It’s so true that 3 betting with hands like ace 9 to ace 5 in sb or bb will lose you money in mircostakes as this is were I was spewing my chips in tournaments. Now I just call with hands like king queen and king jack ect and am making more final tables. Things like Pioslover don,t really work in low stakes but are good to learn though in case you move to high stakes one day.
Yes same for myself after seeing many YT "coaches" advising to 3bet aggressively from the blinds and balance the value with low suited connectors and the suited Aces,well all that happens is they dont fold and youre on the flop oop with rubbish,you rarely make a decent hand and end up making some stupid cbet bluff because of theoretical "range advantage",but your are just bloating up the pot for the QTo or whatever crap that managed to hit.
The same with other GTO stuff like bluffing and bluffcatching,Ive wasted so much money after checking down to the river as the pfr and calling with a low pair or AK/Q,90% of the time i was beat and i only bluff now with decent draws on the flop or turn,rarely on river.
Sounds real boring and it is,but my results have vastly improved,let them spew off the money into you when they make the bluffcatches with 3rd pair after youve barrelled TP or better.
Good to see Bencb understands the reality of poker,I think a lot of these coaches may not even play much at all and just blindly follow pio

It's also great to study game theory even if you never plan to move up to higher stakes. This is so that you understand what is optimal in certain spots and can then compare that to how the population at those stakes generally plays. Usually there will be a huge gap or leak that you will be able to take advantage of, or exploit.

@@lightonstillwaters6789 tournaments are softer, GG poker, Partypoker and pokerstars are the best three I know of that a Canadian can play on (in that order)
HUDs will only work on pokerstars out of those three, yes it is good to use a HUD if you can afford to spend the money, pokertracker and holdem manager both have free trials, it's really personal preference, they are both good.
You won't have to worry about collusion in low stakes MTT's

Thanks again Ben, Very plain and simple steps. I feel pretty good that I have worked on the first couple of steps very early in my play /study . My biggest issue is consistent commitment. Being able to watch these videos helps to relight the motivational fire. It is refreshing to hear a successful poker pro retain a little humility. I agree with your idea of watching live play videos to learn useful things not just to watch a sick bluff in a high stakes final table

This is the first tutorial I have come across that says me playing a little tight in tournaments is alright. That is where I'm most comfortable. If I can develop a tight image early, it helps with my bluffs later. I was checking out another channel and basically got laughed out of their chat for even mentioning playing tight. It's been my experience in the $200-$1500 buy-in range playing tight/solid and then let other players make their mistakes has brought moderate/decent success. I would love to build on that and enhance my game though. Thumbs up RYE👍

What I noticed about equity training is it's only effective if you can reliably put your opponent on a range, which is something most beginners cannot do. Is there a point to equity against LAG players?

Not that I disagreeing with what has been said in the video, but if taking critical point of view I'd question whether your advice for new players on lower stakes is already what many of them are doing, i.e. folding to any agression post-flop and then when they finally get what they presume a strong hand they end up losing to even stronger hand (sets, two pairs, etc.) or everyone folds back to them, and main problem because they don't understand how board texture interracts with different ranges, e.g. if they bet big into static board which is bad for opponent range they only get called by better hands (e.g. sets), etc.

Very informative, keep em coming. I disagree on what you say about not having 3betting bluffs like suited connectors in micro/low stakes especially when deepstacked. U will rarely see people showing down 87s after 3betting and just because of that it can be exploited. Plus, if u get caught showing down 87s they think you're nuts, and you can use that to ur advantage.
I think its ok to do it once in a while v button raises,but not at the frequency pio would recommend.It is nice to 3bet 87s and win a nice pot with it though;-) You can imagine the other guy cursing you out and taking notes that you are "maniacal,never fold against this nut" lol
what ben wanted to say that in micro and low stakes the population will not be folding some hands that in high stakes will not be considering playing out of position so ur fold equity is negligible, therefore its better to avoid them since they will not bring to much value.

hey man! I really enjoy your content. I am a newer player and learning exactly the stuff you reviewed in this video. I really like how simple you keep it for people like me. One thing that always confuses me is when a pro or high stakes reviews a hand and on the river they talk about the opponents range of hands and most times the actual river card isn't relevant for their hand? Ex: In the hand you went over on this video with the Q on the river, you didn't put QQ in their range. Why is that?
I think it's because we should expect a 3-bet preflop with that kind of hand.

