I comment rarely, but when deserved I believe in complimenting. I have watched many of your videos and have enjoyed them. You are a very talented builder but also a true thinker in your craft. I wish you many years of success and more importantly happiness.
Nothing wrong with overkill. You got into the shop, built something useful, taught us several designs/techniques that could apply to enginerding problems we may face in the future....thank you
I like your approach to solutions. I knew a German electrician who was also one of the best joiners and fitters that I ever worked with - he always had a methodical and well-thought-out but simple and elegant way to accomplish problem solving.
I always love seeing your ideas and your problem. Solving when things go wrong. Leaving in the mistakes gives people who watch the channel the confidence to give it a go. Most diy videos on you tube seem to perfect to be achievable for most diy'ers
It’s nice to see that you do not edit out your mistakes and show us the “reality” of woodworking which almost always requires some sort of fixing the mistakes. You must be a very patient person to constantly deal with having to navigate around the small shop space without getting frustrated. Keep up the good work!
I'd love to see an update video on the all-in-one workbench. Just a walkaround talking about all the different features and specifically what things worked well, what things can be improved, etc. That would be most helpful to those of us who want to do something similar to what you have done! Thanks for the videos, I've just recently discovered you and I'm enjoying your content!
I enjoy watching you take what most people would consider a ridiculously small shop and making it work in such a creative and flexible manner. I also enjoy watching you engineer and problem solve each innovation. In this video, the use of the bearing wheel to prevent undesired forward movement of your slides/power outlet device was brilliant!
I love how you explain the problems you faced and how you overcame them. The bearing to counter the slide play towards the end was brilliant! Keep it up! :)
Brilliant, really clever solution and loved the fact that you’re not afraid to show “developments” we all go through but few youtubers ever show or admit too.👍
This would be my absolute dream build everything a home diy guy needs plus more amazing ingenuity for whole station I've just watched the whole build and found myself saying wow multiple times if only I had a garage or workspace to store it in the kids playhouse trumps a workshop at this present time
There's no such thing as overkill. Put a coffee maker in there, maybe a wireless charger in the drawer for your phone and some LEDs that go off when it rings just in case you're running one of the power tools when it goes off lol
Of course it’s overkill. That doesn’t make it less cool. That was a very well thought out design and certainly more elegant that just screwing a surge protector to the side of your bench. Let’s face it...we’re woodworkers because we like making interesting things out of wood. If not we could have bought most of our designs cheaper and quicker on Amazon. Great video.
Love it!! There's always something different and unique in your vids. Not just the same old videos or epoxy river tables concrete counter tops or standard workshop cabinets. It's a breath of fresh air! Keep it up 👍👍
Man, you have crazy problem-solving skills, I love watching your projects. I have watched from the beginning of the table build and the way you talk to use and explain is superb. Thank you
Great tip on the under mounted routing guides. Cool mechanism. I like your way to address the challenges. Your bench is continuing to show its versatility and adaptability. Nice job sir. Greetings from California, USA 🇺🇸.
I'm going to be building my new workshop soon (moved to new house) and these videos have given me a load of great ideas. Having just moved though does bring this to mind - if YOU ever move, the removal company are going to take one look at that work bench and charge you a small fortune to move it lol. Still - good engineering and planning.
One must give ones his or her do. Great job. On the other hand, simple is an overstatement of the truth. Keep it simple stupid or KISS is how I try to do everything. We all try to show off and you tube is one place where that works well. I know you know what you are doing and I congradulate for that. Have a great day Some of the other comments has hit the nail on the head.
I love this series. I just bought a new table saw and I will surely build something similar to your workbench later on. Thanks for making these videos!
Love it! I’d always considered only wall or ceiling mounted. But ceiling and convenient for me = head injury for most people; or safe for all and inconvenient if you’re short. Now my brain is buzzing with all kinds of pop-up solutions!
Absolutely overkilled and absolutely necessary and lovely at the same time! I think of making the cover as a integral part of the multiplug sledge, whitout hinges. With something at the bottom of the entire complex like a Push Latch (as the ones used for cabinet doors), maybe released only by button whit a rod an not by pressing on the whole cover (to not have the multiplug popping up when you are working with heavy stuff).
Hi Jean, awesome channel man. Did you consider a vertical drawer design? The face of the drawer could sit flush with the bench and pop up with the sliding mechanism. No hinges needed. Your videos motivated me to make my own workbench. Keep it up!
Nice work chap. I would have gone for an overhead solution or plug point on the side of the bench, but that aside I like how you tackle problems. Keep the videos coming boetjie.
I think yours is the best work station ever and just when I thought it couldn't get any better... You should make a start to finish video but you haven't finished!
Completely overkill, but LOVE IT..... well done John!

