This is an example of when they took elements of rdr1 into rdr2, effectively taking elements of rdr2 into rdr1, as well.

Never will understand Dutch standing on the Gun Arthur nearly had his hands on to kill Micah that broke me more about Dutch 20 years with this man Arthur wasted Micah 6 months who would you believe in in the end if you were dutch i would have believed my son, brother Arthur Dutch is mentally deranged at the end and a sick man. Micah well he was always evil from day one if you look closely.
John took the "go, don't look back" from arthur very seriously, in fact he even says the same words in the end, he's literaly honoring his friend by not mentioning him which is what arthur would always want to, to see john have a normal life and delete that past life, even if that meant forgetting his best friend.
I think the perfect reason why John barely talks about Arthur in the Epilogue beyond the missions and further into the story of RD1 is largely because of how he handles his grief of what happened to the man that practically became his brother in everything but blood. Sometimes a man's name doesn't need to be evoked to know that his actions still influence those who are still around, and John clearly learned a lot more from Arthur then he lets on, especially when comparing the him to RD2 and RD1, it may not seem that drastic, but Arthur definitely helped influence the maturity and honor that John would embody.
I Was Lucky Enough To Play RDR 1 Before RDR 2 I Remember Seeing The First Teaser And Rdr2 Made Me Appreciate That I Was Lucky Enough To Play A Old Console Exclusive Rockstar Game
Indo, bro. In that same mission John Marston mentions that the gang spoke about going there years ago. If you look at Arthur's journal (first pages) you can read about this.
This is the most reallistic thing in the game when someone once had important role to your life, you'll remember them but sooner or later you'll forget them and it will be a past
One of the reasons I kind of hope they don't do a remake and ad moments of them talking about Arthur is because I think it make sense they don't talk about Arthur because for John it would hurt too much to to talk about him and he would rather forget about puff probably everything about his past so we can move on with the future and the characters of Bill and Javier and Dutch they would of blamed Arthur of for the reason the gang broke up so they would hate to bring him up into conversation
Yea but theres more than just Arthur. Ross could (and probably would) bring up Milton ALOT, same with Dutch and Micah or Hosea, and obviously he would bring up Arthur alot to try and get into John's head. Plus a remake would allow them to tie up some loose ends over characters whose fates were left unknown like Sadie or Charles. Maybe a letter from one of them or a newspaper article on how one of them either struck gold (metaphorically) or died. Above all, the gameplay would benefit ENORMOUSLY from a remake, cus aside from the fact RDR1 is inherently a buggy mess (tho that does make it more fun 90% of the time), once youve played it a few times, especially after playing 2, it really does become apparent how stale the game is as you realise it lacks so much content *compared to what it could be*.
The scene with Dutch, Micah, and Arthur is very powerful. You can see when Arthur says “I gave you everything I had” Dutch knows he had lost his way. Dutch turned into a bad person but watching Arthur die you can tell messed with him.
Yeah Hosea’s and Arthur’s death fully made him go crazy. Hosea was his longtime friend and Arthur was basically his adopted son. He watched them both die in front of him and he realized how he could’ve saved the gang if he listened to both of them.
He stayed behind to save those he loved, and to hold off the villains for as long as he could to allow those loved ones to escape...just like Arthur before him. #RestInPeaceArthurMorganAnAbsoluteLegendOfTheEastAndTheWestLostButNotForgotten 😭😭😭
Id say Arthur is a true iconic legend and anti hero for several reasons but its his final stand at the end of the game where he receives true righteousness respect honor and redemption and Glory for giving his life for another person and for giving john time to get away and with every ounce of his last breath taking as many enemies with him before he goes
And John is worthy of that exact same praise considering he does the same thing for Abigail and Jack. The difference is that Arthur had nothing to lose because he was already dying. John had everything to live for but still chose to sacrifice himself for his family. In my opinion this makes John’s redemption even greater.
@@one1848 true but i say both received redemption in the end because they both showed strength and compassion for what they love and believe in plus john saw arthur as a brother and family and a best friend plus john and his family wouldn't have survived if arthur didn't do what he did plus they both gave a final stand and fought to the death for there loved ones to get away John for abi to get away and Arthur for John plus with there final breath took as many enemies with them before they wet
@ryanthereaper5032 Even if John made it out they would keep sending more and more men until he was dead. There's a line in RDR1 from Dutch about how they have to justify their wages John sacrificed himself because he knew Ross wouldn't stop, and even if Ross got replaced they'd probably come after him too
John desperately trying to get Arthur to go with him is what really got me, it shows the friendship between the two and John really didn't want Arthur to die, and Arthur really cared for John and his family
The pain and chills that run to my body thinking I’ll never get in touch with a game character they say the brain doesn’t know the difference of feeling when it comes to fictional death and real death and I think this was a perfect example this hit so hard

