If you don't know in P3FES there's a bug where if you start Tanaka's social link at the very last day before the final boss, it will skip straight to the true ending. Tanaka essentially pay the final boss to piss off

Having the right persona for a social link essentially boosts the progress you get every time you hang out. So you should have the right persona before ever hanging out with a social link. Having a persona won’t immediately help you progress if you don’t have enough progress already. It’ll only give you a bonus towards progressing when you hang out with them. Hope this helps.
Fun fact: In Japanese Bebe speaks very differently. Instead of using a mix of English and broken Japanese like he does in the English translation, Bebe speaks like someone who learned how to speak Japanese from samurai dramas/anime. He uses terms like "Sessha wa" and "de gozaruyo". But that's impossible to translate so it's understandable why they went with what they did. In both he comes across as a weeb but for totally different reasons which is great.
People use that term a bit too much when in reality, for Bebe's case, the more accurate term is "Japanophile".
It's used for westerners who love/are fans of Japanese culture specifically, unlike Weeb/Weaboo which is used for fans of anime/manga culture (and believe speaking like they do in said media puts them on par with Japanese people).
But yeah, even with Japanese VO, Bebe's Japanese is clunky af XD
Just to clarify, the social link you unlocked WAS Bebe. The reason you couldn't start his social link before was because even if you were smart enough to read the sign you had no reason to enter without first meeting Bebe. Also, if you're still curious as to who the hell Suemitsu is you're going to have to hang out with Kenji. It's inevitable

@@icetweiz nah, Nozomi is genuinely fun and goofy and has both a funny and tragic situation going on, and as much as he is a bit of a weirdo he's also genuinely nice to an extent.

Like obviously the cult shit he has going on is bad, but it's because he's so messed up because of his inferiority complex and past trauma that he's kinda coping through food and buying into some religious/cult mumbo jumbo scam.
I won't defend Kenji though, dude is literally just "I want to get with my teacher" the social link for 90% of it and him being voice acted doesn't really help at all. I feel equally happy and sorry for Joe Zieja for getting the role 🤷

I just have to commend the game for doing everything it could to hype up Akihiko as a bona fide badass that you actually *WANT* to have in your party. Not every game sticks the landing, so I'm really glad they ultimately did it as well as they did for him.
He's honestly bathshit insane too for being an all in attack cause a lot of enemies are weak to elec in 3. The other zio user is more all rounder so Aki's damage can be irreplaceable for some until you get Thor to fill the niche later
Actually, fun fact about the female MC from P3P, some of the male party members actually have different Arcanas on their Social Links. Akihiko is The Star (because the student council SL is still there) and the party member that's The Hierophant is The Moon ('cause the old couple SL is still there).
You have it right about Social Link points. If the game tells you you're not ready to hang out with someone, the only way you can change that is by doing another activity that gives points to that Social Link, like how in 5 you could pay the Fortune Teller to give a Confidant of your choice a boost? Otherwise you have to spend a day with them to get them ready for the next rank. Which can end up wasting a lot of days.

It reminds me of when I was playing persona 5 the first time, and for a good like two or three palaces, every single time I would do an all out attack it ended up syncing perfectly with the music.

I think due to this game's main theme being death, that could he why a lot the social links do figure a lot of sad themes/loss of loved ones.
Other than Kenji. He only exists to give us the power of his ultimate persona.

Spirit Drain is a very old skill to the Persona series. Mitsuru even learns it naturally in the original Persona 3, I think she's the only party member in any of the Persona games that learn the skill.

I think it’s funny how in FES and in this game, everyone says that Akihiko’s bruised his ribs in April. And when you get to May, it’s suddenly his arm that got hurt. Guess THAT was not fixed either but still hilarious!
Nico jokes about it. But if you check on junpei in his room, the day test results are posted, you do get some dialogue on how well he takes it
Bebe is the social link the old couple unlocks.
I don't know about this version of the game, but I remember reading the sign prior to adequately progressing the old couple in FeS and it just said something along the lines of "You were too late, I'm not here anymore". I had to look up a guide to reassure myself that I didn't miss anything.
Bebe leaves because no one else joined his club and he got sad.

@@PJSam1998 Thing is, I’m pretty sure I didn’t even have Akihiko yet when this happened.
I was still able to start Bebe’s link after leveling up the old couple enough.
Seems like a dev oversight where they didn’t account for the possibility of having rank 2 academics prior to meeting Bebe via the old couple, and so the game still uses the message for missing out on Bebe entirely, even if it’s still possible to unlock him.
Presumably it’s different in this version, but I didn’t test it out.