Great idea! Only 1 thing I would've added. A dust cover or lid over the plugs, to prevent wood dust from getting in and potentially starting a fire. Even a blank plug would suffice to keep the unused plugs closed.
I think it's a great design. I do not think it's overkill (you can never get too much overkill), because it all depends on who's using the workbench. Some people would not need it, others would. Some people will need a completely flat tabletop, others would need a space-saving workbench. Your solution helps preventing sawdust getting into the outlet. As for myself, I use battery-powered tools, because I hate when the cables get in the way and I find myself completely entangled in cables and wires (or when the circular saw / jigsaw cut the power cable). ;) I also find some clever suggestions below - I find the drawer solution brilliant and it might be easier to implement. You've got me thinking - maybe I'll need some kind of power solution other than just mounting a power strip to the workbench. Please keep up the good work; your videos are very inspiring.
awesome. not overkill, puts socket where you want it and with a tweak completely dust free. add some sockets blocks and you have the perfect of both worlds. i myself will copy the idea but put the slides on the sides to take the load. great idea thanks again. take care. pete. ps go bokke
I love your work, well thought out, and your work bench is fantastic! I have a small garage, and it is hard to find anything, this would be a a great project to build for my husband work bench. Thanks for sharing
Brilliant! Maybe done the hard way, but just brilliant! I have my power outlet block hanging from a ceiling beam. Not pretty, but easier to build for now. I’ll try my hand at your recessed power drawer later - it looks very slick!
Sweet upgrade! I discovered your videos when searching for ideas for my own small workshop optimisation series that i'm going to make. you have lots of good tips and tricks in here
I would have mounted one or more multiple GFI receptacle(s) arranged where needed under the workbench and mounted on/off switches in front edge of the workbench wherever you have your power tools located for immediate access. This way you could leave all the cords inserted into the multiple GFI receptacle(s) leaving more of the work surface free from trap doors. It would also prevent small wood chips or dust from getting into the receptacles. It still is an ingenious project you have shown.
You sure do have a great work bench! I'm in the process of designing one for myself, I'll be using many of your ideas! Thank you for the cool videos, you have a great channel!
Jean, you've done it again...you just have remarkable engineering skills. Great idea for quick and tidy access to power supply. I am surprised you have squeezed in a spot for a pop up drill press .. lol.
Nice and simple?! You misspoke dude! (A rare slip up for someone who’s language is so precise). However no less awesome. Just discovered this channel and working my way through every video. All just amazing. You are both insane and a genius.
Man, how do you come on these ideas? You told us that you did not know if it would work, so you had to invent it. Fantastic. Baai goed man. Willy from Belgium.
We all work differently. If it makes it more convenient for you, then it was worth doing. I think we all overkill some projects- and that's OK. Thanks for sharing the video
Very clever. Well done. I love the way you think your way past the obstacles. I see someone already commented below and I was wondering if you had an idea for bench dogs. You might have to put a sheet of thin masonite over the top drawer, but that's the best place I can see for them. Also, with the superwood top, it might need a sheet of ply undrneath, for grip. They will definitely stop your small pieces from wondering around.
Hey Jean, what an awesome build. Glad to see plans are out for sale....I am considering a similar style of bench for my one care garage shop. A few questions 1. why mdf for the top, are you worried that it may be too soft? 2. do you have a free copy in pdf? 3. how long has the bench been in use? when should we expect a long term review?
Truly impressive design. Like all your projects it is way over the top and can be improved upon later. Maybe integrating an air line in to it as well to have electrical and pneumatic abilities in one neat easily accessed area.
I comment rarely, but when deserved I believe in complimenting. I have watched many of your videos and have enjoyed them. You are a very talented builder but also a true thinker in your craft. I wish you many years of success and more importantly happiness.
The way that comes up through the bench is beautiful. Not overkill at all, its brilliant.
Nothing wrong with overkill. You got into the shop, built something useful, taught us several designs/techniques that could apply to enginerding problems we may face in the future....thank you
Another awesome video. Nope, not overkill. Love how you just work out a fix when things haven’t quite worked. Very good problem solving skills 😀