@@bb-zt8ve At microstakes this shove is never a bluff on the river. Higher stakes they are capable of bluffing with hands with card removal (it wasn't a random bluff, it was based on the cards he was holding) - because he had Q8 he blocked both Q's and 8's and therefore less chance bencb had a boat - and so he was repping a boat himself

Confused: I understand facing a pot size bet, we're getting 2:1, so need to be right 33%. So when making a pot size bet into our opponent, why does it need to work 50% of the time and not need to work only 33% of the time?
If you bet 50$ into 50$.
You risk 50$ to win 50$, thus it needs to work 50% of the time.
If your opponents bets 50 into 50 and you need to call, then its different because the pot is bigger and you invest 50$ to win 100$, so you need to win every 3rd time to break even, ergo 33%.

have you notice that many many times a 50-100bb pre flop jam is AKo/AKs (with fun players)
few months ago i decided that i am calling all big 4bet shove with a pair bigger than 99. i have now 38 times. run against:
2 aces
4 kings
2 Queens
1 Jacks
1 TT
1 55...
1 AQo
3 AQs
8 AKs
15 AKo
it is a small sample but i think that recreational players wants to "end" action with AK and with pot odds after 3bet you have almost always have a clear call with a pair...
can you get a more big sample from your HUD or one of group member HUD?
it may solve the Q about calling with JJ
you put AK shove and QQ/JJ shove the same but i think population tendency will be to shove AK to kill the action and take to the flop QQ/JJ. specially OOP

Population tendency toward shoving AK (s) these days stems from the fact that it blocks AA and KK, therefore making it much more likely they're up against a lower pair, which makes for a flip. Also, in such cases they may hope they get lucky and get called by AQ (s) or MAYBE AJs and be a huge favourite. Anyway... in none of those cases are they a huge underdog.
Now, take the scenario with pairs like JJ and QQ, however pretty they look pre, if the action goes 2bet 3 bet 4 bet... then what hands are THESE pairs up against?
Your not holding a K, so KK is possible..... youre not holding an A, so AA is possible.....
NOT a great spot to be in.
But i agree.... a huge AI shove is not preferrable by better players.
It may well be that players all the way up to .50c-$1 feel insecure enough about their own quality of preflop play that a shove just 'ends' all the potentially tough future decisions in the hand.

the squeeze sizing with JJ at 14:00 is not too small against 2 players?
Bigger wouldnt be a mistake either. Our range is quite strong from that position and against 2 regs it should provide significant fold equity already.
A big problem I have is that my assumptions about villain ranges are almost always different than the assumptions of you or other good players. How would I practice that?
For example regarding the KcTd hand where you got check raised by Q8s:
I would think that he 3bets most of his 55 and 88 considering it's BU vs. SB and he is OOP.
I would have also given him slowplayed Aces and 85s (hearts and spades).
Why would you think he 3bets 55 and 88 and calls AA ? This would be reversed poker. The best hands win pots not the weakest hands.
@@RaiseYourEdge My thought process is:
55 and 88 have pretty good equity vs. BU opening range, but low pairs are hard to play post flop, especially out of position, because their equity realization is bad. Thus it is easier to realize your equity by playing them aggressively preflop vs. such a weak range.
And Aces could be slowplayed occasionally to hide your strength and get a lot of value out of hands like KQ, QJ, KT if villain hits a top pair.
@@raziel8799 the hands that are hard to play postflop prefer calling and those who play well postflop prefer 3 betting.

Hey Guys. I got a question to the RYE 6max hyper SNG course. Is it possivle to apply this course to full ring turbo sngs?
Maybe someone can help me out? I’m in NJ and play WSOP. Played home games growing up but never casino or online. I’ve been studying for a month or two but because my fish stats and notes from the way I started out I get exploited even when playing correctly. Ex: my 3bet called by bad hands or get hero called always. Is there a way to reset or a different site I can use to kind of restart
Use it against them!!!! If they call you with bad hands it's an advantage for you. If i have to guess the main problem is your ego( happned to me too). Don't switch sites because of your ego, use it against them.

If you are getting 3bets called by bad hands that’s good for you if you only 3bet the value hands.As bencb says don’t do it with suited connectors,ace low x.
If you’re getting hero called when bluffed a lot then stop bluffing,especially on rivers!
You’re being exploited because you’re trying to bluff/outplay people that will not fold even 2nd pair.
Just bet your value hands and the odd high equity bluff on flop/turn

You can't use it while playing but it is a good tool to review your hands/ Preflop decision

Hi and thank you for the video. Wanted to point out about the K10o hand. You missed a few combos imho. Opp can have A5o(not only suited), and also, Q5 suited, also some 5-8 suited on the rare side (imho low hand to def the blinds with). But most importanly you have to understand his thinking and play with those hands, how often and is it more profitable to bluff catch or to donk on the river with nutted hands. Also in my view you bet sizing on the river goes for i have it spot, rather then a bluffy i dont have it. But all and all, your opp played poorly here.
He flat from the SB, he doesnt have A5o and Q5s and 85s.

Hi, Party Poker doesn't allow the use of HUDS, so I think its impossible to export your hands for analyses. I think its a trend quite a few Poker sites are adopting, such as GSPoker.

I made all in because i have more than 75% of winning ant the guy beats me with 2 pair!!!! This is surreall. Of course this episodes are common in the pokerstars because the sistem choose who will be the winner. Or there are hackers on that website
