This song is about the pain of nostalgia, the loss of innocence of our youth and a longing for a return to that time. It is timeless and David Gilmour's expression of this feeling both through his lyrics and cosmic guitar chords is mind blowing...
I remember listening to this when I was 15, back in 2006. I have realized then what Gilmour wanted to give to us with this song. He allowed me to feel, how he feels at that stage in his life, about his youth about the past time that he had, and as you say the nostalgia and yearning to be young again, to get back to those times... It made me appreciate my youth much more, because I knew that one day I will feel like that as well when thinking about my past and I should make the best of it with the time that I had... Sadly, now that I look back, I still think I have wasted too much time... But I suppose this nostalgic state of self reminiscence about the past is inevitable, regardless of how one's spent his time.

Please do "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" - Pink Floyd It has the distinction of being one of the few Pink Floyd songs with all five members; those being David Gilmour, Rodger Waters, Nick Mason, Richard Wright and Syd Barrett. This was due to Syd's partial mental collapse as a result of intense uses of LSD in 1968 from which point on it became just four members. Such a sad person. R.I.P. Syd

I have noticed through my 50 years of music, The people that do not like them. It's too deep and they just don' get it. When you do your in Love forever. We were lucky back in the day when so much talent was around. I still listen to it to this day!!! Love Love It!!!
This popped up, and I immediately clicked, liked, and commented.
southbayspike me too
Me too!😅
I rarely comment bro BUT I gotta just say I love your passion for music and how genuine your reactions are! Keep up the great work Preston! - Much love from the Great White North!
Tool releases something primal and spiritual inside.
Pink Floyd reaches your heart and soul.
If only you knew what the lyrics were actually referencing.. and then you would realise why this happens
mi nomine baphomet
That’s the aesthetic the band chose for Tool. They present themselves as equals on stage. He faces the crowd and takes centre stage with his two other bands.
Also, for someone so concerned with him being a douche, you sure come off as a judgemental douche yourself. I guess it’s true what they say, people tell you who they are when they describe others.
ItsFrenzy26- Again, please, enlighten us.🙏
@@AM-ko4pi well said
The song is a reflection of the bands history and how thier drive to reach to top of thier game actually ended up tearing the band apart.
Well honestly if you put yourself in their shoes, you just released the dark side of the moon, wish you were here and then the wall in a matter of just 6 years from 1973 to 1979, how would you even top that? Those are arguebly some of the best albums of all time.
@@98Dreadboy you forgot the album Animals! The bands greatest song was on that album, "Dogs". I agree with your overall statement though lol.
So glad you did this one! One of my favourite songs of all time. Totally with you - nobody touches my soul like Pink Floyd 🔥
Yes! It is One of the best Pink floyd's songs!
My favourite ! The video is also great !
written by gilmours wife.
@Felipe S. You should check out the entire album
Meh.... it ok. Not even on the same planet with the top 20 pf songs
Does pink Floyd without Roger waters really exist?
You need to do Marooned from this album! It's all instrumental but it has to be one of the greatest pierces of guitar work that David Gilmour has ever done!! You think this song relaxes you... Wait until you listen to Marooned!!!
I'd just keep liking this if I could so that he would have to notice. Marooned is other worldy
Tony Mioni, exactly! Marooned is one of best things ever played!!
This song is just magic !
Could you react to Dire Straits please ? If you like David Gilmour you will surely appreciate Mark Knopfler's guitar playing
I recommend songs like Sultans of Swing, Brothers in Arms or Private Investigations
Rockforever forever Sultans is great. Mark Knoplfer has a sound like no other.
and ... telegraph road ffs ;-)
sultans of swing (alchemy live version) - telegraph road (live in Basel !)
Money for Nothing by Dire Straights was the second video to ever air on MTV. The first one was Video Killed the Radio Star. Both songs were about the commercialization of the music industry and the negative affects it would have.
@@burningstar1793 Money for Nothing was actually writen when Mark worked in a repair shop and him and his boss were watching MTV. Mark wrote down some of the things his boss was saying about the video they were watching.
Dude, my reaction was the same when I heard that song 1st time. Magic.
The chord progression accompanied with the lyrics on this one are ingredients for chills every time incredible song!
Finally man was asking for it since you started reacting to Pink floyd glad you liked it that's my personal favourite song ever thanks.
I'd like to see you react to "Mother","Young Lust", or "Money" by Pink Floyd. Keep up the great reactions.
Happy New Year brother! Division Bell was such an under appreciated album. Thanks for the reaction.
I grew up in a town 20 miles away from Cambridge (where Pink Floyd are from) and this song takes me right back to those halcyon long summer days, birds & bumble bees, the church bell tolling across the town... Pink Floyd nailed it. Just beautiful.
Dave Gilmour, Hendrix, BB all are the gods of slow playing and knowing how to hit your soul with a bend.
Their magnus opus, great pick! Happy 2019 man! I recommend you see the music video and their performance of this song in the PULSE concert... speechless!
The Pulse version gives me goosebumps.
you should listen High Hopes live in royal albert hall ... its absolutely amazing
or high hopes live in gdansk... pure magic with that slide guitar solo
Or Pulse from Earls Court.
Pulse version is the best.
I love the Royal albert hall version, the way he just moves from the lap steel to the acoustic in the end is pure talent and his playing just touches my soul.
Lyrics by Dave Gilmours wife, Polly.
wow. i didn't know that. that's interesting.
Yeah, she writes all his lyrics, she is a writer (of novels) in her own right. He gives her the music, with a rough melody for the vocals and she walks around on their beautiful land in the country until the lyrics come to her. A perfect partnership.
