@@antimotivation10I am in Bali, Indonesia. The camera never overheat while shooting photos. I can't speak for video because I rarely shot long videos.
@@BrooklynCapo1 I just got mine. EVF seems to get some negative comments from reviewers. I was expecting something worse than I got, especially since I'm used to the H1 EVF. Actually it's better than expected and I have no problem using it.
Or they could make their OWN channel and stop trying to sell out. They clearly have a very large audience and well more than enough views to sustain a comfortable living. I don’t get the draw to sign on with 3rd parties
I upgraded from X-S10 to X-S20 because it resolves the main demerits on the former generation: battery life, auto focus and video capacity on 4K60&HDR. Now it can meets all my needs and I’m pretty satisfied with it!
@@ripcamera This is true, but with the 1.63x crop, the usability of this mode is somewhat hindered. It's a choice between 6.2k open gate or 120fps with a big crop - I'm glad that both exist on the market :)
@@ripcamera Having this option is indeed better than not having it, but since a6700’s 4K120 has a significant crop, I don’t think this function would be very practical for cameras at this price.
As a current fujifilm users and an ex Sony shooter. Hell of a fight between this XS20 vs the A6700. I personally like the Fujifilm IBIS better than Sony. And the new fujifilm autofocus algorithm definitely makes fujifilm a more competitive brand.
There has been great advancements from all brands, and the prices are lower if you take the inflation in the account. I think 2022, 2023 and 2024 are and will be the best years for camera industry, the brands are putting all projects that were stopped because the pandemic and chip shortage. Fuji XH2S and XH2, Nikon Z8, Canon great midrange, Panasonic S5IIX, etc. And just wait for the end of 2023 and all 2024. Canon R5II, Canon R1, Panasonic S1 line with PDAF, Nikon high end APSC, etc.
Got it as an upgrade to my X-T3 for video. It's a wonderful camera so far. I was worried about having to cough up extra change for the XH2s but I'm glad the X-S20 came out.
I too am totally fine with the 26mp sensor and more mainstream control approach. Having rented the SX10, and seeing the new model’s improvements, this SX20 would be my point of entry into the Fuji system.
This has nothing to do with the X-S20, but I recently stumbled across the Unsung Cameras of Yesteryear videos back on TSCTV and remembered how much i missed that series. It was so interesting and so much fun. I really hope you guys would consider reviving it!
This is an amazing little camera. I work in a camera shop and many have switched their X100V orders over to the X-s20 as it was coming faster and met their needs. Definitely a great upgrade from the x-s10
I don't know how long I've been watching you guys - 13 years maybe? So glad Chris and Jordan are still doing their thing and even continuing to get better every year.
It feels like APS-C is having a bit of a renaissance in 2023 after Full Frame seemed to be all the rage over the last few years. Seeing both a string of new APS-C bodies as well as a bunch of new APS-C lenses across multiple mounts is really making me wonder if I still want to lug around my A7IV setup. Now we need Canon to open their mount to third parties so that there’s more competition on the market.
I like the compact nature of the A6700 and X-S20, but I will never buy a camera with a 10 year old EVF. Nothing major has changed with the EVF since the x-t10 and a6300. Give me something like 4 or 6 million dots, I would pay the premium.
@@arvidjohansson3120 I totally agree, but if you are looking for a compact APS-C body what are your options? All 4 cameras in this category, Sony a6700, Fuji X-S20, Canon R7 (which for me doesn't fit in the compact category) and Nikon Z50, use the same viewfinder. So does the OM-5. You have to get into the larger Fuji bodies, X-T5 and X-H2 to get a better VF., and those both significantly heavier, especially the X-H bodies. For me, bottom line is, the A6700 is a reasonable upgrade over the A6600, but not what I was hoping for. It's only a "flagship" because there is nothing better in the Sony APS-C lineup.
I've had the X-S20 for two weeks and have used it for some paid work and I am really happy with my choice. I shoot the Canon R5 for most of my work but for some particular situations, where it's more sort of documentary photography, I rather use the X-S20 over the Canon R5. I'm not even considering switching to Fuji at all but this X-S20 is a great addition to my kit. I am pleased agree with Chris in his stills review of the camera.
@@victors6586 I’ve been using the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 and it’s a great general purpose lens. Really good quality and very compact. The X-S20 IS works really well with this lens too.
I just got this and it is my first camera. I am still figuring everything out, but it seems nice and I am really looking forward to using it. I see many national parks in my future.
As a long distance backpacker, this review would have made me seriously consider the X-s20 instead of my X-T4. I feel like my X-T4 is outright overkill for most of my applications. This camera, with the smaller and lighter body, and an amazing hybrid camera, would be an amazing choice. However my X-T4 is the greatest camera I have ever used. Great review! Thanks yall!
Yep love my X-T4, just wished they would pop the new processor in it and call it X-T4 II. I'd love to have an X-S20, just wished they had dual sd card.
@leovanlierop4580 I didn't think about that. That's a great point. However, I still treat my xt4 like it doesn't have whether sealing :/ That's the whole reason I backpack with an umbrella, so I can keep it dry while it's on my shoulder strap and setting it up for good shots.
