Very cool video !!! Wow so many memories watching this. I think F1 V10s of 2004 are the quickest ever. They had weird limitation on the tyres, 4 stripes in the middle to slow them. With slick tires they would have gone seconds faster. And in race mode as refuelling was allowed, they were absolute sprint machine lapping 5 to 6 seconds faster than modern cars. Alonso, Button, Schumacher, Barrichello etc looked completely destroyed at the end of races. It was another time, different context, different issues but it was nice 😎🙌🏻
The sound of that v10 gives the feels like as the rpms increase we feel that it's going faster and faster but i. The hybrid car's it's just feels we're going at a constant speed as we cannot feel the increase in speed and rpm as in the v10
@@100ksubscribersandipostvid5 The V10s were designed for small, lightweight cars. The harmony was perfect. The modern engines have a LOT more torque due to the turbos and electric motors

@@Griffin283 I am comparing results of clean races, for example spain 2005 which was the last year of v10s, and spain 22 or 23. Race times are quicker back in 2005. You have to take into account they were faster in straights and the cars were way smaller and lighter. Tires were better too, since it was a performance competition between bridgestone and michelin, not degradation management for entertainment. Perhaps you are partially right and in some other circuits with more high speed corners v10 have worse results. Or if tire rules were different now they'd be faster all-around.
@@magnusVarblomst The groved tires were miles slower than modern slicks.. did you ever watch the demo of Alonso driving his championship car on them? It was a missile in comparison to what it was back then. Also, the Spanish GP isn’t a good argument because the 2023 qualifying times were much faster than the 2005 lap times. Not really sure what your point is? Sure they’re slightly faster in a straight line, but miles off in the high speed. They’re not going to be faster on many, is any circuits. Maybe the likes of Baku, Singapore or Monaco. But not on a traditional circuit
Modern F1 cars actually have less downforce, but more weight and questionably "better" tyres. A large part of the so called "improving the racing" in modern F1 has been trying to make overtaking easier and safer. That means less high cornering efficiency (less downforce), more mistakes, but better slow cornering speed (higher mechanical grip) through the tyres.
@@fredsas12 look at the size of the cars and tell me there’s less downforce lad they’re got like twice the square area of bodywork to generate downforce with, it’s actually the low speed corners where the modern cars are slower due to being lazier and heavier
A uniquely entertaining comparison, thanks for going to the trouble. I'm sure dozens of people have already asked, but I would like to see a comparison race between a few of the top 5 F1 cars and the same number of fastest-ever LeMans prototypes on this fantastic Monza track.
In truth as we see with the track records that go down each year. In real life with similar tires the results would probably be the more recent the farther up the grid you would be. It’s not only about the engine, even though it makes a difference it’s not all. And with the changes to smaller engines aerodynamics solutions were implemented that completely changed the landscape year by year. Of course there would be black swan situations. But as a rule of thumb.
while its a good visual comparison it is worth keeping in mind all the 90's & 2000's v10s and v8s are mods & some of them (like the ferrari 310b) are way too fast and others too slow
It all makes sense now. I was wondering why modern F1 races and cars look so slow - it's just because i'm used to the monsters that the early 2000s cars were. Smaller and less powerful engines with bulkier and heavier cars can't really bring something faster. Really miss the speed of the Golden F1 Era, but what i miss even more is the sound. Those howling V10 will forever stay not only in my mind, but my heart and soul as well.
in 1968 jimmy clark in a lotus H-16 set the lap record at spa with the old 22mile circuit, although that old circuit has been closed down, its basically still there, in 2008 they removed the barriers of the old spa circuit so that michael schummacher could break it in a v-10 car. he came close but no cigar, missed it by 1.1 seconds
They’re all just as fast but faster in different ways. The older cars are lighter and are faster on straights whereas the newer cars are faster in the corners and heavier so slower on straights.
Even Hamilton wanted v10's to come back. The scream down the straights is iconic and you nailed it on the head with the v6 hybrids sounding like dyson vacuums.
This is what happens when you have cars that are 140kg+ lighter than a modern car with very similar power. Also next year the cars are getting even heavier.
It's a huge fail to not have these on the grid. Especially the active suspension Williams seeing as that car is considered the peak of F1 car performance (meaning they had to start intentionally slowing down cars at that point).
Not sure on the decapitator/sans amp type radio vocal with the on boards Ermin... maybe slightly too far for me but good on you for trying something new and different. Great content as always buddy 🤘🏻
It would be interesting to see on any track where there haven't been changes (or even on a single curve which hasn't been changed) how pilots have changed their lines through different eras.
If they were more fuel economic I would love it but this may sound stupid but I’m slightly worried about global warming and v10s just dump fuel like no tomorrow
That's just stupid! Current F1 car with past tech that got banned like traction control, active suspension, much lower weight limit, refuel, etc would be undeniably the fastest F1 car ever.
Too compare it in real life it is easy, take alonsos run in his 2005 winning car, in 2020 where he drove it with slicks on it in an cruising speed, his fastest lap in abu dabi was a 1:39, 2 seconds slower than the pole time of that time. And that on a dirty track with Medium tyres in an cruising speed. Imagine he had soft tyres on and was pushing it too the Limit on a good not dirty track, he would be way faster than the pole time in 2020. People today wouldn't even believe it how slow modern f1 cars are in comparision with these monsters. And think of it he didn't have drs in this car and no extra power he can use, and still he could go faster than modern f1 cars. If that is not impresive and shows what f1 had become over the years then i don't know. He was even faster than the fastest race lap in 2020 and that in an cruising speed in his 2005 car with slicks on. Reality shows it, 2000's f1 cars with slicks on are faster than modern f1 cars. Nowone can deny that when you saw how easy he drove does laps back then in 2020.
But Renault was not prepared to be fast, just for demonstration, something commemorative. This also happens at festivals, the cars receive a standard show preparation, with few spare parts or performance options.
@@mdtxtdi thats what i mean. He is not even pushing too the Limit, the car is not pushed too the limits and he is still faster then modern f1 cars without it.
One has to realize that we are making comparably fast cars with notably smaller 6 cylinder hybrid engines. If we tried to make the fastest track car possible today it would be deadly like the Red Bull X2010 prototype. There is a point where just because the car is faster, that doesn't make the racing better. The engineering is better across the entire car. Just because it isn't faster in one lap, doesn't mean it's a downgrade. You can see the effects of the improved aerodynamics in the high-speed corners where the McLaren is able to maintain a much higher cornering speed. If the cars had V10s today they'd have to make them all-wheel drive or bring back traction control because they'd be uncontrollably fast. The cars are more advanced, safer, have some interesting new features, and F1 continues to change year to year to stay interesting. The ground effect rules are quite ground breaking indeed. I do wish that there was less of a gap between constructors in terms of speed. It is frustrating watching the same cars win repeatedly.
@@kevinlow69420 well, thats not really the point though right? We are comparing the cars. Nobody is doubting the v10 engines where more powerful, just that those cars arent faster around a circuit then modern f1 cars. l