@@jonnylumberjack6223 does she have a sister? lol
@@sassounhagopian4144 no idea! this is a great watch though, re Polly and how they write together :) ua-cam.com/video/fo043v0d3kw/v-deo.html
She's not as good as roger, but she has moments of genius. I've always loved "to a higher altitude with flag unfurled/we reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world"
Hey man, I agree they have to be on the same page to harmoniously express themselves with such thoughts and words and music. In their photos you shared last, they all look preoccupied by the same mind set. I grew up listening to them way back since I was a teen, and now their same wonder appeals to me still. Thank you for sharing man!
I am so glad that you enjoy Pink Floyd, I grew up with them, they are my favourite band. Its nice to know younger generation love them too. real music .
Love the fact that you are analyzing this stuff. Thank you Bro.
Awesome Preston one of the best, I still think you need to give comfortably numb a re-visit but has to be Pulse Live and it will change your mind which Pink song is on your top list
every Christmas, all my childhood, my father put Pink Floyd in background, whole evening, thanks dad
I agree Pink Floyd is a different breed. Their music has a way of reaching inside of you and taking you on your own personal journey. Been listening for 40 years and they never fail to connect with me. I am glad you are enjoying their mastery of music.
Nothing can top Floyd....I love music, and continuously listen....but man the ART that is Pink Floyd will never be matched!!!
Pink Floyd - Keep Talking
It features one of the most iconic voices in human history.
guitar sounds like its singing words that we each get to decide which words they are......i am so blessed i started playing music 37 years ago good luck with patricia buddy!!
Great choice! Next: Echoes (live at Pompeii)
I came into the world while pink floyd were playing i will leave happily with their music still playing...thank you.
I cry tears every time I listen to this. Not just because of its implicit meaning, but because of the meaning for PF. This was their last song on their final studio album. This was a goodbye.
When I’m down, a little Floyd helps me back up.
Please do "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" - Pink Floyd
It has the distinction of being one of the few Pink Floyd songs with all five members; those being David Gilmour, Rodger Waters, Nick Mason, Richard Wright and Syd Barrett. This was due to Syd's partial mental collapse as a result of intense uses of LSD in 1968 from which point on it became just four members. Such a sad person. R.I.P. Syd
I know you enjoy background noises when bands include them. Keep Talking is the track you will love!
"All we need to do, is make sure, we keep talking"
My favorite song on this album ;) .
I've listened to this song 100 times or more. And it's one of my favorites. But you made me look at it again with a fresh perspective. Thank you.
Your attention to detail outsizes MINE as I never consciously heard the buzzing at the start to this AMAZING track till now. Love your reactions and comments through each track. I just hope these guys play live again. A bucket list thing for me to see them live.
i remember when this album was come.. me and all my friends waiting this album since few month .. 8-)
When Gilmour's solo is coming in: ''Oh my holy fucking universe. David, stop breaking my heart. I can't handle such an emotional phrases''
React to have a cigar- pink floyd :)
Happy to see younger generation enjoying genuine artists and music....
The endless river.. forever and ever 😢. Nice to see you appreciating pink Floyd!
And the next one should be "Us and them" from The Dark Side of the Moon :) KEEP I TUP KING KTF!!! :D
The song is actually called "High Hopes" and contains the best guitar solo of all time in my opinion ❤️
I agree..100% it's a rare but perfect chord progression, chorus, and background for the best transfer of human emotion to an instrument, canvas, sculpture etc... it pushes my happiness to the point of tears every fucking time still
Hi Preston! Please react to Pink Floyd's - Shine on you crazy diamond part 2 please please 😊
yeah, i made that comment on part 1 video
Yes please but start with part 1 again so it's all together!
Yessss
@@myownchannel247 mee too
I love that you love and appreciate Pink Floyd like so many of us!
Three Pink Floyd albums are back in the UK album charts - again! I can only imagine it is because of guys like yourself who are reviewing their music and bringing it to a whole new audience. Kudos :)
You need to make a video for Echos (Remastered) a 23 minute journey!
Pink Floyd- Us and them
React to “coming back to life” by pink floyd my guy. It’s amazing.
Timeless brilliance. 40 years of listening and I'll never lose the goosebumps
Another great video. Love seeing the love and appreciation for Floyd by new fans.
Echoes - Live at Pompeii
Might want to try Echoes live in Gdansk!! May I add you want to give "Coming back to life" from" The Division Bell "album Pink Floyd is for all ages!!
Final echoes performance with Richard Wright 25 minutes of pure bliss
It's wonderful and such a blessing to experience something so beautiful that it actually hurts somewhere down deep. Pink Floyd takes us there regularly.
Saw them in 1994 live in a soccer stadium in Portugal. This song made part of the alignment! Great show, great songs! Bless you for your new musical taste.
Listen "Shine on you crazy Diamond" part 6-9
Queen - Who Wants To Live Forever
it makes you wonder, what happend to real music
Give a shot to Riverside, Lunatic Soul, Anathema, Katatonia, The Pineapple Thief, Porcupine Tree, Blackfield, and Steven Wilson if you want bands that follow a similar path but are unique in their own ways. Trust me, there are many modern bands that make great music. My recommendation would be Weather Systems and Time Traveller.
It is being made by Julia Holter
Amen, to that. Preston is right. Pink Floyd will spoil you.
Video killed the radio star.
Still goes on. Many bands are doing excellent work.
Pink Floyd really gets you thinking. There's a message in every song. Most important of all, they bring people together on common ground.
maan, i watched a lot of your pink floyd videos reaction, and i gotta say i love them a lot, you are a true person, you are not faking it and you have a wonderful taste of music, i'm a huge pink floyd fan so i love watching your reaction it's like i take a friend's opinion of the songs and you have a beautiful smile, thanks bro and keep it up, Peace