@@chefegzyle I got thinktank digital holster 10 that I can ware in front of me on the belt of my rugsack. My lens always has a hood on, no need for an umbrella.
@@chefegzyle I do the same. It is WR, I use it with a WR lens, I pretend it doesn't have WR. But if I'm about to nail a shot or want to take a few more at different apertures and it starts to look like it might drizzle, I love that I don't have to instantly pack it away.
Agreed! Super enjoyable and fun, viewing went quickly. Loved the comment call outs and Jordan mentioning reading them for hours about people wanting the review too, haha
I've had my x-s10 for over a year now and it's been great. Glad to see Fuji continuing this line of camera. The x-s20 is tempting as an upgrade for the battery life alone.
@@antimotivation10 my X-S20 managed 1h47m before the battery died, that's 6.2k30p FLOG2 open gate with face tracking on, performance mode on, continuous AF in a 25c room. The temperature indicator turned red about 30 minutes into the recording, but it kept going until the battery died, very impressed! I saw tests with 34c where it kept recording until the battery died despite showing the temperature warning. If the red indicator is a concern, they have the fan accessory which is nice to know.
I agree that the X-Trans 4 26mp sensor, coupled with the new processor was the right combo for this camera. I actually really wanted this combo for the x-t5.
Me too! I'd like to buy the X-T5 to get the IBIS, but that insanely huge sensor is holding me back. I'm waiting for a X-T5s with the 26mp sensor. Looks like I'll celebrate the 5th anniversary of my X-T3
And IBIS, Dynamic Range in FLOG2 vs SLOG3 (is the 1250 base ISO a hinderance vs 800 on the Sony?), the extended ISO range in low light, lens corrections in video and video battery life :)
Chris & Jordan: thank you for this review. I wasn’t one of your fans pestering you for this review. I enjoyed this review. I’m a Fuji fanboy. I was looking forward to your review and the XS20 seems to be a big improvement of the OG. This body seems to be a very good body for hybrid. Good job Fuji. I will not upgrade to the XS20 though. I just retired and will not buy new gear when what I own is more capable than my needs. Maybe in a couple years when I can purchase the XS20 used and maybe my skills get better? Right now good enough is good enough for me. Looking forward to the comparison video of the A6700 and R6. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
I have the X-S20 and I promise you Nostalgic Neg is the best film simulation of them all! I honestly wouldn’t buy a Fuji camera if it didn’t have that one film simulation. Perfectly warm, not overly saturated. It’s a fantastic camera.
Shame Fuji won't give this to us on any older bodies, they keep saying they support their older cameras, but other than fixing what should've worked in the first place, what did we get? - oh yeh, the new XApp which is garbage.
@@DigiDriftZoneit’s not a perfect solution but you can add Nostalgic Negative in post by changing the name of the camera. There should be a few videos showing how to do it.
Hey in your 2 months, has your X-S20 given any heating issues ? Like when browsing through the menus ? I wanna get the X-S20 for the Nostalgic Neg too !
@@bilbo8338 No overheating but I returned it for a refund because of IBIS corner wobbling with wide lenses, poor dynamic range in video, the crop in video and poor video autofocus. It's a great photo camera, but then so is the X-S10 really having the same sensor and only marginally worse autofocus in photos.
In case anyone is wondering about the wobbles from other reviewers a lot of them were using the new 8mm that fuji also sent them to test. I’m guessing the wobbles in other videos were based on the ultra wide lens and not the camera. The 10-24 does the same thing at 10mm, both versions of it. Going to 12-14mm seems to fix this issue. So you should be good with the 10-24 at 12+ or with the 16mm prime (though still a little bit too close to my face for my comfort but some people like it) if they made a 12, 13 or 14mm prime ( a new one) it would be a nice alternative too.
it's so nice to see you guys on PetaPixel channel now. I love you two doing reviews of cameras and I've been a Fuji fan for a while now. This may be my next camera doing both photos and videos. Thanks for your great work as usual!
I had three minor „complaints“ about the XS10 after using it for 2 years (hybrid shooter with focus on video): -no 4K 60 -no 10 Bit -weak battery (most important) Fixed everything now 👍🏻 And got 6K open gate + better AF as additional Features. For video it’s worth an upgrade imo. For photo i don’t think so. But just replaced my XS10 with a used XT4. It offers similar specs at a lower price point on the used market. But it’s bigger! But also more beautiful 😍
Interesting, I have an X-S10 and an X-S20, I may just sell the X-S10 for an X-T4 to have that pretty camera but still have 4k60 10bit in B-Roll. The X-T4 are a great price right now as many are getting the X-S20.
When I handled the XS-10, I found it felt quite plasticky. I guess that's what they need to do to minimize weight. Still, with this glowing review I might want to give the XS-20 a shot. I have never owned a Fuji camera but have always been quite interested in them. Really appreciate the review. (Irregardless?)
I own both and the X-S20 does feel a tiny bit less plasticky, it's a softer material (or could just be the age difference). The buttons are slightly clickier on the X-S20, the half shutter press on the X-S20 feels like the full press on the X-S10 (so much so I keep failing to take a photo not realising I need to press harder!), but there's not much between them to be honest. Cameras like the X-T3 look/feel a bit more special, but I always gravitated to the X-S10 for its compact size and ease of use. With that said, the X-S10 still looks/feels much more premium than the Sony A6xxx series.
