Good and very cost effective. If using another type of soap, one could add some coconut or almond oil for more moisturising, about 1 tablespoon plus 1 tablespoon of glycerin.
You should add a preservative if your adding water to anything like this. Even if the store soap has preservative in it already, you have boiled out the preservative, as some preservatives are heat sensitive. Also the type of preservative you use depends on the ph of your soap. Add 1-2 % of the weight of your set up soap so that your wash last's longer. Also spray and sterilize your containers first with rubbing alcohol and or boil the containers in a light bleach solution, or you risk mold and bacteria growing in your finished batch.
great and easy recipe, I made it and it turned out great, not to mention I got 3 bottles of body wash using 2 bars of dove soap...now that's what I call value for Ur money. I'm never buying body wash again
Melia Rackliffe saame body wash is so much more expensive to bar soap. I switched to bar soap but I miss the ease of a body wash so this is a great idea!!
I know this is late tot eh party, but if you're still interested, regular tap water could have caused the problem because of chemicals like chlorine. Try with regular cheap distilled water.
Just one other hint that helps. After the soap sets overnight or longer, I use an immersion blender to smooth it out. You can also use a hand mixer too.
The soap itself is already preserved, so there's no need to add any more preservative. I've been making it for years, and It will definitely hold up especially if you're using it on a daily basis, even more if there's more than one person using the same bodywash in your home. I'm lucky if it stretches a full 2 weeks with 3 people using it in my household, it's normally finished in 1 week!

Thanks so much, Shelley. I used one bar of soap and 3 cups of water and it filled up a 24 FL OZ Container, which will last for more than a month. This video was very helpful.
If you worry about it going bad just cut the soap bar, store the other half, as it is dried it will be stable and use the other half to make the body wash, you will make the amount you are able to use up and you won't waste it.

I just recently got into DIY projects that are natural. Out of all the projects that I have done, I like this one the best. I can't believe how long that this lasts, too. Now, I can get liquid soap (or body wash) for $1 a bottle, but somehow I have about 10 bars of soap I just cannot muster up the will to throw away (I think because when I try to use bars of soap I always go back to liquid soap). I thought making liquid soap from these bars would be a great way to use them up. I don't want to go out and buy glycerin, castile soap, tea tree oil (yuck!) or other things that will cost me money. Thank you for sharing the recipe. I tried grating the bar soap, but it was too hard, so I got out a cutting board and a Ginsu butcher's knife with serrated edges. It was a great idea to make your own bath soap in such an easy way. I had tired this but the problem was runny. Is there anyway that can help to fix this? For preservation , one of my friend suggest to add a few drops of tea tree oil into the soap.
Janis, I've not had the batches I've made turn out runny. It does thin out a bit after sitting in the shower but I'm not sure if that's because water is getting into the bottle or from the heat. I'm not sure what to do about it not thickening up more. I would just use it as is and try less water the next time. Sorry, I don't have a better suggestion for you. Thanks for the suggestion of tea tree oil to preserve it too.
This is a great way to save. Can we add a couple of other items in this creamy soap such as coconut oil, aloe vera and Vitamin E oil to make it even better or simply the dove soap bar is enough
I mixed dove soap, coconut oil, aloe gel, and some vanilla extract and it turned out amazing! I got heaps of body wash from it which is probably going to last me about a month :D just mix the ingredients together really well and only add a small amount of coconut oil xx
Okay so I've been pondering this for a week now; and I thought I'd ask someone who would know. Before I add the grated soap to the hot water, could I steep chamomile (or any other) tea to it to add calming properties to it; or will that cause it to mold?

Nice body wash n it turned out very thick n good...but i hav a question can we store it in plastic containers too n preservatives as i read can we add tea tree oil drops or what exactly???pls suggest i will make it today or tmw😊
I'm sorry I haven't added any oils before. I've never stored our body wash in plastic containers, except when adding it to an empty body wash bottle to put in the shower. I hope that helps.
Hi! Thank s for this amazing idea!!! Would You be so kind and check how much that water is in liters? We don't use the cups measurment in Hungary, and I just don't want to screw this up... 🤔
It is great to see you making this body wash because due to lockdown body wash of my choice is not in the market. Thanks i will try this right away. Super easy and keep it up
Good Lord, we cook everyday so this is no big deal. I feel so foolish and sad of being robbed of my hard earned money by the brands. Thank you never ever will I buy from a store.
Thank you for this recipe. I did try it per your exact instructions. It works well, but it turned out too liquidy. Might 6 cups of water for the two bars of soap be a bit much? Maybe 5 cups instead? Gonna try this next time. Thank you again :)
Aurea, if it turned out too liquidy for you I would try reducing the water. I think 5 cups would be a good place to start and see how you like it. I know ours turns out nice and creamy and then as it sits in the shower it can thin out a bit. I don't really know why maybe because it gets water in the bottle or maybe from the heat.
Just tried it yesterday, the exact way and I only got it liquid, not creamy at all, using regular Dove bar soap. How do I get it thicker and creamy like you?
Hi i just tried this and as a mixture it came good. But the result from showering with it.... its exactly like the soap. Using a normal shower gel you'll get a better result. Sorry but true xx
Linda, you could slice it really thin instead of grating it and that should work. If the pieces are bigger or thicker it can take longer for them to dissolve when stirring. I hope that helps.
Can I ask something?? I want to make it like that but to contain pure almond scrub for body ... can I add some almond natural body scrub to it?? If not Can I add vitamin E capsule ?? And for how long it stays ??? Thanks
This worked perfectly..well after I blended it. I used the TONE bath bar. I bought 6 bars for $3.50. I used the same method as this video. After 24hrs of sitting it looked slimy. I used my blender and it became creamy! I filled 4 16oz containers equalling to $0.30 per container!! I WILL NEVER BUY BODY WASH AGAIN!
Correct! Most people see the slimy outcome, they got scared. But when you use the Blender..., it's called " Frothing " or air mixture. Just like putting Cream in a Blender to make Whip Cream !!!
I want to try this with melt and pour coconut soap (I want to avoid packaging and I can get it in bulk). Has anyone tried this dding other moisturizing ingredients? Like cocoa butter or shea butter? I'd be interested to hear other people's experience!
Good and very cost effective. If using another type of soap, one could add some coconut or almond oil for more moisturising, about 1 tablespoon plus 1 tablespoon of glycerin.

