This is what Monaco looked like in the 1930s
Вставка
- Опубліковано 24 тра 2022
- Ever since its creation in 1929, Monaco has remained substantially unchanged, but the old Monaco circuit itself at least LOOKS a lot different than it does nowadays.
In the 1930s, there were basically no barriers and drivers were only inches away from the water. It must have taken a lot of balls to drive this death trap in the early days of Grand Prix racing.
This F1 2022 onboard lap is driven in Assetto Corsa at the Old Monaco track with Max Verstappen in the Red Bull RB18 challenger.

1930s Monaco was something else. Flat out, dangerous, one wrong move and you’re dead. And it’s so wide compared to today’s Monte-Carlo circuit layout albeit very tight.
Your race and probably your life
Never mind your race, possible that your life is over too.
But back in that day racing pace is not that fast so....ok i guess?
@@rockman1942 not really, people where getting flung into the sea
@@rockman1942 even though it was slower the cars had way less safety systems and features.
Track looks really cool but have you seen Stroll hitting the barriers and going over the kerb once again?
OH NO! What has happened?! We need to know!
Who is gonna end up in front
as we seen Lance Stroll hitting the barrier
and going over the kerb one more time
"-As we seen Lance Stroll diving into the sea.
- Oh no. Anyway..."
That bit after the tunnel is deadly
Yes agreed
The nouvelle chicane was only added in 1986 too. So not that long ago.
Well that's where Lorenzo Bandini died
@@neilmartin3220 they made it less tight before but yeah it was still ultra dangerous, with a rail ready to impale you as soon as you get pushed on it in a fight but in the 50’s, drivers had some balls to go through there at full speed even tho cars were way narrower and slower
This track with modern asphalt and without the bump after the chicane would be cool to drive
Indeed
So basically Monaco but now?
@@edmyles7003 now there is chicane and the part before the tunnel doesn't exist. So it's not a fast straight line like it use to be.
@@checkyxful i know lol, im joking.
@@checkyxful what do you mean by the "part before the tunnel that doesn't exist"?
Slightly unrecognizable in places & nicely flowing but extremely dangerous by modern safety standards.
You can modifie it, like, the unique danger zone is that jump, the rest is just make an asphalt ( sorry for my bad english )
@@jajasking9652 going off the track would possibly be lethal without any barriers, the danger zone is legit the whole track
How many have gone off track at Monaco in The last decade? it seems to be the track, drivers are most careful
@@jajasking9652 small jump like in WRC 7.

These are from races as well, I can definitely remember more that happened through practice
Imagine having a cup of coffee in the morning awaiting the race and then seeing a 2022 Red Bull car.
“See Janice! I told ya, ailen cars!”
It would lap all cars atleast 15 times during the whole race. Even the fastest 1930s car would be at the brink of being disqualified during the qualifying session.
Janice : “There’s a kid driving that alien car, I’m worried about him in the race“
90 minutes later -
…
Max Verstappen wins the 1930 Monaco grand prix, Rene Dreyfus comes home 2nd.
@@JamesRodriguez10783 lol nice one😂
It’s a 30 minute margin!!
@@aadixum it wouldn't be on the brink. Even the 2021 haas would disqualify the fastest 1930s car even in monaco.
Then Janice replies, disappointedly:
'Alien cars? They were supposed to fly by 2015.
Didn't know that they had such modern racing cars back then.

I just find it so amazing that the layout has barely changed in almost 100 years, for a racing circuit that’s kinda mind blowing
Monaco carries that much prestige...that's why
Layout needs to be changed that's the problem. Not by much but enough to make overtaking possible. 1 or 2 overtakes a race is a joke let's be honest
@@fforfreedom8893 you cant theres no space
@@SENTlNEL It's in a city that's open all day everyday. There's millions of ways to change the layout. They can make one sector go from 70 metres to over 600
@@fforfreedom8893 to be honest m8 i think the citizens still need the rest of the country when race season comes.
Mad props to the creators of this map. The surface tessellation really 👌
Creators were Studio397, this track was originally in rFactor 2 and modders ripped it and put it into AC
@@stibblr No, the creators were ISI (ImageSpaceIncorporated) which are the original developers of rFactor 2, rFactor, rFactor Pro (used by many real F1 teams), F1 Career Challenge, F1 2002, F1 2001, F1 Championship Season 2000, F1 2000, and many other racing simulators/games.
This track was there many years before S397 took over. In fact, IIRC it was there pretty much since the beta.
@@toquita3D my apologies then, however I do not need to know who ISI is, I played the og rF1 and F1C for years, only picked up rF2 in 2019 because I was hooked on AMS1
@@stibblr No problem. But, I mean, playing rf1 and F1C for years and not knowing who ISI is, is like playing AC for years and not knowing who Kunos is :P
There's no problem with it. It's just... peculiar.
i bought F1 Championship Season 2000, CD version ! the CART mod, with Zanardi. a bit arcade, but what a masterpiece.
It is much like 30s, although this is recreation of 60s Monaco. This track is excellent and was made for rF2 by its original developer Image Space Incorporated. In the video it is used in AC because it was ripped. I have lots of fun there in rF2 with my personal 1958GP cars, super fun.
0:09 god damn that downshift sounds so good
Do you know what sound mod he uses and what f1 car mod?