I have a used x-t30 and x-t4. I’m very tempted to trade the x-t4 for the x-s20. I know I have 2 card slots (it’s never been an issue having one previously so no big deal) and weather sealing which the x-s20 doesn’t have but I find the x-t4 quite heavy for the size of grip. It’s not the weight as a stand alone but the carry weight with such a small grip can be uncomfortable after a while whereas the x-s20 has a great sized grip. I know image quality will be great but I’m very conflicted as I don’t want to regret it. Unfortunately the camera shop isn’t hiring any atm to get a good feel for it. I would like to do small amounts of video but listening to people talk about video is as understandable for me as a foreign language but I get the idea that it’s good for video 😂 I was also waiting for this review and it didn’t disappoint, thanks.
I've got the X-S10 so not much reason to upgrade. The X-S10/S20 are superb cameras. I wish the EVF was bigger, but I find increasing brightness helps mitigate small EVF issues. They do lack a little character compared to the X-T1, X-T3, X-T30, X-E2 I've owned. I use my X-S10 for my personal photography, and for work video shooting - and it's great for both.
I have both an X-S10 and I replaced my X-T3 with an X-S20. The reasons I love my X-20 vs the X-S10 are: 1. No more corner wobbling in video with wide lenses - that one is enough right there. 2. Battery life is MUCH better, 2 hours video recording on 1 battery - vs something like 30 min on the X-S10. No more battery anxiety, or having to swap batteries mid take or while walking around on holiday. 3. Autofocus is MUCH better, I can point it at my cats and it just locks on to their eyes, heads and bodies (depending on what's visible). Same for face/eye, you can turn around and it will latch on to the back of your head, your face doesn't need to be visible, I can actually trust it now. It still sucks for any object it can't track/recognise, but baby steps, there's no tap to track either still :( 4. H.265 10bit 4:2:2 is night and day vs the H.264 8bit 4:2:0, you can finally recover highlights/shadows in FLOG2 and get 14 stops dynamic range, it's amazing and actually slightly better than the X-H2! 5. 6.2k open gate means you can crop your video for Instagram and UA-cam (arguable a lot more useful than the 8K in the X-H2, it's like a baby X-H2S). 6. 4k60p for much better b-roll than 4k30. 7. Extra stop of IBIS is nice. 8. LCD is way better, I was quite shocked by the improvement - I wasn't expecting it to be so pronounced. I sold the X-T3 and not the X-S10 because: no IBIS, bigger/heavier, terrible hand grip, I prefer an articulating screen, missing some software features (e.g. Auto ISO doesn't show you the value until AFTER you've taken the shot, why!?), etc - but it is a beautiful camera I have to say. Might get an X-T1 one just to keep on the shelf :) I agree with you, the EVF on the 2018 X-T3 is WAY better than the 2023 X-S20, come on Fuji!
@@bilbo8338 There's no difference for photography other than the burst rate speed and autofocus from what I can tell. Things like animal eye detect do make it easier to take a photo of an animal running towards you say, or action sports. But I don't think autofocus in photo was ever that bad in Fuij, it's the video auto focus that's still not great.
@@bilbo8338 Just for transparency, I sent mine back because it was no good for video, corner IBIS wobbles with wide lenses, still bad video autofocus, poor dynamic range in 5.6k, terrible stabilisation (and no motion data so you cannot stabalise in post). I decided to jump to the ZV-E1 which ended up being cheaper with a few lenses and the results are night and day, I recorded a video about it here: ua-cam.com/video/aJYSz4mK95Y/v-deo.html - despite just 12MP I'm also getting much better photos because of the better dynamic range and low light performance, allowing me to crank up the shutter and still get better results at ISO50,000 than Fuji provides with ISO3200.
It's a shame that Nikon haven't any offer in the APSC range with specs that match Sony, Canon or Fuji. It's the Nikon's way, maybe in 2024 they will bring a shuterless mirrorless "D500" camera, with stacked fast sensor and all the power of the Z9 processor.
Getting an APS-C body from Nikon would be one thing but getting more lenses would be much better. It has been years since my D500 initial purchase and I am still waiting for Nikon lenses for that format. At least the likes of Tamron and Sigma have picked up the gap there.
Ya maybe got photography but for video graph nikon is.fsr behind except for its most flagship which so give raw video (won against red I guess). Nikon is mostly known or used for photos and it's usually used in performance basketball or sports and wildlife photography. YOU never hear a pro video Grapher using or saying I gotta have my nikon on.this music video lol
@@Shuttterbugg that will change. The Z8 / Z9 tech will be in next Nikon cameras. And just let me tell that Nikon figured how to video. The results from the basic cheapo Z30 are simply great in every aspect if you know how to use it, even if it's only 8bit video. So Nikon have the tech, have the knowledge and when they put the tech in the midrange things will be freaking interesting. A sub 2500usd baby Z9 with APSC sensor and Z9 processor to compete with the XH2S and S5II and a sub 1500usd full frame to compete with the R8, without IBIS, a normal sensor, with shutter mech, but the processing power of Z9
Fortunate to use a z8/z9 for most things, have a z30 as the `toss in backpack all the time` option, enjoyable in many respects and image quality fine for intended use, but the autofocus is maddening in comparison. Found a used (!) x-s20 on b&h, thinking this will make a very good travel camera. Hate to have to duplicate lenses, but truthfully keeping general travel use in mind, probably just one or two beyond the kit should do it.