100%, tbh I didn't really enjoy RDR1 and thought it was a little boring, I didn't play RDR2 until recently because I didn't think I'd like it, but damn I was so wrong. It's much better than RDR1 and I had never played a game that's as emotionally engaging.
My grandma lost her son (my uncle, obviously) almost 30 years ago. Even though my mom (her daughter) does, not even once in my 34 years I saw my grandma mentioning him. Mom says that has been like this since his death.
Arthur was never the type to look at the past. He left things that he didn’t want touched the way they were too. I think John’s the same way they both were raised by the same man, so ofc he isn’t gonna think about Arthur without thinking about Dutch and Hosea, but people never really think about how things start or try to forget how they started, but they’ll never forget how bad something ended.
@@IndoJordy the story was made in 2012 a few years after RDR 1, alot of people would argue that some continuity don't make sense like how there's a lot of character that aren't referenced in RDR 1 like Hosea, Lenny and other gang members. I considered RDR 2 as a soft reboot and it made sense how they wanted to remake the game.
@@IndoJordy No. It's a dialogue, Arthur wasn't in the game, Rockstar is just using lines, and connecting the dots in the timeline. So it's a afterthought
I know that there are no references to 2 in 1 for obvious reasons but I like to think they wrote scenes like the second one here with rdr1 quotes in mind.
I kinda see this as something from the gang’s fate rather than Arthur himself. The gang was doing okay but forces outside always got in their way no matter how much they tried to stay
John loved Aurther. But he also resented him. Not for what Arthur did to John. But for what he did for John. This is truly what it feels like to have a brother. Someone that you love so deep to the bone that you would die for without question. That you resent for all the things he did right and you did wrong. And the person you cant bring your self to talk about because you cant apologize because now hes gone.
I honestly hope the next Red Dead Redemption is either a new story or an honest sequel. Give us a whole new, unknown story. Don't give us a prequel where we have to be sad because we know what's gonna end up happening to certain characters.
A sequel won't happen because jack hung up his hat after getting rid of Ross and became a writer. I think they need to make a new "red dead" game but with a new gang and characters so that Rockstar can be a little more creative without the shackles of forcing the story to line up to the previous one.
I think that line comes from John always having been on the run. Whenever something bad happened he and the gang would get as far away as they could. That was his life for many years. Him living on the farm so long is what is the challenge, knowing that if there's trouble and he runs or loses he will lose everything.
John never literally talks about Arthur in part 1 for obvious reasons. But you can just tell that something profound must have happened to him to convert him from a life of crime to becoming a family man. Well, that "something" was Arthur. His existence is implied by John's life in part 1.
We will not deny the fact that Arthur Morgan wasn't written yet at the time and we shall never deny the fact that we're glad that he was added in the story. One of the best if not the best character in all of gaming so far.
I know John said he doesn’t bring up Arthur (even though he talks about him to the strangers) but there’s no way Dutch or bill wouldn’t bring him up. Or hell, Ross may bring him or Micah up. This is why RDR1 should get a remake tbh

