I don't think it's selfish to expect a brand new flagship camera to have the bells and whistles that a camera that's $1000 less and came out less than a year later has. I expect they will add some or all of these features via firmware rather than repeat the mistake they made with the XH1 when they released the XT3 soon after and it had better specs. The XH series can't take another hit like that. I was planning to buy two more XH2s for three-camera long format interviews, but if the XS20 does unlimited 4K recording, I'll just buy two of those. If there's no recording limit on the XS20, for my needs, there would be no difference between the XS20 and the XH2s. Really glad to see them innovating at a lower price point, but they can't leave customers of their flagship camera wondering what we paid an extra grand for. One of those "it's no longer the same camera you bought" old school Fuji firmware updates better be coming for the XH2s.

As someone looking to upgrade from the X-T3 for video purposes, the X-S20 is kinda perfect. I wanted to go the X-H2s route but saving up is tough, and for what I shoot and how I shoot, the X-S20 might be a great way to save some money but not skimp on the video improvements. I don't do relay recording, I don't need internal RAW and the highest bitrate I ever care to use is 200 mbs, well within SD card capability.
I literally just left a comment on the same lines. I've never upgraded my X-T3 either but for so many reasons, this looks like the sweet spot and makes the X-H2 a waste of money for my needs. It's an awesome release.

@@andreacristoforetti2061 The X-T4 has a 30 minute record limit, which is a nonstarter for an "upgrade". XS10 underrated, I bought when released and I love mine, such a great camera, the best budget camera I would say. XS20 follows the legacy, except price increase, which I think is a dealbreaker… I’m waiting to see (according to previous releases) the xpro4, I have faith. I’m 99% in photo rather than video. XS10 still good to me, but looking for a purist photo camera (like t5?) but seems the pro is more the style I’m looking for.
Thanks a lot for this quick review! I think you covered almost all the specs of the camera and with a lot of test in a really short period of time. This s-x20 looks really good for hybrid shooters and Fujifilm is targeting a new type of users like content creators who want to take an extra step for being more professional. With their work. I think this camera is really well balanced in between a x-t and a x-h model getting the best of both worlds in a cheaper and smaller body
Great first look, Chris. Hope that you could get another unit for a more detailed test. I'm a X-S10 user and this one looks to solve all my biggest gripes with it - bigger battery (the X-S10 in Boost mode just CHEWS batteries, more than any other camera that I had), better AF (face / eye detect is unusable in X-S10 with more than one person in the frame, the focus spot goes nuts) and IBIS (still want to see if Fuji finally makes a better IBIS for video - for stills is great, but for videos it always "fight" with the start of a pan, specially a little one; is a behaviour that I saw even in the newest models). A bit larger EVF and some more controls (and yes, a pressable dial) would be perfect, but are not deal breakers one. Still want to see real world tests to see if I upgrade - after all, it is a sizeable price difference. Thanks again!
So glad they launched this before I picked up an X-H2. I have never upgraded my X-T3 (I'll never sell it) due to not wanting/needing a 40MP APS-C sensor. With all the new generation features, AF and processor, 26MP and great ergonomics, especially at the price it'll launch... I think this is looking like the sweet spot in the Fuji range and could be THE sleeper camera, period. Gah, I'm buying one, aren't I? Take my money.
Appreciate the review, I am in the market for a travel camera and I think this will fit the bill for me. I love street and landscape with just a little bit of video.
The reason that S20 doesn't have the 4KHQ mode is exactly like you said, the 26mp sensor, the 4K footage is by default oversampled and downsampled from 6.2K to 4K. It may even have slightly better DR than 4KHQ in X-T5 as T5 can't utilize the entire sensor for 4KHQ, not to mention less rolling shutter delay for S20 as well.
At this point Pal2 bhai, you are as close to the official UA-cam representative of Fuji as we are likely to get, so we definitely can understand Fuji sending you this camera. Hopefully it'll end up in your kit some day, seems like the perfect camera for your channel work (or UA-cam channel work in general). It fixes all my personal niggles with the Fuji X-S10, particularly the 8-bit codecs, which got me to choose the X-T3 over the X-S10.
Thanks for getting this review out so quickly! On another note, I hope that you are planning a a review of the new FUJIFILM XApp - sooner than later! I have been somewhat successful with it but am uncertain of the workflow - how it uploads to the "FujiFilm Network Service", if that really exists, and some other quirks - like my XT-3 shutting off during some parts of the process. Yes, I updated my camera before installing the app and yes, I am using the newest version of the app downloaded from the Apple app store. Thanks for all that you do to help someone like me struggling to learn my ridiculously versatile and complicated camera! 😁
This is really great information, more than what was presented at the X Summit. I am eagerly awaiting the Xapp. Did notice Fuji commented to make sure to update your firmware in the camera BEFORE the Xapp, and sure enough, it is in their firmware page.
