Tunel assay apoptosis

the double stranded break we are talking about may not be due to apoptosis necessarily, it may be due to some other reason.. then how can we definitively sy that it is apoptosis going on based on TUNEL assay only??

Bt i have one question,
Why there is a need to identify an apoptotic undergoing cells???
Why it is needed

We need to detect such condition(apoptosis) when we want to clarify the apoptosis of neurones in case of neurodegenerative disorder like AD,PD Etc. whether neurones are undergoing apoptosis or not..

Why doesn't the Tunel technique work to mark cells in necrosis?
I mean, how am I sure they've only marked cells in apoptosis?
