    • @SS-li7wg
      @SS-li7wg 3 роки тому

      The visual produced by the last sentence of this song, 'the dawn mist glowing, the water flowing, the endless river, forever and ever', (which happens to be the last song of this album), would appear on the cover of their next album, 'The Endless River'. The cover of endless river shows a guy on a boat, amidst a faint glow of dawn, on a boat, in an endless body of water that goes as far as the eye goes. I don't know if this was deliberate on the band's part, but an album cover being a reference to the visuals of a song on an album produced two decades before is just creative genius.

    Jamel, you're right about the division bell being a reference for when it's time to choose which way to go. It's a reference to an old practice in the British Parliament when it was time to take a vote. The members of the House of Commons would be in a large lobby, discussing the issue, and when the bell rang, they had to go through one of two doors, to be counted. So when the division bell rings, it's time to take sides, which is like the end of innocence.

      Storm Angelus i liked to think this is Gilmour's way of trying to get Waters to wipe the slate clean and become friends again. The Final Cut album is where Gilmour and Waters had a major dispute and Gilmour took his name off the production when the album was released. Years later, Gilmour tried to ask Waters if they could forgive each other. Reference to one song on Division Bell, where Gilmour says, "I asked if we could wipe the slate clean.. but they tell me to please go fuck myself." That was was Waters telling Gilmour that. Gilmour stated that Waters's assistant gave the message to him. The lyrics on this song, to me, reference how great the were musically and they were still hungry for creativity but Waters's troubles and his father was the main area for writing his lyrics. In one line Gilmour says in High Hopes, "Dragged by the force of some inner tide." Maybe this means that Waters was full of pain about his father's death, which is part of what The Wall album is about. After knowing about this history, this final song of the album, speaks to me that Gilmour wants his friend back.

    Final song on their album The Division Bell (1994). Roger Waters (bassist/vocalist), the man behind Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals and The Wall, left the band in the early 80s, it was a messy divorce and Waters tried to sue them for using the Pink Floyd name after he left. David Gilmour (guitarist/vocalist) wrote The Division Bell based on all that, with the general theme of communication and the lack thereof.

      Keep Talking, in my opinion, is an absolute must listen. If you've ever been so twisted up inside and desperately needing to find a way to say what you need to, but can't get the words out - it's the perfect song. Whenever I've been having trouble saying what I need to say, I play it and my fiancé recognizes what's going on inside me, so he steps back and gentles his approach of how he deals with me, since I tend to have such difficulty verbalizing my inner turmoil at times. Music is a gift!

      Your age and if you were in relatively good health, 40/60 is good odds all things considered. And on a vent. Being around respiratory therapists, vent patients, and hospitals in general (hospitals are no place to get better), you're lucky as hell. Don't take your health for granted. You're going to want to keep an eye on your health and your lungs from this point forward so check in with your GP and ask what you might need to do and what to keep an eye on in the future. Good luck!

    This WAS Pink Floyd's last studio session as a group (1994), until 2014 when they released The Endless River album which were mainly comprised of unreleased recordings done during the Division Bell sessions.
    The Endless River was a tribute to Richard Wright (founding member and keyboardist) who had passed in 2008 and who written/co-written and performed many of the songs on the newly released recordings.
    This song (High Hopes) was the last song on The Division Bell and the album title of the new album [The Endless River] was the second to last lyric in this song and the last song that represented Rick Wright's talents, that was until 2014. Remaining Members David Gilmour and Nick Mason added new material to complete the new album.
    The band basically called it quits after that as only two original members remained.

    One of my favorite Pink Floyd songs from one of my favorite Pink Floyd albums. I listen to this song and I hear someone remembering how life seemed before they grew older and life became more complicated, how the road ahead seemed so full of possibility and you can still see that possibility when you look back, except that now you've run your course. It's memory and hope and happiness and regret all wrapped up together. You've taken steps forward, but find yourself sleepwalking back again, dragged by the force of some inner tide. That's how it's always seemed to me. It's bittersweet and I love it.