Great review as always. Thanks to pointing issues like touch screen, heating, etc; which is essential in this price point. Hope Canon 4K 60p fine more has a little less crop (maybe 1.18). The real competition (between A6700, Canon R7, and Fuji XS-20) is in the lens where Canon is outdated and slow.
I literally was waiting for this review.. I purchased the X-S20 today. I could not afford the X-H2s and was actually saving for it when this camera came out.. I hope to get enough work with this camera to add the X-h2s as a new A-Roll. I am coming from the Canon M-50 and really considered the R8and R7, But affordable cinema camera and the simulations of Fuji has the look of storytelling I desire to go into.... @mosaic11 what if you have neither. I'm a Canon M50 user, to be honest I am actually quite happy but I am looking at something better for sports. Was keen on an R10 or R7 but there's been quite a few AF issues coming up so now I'm back looking at new cameras and this X-S20 was something I never previously considered. I just hate how manufacturers don't make all their cameras weather resistant
@@thetoyota86perspective54 I don't think it's that important to emphasize the water resistance of the body. In most cases, you won't be shooting in harsh weather conditions. And even if you do have to shoot in that environment, a plastic bag can usually solve the problem. If you're on a budget, the X-S20 is a good option. I personally bought the X-H2S because it can shoot 4K60p without cropping! This is important because it means I can always prioritize 60p shooting, and I can have more freedom to choose which parts to slow down in post-production.
Great review thank you! 😅As many already said, I am really waiting for the comparison of the Fuji X-S20 with Sony a6700 and Canon R7. From this video the IBIS whilst walking didn't seem as good as is in some R7 videos but there we are still waiting for the rumored Sigma and Canon rf-s lenses and it's quite lacking with the codecs too.. Sony AF might be a little better than Fuji but Ibis and interface? Quite a tough competition among these three!!
Pleased to have so much Petapixel content this week! Also, broken record somewhat, but I'm really looking forward to seeing Panasonic's hybrid competitor - specifically the next m43 camera (G9 II?). I think it could be a huge contender for the XS20 in terms of best balance of hybrid features.
I was having overheating problems (I live in Australia) and it was turning off even at 1080 after 25 minutes. I bought the ulanzi camera fan and its great. Much cheaper than the real fan and just clips on. Also it works really well as just a heat sync even when i dont turn it on. Highly recomend.
Sadly most trustworthy camera reviewers live under scorching sun of 19°C 😅 I have a similar problem here in Indonesia, but I have no experience with Ulanzi, might try it out from the store, thanks 😊
great review. I have the X-S20 and I love this camera so much. I switched from my old EOS M50 to Fujifilm and I really don't regret it. The EOS R7 was my first choice but the lenses are way too expensive for me. Also, there is no 3rd party support for lenses. The Sony a6700 is so much more expensive in Germany. Here the a6700 body costs about 1700€. The X-S20 costs 1400€. With the 300€ extra budget, I bought a new lens. The Sigma 18-50mm f2.8, for example, fits the X-S20 perfectly.
Mehdi, as an M50 user myself, my biggest issue with Fuji is their AF. I shoot youth sports (my sons football matches) and the dual pixel AF in the M50 is unreal. My hit rate is very good. When I put up a post in the Fuji groups they told me to stick with Canon. How do you find the AF? Have you done many sports shots or wildlife/action? AF is probably the single, most critical component of any camera so it's my number one priority. Loving the M50 still though
@@thetoyota86perspective54 yes, the m50 is still a great camera. But the handling isn't that good. Especially with the one dial. I'm not shooting sports and wildlife. That's why I don't need perfect autofocus. The autofocus of the Fuji is perfect for me as a street and architecture photograph. Also the video capabilities is amazing. The m50 with the extra crop 4k video mode and the contrast autofocus is horrible nowadays.
@@lltechview I highly doubt it because they are very good at what they are doing. But check some more stabilization videos if you want to because this one doesn't do it justice.

Thanks guys….feel a lot better after this review as I purchased as a backup / video-centric camera to pair with the X-T5. Based on Jordan’s review I really feel like I can grow into this camera. Currently testing out kinda closeby in Winnipeg.