What a work table! Incredible! Watching every video now.
I definitely just commented on another video about wanting to see the power management you'd spoken of, and then I find this video. Love it!
It's EPIC!!!!!! I just watched all 9 videos in one go
Brilliant, really clever solution and loved the fact that you’re not afraid to show “developments” we all go through but few youtubers ever show or admit too.👍

Anybody can screw a power strip to a workbench, love the complexity of it AWESOME JOB!
Very cool solution! Those under-counter plugs are so expensive. Great DIY alternative. Lekker to see great woodworking content from a local oke 👍

So well put. My thoughts exactly!

I was cracking up with your comment. I couldn't agree more. Epoxy tables bore me. Though some are pretty looking.

I love the belt sander rig. Exactly how i sharpen my mower blade.

Hi, really great channel. Nice to have a SA woodworking diy go to as you most are all USA n UK.
Keep up the good work.
Super 👍 umgesetzt 👏👏👏 die Werkstatt und deine Tolle Werkbank ist schon richtig gut.Dank für dein Video.Beste Grüße von Braunis Bastelhütte
I love watching this project grow. It is giving me so many ideas of how to set up my shop here to come!
So have I. I like how the bench has multiple tools on the same bench.
I think it is sheer genius.....you always have a way of thinking outside the box!.
I think yours is the best work station ever and just when I thought it couldn't get any better... You should make a start to finish video but you haven't finished!

Awesome! Over engineering is the best! Its super tidy and clean! From a fellow South African! Hos ja!

Outstanding project albeit slightly complicated. Very ingenious.
This all-in-one bench is sweet!
Fantastic! Really liked the solutions for the problems!

Overkill yes, but very cool and nicely done. Keep up the good work another great video.
Wanted to buy one at builders but decided to search on UA-cam if for a DIY. Thank you.
I found this on reddit and have binged your videos all day. Thanks for the great videos.
I like it man. It may be overkill but shop projects are more fun that way
Exactly. What's the fun of having a workshop if you can't use it creatively?😂
Sweet upgrade! I discovered your videos when searching for ideas for my own small workshop optimisation series that i'm going to make. you have lots of good tips and tricks in here
Thanks man! I have actually been following your channel for some time. I'll be looking out for your series.
Creasy! Lot of things of a smal area. Nice!
Very cool. Thank you for taking the time to create the video of your work and posting it.
Nice design but overhead pull down plugs like drop light would be my choice as that keeps the cords off the floor.
Always a good project keeps it short but achievable in like a weekend
You sure do have a great work bench! I'm in the process of designing one for myself, I'll be using many of your ideas! Thank you for the cool videos, you have a great channel!

Jean, you've done it again...you just have remarkable engineering skills. Great idea for quick and tidy access to power supply. I am surprised you have squeezed in a spot for a pop up drill press .. lol.
In terms of practicality it's a great idea mate.
Great solution to solve an the power issue!
Hell yea! This is a great bench upgrade. Thank you for the inspiration, I can't incorporate something similar into my work bench.
Very cool design. I enjoyed the show. However, it is what engineers call "Over design" . Thanks for the show.

Some of the best small shop ideas I've seen bro! Awesome job.

I like it, I have a retractable cord that hangs from my ceiling. I don't like tripping over cords. I recently added 4 receptacles on my walls .