Great recipes, thank you so much, have a bless day!!!
I am so glad I found this DIY project😊😊😊 Did you cover it over night.
I cover it overnight with a paper towel.
I love your channel. Thank you.
I actually am in the middle of making this right now just need to know if your supposed to put a pan lid on it while it's sitting or just open?
Put lid on to keep dust or anything else from landing on product. Keep it pure.
Hi! Thank s for this amazing idea!!! Would You be so kind and check how much that water is in liters? We don't use the cups measurment in Hungary, and I just don't want to screw this up... 🤔
hi just in case you are still interested, 1 cup = 250 ml so 6 cups = 1.5 liters
❤ love your recipe.....i want to make this . so you take 2 bar of soaps ..and each soap 4oz right?
Yes, you use two 4 ounce bars of soap. Hope that helps.
It is great to see you making this body wash because due to lockdown body wash of my choice is not in the market. Thanks i will try this right away. Super easy and keep it up
So good
Thanks
Good Lord, we cook everyday so this is no big deal. I feel so foolish and sad of being robbed of my hard earned money by the brands. Thank you never ever will I buy from a store.
There needs to be more women like you.
Hello can we add a full soap in hot water instead of crush it?
Some people suggests to add glycerine to keep the finished product from separating.
Yes, I will definitely try it w/less water on my next batch. Thank you so much again :)
Or addmlittle of glycerin

Can we whip this up with an electrical mixer after it had time to set and use it as a body butter?
@@ilovenoodles7483 interested in that also
Just tried it yesterday, the exact way and I only got it liquid, not creamy at all, using regular Dove bar soap. How do I get it thicker and creamy like you?
Hi i just tried this and as a mixture it came good. But the result from showering with it.... its exactly like the soap. Using a normal shower gel you'll get a better result. Sorry but true xx
woow! thanks for the recip
Hope you enjoy
So simple thank you
You're welcome.
Wooooow that simple 😍😍😍 thanks for sharing
You’re welcome 😊
Hi, did you use distilled or tap water?
Is it useful to be a commercial product?
I want to try putting in some natural Aloe Vera gel from my plant. What would I use for a preservative after I add it?
You can add Sea Salt (Sodium Chloride) to it. Bacteria can't form easily in Sea Salt.
Thank you for sharing this... awesome idea!!!
I was looking for this creamy wash!! ❤
OMG! This is great! Thanks for sharing!!♥️
This really does work thank you for showing me
Your welcome, Victoria.
Do you have to grate the soap I'm disabled can i cut the soap in small pieces? Great video☺☺
Linda, you could slice it really thin instead of grating it and that should work. If the pieces are bigger or thicker it can take longer for them to dissolve when stirring. I hope that helps.
@@frugalfamilyhome yes Thank you ☺☺
Can I ask something??
I want to make it like that but to contain pure almond scrub for body ... can I add some almond natural body scrub to it?? If not
Can I add vitamin E capsule ??
And for how long it stays ???
Thanks
I love you sis...now i know how to make liquid soap in easiest way..😘😘
Thanks I’m making it now. This is a great idea.
Hi and thanks for the video. Did you use distilled water of just straight from faucet?
I use filtered water but distilled would work too.
Thank you!
Thanks so much! So tired of spending lots of money on body wash. Definitely will save me money!
do u know what the pH is? theoretically I'm guessing high but if you don't check it, you don't really know if you need preservative
What's the shell life please? Or can I add preservatives to make it last longer?
thank you!
I want to try this with melt and pour coconut soap (I want to avoid packaging and I can get it in bulk). Has anyone tried this dding other moisturizing ingredients? Like cocoa butter or shea butter? I'd be interested to hear other people's experience!
Instead of using water can you use other liquids like milk or juices?
How is the foam? Does it lather well?
We think it lathers well.
Wow I love liquid body wash but hate all the plastic I throw away and how bad that is for the environment this is amazing !
Hi... Can we add essential oils with it... Or after overnight ?
Perfect!! Just what I was looking for!!