Honestly for me i think john doesn't want to mention arthur because he doesn't want to remember losing him. so he surpresses his memories that he had with arthur by not mentioning him and only leaving implications of the old memories he had occasionally.
Maybe because it does not exist and it's a lie to make other people believe stuff that never happened in the first place, unless you have some sort of source or proof to prove otherwise?
In RDR2 you can find a dead guy by a boat with a lost love letter addressed to Bonnie McFarlane, There are so many little references to characters from the original game in the 2nd game too, There is mention of Landon Ricketts the gunslinger you meet in Mexico in the first game, The dude who falls off the cliff and dies with his flying machine is mentioned as well as you can find one of his wrecked machines and of course the strange man can be found in a picture frame in a shop in armadillo playing as John.
After my dad passed away I never talked about him to anyone, but I still remember him, I still love him and sometimes I feel the need to Cry but I don’t, just because my dad wouldn’t want that… And that’s the same thing that happens to John, if he was a real person it would be the same thing, and I’m pretty sure about that. He just lives by his code and no one, not even Abigail, Jack and Uncle need to know that, only him and his brother Arthur. Thats why he never mentioned Arthur in RDR1 and mentioned a few times in the Epilogue in RDR2
To be fair, Arthur at this point has been deceased for 12 years. I can't think of anyone (with the exception of my family members) in my past that I would reference in my current life having not seen them for over a decade. A nod to Arthur would have been nice but it also makes it more tragic that there is nothing to remember him by (except for a sign in Saint Denis 😥)
Normally retcons like this usually hurts the story, but because the character of Arthur and his story in RDR2 are so well written, it actually adds to the history. Although, it would benefit a remake to have actual references, even if Arthur isn’t mentioned by name.
@@IndoJordy Here John is just talking with Bonnie about how the grass isn't always greener on the other side, and how it might take and be telling of more strength to stay where she is and plant her roots. Us, the players eight whole years later, being able to coincidentally connect bits of dialogue to events in the prequel doesn't mean the two necessarily have any relation. I am certain that the idea of Arthur Morgan didn't even exist back in 2010, otherwise he would've been a character referenced by Dutch who never stops talking about the gang's old days. This scene was written to be one thing and one thing only, John and Bonnie chatting about _her_ circumstances. Considering on that fateful night Arthur was _running away_ from Dutch and the Pinkertons after confronting Dutch went nowhere, its more a testament to how gracefully Red Dead 2's postgame bridged the gap between itself and Red Dead 1 that we can loosely associate these scenes between games. There's dialogue in Red Dead 2's postgame where Abigail notes that John doesn't like talking about Arthur, to which he responds "The past is gone. We've left that behind."
This right here is proof Bonnie is 14/15 in RDO/RDR2. So many people think she's like the same age as John when she's only like 9 years older than Jack.
When he said "brother" I took my hat off, especially how John made sure author heard what he said clearly.... And just to see how author actually was towards him... I love how everyone is contemplating why his name is never spoken of… bruh it’s because they didn’t have a storyline set up for rdr2 when they made the first game lol. Arthur wasn’t a thought in a developers head until after rdr1
When john says "Youre my brother" its almost like hes apologizing for not seeing it/being a better brother to arthur. Like hes sorry for leaving him behind for that year. And he hates having to leave him now. Arthurs "i know" is him essentially saying john had nothing to apologize for. He always knew johns heart.
@@IndoJordyNO IT DOESN’T DUDE. Use your brain. Just because one thing is the same, does not mean all of it is. The game director Dan Houser has confirmed that Arthur was not even created when they made RDR1.

John says during a hidden dialogue exchange that the only times the gang ever needed him was when he had prostitutes hinting that he wasn’t in the gang at all and that he was originally a pimp who brought Abigail to the gang. John says he’s never been to NA in rdr1 which isn’t true since in rdr2 you do a mission there, a stranger mission and John is forced to go there in order to collect dinosaur bones and legendary animals for 100% completion. There are WAYYYY to many buildings, railroad tracks and bridges missing in the rdr1 map in rdr2 for it to be considered realistic that the epilogue takes place 4 years before, Blackwater has different buildings and shapes in rdr2 than how they appear in rdr1 as well as houses being made of bricks instead of wood like in rdr1. John in rdr1 is constantly talking about the “man he used to be” when threatening people but in rdr2 he’s just an angry cowboy who gets captured a lot. In rdr1 John talks down on people who cheat or abandon their spouses and family yet in rdr2 he does the same making him a hypocrite. Not only does John in rdr1 not mention Arthur or Hosea or any of the other people in rdr2… but literally NOBODY in the gang mentions them either making them retcons as well. John morphing into Arthur in the epilogue by having his same exact body type, hair and now having left parted black hair instead of dark brown right parted hair like in the main rdr2 chapters and rdr1 is another issue as well as his clothes looking ugly af only for them to change shape and size. There’s way more but these are what I can think of rn

