a year’s supply on the shelf at all times. We use 4 per month, so I by 4 per month with the expiration date a year out.
Theres a hundred DG’s where i live. I had to ask a worker to order Bristol Canned Ham, because none of them had any. That store got some a couple days later. Yet the others still don’t. The many wslmarts in my area ain’t got any either. I think the distribution centers might be hoardin’ certain foods for later.
It is getting harder to find canned ham, and of course, prices are going up. You can order from DG online, then pick it up at your local store. My DG has Bristol ham for $4.15, but I got six cans at WalMart the other day for $3.57 each. Also scored seven 3lb cans of Hormel Black Label canned ham, for $9.78 each, very hard to find.
I’ve noticed the same with the Bristol hams. None to be found anywhere until this past week. Keep an eye out because they seem to be back but a dollar higher in price.
Up until a few months ago Dollar store canned items were as cheap as Walmart. We got alot of our everyday preps at the dollar store during C19 . Some of the Dollar stores being built now include fresh produce .
You can make your own Pedilite: you need 7up, Sprite or Serra Mist clear liquid soda pop. 8oz of 7up 8oz of room temperature filtered water 1/4 teaspoon of salt Mix together and shake or stir to get the carbonation out of it. Your homemade Pedilite is finished. An old country doctor told me how to make this 25yrs ago. I have been using this recipe ever since. You can flavor it with your favorite squirt flavorings.
There are Dollar Generals around here, but I never remember to go - we DO go to Dollar TREE a lot: they have the Gossner's boxed milk, which has a nice shelf life, is as good as Parmalat, but at $1.25, that's $1.50 cheaper than Wally World. I'll have to make a trek to DG, though!
I know this isnt really prepper related but at a dollar tree across from where I work it has these small frozen burgers (like an entire burger in a small box that you can microwave I think) and I thought they were interesting cause ive never seen anything like that in a target or any other grocery store
Beans and rice are not usually where the canned food and pasta are. They are usually at a separate spot with meal preps for tacos and burritos…like jarred and canned nacho sauce, rice, beans, tortillas, taco sauce, etc..
I started years ago buying their large 4 pound boxes of Clover Valley baking soda when they were still $2 each. I used it mainly for the cat litter box, but that price is the best value for the buck. It's gone up a little but I'm still buying them 4 at a time to get stocked up to use for many other uses. Most folks don't know that DG, Family Dollar and Dollar Tree (5 quarter tree) get the overstock of the big box stores and sells for a little less. I have no problem shopping for less money in smaller stores, even tho we're seeing prices skyrocket. Just thought I'd pass along the info. Thanks for sharing!
OXO can openers are good, too. The handles could be improved,( they tend to slip out, a little Gorilla glue helps) but the mechanism itself can handle pretty heavy duty use.
I haven't found a Dollar General here in PNW Washington we have tons of Dollar Stores n Grocery Outlets . When I head East next year to move can't wait to move Thanks for the great information God bless 🙏 😊 🇺🇸
some items are cheaper at Dollar Tree ! Dollar general price of water was $1. now over $1.50. when the grocery stores stillhave gallon water ,89. I bought . I find them expensive on a lot of otems now.
Also stores like Marshall’s, Home Goods for discount specialty items like spices, oils, pastas & jams and household/hardware items. Also the indian/asian/hispanic stores for rice, beans, spices & things to avoid food fatigue. Their prices are good, they often have stock longer than others when it starts to run out & no one’s freaked out if you bulk up.
We have two DG'S where i live. Decently affordable. Ours carries beans and rice, so yours might have just been out at that time is all. They have a nice smaller selction of most common everyday products. I love foing there and they have their app that you can usually get some pretty good deals on and get coupons. I know on certain saturdays, they have a $5 off $25 coupon on their app also. Good small selection and not alot if ppl go to them.
Dollar general also has Dollar shelves, wipes , shampoos, pads diapers, soap, my advice would be is to stock up on these to .oh cleaning supplies for a Dollar, and more

So does one of the local Walmarts.
True! Last week I spent 70$ on items that going by the signs would have been 48$. Rrrrrrr.
A lot of places having this issue. Costco as well. They have to honor the shelf price.
