Genuinely love your writing and delivery, and it’s been such a… pardon the expression… ray of sunshine to hear the energy and enthusiasm in you as you make these videos after the old Dead Rising grind ground you down. Wishing nothing but the best for you, while also attempting to devise some sort of Dark Souls 2 run concept just to torture you
The trick to making Shrine of Amana (and honestly most DaS2 areas) not awful is to have an upgraded Bow/Crossbow. Contrary to every other Souls game, ranged weapons are super strong, and the hoards of enemies mean cross-map thinning the herd is very useful.
That'll work for the casual/platinum but its completely out for every challenge (except Archery Only). I'm gonna try and keep an open mind but its gonna be really hard to change a decade of hatred.
You said "The Unofficial Series" with regard to the "Souls" games, and that got me thinking something devious. How familiar are you with From's old games? Particularly King's Field and Evergrace. There's Souls DNA in pretty much everything they made beforehand, even Armoured Core and Otogi (maybe even especially Armoured Core), but the *really* Souls games I think are King's Field and Evergrace. They're both about being a western knight type of guy fighting weird monsters in a dying dreamscape world by collecting piles of esoteric stuff which you equip to yourself like a robot swapping out modular parts. Lots of completionist potential, and unofficial 'Souls' spirit. Also in particular I think that Evergrace and its sequel are two of the most beautiful games ever made with particularly cruel and weird completionist stuff going on. If King's Field is the predecessor to Dark Souls, Evergrace is the predecessor to Dark Souls 2 (I'm one of those guys, I might like 2 more). Just saying, if you *were* to do a buster video on Evergrace, you'd be the first. And it's perhaps well suited to this. A few people have tried to be *the guy* uncovering Evergrace for the people, but nobody can pitch it to youtube right. There's an angle here, and if you feel like suffering Evergrace is there, gathering dust in From's backlog. Also since I'm already probing, as for Dead Rising, have you played Shadow of Rome, Breath of Fire IV, or Vampire Panic? That game also has older brothers that went by other names (SoR and BoFIV staff worked on DR, while I think VP was just an inspiration or coincidental resemblance). Both of these games have lots of stuff to do and are interesting. And I'm kind of just curious if you know them even if you don't care to play them. Anyway I've been really enjoying the stuff you've been making lately. These videos are really cool. I genuinely think you're the best of these *old games explorer challenge* guys on youtube. Also you clearly have some rather cool taste, and I *am* trying to suggest things in line with that. I'm not just trying to be a dickhead pitching random obscure garbage at you. If you appreciate Chrono Cross and Drakengard, Evergrace might just make sense to you. Also I just saw some Vampire Rain footage in your games we'll never see video. Very funny because I actually have a playthrough of that recorded and intend to make my own video. Maybe we're quite different, but I'd be interested in knowing what you think of these older games.
I've played a lot of fromsoft. I've dabbled in Kings Field, Shadowtower, and Eternal Ring. I'm not a huge fan of the first person perspective so I probablly won't be playing them any time soon. I've also played a lot of armored core, up to 4 at least. The only thing I know about evergrace is that one meme song. Shadow of rome, no, Breath of Fire 4, yes but I didnt get that far. Vampire Panic no. Vampire Rain is just a totally mediocre strictly-enforced stealth game. It absolutely does not deserve its notoriously bad status. The cutscenes are great thouguh.
@@BacklogBuster Fair enough about the first person games. They're quite different, very much their own thing. I ask about Evergrace because it's kind of the 'Drakengard' of From games. The memes about it are backwards and silly (the music is beautiful), it's very simple but bizarre in how it handles, it has a strange, perhaps unfinished quality to it that leaves it with these eccentric, dreamlike gaps in its logic, and it makes a very strong impression on a certain kind of person. And it has lots of weird obtuse weapon collecting. If you love Dead Rising you'll probably love Shadow of Rome, very easy to play game. I know a guy who has done 100% of the stuff in it, it does have room for that kind of play. And Vampire Rain fascinates me because it's a very competent game with neat ideas made by talented people which just rubbed western sensibilities and moods of the era completely the wrong way. Mediocre isn't the word that I'd use but I appreciate that you more or less *get it*.
my best piece of advice for helping with dark souls 2 is just taking it slowly and for the love of god use a bow (when available) just being able to snipe the enemies before they are in any kind of threat range really does make it much better. i use the dragonrider bow as a basic strength /int bow and you can use any of them as a dex bow really.
It does on Easy and Normal. On Hard mode you're permanently locked at level Die. I'm pretty sure you have to unlock it first. God Hands really good, but that'd be a rough challenge.
Good luck with Dark Souls 2. Played both versions and both have bad and good sides - both are worth trying if you have time... gotta agree that some locations are not great. Even though I can deal with them it still bad on the another playthroughs. Also good luck with grind for Drakengard ending - it's absolutely grueling and QTE is insane.

God, that comment about probably playing a little smt on an emulator at some point was so accurate for my early teenage years

I honestly can't wait for the Taro games arc.

@@BacklogBusterI actually just finished a melee only/estus o ly playthrough and the shrine wasnt that bad.
The trick to dark souls 2 is to smash the disc before you put it in your tray
@@FlanMesh Then ya be missing playing Best Souls 2 😉

Because you're absolute jolly to watch

The Ultimate Impossible Backlog Buster Challenge, would be beating God Hand on the hardest difficulty
The bestest, rawest pain ever to be known
