This is really the best tutorial I ever got. I wish I had seen it 6 months back. I have almost 3000 plants in my plantation and the production suffered. I hope with this tips, I can make it better this time. Thank you very much.
So cool! In Virginia and I have a rack of bananas on my 3 year old . People have stopped by in awe ! For me i have always cut off yellow or brown leaves just cuz they don’t look pretty on my girl ! Here i learned I was giving her energy by keeping those leaves off ! So cool
AMAZING TIPS THAT I'VE NEVER KNOWN BEFORE, THANKS SO MUCH, I WILL TRY TO USE THESE TIPS FOR MY BANANA GARDEN. I'M FROM VN BY THE WAY! BRILLIANT TUTORIAL!!!
I like the blade that you attached to the stick. It certainly is a solution to reaching those far off leaves. I will try to copy and diy that device. 😍
Also, u an use the small leaves from the suckers as a plate in your home. It makes every meal so much more delicious. And then u can throw the leaf plate back inside the ground where it will decompose and give more energy to the soil.
This was really helpful. I just bought a house in Texas that already has a large banana plant in the backyard, I absolutely love it, but I am from a cold weather climate and have no clue how to care for tropical plants. Most of the videos I am finding show people caring for small banana plants, but mine is about 15ft tall, and I didn’t find the videos on how to care for small plants very helpful.
+Eco Oasis That disease that grows no the leaves, can that effect birds of paradise? It looks just like what's on mine. If so, other than just cutting it off, is there anything I can do to treat it? Would neem oil work? Thanks
Great video Steve! One tip I forgot to mention, but we show in the video, is to also cut the purple flower that grows at the bottom of the stem. This will also help to move more energy into the bananas.
Brendon McKeon Really?? I have been told multiple times not to cut the flower? Different reasons why, some say the flower produces energy itself, some say it help produce sugar and the banana will not be as sweet and other reasons, but this is the first piece of advice i have heard saying remove the flowers to give the fruit energy.
In on my second year as the main one has hardly any leaves but theres 8 banana ie the heat killed them and i have a bunch of. Smaller trees r Growing next to it you gave me good advice as im very new at this
Your instructions are very clear on how to grow and care for banana trees. This is my second harvest with about ten combs. My backyard is not big in a terrace house. Now I can cut down the little pups, leaving just two to grow. Thank you so very much from Malaysia. 🤗
We are a 1/2 acre food forest in Southern California and we are bringing food forest awareness to our community. People are getting excited about it! Thanks for your tips on banana and ginger growing! All the best to your team :)
Thank you for the easy to understand tips. My tree refuses to grow more than 3 feet. Dies off slowly after that. But the babies continue to grow and then the same thing happens. Will try to keep your tips in mind. Thank you.
Thanks a Zillion SIFU Yr tips are extremely useful as l have a number of banana trees yet frequently buy bananas as trees barren l have a lot of compost l will apply as per Ur advice
Beautiful bananas, Brendon! When you prune the plants, do you just chop and drop everything onto the forest floor or is it removed and composted or discarded?
OneYardRevolution | Frugal & Sustainable Organic Gardening We just mulch the trees with it. Some say it is better to remove the diseased leaves from the system but we find that good management on a regular basis works great without having to haul everything out.
Like all living things Bananas need love and attention. It's true that they are one of the most resilient and easy to grow plants on our farm and would surely give us fruit with almost no input, but they really thrive when we give them the proper care. The increase in return you get from a small amount of input is amazing. Healthy plants also resist insect damage and disease so it is important to make sure your plants stay healthy by giving them the proper nutrition and care. Follow these easy tips in this video and you will be rewarded with strong, long living Banana plants. Thanks for watching and please help us continue to spread Permaculture across the planet and don't forget to Like, Subscribe and Share with your friends.
I live in cassadaga new York we have snow but i plan on bringing my guys under grow lights for the winter than bring them back outside spring time I realize my varieties can be over wintered in the ground but prefer to have them in pots anyhow do bananas need to go dormant great video by the way
Suggestion: at 01:12 of the video where you are talking about leaf cleaning - I'd recommend to keep the old brown drooping leaves on the plant. Starting with the premise that Nature knows what she is doing, sjhe must have a good purpose for the old hanging banana leaves. That purpose is to keep the stalk shaded from direct sun. The banana flower is working its way up the stalk, and Nature wants to keep the trunk shaded, keeping the developing flower cooler.
I ‘m a home grower here in Florida. I have 3 trees in my backyard. I’ve been trying to grow bananas on my 10 -11 ‘ trees for a couple of seasons now. I am going to try your growing tips. I have found all the fertilizers you recommend. The only thing I don’t know how to do is make the NPK spray, could you please give me some advice on how to accomplish that. I’m so determined to successfully grow bananas. Your trees and fruit are amazing. Any advice on making the NPK spray would be truly appreciated. Thank you!
Hello Margaret, you can use organic NPK ( Nitrogen, Phosphorous, (K)Potassium) solution. Buy it in small bottle because once you open it you have to use it all.
thank you for that segment. I have always wanted to grow bananas. Now I know I at least need 1 acre Provo. Because if I do it in my backyard at my house in the city it was just over overwhelm my backyard so I should plant on some acreage cuz eventually they will get out of hand and the more banana plants the better opportunity of bananas succeeding thank you again

Great video. Another way is to remove the flower once you see the hand of bananas becoming smaller. They never grow to full size if left on.
Great video Steve! One tip I forgot to mention, but we show in the video, is to also cut the purple flower that grows at the bottom of the stem. This will also help to move more energy into the bananas.

people don't cut those purple flowers because humming birds are very fond of them.
@@Nelson4207 I really wish I could get a straight answer with this,, to cut or not to cut!!?!?
@@SlinkyDrinky Personally,l don't cut and my bananas are much sweeter than those bought in the market.