I found a rather funny change in Reload as I was playing. In the original when you look at yourself in the bedroom mirror the protag says different things depending on your condition (good, great, tired). But now, because the fatigue system is gone, they've changed it so that the protag says different things depending on his Charm stat. When you look at yourself in the mirror with max Charm the protag remarks "I see an attractive reflection capable of capturing people's hearts." Never knew he had such vanity.

Arcana Burst upgrade the potential of getting better Minor arcana (cups, swords, coin, wands) it also gives you a choice from those new minor arcana cards to pick from. So you could have picked the MA card, received an Arcana Burst then picked up a free 4 of wands card (Exp). the more you know i guess x

I realize this now, but I started watching Nico back on his P5 playthrough. That was six years ago, I was 15 then, and now I'm 21. Feels like barely any time has passed, but thank you for your videos, Nico. Keep up the good work and keep being yourself

Just a note, Mitsuru wasn't kidding about the whole status ailments thing. They reworked some things so that most Tartarus and other bosses are vulnerable to some kind of status ailment now. Oh also, there's a buff for spirit drain that can up that shit to 40 sp drained. YES, you should try to find it. :)
I got the drain boost card first, took me a little while to get Spirit Drain to appear, it's such an amazing combo.
@DRAG0NSPIRIT10 Don't tell nico this, but since the "you know what" free ability comes in later that always gives your party sp restore, SP conservation is a complete joke in this game. Especially when combined with the sp drain combo.

Fun fact about Polydeuces:
In Fate, their name is Pollux and appears as a duo servant with her older twin brother Castor. They both have separate classes, Pollux is a Saber(ironic as she's a boxer) while Castor is an Avenger(A Class for those who seeks revenge and Edmond Dantes is a member of it).
-Yes Pollux is a case of genderswapping while Castor remains a man.
And how would those two classes work as one servant, you may ask? Simple, the class skills for Saber and Avenger are both used, while the servant class that is used is Saber.
Also, it should be made clear that the twins gemini only appear in the mobile game Fate/Grand Order. So, while they don't spoil the stories of other Fate Installments, looking up their inclusion in FGO may spoil you about the game's Part 2 story.

Also, I do suggest doing a Reaction Abridge of the 2006 Fats/Stay Night anime as your next step into the Fate Series in the future. I suggest this because it adapts one of the three routes of the original visual novel.

A few clarifications:
The max Social Stat in this game is 6, but you are correct that it is 5 in P4 and P5.
The Social Link we were referring to with the old couple was Bebe. In order to start his Social Link, you need to meet him with the old couple and have Rank 2 Academics to read the sign on the Home Ec room.
Spirit Drain was in the other games, though they might have been less efficient in the other games.
Having a Persona that matches a Social Link will increase the points you get during that event, not add points at the start.

45:16 You should've chosen the Major Arcana card, because you would've gotten the Arcana Burst that would've allowed you to get the EXP card anyway.
To clarify, when you have a persona of the same arcana for a social link, the correct responses within that social link will give more points because of your equipped persona. You basically want to have an associated persona for every time you can rank up with a social link. They do play a heavy influence in how much progress you can get done. For example, I was able to finish Maya's social link without having to spend extra time with her, because I always made sure to have an associated persona. Persona's are also a lot cheaper than they were in OG Persona 3, so don't worry too much about spending money on them.

You got pretty lucky with the Spirit Drain card, as the first persona that naturally learns it only learns it at level 22.