I bought an X-S20 a day before the A6700 was released and now I'm torn, should I keep it or get the Sony. The things swaying me to the Sony are no crop in 4k60 / FHD240p (why add a crop Fuji!), much better video AF, catalyst (for some awesome post processing options), weather sealing (I don't film in the rain but got rained on several times and was scared for my X-S10), 4K120p (even with the huge 1.63x crop), higher ISO range (better in low light?), the ISO for SLOG3 Is 800 instead of 1250 on the Fuji FLOG2 (less noisy video?), amazing in body fixes for lens breathing and other lens defects (can't find any info on in body fixed on the Fuji?), I'm finding the exact same lenses are 20-30% cheaper in E-mount vs X-mount. The things swaying me to the Fuji is the open gate 6.2k (great for instagram and UA-cam cropping), no overheating in video, better IBIS (on paper anyway, I can't find a side by side video test), 4k60 USB webcam (single USB cable for power / external recording with film sims, very cool!), better LCD screen, joystick is super handy, fuji colours and film simulations are awesome to have, some unique great lenses, many years of meaningful firmware updates (Sony are notorious for neglecting cameras after release). I'm very torn! - Any thoughts? :)
You put together a very good comparison for video. Fujifilm does offer lens corrections for distortion and vignetting but the only lens I'm aware of that gets breathing correction from the camera is the 18-120 video lens. Of course the MKX lenses are parfocal and all around corrected. Not sure how well the Sony corrections work in real life and how much you actually use the high frame rate options but you can find out for yourself by renting.
@@problemat1que That's interesting about the Fuji in body lens corrections - is that just for photos or for video too?- I cannot find any info on this! - I was looking more into the Sony one and you need to have specific super expensive Sony GM lenses to get focus breathing correction, so that limits the usefulness massively. For Fuji, I assume any lens correction is only done for Fuji lenses? - But the focus breathing on those F2 Fuji primes is just horrendeous and I've not been able to correct this in post in Da Vinci or Final Cut - I would like to keep my kit as small/light as possible so I'm avoiding the MKX lenses. I also find at least the Final Cut video stabilisation is simply unusable with Fuji footage (haven't tried any other editors). I don't use high frame rate much to be honest, it's a nice to have. But weather sealing, no crop in 4k, much better AF, catalyst for hand held video with motion, bigger ISO range for low light use and lower base ISO in SLOG3 vs FLOG2 could be significant (not sure how significant 800 vs 1250 base ISO is though, would love to see a comparison). Also, once you add the Tamron 11-20 F2.8, Sigma 18-50 F2.8 and Viltrox 13mm F1.3, the Sony A6700 is a good 20%+ cheaper than the Fuji, because the X-Mount versions of these lenses are a lot more expensive (both new and second hand).
@@clementc7297 I also had an X-T3 until recently and still have an X-S10. They've seen a lot of firmware updates, but I can't really say anything that substantial, the autofocus went from unusable, to slightly better over 2 years of updates, but still not at the level the A6600 shipped with originally. The new XApp is garbage too and it was probably cheaper for them to support a single app for all cameras, than to maintain the old app - what would you say got better that improved your Fuji camera beyond what Sony had without updates? A lot of Sony shooters complain that Sony isn't bringing features through firmware updates, but nor is Fuji. There's loads of "bug fixes" but most of the time I can't even tell what's changed. The X-S10 isn't getting animal subject detection, or 10bit, or even the new film simulation. Nothing of marketable value is being added from what I can tell which is a shame.
Pretty sure lens corrections apply universally to jpg and video (except raw video of course which by definition doesn't get any corrections baked in except in the metadata that some processing software will use to apply corrections when you load the file).
I'll be sticking with my X-S10, but this one does have some very nice upgrades. The improved battery probably being the biggest one tbh, and maybe the improved autofocus (might have to check a comparison for that).
If I didn't got a great deal in the used market ($1400 X-T5!) I probably will still rock my X-S10 and perfectly fine with it. It's a nice camera for the $700 I bought it used. It's even better at some aspects that my current X-T5, mainly on video. I still prefer the XT series' control though.
Not for me, as I’ve already got several other recent Fujifilm bodies, but this sounds great. Any time someone asks me for a camera recommendation, I reckon this will be the one I suggest. Thanks, as always, for the excellent review.
We've just got the X-S20 and overall it looks and feels great, but we are having issues with what we desire to be the main use of the camera: to use as a webcam (Zoom, Google Meet) and for OBS purposes (for UA-cam videos). Supposedly the camera should be very "plug and play" in terms of setting up the webcam functionality, but we are having issues with that in every place we try to use the "webcam" it just freezes after a few seconds (sometimes a minute or two). I.e., the camera feed on the LCD on the camera itself works just fine, but the camera on Zoom or OBS etc. just freezes after a very short while.
If you are planning to shoot a short film or any serious film look videos, then DCI 4K is required. So in my opinion, the below points must be satisfied for a true video camera - - DCI 4K internal recording - 4:2:2 internal recording - ProRes and BRAW recording - Shooting in Log profile - True 24p shooting - In-body stabilization - Subject and eye detection in Auto focus + Can Sony a6700 meet these points? I doubt. So X-S20 is a king at this price point.
The X-S10 is a fantastic camera and now I need the S20. My biggest complaint about the S10 is that battery and now they fixed it. Also the "beetles" you found are actually a type of bug (order hempitera), a mixture of juveniles and adults., but as I am unsavvy on Canadian bugs, I cannot help with a species iD.
Thanks. Great review. Just having my first look at fujifilm cameras via an X-T200 which a friend has asked me how to use it.There are so many good cameras theses days but for the average newbie they are a bit daunting.