They didn’t talk about him because he wasn’t in the story yet

Arthur is also in a newspaper in rdr1 that talks about smoking and how it cures tuberculosis. It's the only time he is talked about
This is the most reallistic thing in the game when someone once had important role to your life, you'll remember them but sooner or later you'll forget them and it will be a past
True that
Isn't that true for everything in life
"Forget them" isn't really accurate unless they didn't have that much impact to begin with. More like you just don't have a reason to bring them up.
Forget the important ones or those who had a big impact?. i hardly think so. "People dont forget" John marston. He also said "nothing gets forgiven"
I don't think he's forgotten so much as surpressed. Painful memories
One of the reasons I kind of hope they don't do a remake and ad moments of them talking about Arthur is because I think it make sense they don't talk about Arthur because for John it would hurt too much to to talk about him and he would rather forget about puff probably everything about his past so we can move on with the future and the characters of Bill and Javier and Dutch they would of blamed Arthur of for the reason the gang broke up so they would hate to bring him up into conversation
they obviously would bring him up though, dutch most definitely would.
Hey buddy, quick question: how would you have felt if you did not eat breakfast this morning?
😯
It Was Micah Who Destroyed The Gang ONLY A RAT
The scene with Dutch, Micah, and Arthur is very powerful. You can see when Arthur says “I gave you everything I had” Dutch knows he had lost his way.
Dutch turned into a bad person but watching Arthur die you can tell messed with him.
yea you can see it click in his mind, that arthur was right the whole time, but he didn’t realize it till it was too late.
Yeah Hosea’s and Arthur’s death fully made him go crazy. Hosea was his longtime friend and Arthur was basically his adopted son. He watched them both die in front of him and he realized how he could’ve saved the gang if he listened to both of them.
This also could be a parallel to when John decided to stay near the end of the game to let his family be able to get out safe.
He stayed behind to save those he loved, and to hold off the villains for as long as he could to allow those loved ones to escape...just like Arthur before him.

And John is worthy of that exact same praise considering he does the same thing for Abigail and Jack. The difference is that Arthur had nothing to lose because he was already dying. John had everything to live for but still chose to sacrifice himself for his family. In my opinion this makes John’s redemption even greater.

John sacrificed himself because he knew Ross wouldn't stop, and even if Ross got replaced they'd probably come after him too
John desperately trying to get Arthur to go with him is what really got me, it shows the friendship between the two and John really didn't want Arthur to die, and Arthur really cared for John and his family

I think he is talking about himself staying with Abigail after doubting Jack's parentage. He ran for a year...
I honestly hope the next Red Dead Redemption is either a new story or an honest sequel. Give us a whole new, unknown story. Don't give us a prequel where we have to be sad because we know what's gonna end up happening to certain characters.
A story about Dutch and Colms backstory.
I would like to have another prequel
A sequel won't happen because jack hung up his hat after getting rid of Ross and became a writer.
I think they need to make a new "red dead" game but with a new gang and characters so that Rockstar can be a little more creative without the shackles of forcing the story to line up to the previous one.
The story is over we don’t need another sequel.
a sequel wouldnt make sense tbh, what would be cool would be a prequel about how the gang united, and most likely ending with the blackwater massacre
I think that line comes from John always having been on the run. Whenever something bad happened he and the gang would get as far away as they could. That was his life for many years. Him living on the farm so long is what is the challenge, knowing that if there's trouble and he runs or loses he will lose everything.