I managed to get through all of this section of Tartarus before Akihiko joined back in, in one go and on Hard mode. Except the final boss for that section, I reached it and called it there as the trio was running on fumes. What's funny is when you clear those areas the team will remark after beating bosses that maybe they don't even need Akihiko. Even Mitsuru will say as a joke "There may not be a need for Akihiko or me to join your battles... Though Akihiko wouldn't be very happy about that."
Well, since Akihiko seems to be the focus of today's episode, let's talk about his Persona, Polydeuces or Pollux and in general the story of the Dioscuri.
The Dioscuri are a famous set of twins from Greek Mythology. The most popular account of their origin states that they shared the same mother, Leda but had different fathers. Castor was the son of the mortal king Tyndareus while Polydeuces was fathered by Zeus, king of the gods who seduced Leda under guise of a swan. It is said that they were hatched out of an egg alongside their twin sisters: Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra. Polydeuces was immortal as he was fathered by Zeus but Castor was mortal. It should be noted however that this story of their birth, as well as their status as immortals or mortals was highly debated by ancient sources, even among the same authors. Notably, both are mentioned in both the Illiad and the Odyssey but the Illiad claims that they are both mortal and already dead as Helen looks down from the walls of Troy wondering why her brothers are not among the Achaeans. However, in the Odyssey they are both treated as alive. The most popular account of their birth described above comes from Hesiod though it was likely also referenced in the lost epic poem titled Cypria. Some people speculate that they were both originally immortal with Tyndareus being introduced to explain one of the twin's epithets: Tyndaridai. This is supported by the fact that the twins follow a common proto-indo European motif of "the Divine Twins" which is shared with the Vedic brother horsemen the Ashvins, the Lithuanian Asvieniai and the Germanic Alcis. However this is disputed by the fact that Homeric sources, some of the earliest sources, paint them both as mortal. Regardless of their origin, the twins were well noted for their fierce loyalty to each other. They collectively appear under many names such as the Dioscuri, the Gemini and the Tyndaridai. They were famously members of the Argonauts wherein Polydeuces defeated King Amycus in a boxing match by punching him the elbow of all things. They also appear in the myth of Thesus where after Thesus abducted the young Helen of Troy, their sister, they went and rescued him, kidnapping Thesus's mother as revenge and forcing her to be Helen's slave. Their most notable myth however, involves their deaths and (kinda sorta) resurrections. It is said that the Dioscuri had a fierce rivalry with their cousins, the brothers Lynceus and Idas which started with Castor and Pollux kidnapped their wives and bore children with them. Eventually the pairs of cousins participated in a cattle raid on Arcadia together but the cousins ended up having a fall out after Idas tricked Castor and Pollux out of all of their meat. Castor and Pollux swore revenge against them. Some time later, when Lynceus and Idas visited their uncle Tyndareus, Castor and Pollux seized an opportunity to take revenge. They left their sister Helen to entertain Lynceus and Idas (an action that would incidentally cause the Trojan War as the Trojan prince Paris was also in attendance and with Castor and Pollux no longer protecting them, Paris was able to easily kidnap Helen) while they left to steal Lynceus and Idas's cattle. Lynceus and Idas soon left but Lynceus, with his amazing night vision spotted Castor and Pollux stealing their cattle and in anger attacked Castor who was on a tree as lookout and fatally wounded him. Pollux in anger killed Lynceus. Idas was about to attack Pollux but Zeus, in anger of his son being attacked launched a thunderbolt at Idas killing him. As Castor was dying, Zeus gave Pollux the option of sharing half his immortality with Castor, an option Pollux took. To honor them, Zeus put them into the sky as the constellation Gemini, spending half their time in the underworld and half in the sky as represented by the constellation's seasonal appearance. It is said that after they ascended into the sky, they became the patron of sailors with their stars often being seen as navigational ones. It is also said that St. Elmo's Fire, a phenomenon in which Plasma would be discharged from masts, was a representation of their protection.
The Dioscuri were widely worshiped in the ancient world. As they were said to be the sons of Tyndareus, king of Sparta, they were closely associated with Sparta. Notably, Spartans had a system of two kings, one responsible for war and one responsible for the homefront. This system was supposed to be a reflection of the myth of the Dioscuri and the two kings were said to have a bond like brothers because of this connection. To cement this, the Spartans had an Idol of both siblings with the king responsible for war taking one of the idols when they left while the other king held the other idol. Notably in Sparta, they were venerated with the same respect as the Twelve Olympians and Hercules which showed just how respected they were. Shrines to them also existed throughout ancient Greece such as in Athens and even as far as Egypt, with it often worshiping both the siblings and Helen. One notable ritual associated with the twins was the idea of a "table offering" wherein a family would "invite" the twins into their homes and offer them food. This was notably different to other sacrifices of food which were often done in personal shrines as opposed to the dinning table. This popularity was so vast that they were among the many myths incorporated into Roman mythology. Notably a prominent temple to the twins was built in the central forum of Rome, the ruins of which can still be seen today. The Romans believed that the Dioscuri were responsible for military triumphs and that they aided Romans on the battlefield, in particular cavalrymen. Certain battles such as the Battle of Lake Regilius and the defense of the banks of the Sargas were attributed to the twins. Decorations of the twins also adorned the Circus Maximus and the two were seen as guardians of homes as seen by their numerous depictions next to the doors of houses in Pompeii. Notably, the popularity of the twins was so great that they were actually incorporated into early Christianity despite their pagan origins. In the fourth century, paintings could be found depiction the Dioscuri alongside the likes of the Virgin Mary, the Twelve Apostles and St. Peter. In the fifth century the Pope mentioned a "cult to Castor" that refused to abandon their practices. Notably, despite the Church's rather...unforgiving nature towards Pagan practices, the Church was actually rather ambivalent towards worship of the Dioscuri likely due to their popularity. That said, the Church did try to associate them with Christian figures such as trying to promote Saint Peter and Paul as the twin patrons of travelers over the twins. Certain New Testament scholars do claim that the Dioscuri inspired the brothers John and James, disciples of Jesus. Notably the Dioscuri actually are mentioned in the Bible though in an entirely incidental role. Specifically, they adorn and Alexandrian ship that Paul rides in Acts of the Apostles.
In Megami Tensei, The Dioscuri only appear as Personas rather than as demons. Pollux or Polydeuces is of course the Persona of Akihiko. His design is humanoid, depicting a blank faced person with flowing blonde hair and in medieval looking armor. It is notably associated with with the color red such as on its gloves and boots. It is true that Pollux is sometimes described as the "Red Gemini". Also notable is the fact that in place of a right hand, Polydeuces posses a syringe. This probably a reference to the Dioscuri's role as healers. Polydeuces is a jack of all trades Persona with decent stats all around. It specializes in both Zio line as well as the Dia line, referencing both Polydeuces's father being Zeus, god of thunder and his role as healer. Polydeuces notably fits Akihiko's character well, being someone who was worshiped in both Sparta and Rome for their strength in battle fits with Akihiko's warrior like personality. Finally, the fact that the Dioscuri were incorporated into Christianity and possibly inspired the acts of some of the Apostles fits with some of the more Christian based imagery later in the game.