This is an amazing camera for the money and as a Lumix S5ii owner, Lumix better watch out. They are about to charge owners $200 for external prores. The camera only has Long Gop internally too. The X-S20 is an absolute powerhouse, ticking almost every box. I had a feeling fuji would do this when the other "entry level" cameras were discontinued. Minor Grips No WR Only 2.6mp viewfinder 8fps mechanical shutter 1/4000 max mechanical shutter Other than that, its superb and I pre-ordered as I so miss my X-S10 after selling it. I may even ditch my Z-V1 Great video as always!
Interesting that you use an S5ii and also consider this camera... Would love to know why? Also, how do you find handling 2 different systems? I'm an XT4 user but thinking of buying a second body so I can use 2 different lenses at events quickly and as a backup. Strongly considering the S5ii as the IBIS for handheld video on XT4 is awful at times. Would be worried that the X-S20 has the same issues and know the S5ii wouldn't.
@@bsw78 The main reason for the X-S20 is a second fuji body, that is super compact for hiking. I do take my S5ii, but the lenses are heavy! However the S5ii is very sharp for photography and has great dynamic range. Its a shame it lacks All-I for video as this is easier to edit than LonGop too. The X-S20 is smaller, lighter, has better video codec options, plus includes raw via hdmi. The S5 has better stability and in full frame video modes, better dynamic range. I can also vlog better with the much smaller and lighter X-S20, the S5ii is quite heavy! Hope this explains things somwhat
I hope Fujifilm provides a "L" shape charging cable to avoid it blocking the screen. Your reviews are so nice!! When it comes to Fujifilm camera I rush over to your channel.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for this! I've been a Fuji user for years, reluctantly bought the X-S10, with it's adoption of the PASM dial. But, the X-S10 has won me over. With the X-S20's new vlog feature, I think I'm in love!
My X-S20 arrived today. It's better than my X-S10. I bought it because of its convenient small size combined with recent Fuji tech. With the small 35mm f2 lens, it will be a good everyday camera. I have some recent higher-end Fuji cameras but the X-S20 fits nicely into the lineup. My only reservation so far is that I got a heat warning while setting up the camera. That was unexpected. But I switched the heat warning setting from Standard to High and will see how that goes. NOTE that I shoot stills, not video. By the way, the camera was made in Indonesia.
Hi I am interested in your new tests as I have tested a X-S20 during a Fuji X Series tour during 1h taking only photos with no burst and after 30 minutes I got the high temperature warning which scares me. I don't know wether it was settled on standard or high during the test. The temperature outside was 26 Celsius degrees not that high and I have taken almost 200 photos in hour.
Hi pal. U own the X-s10 and love it. I only shoot still and mainly city and landscape. Image quality is my priority. How is this compared to the original?
All your videos are entertaining and very informative. I really liked this one too. Up until this moment, I had planned to buy a used X-T4 for video shooting. The new plan is to get a new X-S20. :D ...if that's a good idea.
Thanks @pal2tech, great quick view into the camera. I love that they really upgraded the auto focus and I love the small size. Do you know if they fixed the double click of the joystick to center the focus point?
One of your best videos. Congrats for getting on the Fuji pre-release list! Now one thing you didn't mention. Video crops? What video settings cause a crop to happen?
I was waiting to see you post about this body! Strong contender, i’ll be looking at either this (X-S20) to be a secondary to my X-H1, or the X-H2 to be primary over the X-H1
This is a very smart move by fuji. I can appreciate the xpro3 was positioned to entice people from the growing popularity of film, but it failed to recognise film shooters want the film, not the camera. Sticking to an optimised digital user base is a smarter move.
Thanks Chris, it was awesome video. consideriing short time you had for testing. However, it would be nice if you could give us a deeper comparison between x-t5 and xs-20, maybe especially about image quality.
This thing sounds really good ! I hope the Sony a6700 comes out with a similar price or i am getting this. I can finally upgrade my a6300 and get usb c without going full frame!
I'm still adjusting to my x-s10 I bought a week ago. Would I have gotten the x-s20 if I have known? Probably not. Budget was one of the biggest things for me, which is why I got my x-s10 for $800 used, 2014 shutter count. I could not afford a new x-s20. However, maybe the prices on used x-s10's would have been better if this came out sooner.