@windfall Two drivers managed to crash into the harbour - Alberto Ascari and Paul Hawkins 10 years later.

That jump at 0:57 though.
That jump up onto the Promenade is crazy. I was there in 1970 and this layout is more like it was when I was there than the current layout is to 1970.
I thought porpoising was bad until I saw this lap in Monaco in 1938
Damn near had my heart fall out my ass seeing him take the **chicane** flat out
0:52 I almost died of heart attack
This was so cool! Thank you!
I like this track. Imagine it on calender today
This was awesome. Damn! Thank you
Hello Mitsos 😅 Great video as always
It seems much easier to overtake than today 😆. Great lap 👏 👏
Definitely wider at least, just...
Very unrealistic. Max not even in the wall 😂
Using this layout would make it easier to overtake, especially with how big F1 cars have gotten. But the elephant in the room is, of course, the waterfront; have a particularly bad crash, and now you have to avoid drowning after going from 250 to 0 real fucking quick. F1 cars are hard enough to bail out of when they're on fire, but at least in that case, once you're out, you're out. If the car goes in the drink, now you've got water rushing into the helmet, and the longer it takes you to get out, the more water you have to swim back up through - again, all this after absolutely brutal deceleration forces.
Who is overtaking anywhere here lmao
0:57 they put a mountain bike jump on a f1 track lmao
Between the road surface, lack of... barriers? and that chicane...
I'm scared
300 km/h in Monaco looks so unreal...
I like that “longlife” sign at 0:55
That pinched off chicane and the swimming pool really does make a difference on the approach to the final corner.
This is just Monaco '67 from rF2 with some stuff removed: the start-finish line was on the other side of the Gazometre, not where it is in the video.
Actually feels better for racing than what we have now.
ur an idiot. its be whoever can time DRS the best and thats it
Yeah, especially the hairpin last corner. I feel like they could get something similar now by just straight lining turn 15 to 18. I think they could do something different with turn 8 to extend the straight before the tunnel.
@@timeluster 15 to 18 they would have to remove a swimming pool, and even if they did that, same with a different turn 8, the speeds would likely get too high in places where there is no room at all for runoffs or other safety measures. It be cool, but it would probably require Monaco to change completely: moving the sealine/harbour further away along turn 8 (which would be a high speed kink towards the water with trees and walls on the other side); plus some runoff like the have at turn 1 at the new hairpin if they straight line the swimming pool.
@@Mqtisse 13-14 is the first left-right around the pool then 15-16 the right-left after it, so my thought would just require the temporary grandstand to move - but yeah, there isn't a run off - you couldn't even curve it to run off eastwards down the quay side because of an underground car park. Turn 8 would have just been to send them round the roundabout by turning left after 7. Gains about 60m of straight plus the run off through the chicane could be improved without the trees. The reality is that Monaco is a nightmare for safety and were it not for historical value, shouldn't be on the calendar.
@@timeluster yeah i totally agree, Monaco is a nightmare for fans, but i think its historical value is important so for that reason it should remain on the calendar as one of (if not the only) tracks thats been there since the relative beggining (kinda). Maybe they could transform it into a sort of show/parade race or like they have in cycling a criterium race, maybe with less or even no points towards the championship, idk.
I have never seen something so similar but so different at the same time in my life...
awesome video
This layout is crazy fast!!
Wow! Super impressed, I hope to see a lot more of these type of original tracks re-created and a number of abandoned race tracks that haven't been used be given a chance to come alive again even only in CG-form. Great stuff.
What a deathtrap - make one wrong move in the Novelle Chicane area and it's game over. Probably end up going swimming too.
Going swimming might actually be better in these old cars since they have 0 structural integrity on hits to solid walls
if you look at films from the time, you can see there was already walls in the harbor, they just don't modelled them in the mod.
Oh wow! Brilliant, it was pretty cool back then even. Still knife edge stuff.
Basically same mod 1967 Monaco without barrier and spectators
A perfect 3D cutout of 1930 Monaco streets with real physics, very cool and impressive driving!!! 😎
The irony of having a banner that reads "LONG LIFE" over the part of the course that will launch you into the stratosphere...or a stone wall...if you hit it with just a *little* too much speed
Try it with the W11