Nico. As to having personas for social links, it gives you a boost when you get “points” (the musical notes) toward that social link when interacting with the person in the social link, so that each correct answer, hangout, or gift giving with them gets you closer than normal. It’s always a good idea to have a persona of that specific social link’s arcana on you if possible, since it will make social links progress much faster.
Fun fact: In OG & Fes has one vital gameplay feature that has been completely remove & replace because it very stupid & it didn’t make any sense? That is call “Wait” command. So what “Wait” command does? absolutely nothing your character just standing here… Menacingly while the enemies can attack you wide open being exposed for weakness & take alot of damage. Once Portable came out the “Wait” command has been replaced to Guard command taking the gameplay feature from P4.
If _Portable_ is _Persona 3:_ The _Persona 4_ Edition, _Reload_ is _Persona 3:_ The _Persona 5_ Edition.
It wasn't removed, the command just evolved. The purpose of the wait command was so you could you "Skip" a turn. In many situations it was so you could set up for an all-out attack if you didn't have a attack to hit a certain weakness, or stun lock an enemy/buy time for healing because of how the down system works in that game.

Having a matching Persona wont bump you up to the to the next rank if dont have enough, it'll just give you more points during the hangout. Most rank 2 and 3 events will give you enough points to rank up even without a matching Persona, but after that you'll want to have one when you hang out.
If you had fought the floor bosses without Akihiko, Jumpei and Yukari basically say that it would be nice to have him around to fight them. I only know this because I misunderstood and went into Tartarus too early to get him on my team, and not wanting to waste a day, I one-shot all the way to the next border floor without him ... On Merciless mode. When I finally did get him he was like 10 levels below everyone else. Needless to say, it was tough.
The red shadows were definitely in P3P, I think they were in FES too, but I don't exactly remember.
For the record, Persona 3 Portable does include actual social links with the male party members if you play the Female Protagonist route.

You're not mistaken Nico. Social stats do go up to level 6 in Reload, and it was 5 in the original. and the characters that require max stat still require max stat.
I really like the male hangouts because the strict timing reflects the characters thoughts and attitudes at that point in the main story! Like the female social links can kinda feel weirdly out of place at times

In OG persona 3, floors randomize every time you go to them even if you go back to the entrance and run through them again. It was a way to encourage people to keep pushing on to the floor bosses since they'd have to re-explore the floor if they went back to the entrance. However, you can always start from the highest floor you've explored.
So to fully clarify the Social Link mechanics since you were confused. The way it works with matching Personas is that the Persona being in your deck effectively gives you extra points on every instance you see the music notes pop out (when you say yes to hanging out in the first place plus right answers in the dialogue) kind of like a multiplier. And given the fact that the actual level up hangouts can give you MULTIPLE instances of getting points, yeah you pretty much ALWAYS want a Persona of that arcana when you hang out with someone. This makes my strat for building my deck be "which links am I focusing" while also making those specific Personas at least decent at battle.