This is a cool little camera. Fujifilm addressed the vlogger community with what appears to be some great features for that use. As an X-T3 user this could be a good next camera if I decide to do video as well as photography. Question: Does anyone make a right angle HDMI cable that won't extend as far out into the LCD when it's facing forward? I'm looking forward to some longer term use reviews of this camera. Could be a good one!
Hi, I'm wondering if you can do a video explaining the different IBIS modes on the X-S20. That would be sweet. Thanks! Always good information from all your videos.
Hi , your insight on Fuji platform is amazing and engaging , I have a question, I have a XS10 and iam not a Vlogger but do u think I should elevate to the next level and buy XS20 , do the new features compliment 19:09
Chris, thanks for that vid, and congrats for joining to the initial testers club, if I can call it like that 🙂 I have a question to you and your audience also. Do you think X-S20 is a good option for beginning content creator or it is better to save a little bit more money and invest for example in X-H2S, which allow user to go a little bit more proffesional when gaining experience with photo and video. I think that FujiFilm packed X-S20 with so many great features, but it is still just a small, amateur and entry level camera. After 1 or 2 years Fuji will probably release X-S30 with stacked sensor and there will be again need for upgrade, but for example X-H2S can easily serve well for the next few years with great performace. I already own X-S10 and X-T3 and just want to know your opinion as professional user whether I should upgrade me X-S10 to X-S20 or go directly to X-H2s. Thanks
I returned one piece to the dealer today. Unfortunately I have a bad experience with overheating of the X-S20, the camera can't take more than 20 photos, then a warning pops up: the camera is close to the standard temperature limit. The overheating occurred repeatedly, even when formatting the card. Too bad, otherwise I really liked the camera!
Hi . Please raise a issue for fujifilm for the xs20 of the problem iam having . The problem is when i customise my menu settings for the video and add items the camera gets freezed for sometime (1 min or so) to get back to another menu page . I cleared my menu items and it runs fine again . Please raise this issue to fujifilm . Thank you very much
Chris, I'm looking forward to your analysis on the real improvement in autofocus with the X-T5 firmware... What do you think? Do you think it is already worth exchanging my X-T2 for the new one? I confess I was quite frustrated that I couldn't use the new app with my camera.
This camera is really underrated. I bought XS20 with XT5 thinking I would keep XT5 but I didn’t see that much more sharpness with 40 mp sensor at all….at least with kit lens. I’m glad I stuck with XS20. I also just brought Z6 III with 24-120 4S lens thinking it would be a lot sharper and nicer to use…I returned that thing…pain in the ass to use and IQ wasn’t that great.
Thanks Chris. The thing I'm most interested in is the IBIS so disappointed you didn't have time to test it. I'm sick of the XT4 wobbly images with wide angle lenses with movement and the way the IBIS constantly fights movement, creating jerks in the video. I've switched it off now. It's easier to correct hand shake in post. 😢 Wonder if the X-S20 has improved on this?
Fantastic review, especially given the time constraint with the product. A lot to like here! I notice it does Blackmagic raw, too, like the other 5th gen cameras and for me, this is a compelling reason to replace my X-T4 here in the studio as a desk cam. That way my X-T4 can go dedicated photo-only mode! That also has the annoyance of the cables blocking the screen and right-angle cables have helped there. Would be nice to see someone come out with a combined micro-HDMI & usb-c mini "block" that seals the area (rip off those silly excuses for doors!) and routes the ports to the top or bottom!
NOTE: I said "X-S10" once or twice when I meant to say "X-S20". That's what happens when you edit all night (for two nights straight)! But any reference to new features I mention obviously has to do with the X-S20! Cheers! 👍

Looks like the perfect "entry level" GOAT camera in the APSC segment. Wow. Really nice.
Great job, especially considering the short time you had with the camera. Appreciate the time and effort you put into this.
Thanks for the awesome run through on this new camera! I’m sold. You made everything so clear 😊 Mega helpful video 👏👏👏
Very well done. I just got my Fujifilm X-S20 camera, so very informative and for the first time I'm subscribing. Blessings!
How is it?
Best video about X-S20 so far. This camera has killed the panasonic s5ii hype. The 4k 60p is without crop, isnt it?
I think there is 1.18 crop in 4k 60p
This is really great information, more than what was presented at the X Summit. I am eagerly awaiting the Xapp. Did notice Fuji commented to make sure to update your firmware in the camera BEFORE the Xapp, and sure enough, it is in their firmware page.