Well the mid 2000s cars are made by a well known team if I remember correctly, so that is really all that matters as they are the fastest cars
The RSS cars (physics-wise) are made by one person too. That's... not a valid criticism.
What is valid is that very little hard data exists in the public realm for most of these which will, inevitably, lead to problems with realism. Good point poorly made. ;)

This was fun and intense to watch. Well done and great video! Those V10 era F1 cars are truly one of a kind. Here, and in real life. 👌
I wonder how this would've ended if it was for a full race distance. Also lots of the additional weight of modern cars is safety related. Impact and crash structures, the halo and wheel tethers. Also Monza is very geared towards the older cars. Let them all have a go at Silverstone sometime.
this guy has his clear biases. Not one mercedes car from the hybrid era, the cars that won 8 championships. instead he puts a ferrari 😂😂 this guys an idiot.

You can give the old cars any tires you want: In content manager click replace tires-then on the right side where it lists all tires left click any tires and - drag them to the left side where the cars current tires are-keep holding left click and right click under the #1 - and release both mouse keys - a delete box appears leave it open - now you can drag and drop any tire from right to left. Sounds complicated but it is easier than it sounds!
This is interesting to see as every single speed record set in F1 has been during the Hybrid Era
lol yeah, this video is for the most part a demonstration of how inaccurate many of these mods are. But also this is a very setup-dependent track and comparisons are pretty pointless without working on that.

Not really sure what your point is? Sure they’re slightly faster in a straight line, but miles off in the high speed. They’re not going to be faster on many, is any circuits. Maybe the likes of Baku, Singapore or Monaco. But not on a traditional circuit
_01:14__ Mick Schumaspin is that you?_
I mean no, the cornering speeds are all wrong with a lot of these cars and the downforce produced by the modern ones is unparalleled

A reason why the v10 mclaren was so much faster in the straights because it had less complex aero and obviously the v10
And less weight too
I'd love to see a v10 with their sound, size and weight with slicks and updated aero. A car like that could break lap records!
If they were more fuel economic I would love it but this may sound stupid but I’m slightly worried about global warming and v10s just dump fuel like no tomorrow
@yese2769 global warming lmfao. Pay more taxes, and it will go away.
Those tyres he had were also demo tyres
I dont think the modern f1 would lose in reallife cause what they gain in thr corners is insane