Always love your videos, thank you for this one👍🏾👍🏾 1 were any of the early uncaptioned pieces to camera shot on the XS-20? Colours looked really good. 2.Headphone jack on the right is really clever - it gets the headphone cable out of the way.
Would be nice to mention connectivity, transfer of the photos to your phone. Mostly cameras are lacking in this department. If this continues, the market will just follow phones in a few years
Excellent video! While the advances over the S10 are evolutionary they are real and worthwhile, even the extra battery capacity alone would be a useful upgrade. This is just a good, solid camera that does everything well enough at a reasonable cost. Fujifilm also offer a great range of lenses. I think the Sony Alpha6700 is ahead on autofocus and also has some great lenses but in most respects (expecially handling) I much prefer the S20. A great enthusiast camera.
I've been using it a lot for 70% photo 30% video for a year since its release. It's hard to take moving video shots while walking because the IBIS function is weak in video shooting. Other than that, it's a very satisfying hybrid camera.
That was a good review on xs20! Now I can't decide on either xs20 or Sony a7c. I used to be a Canon shooter for the family/travel photography long time ago. I need the light camera I can carry. My hand is small!
Hey what about the dual gain iso at flog 2 Is it the same as the bigger brother the xh2s where it has two bases like the iso 1200 and 3200 Or is it like the xt4 Flog 640 iso and 2000 iso ?!?

I had the X-S10 and it seems like they've improved pretty much everything that I wanted improved in that camera! Too bad I can't afford a new camera at the moment, but maybe someday I'll get myself a sweet Fujifilm X-S20. 😍
I am using the XS-10 and quite loving it so far. I was hyped a lot for X-S20 when it came out but after dust settles, I think I don't really need to upgrade ASAP as my workflow only requires 4K 24/30p for now. But it's definitely on my top list to get as an upgrade later on. Great review!
Other than the obvious: 6.2k for crop/reposition flexibility, 4k60, 10bit 4:2:2 FLOG2 (slightly better than X-H2 dynamic range!), etc - it's little things like, while I rarely film over 30 minutes, I always worry about how long left before it shuts off, or how much battery is left (or I have to add extra steps of running power to the camera), no more! - Autofocus on the X-S10 loses me, a lot, the X-S20 I can turn away from the camera and it latches to the back of my head, it's a huge improvement. I'm still keeping my X-S10 though for a second video angle, still a great camera!
On the XT5 does the skin smoothing mode under the dynamic range on the first page of the menu work in video or just on stills? It seems like that could speed up a wedding workflow.
That was a really enjoyable video. Feel’s like that since starting working with Petapixel really reignited your passion guys. Like you said on the podcast. I’m really not in the marked for any kind of new gear but if you continue like that your videos worth watching anyways. Though now that I think about it, when will you review the K3 III Monochrome? 😀
Box Elder bugs, my old house was infested with them. completely harmless, but impossible to get rid of. Imagine the mass you saw, but across the entire side of a 2500 sqft house. Great review!
For xh2s im gonna give you A TIP When using flog2 The xh2s has a dual gain iso feature Meaning yes the native iso is 1200 But whats intresting here that you can bump to 3200 iso where the second gain kicks in and cleans up the captured up to 50% of the noise This is only noticible after applying the grade in post Youd still get some noise but its alot cleaner than iso 2500 Do this and also use a higher rsolution than 1080p Do keep in mind that this system isnt a dual base iso camera unlike a canon c400 or a redkomodo Your low light footage will look really nice as the noise generated is organic and has a filmic look to it unlike other brands that have a chroma noise pattern that ruins skin tones As for the xh2 and xt5 the dual gain iso kicks in at flog2 iso 2500 The xt5 and xh2 are a higher res sensor and thus prone to more noise in lowlight The xt4 when using flog1 kicks in at iso2000 Im surprised that fuji doesnt advertise this feature unlike sony or blackmagic.....etc Now my question for fujifilm Does the xs20 have a dual gain iso similar to xh2s given that it has the new procesor??? Any xs20 flog2 users out there that can confirm this?!?
@@jeongjaepil hey thanks Your actually the first guy to confirm this Never saw any video explaining this feature Even Jared undone skipped this camera sadly due to it being described as a baby xh2s Appreciate the response
I feel that it may be a tempting upgrade from my XT3... Just the weather sealing... I'm not keen on the 40MP sensor... and prefer to shoot fixed aperture, auto iso and play with exposure compensation to align to the left and have the custom modes... Tempting...

I've been using X-S20 for two weeks now. Loving it so far! I agree with Chris, they need to make Auto Subject Detection available for every mode.

I upgraded from X-S10 to X-S20 because it resolves the main demerits on the former generation: battery life, auto focus and video capacity on 4K60&HDR. Now it can meets all my needs and I’m pretty satisfied with it!
If it had 4K120 though! That would be the dream, especially with a6700 having it.

@@ripcamera This is true, but with the 1.63x crop, the usability of this mode is somewhat hindered. It's a choice between 6.2k open gate or 120fps with a big crop - I'm glad that both exist on the market :)

As a current fujifilm users and an ex Sony shooter. Hell of a fight between this XS20 vs the A6700. I personally like the Fujifilm IBIS better than Sony. And the new fujifilm autofocus algorithm definitely makes fujifilm a more competitive brand.