The XApp is out my guy.
Minor Grips
No WR
Only 2.6mp viewfinder
8fps mechanical shutter
1/4000 max mechanical shutter
Other than that, its superb and I pre-ordered as I so miss my X-S10 after selling it. I may even ditch my Z-V1
Great video as always!
Really excellent content. Informative, concise, to the point, and so enjoyable
as always... extra precise and complete
This is an instant buy for me.
Hi pal. U own the X-s10 and love it. I only shoot still and mainly city and landscape. Image quality is my priority. How is this compared to the original?
Focus priority is a boom feature
Definitely will be updating from my x-s10!
Great video Chris! This thing is a little beast!
Brandon!! Thanks man. As usual, I'm only 3 months behind on seeing my YT comments. LOL, great to have you here man and all the best to you! 🙏
Definitely the fuji camera I was looking for (my needs/usage) . Tks for the video and thanks Fuji.
All your videos are entertaining and very informative. I really liked this one too.
Up until this moment, I had planned to buy a used X-T4 for video shooting. The new plan is to get a new X-S20. :D
...if that's a good idea.
Perfect idea
Those AF updates are available via firmware update for XT5, H2, and H2S. I can tell you it is a noticeable improvement.
At 2:05 you accidentally said xs10 instead of xs20.
nice video btw, live your content :)
I just ordered the ZV-E10 as camera for my beginner hobby but I guess, I’m gonna return it to get this XS20
Oh my... This sounds like a fun one!
I was waiting to see you post about this body!
Strong contender, i’ll be looking at either this (X-S20) to be a secondary to my X-H1, or the X-H2 to be primary over the X-H1
thank you so so much for a very informative review!!
This is a very smart move by fuji. I can appreciate the xpro3 was positioned to entice people from the growing popularity of film, but it failed to recognise film shooters want the film, not the camera. Sticking to an optimised digital user base is a smarter move.
looks like a great camera
Thanks Chris, it was awesome video. consideriing short time you had for testing. However, it would be nice if you could give us a deeper comparison between x-t5 and xs-20, maybe especially about image quality.
Stanley Kubrick would be impressed by this review. Well done, thanks for posting.🎉👌
Great review! How does the autofocus compares to sonys and canons autofocus? Have always loved fujis cameras but the AF has left a lot wish for
Im getting this camera 100%
This thing sounds really good ! I hope the Sony a6700 comes out with a similar price or i am getting this. I can finally upgrade my a6300 and get usb c without going full frame!
I'm still adjusting to my x-s10 I bought a week ago. Would I have gotten the x-s20 if I have known? Probably not. Budget was one of the biggest things for me, which is why I got my x-s10 for $800 used, 2014 shutter count. I could not afford a new x-s20. However, maybe the prices on used x-s10's would have been better if this came out sooner.
Hope you can do more videos about this camera!
Great review Chris. Will you also do a video on the updated Fuji X-app?
Thanks. And yes, 100%
Hi, I'm wondering if you can do a video explaining the different IBIS modes on the X-S20. That would be sweet. Thanks! Always good information from all your videos.
Thanks for the great content. What lens would you pair with this for video,
This is brilliant!!! I love the effectivity and timing on this video!
Super video, looks like a super camera. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks
Excellent review with no wasting time. Thank you!
Does the X-S20 have tracking autofocus in video? The X-S10 could only do face/eye tracking...which wasn't good enough to be reliable.
Awesome review! Great new camera-upgrade to the X-S10 Fujifilm
As always nice content sir..likes from india to you and Fujifilm.
Looking for a backup camera for my X-H2s, this looks perfect.
Very good video. Thanks a lot 🙏👍👍👍
Thank you for your video, as always. New XApp is so much better than camera remote, finally!)
Wow, 4k 60p direct to the computer. That's a winner for streamers. (Even if 1080p should be enough).
So i just got the XT-5 is there a big difference except from the megapixels? Kinda want something cheaper
What a fantastic little camera.
How does it compare to the canon r10 or r7
I returned one piece to the dealer today. Unfortunately I have a bad experience with overheating of the X-S20, the camera can't take more than 20 photos, then a warning pops up: the camera is close to the standard temperature limit. The overheating occurred repeatedly, even when formatting the card. Too bad, otherwise I really liked the camera!
Does it charge when we live stream via USB?
Wonder if the X-S20 has improved on this?
Great job as always, Chris. Thank you.
I just loved its specifications!❤️
You could get a right angle cable to help with not blocking the screen
