So crazy.. I’m actually in your banana group on Facebook and I just yesterday discovered your UA-cam channel lol. I love the content and I will be ransacking all your videos for the knowledge. Thank you for taking the time to share your tips and knowledge. 🙌🏼 I’m 35 in tarpon Springs and I have about 42 fruit trees. I have 7 banana trees.
Thank you for the very educational video. I had no idea. We have finger bananas growing right now and my wife wanted to cut the flower off to cook. I told her to wait till all the bananas are ripe and ready to be harvested before cutting the flower.
Makes sense to leave it on. Don’t know why anyone would want to risk it as it serves no purpose and you risk losing a rack after all the time getting the banana to even produce bananas
Because I can make amazing dishes out of the banana flower. It's a delicacy in SE Asian cuisine - ask any Indian, Vietnamese, or other people who know the taste and how to cook it.
My first attempt to grow bananas was met with great success. I have two lovely racks of lady finger bananas almost ready to go. I did however remove the flowers early and made sure there were a nice sets of hands before I removed it. I'll try leaving the flowers on next year but all and all, a great result. I noticed fruit bats were attracted to the sent of the flower. This was another reason I removed them. Since then no flying foxes. Happy days.
I've got a banana rack for the first time here in SC! So excited. One thing that might be happening if you remove the flower bud too soon is that the stalk bleeds out and the rack is lost due to the moisture loss. I know when I trim my banana leaves, the water just pours out of the stem left on the tree. Just a guess. I'm going to leave mine as is and not remove it. great video! Thanks!
Thank you for sharing. From land-scarce Singapore. Here the local minorities have a dish made from the banana flower, so it's almost always cut off. I have 2 flowers now and will leave them on. I cut off a previous flower and the rack was OK.
Hello great video. Question I have bananas that just started budding two separate racks on two trees. The temperatures will dip to low 40s. What should I do? I need help. First time grower here.
Sam, I noticed one of my flowers is getting mildewy. I’m not sure if it is not getting enough sun because I have another tree in front of it and my house behind it or what. Any thoughts on what I should do? Also my bananas never mature. Anything to help them plump up?
Thank you for your … very detailed recommendations. I’ll leave it to the Mother Nature takes its course. My banana tree is about 15’ heights and it’s blossom now.
Omg what a inspiring talk from you about banana horticulture. Your blood needs bottling. I wasn't sure if to remove the heavy flower . But now my mind is made not to !❤
Hi sorry, I do not know which Bananas are more nutritious than the Cavendish or over the others. however I do know that the Orinoco burro banana, like Namwa, etc, do not brown when you freeze them, but the Cavendish, Grand Naine, and others do brown when you freeze them. also, the Cavendish, Grand Naine does not freeze and get as hard as some others do.
Thanks a lot for your time n energy making the videos n replying to your viewers!! May we all eat as natural n healthy as possible with the help of your videos!!
All due respect- From my understanding, cutting the flower, or bud, gives more energy to the fruit. We know this because every commercial grower in Guatemala cuts them off, and most of your bananas come from here!
online everyone reads other's opinions, however, a study posted by Musa reflected that removing or leaving the bud on has no noticeable growth effect however it also stated what I have seen from many members of my Banana group, is that there is a chance of fungal diseases. So I play it safe, and recommend that others do the same. Thanks for your opinion.

Thanks for your input. they are doing fine and I will post the harvesting video if we do not get a freeze.
I should add that when I see some bud peddles not falling off I help them out some. Thanks for looking out for me :-)

Banana plants that evolved in the wild were never trimmed by man yet they produced ripe bananas for animals to eat and spread seeds.

Hi Sam, thanks for your videos... I think cutting the bud will reduce the amount of time to get the bananas big n ripe...
sorry but that is not true.
Okay, thank you for the lesson... I think the burro banana is the more nutritious than the cavendish. Any idea about that.

Why not add some organic fungicide paste to the cut portion? @@TheFrugalHugelGardener
Why are there so many male flowers vs female flowers?