2:50 Yeah so basically FeMc had social links w male teammates mostly because it got rid of kenji's as it was clashing with junpei's. Same with Chihiro getting replaced, gourmet king, Hayase for akihiko, Yuko, and whoever the art club guy was. imo all of these could've been scrapped but i guess it's fine when we got these ones instead
Also interestingly chariot and hermit social links were also different for FeMC! So instead of Kazushi there was rio iwasaki, who is kenji's childhood friend that has a crush on him, despite the fact that he's a total trash while she's an absolute angel. Not even FeMC could protect you from Kenji even if his social link wasnt in there, double so when the teacher he's crushing on was Rio's club advisor if i remember correctly. This social link alone made me hate the damn guy like 60% more
Additionally, instead of having Maya as the hermit social link, there was Saori Hasegawa. All I can say is that I fucking love that girl and I would romance her so hard if she was in this game. Hard pick between the two, both of their social links are pretty great

It's "You would have earned 2 points, but now earn three!" So having them whenever you hang out is very important.
I think P3 is also incredibly stingy with social points, you'll need a lot of random hangouts to make proper mileage.
Spirit Drain was in the other games. In p4 it helped negate any SP troubles the MC had, as you could just drain weak enemies in the 1st dungeon. Thus also helping avoid subsequent money troubles caused by the fox's services

Yeah, so the general generosity that the game has with SP items along with spells like Spirit Drain actually being good in P3 are why the fatigue system was in the game in the first place.

To my knowledge on how Social Links work with Personas, Personas increase the value of points you get for correct answers in the events themselves. It's pretty similar overall to social stats, though I find it more consistent with the notes, unlike the stats. If I remember right, there was even an instance in P5 where having a correct persona made a 0 point answer give 3 points.
As for the process of ranking up, it's much simpler than you're making it out to be. When it says "You will rank up soon" or equivalent, it actually means "You will rank up when you hang out". The replies you give on the ranking up scenes go toward satisfying the next rank up throughout that entire event. In essence, you rank up the instant you hit Yes to hang out with them.
16:50 The icon with three lines indicates that there are multiiple different encounters in that area. So it would show up if you have a request and a social link in one area. But if you had multiple social links and no requests it would only show the social link icon.

Yes, having the persona during a level up scene is what helps you carry the social point to the next scene, having the persona does nothing unless you have it equipped during either a level up or hang out scene

Akihiko's Persona, Polydeuces is actually a Servant within the mobile game! In there, she (yes, she) is known as Pollux and is a duo servant with her twin brother, Castor! They're known as the Dioscuri, or Gemini twins.
Funnily enough, she's great boxer and can/WILL beat the shit out of you.

So yes, the one from the old couple was Bebe. Majority of the time a Social Link will mention something that could potentially be a new Social Link, the Old Couple and the Hermit one being ones that mention one in an actual Rank Event. (Example with the old Couple, once you did the Rank where Bebe shows up you can now go to the Home Economics room to start his Social Link. If you didn't do that you would just say "I have no reason to be here" even if you did have the necessary Academics to read the notice.) Yuko's Social Link is the only one that mentions two social links, The little girl at the shrine, and another one. Kenji also mentions one as well, but for Yuko and Kenji you don't have to actually hang out with them for them to mention them they just say that to you when you talk to them.
Advice for the future! If you find a really good skill card, consider holding off on equipping it straight away. There is a really nifty function at the shrine if you talk to the foxes. It's absolutely worth your time and will make a difference! Try it out and see for youself! :)

Nico, when you open the map, press square to see extra info on the different areas. Including any social links that are available at that time. It also shows if you'll rank up or not with them.
Nico had more critical attacks in just this one episode than I have had in my entire 30 hours I have played the game so far... wtf
Nico try to pay attention to what the navigator says at the start of a floor. Mitsuru told you there were multiple rare enemies on the floor where you saw two. Also, Yukari gets Sukunda, which is incredibly useful to stop the rare enemies from evading so much.

So for the social links and having a persona with the matching arcana. You basically wanna have them with you while hanging out with your social link. So for example, some dialogue options would give you 2 music notes, if you have a persona with you, the dialogue would give you 3 music notes. It's most efficient to ALWAYS make sure you have a matching persona with you whenever you hang out with someone
Fun fact. The Persona compendium in vanilla, FES, and Portable doesn't unlock until after the Priestess fight. In Reload it's available from the start.