Would love to see that comparison
We live in a golden age of camera tech
This is top tier sarcasm 😂
@@SMGJohn I assure you it is not
There has been great advancements from all brands, and the prices are lower if you take the inflation in the account.
When hasn't it been the golden age? Camera tech has always been constantly moving forward and getting better.
Yes, for video, but for still we have the same tech as 10 years ago
Exactly. Having just ordered the A6700, I wonder when and why I'll ever pick up my A7RV.
i switched from FF to x-t5 and never looked back!

The lack of weather sealing would not make me buy this for backpacking. Still happy to use my X-T3 for that.

You guys need to compare auto focus between R7, S20, and 6700. That should be a cracker with Jordan doing the S runs.
And IBIS, Dynamic Range in FLOG2 vs SLOG3 (is the 1250 base ISO a hinderance vs 800 on the Sony?), the extended ISO range in low light, lens corrections in video and video battery life :)

I had three minor „complaints“ about the XS10 after using it for 2 years (hybrid shooter with focus on video):
-no 4K 60
-no 10 Bit
-weak battery (most important)
Fixed everything now 👍🏻 And got 6K open gate + better AF as additional Features.
@@DigiDriftZone Yes and lots of used XT4 on the rebuy market now, because many photographers updated to the XT5 😊
The reasons I love my X-20 vs the X-S10 are:
It still sucks for any object it can't track/recognise, but baby steps, there's no tap to track either still :(
Might get an X-T1 one just to keep on the shelf :)
I agree with you, the EVF on the 2018 X-T3 is WAY better than the 2023 X-S20, come on Fuji!

@@DigiDriftZone Thanks thats good to know. I might go for the X-S20 just for the deeper grip and better battery life.

Please make a video on Sony a6700 vs Fuji XS20
It's a shame that Nikon haven't any offer in the APSC range with specs that match Sony, Canon or Fuji. It's the Nikon's way, maybe in 2024 they will bring a shuterless mirrorless "D500" camera, with stacked fast sensor and all the power of the Z9 processor.
The Nikon one would be at the price of $1200, if things keep going in the same price's way strategy! that'a good hope!! jaja

As an X-T5 shooter, I think I could consider an X-S20 as a very nice back up camera.
I’m an aps-c diehard and it’s so nice to see all the tech, and now with the $1400 a6700 and this fuji I have a real tough choice to make
I think it's easy to choose, depending on what lenses you already have.
Finally! A Peta-take on the X-S20!
Sadly most trustworthy camera reviewers live under scorching sun of 19°C 😅
I have a similar problem here in Indonesia, but I have no experience with Ulanzi, might try it out from the store, thanks 😊
This looks like a game changer body for Fuji System users ! Considering the 1300 USD price, this is such a great camera without any noticeable flaws.
We need a comparison with Sony a6700...
Desperately and urgently, where is it guys? - come on! :D
great review.
But basically they are all vastly overpriced! In the past you got a professional camera for this prices
I’m not too sure about the vlogging footage; looked too shaky. But overall, this is one of my upgrade options.
Indeed. idk why it looked that shaky. I have xs20 and it has excellent ibis even for walking and vlogging.
@@GeorgeKalokairinos So maybe stabilisation deactivated by accident.
@@lltechview I highly doubt it because they are very good at what they are doing. But check some more stabilization videos if you want to because this one doesn't do it justice.
@@GeorgeKalokairinoswhat lens were you using for vlogging?
@@GeorgeKalokairinos Its weird anyway it looks like a too narrow lense held stretched out very far. Footage on my X-S10 with 16mm has better stabilisation than this
Thanks guys….feel a lot better after this review as I purchased as a backup / video-centric camera to pair with the X-T5. Based on Jordan’s review I really feel like I can grow into this camera. Currently testing out kinda closeby in Winnipeg.
I live in Winnipeg too! Just got the X-S20 as my first camera and I've been loving it! So much to learn!
The fuj will get better and better over time. The Sony will stay as it is. Fuj has better lenses. And it's more fun to use than Sony.
Great comparison video as always
Finally decided on a camera. Thank you for this review ❤
I'll be sticking with my X-S10, but this one does have some very nice upgrades. The improved battery probably being the biggest one tbh, and maybe the improved autofocus (might have to check a comparison for that).
Crossroads fleamarket looks like a treasure trove of vintage cameras, love it!
Love you guys. Good job and up Fujifilm xs20.
I was being in two minds of buying either X-H2 or X-T5 .. now I know which one to buy.
Not for me, as I’ve already got several other recent Fujifilm bodies, but this sounds great. Any time someone asks me for a camera recommendation, I reckon this will be the one I suggest. Thanks, as always, for the excellent review.
Maybe a full video comparing with new a6700?
So in my opinion, the below points must be satisfied for a true video camera -
- DCI 4K internal recording
- 4:2:2 internal recording
- ProRes and BRAW recording
- Shooting in Log profile
- True 24p shooting
- In-body stabilization
- Subject and eye detection in Auto focus +
Can Sony a6700 meet these points? I doubt. So X-S20 is a king at this price point.
Oh please make a comparison vs Sony 6700 and Canon R10 / R7
The X-S10 is a fantastic camera and now I need the S20. My biggest complaint about the S10 is that battery and now they fixed it. Also the "beetles" you found are actually a type of bug (order hempitera), a mixture of juveniles and adults., but as I am unsavvy on Canadian bugs, I cannot help with a species iD.
Thanks. Great review. Just having my first look at fujifilm cameras via an X-T200 which a friend has asked me how to use it.There are so many good cameras theses days but for the average newbie they are a bit daunting.
Always love your videos, thank you for this one👍🏾👍🏾
1 were any of the early uncaptioned pieces to camera shot on the XS-20? Colours looked really good.
2.Headphone jack on the right is really clever - it gets the headphone cable out of the way.
Re point 2. And you know the plug on that side is for the headphones, the other other side is for the microphone. No confusion, or peeking needed.
Would be nice to mention connectivity, transfer of the photos to your phone. Mostly cameras are lacking in this department. If this continues, the market will just follow phones in a few years
Thank you, guys. Looks like a fabulous camera. 🎉
14:47 where is that comparison? Please
About time, the X-S30 release is next month!
Jordan’s color work is ❤
Loved the video. When are you guys doing an XS20 review? 💃
I've been using it a lot for 70% photo 30% video for a year since its release. It's hard to take moving video shots while walking because the IBIS function is weak in video shooting. Other than that, it's a very satisfying hybrid camera.
Great video as always!!! Thank you guys! :D
Really wish Nikon had some apsc cameras coming out soon. They really need to upgrade their apsc system
Sure we’d all love a Z8/9 but short of a lottery win can’t justify spending that much, An updated z50 would interest me though.
That was a good review on xs20! Now I can't decide on either xs20 or Sony a7c. I used to be a Canon shooter for the family/travel photography long time ago. I need the light camera I can carry. My hand is small!
Hey what about the dual gain iso at flog 2
Is it the same as the bigger brother the xh2s where it has two bases like the iso 1200 and 3200
Or is it like the xt4
Flog 640 iso and 2000 iso ?!?
This whoops the 6700.which I wws . impress d with 7 stop of ibis 6.5k open gate 4k 60 10 bit I.mesn braw etc it's nuts I hate people dissing aps c I use micro 4/3 over my full frame.camera so I'm.not hating at all aps c is here to stay I think!!
When will the xs20 vs a6700 come out
I had the X-S10 and it seems like they've improved pretty much everything that I wanted improved in that camera!
@@DigiDriftZone Sure, that's why I am only planning to get X-S20 as an additional camera later on. Still want to keep X-S10 as secondary.
jordan, irregardless isn't a word. Much love for the content looks like a cool camera
I really like that camera, the image quality and how fast auto focus is amazing. It is small, good handler, absolutely love it!
Great review well done🎉
I think we 'll have to wait for a G9 mkii now. It's gonna be another tough opponent.
4:25 those are box elder bugs. It looks like they swarm to warm themselves up. The bright red ones are nymphs
Thanks for the review!
On the XT5 does the skin smoothing mode under the dynamic range on the first page of the menu work in video or just on stills? It seems like that could speed up a wedding workflow.
IRREGARDLESS IS NOT A WORD THAT EXISTS
(love you)
Sucks there's a vlog mode but it's jittery as hell when you walk and take video with the camera
For xh2s im gonna give you A TIP
When using flog2
The xh2s has a dual gain iso feature
Meaning yes the native iso is 1200
But whats intresting here that you can bump to 3200 iso where the second gain kicks in and cleans up the captured up to 50% of the noise
This is only noticible after applying the grade in post
Youd still get some noise but its alot cleaner than iso 2500
Do this and also use a higher rsolution than 1080p
Do keep in mind that this system isnt a dual base iso camera unlike a canon c400 or a redkomodo
Your low light footage will look really nice as the noise generated is organic and has a filmic look to it unlike other brands that have a chroma noise pattern that ruins skin tones
As for the xh2 and xt5 the dual gain iso kicks in at flog2 iso 2500
The xt5 and xh2 are a higher res sensor and thus prone to more noise in lowlight
The xt4 when using flog1 kicks in at iso2000
Im surprised that fuji doesnt advertise this feature unlike sony or blackmagic.....etc
Now my question for fujifilm
Does the xs20 have a dual gain iso similar to xh2s given that it has the new procesor???
Any xs20 flog2 users out there that can confirm this?!?
X-S20's F-Log2 second base ISO is 3200
@@jeongjaepil hey thanks
Your actually the first guy to confirm this
Never saw any video explaining this feature
Even Jared undone skipped this camera sadly due to it being described as a baby xh2s
Appreciate the response
7:59
Chris: sees fishing rods on the flea market
Jordan: instantly cuts the video off
I feel that it may be a tempting upgrade from my XT3... Just the weather sealing... I'm not keen on the 40MP sensor... and prefer to shoot fixed aperture, auto iso and play with exposure compensation to align to the left and have the custom modes... Tempting...
