I was at this show in June of 94. It was amazing. I met This gorgeous hippie girl at this show. SHE was amazing. The two of us have been married 28 years. Two grown children later we now we have three Grandchildren watching your video with us. You might say this show changed my life. Enjoy the journey young man. Best wishes from all of us.
"They're not your average musicians". I couldn't have said it better myself because your right. The word average is not a word that can describe Pink Floyd in any sense. When it comes to music if you ask me Pink Floyd is in fact a genre all their own. Pink Floyd has built a legacy that will long out last them. I'm just glad to have been around when they were. They have become timeless.
Steel slide guitar that he jumped on after the acoustic and then back to acoustic for the last few notes that are just just exquisite in my opinion. Such a beautiful song recalling life when it was so young curious and carefree.
One can only experience something for for the first time ONCE. We've been marveling to Pink Floyd for 50 years. but watching you do these reactions is almost as good as when we first saw and heard them. Enjoy your journey through the PF worlds yet to be visited....we certainly have (and still do). Pink Floyd don't just plug into their amps - they plug straight into your heart, mind and soul.
The steel guitar is mostly, famously used in Country music. David has a different approach to it. Check out The Great Gig In the Sky from the Pulse concert to see him play it again.
I can't describe how happy it makes me, seeing and watching you have your mind opened by music written 50+ years ago it was a time of a great human awakening changing how young people viewed the world, we at your age and younger no longer saw life as our parents did. They ask what happened, a question i'm still asking myself, chasing money, greed of music corporations, cheap three chord songs about boy meets girl, dumps girl, and ends in a dirge of never ending sorrow, it's on every radio every day and it ain't music! some of us still have High Hopes!
I was the one that requested this one. I told you David would be playing different instruments. The lap one is called a steel guitar 🎸 & he was using a slide. Nightwish does a cover of High Hopes it’s worth doing a reaction to it. 💯🔥
This is my favorite song ever (this version in particular), so when I heard that Nightwish covered it, I was SUPER skeptical. They made it their own, though, and absolutely did it justice.
This song is about becoming an adult and looking back on your youth, which is why he makes the guitar weep on the solo, makes me tear up when I hear it but in a good way 😎
Probably the most retrospective song in PF's repertoire. My absolute favorite. David's lap guitar solo brings me to tears. As an old man, I totally get the lyrics. The grass was greener. Thanks for the reaction.
That movie you are experiencing is your own life. Pink Floyd takes you inside yourself. Thats why as you get older, their songs mean something so much more and different
I've said this before and I'll say it again - you don't listen to Pink Floyd, you experience them. Completely unique, no other band like them and I don't think there ever will be. You can't go wrong with anything from Pulse, I watched this concert everyday for 3 weeks and it's watching David Gilmour play that made me pick up guitar. Great reaction, keep them coming, fab to see younger people discovering Pink Floyd and enjoying their musical journey
I've said this before but I'm very glad you did the live version of the song first because when you do the studio version nobody ever realizes that David is playing a pedal steel guitar!! With the guitar solo at the end people assume he's just playing his guitar or a normal guitar!! And the look of surprise on your face when you noticed that pedal steel guitar it's always priceless when someone sees it for the first time!! He plays the same instrument on an old song from Meddle "One of These Days" in the same concert! Always enjoy your reactions because you don't just like the beat you actually get it and have insight!!
I’ve loved Pink Floyd since 1969 as a preteen. Still my favorite band & have all their albums. You can’t just listen to a song but the whole album with headphones.
Masterpiece. This amazing song turns us back to basics . PinkFloyd unrepeatable. Amazing reaction , appreciate your reaction to their song : One Of These Days from their same concert Pulse.
I decided a while ago to request this song played at my funeral. It speaks to me sonically and lyrically. If I can arrange for the lyrics to be engraved on my urn, I'd be very content.
Me too. At my age I'm spending more time looking back, and this song is how it feels. I might plan an all PF arrangement - Great Gig and Wot's uh The Deal belong in there too.
I love watching you young people react to the great music I grew up with. it makes me feel like there is still hope for the next generations. By the way I went to 2 shows on the Pulse tour & was in the front row for one of them, I cant believe its been almost 30 years, still in awe of these guys.
Such a beautiful number, this will never be encountered, getting high listening to this This almost brings me to tears, but tears of happiness, yet my face express sadness
If you want to hear David Gilmour play bass guitar, then you have to listen to the following song: Pink Floyd, Pigs (Three Differents Ones) from the album "Animals". Unfortunately not available in live version, but the sound remains very interesting.
The word you're looking for is atmosphere. No one sets an atmosphere like Pink Floyd. Soundtrack not to a movie, but to life itself. The live Pulse version of this was the way to go. Better in this case than the studio. Another great reaction!! 👍👍 "Dogs" from Animals album a must.
Pink Floyd are God's when it comes to performing concerts. They are absolute Masters of merging the visual with the music. They build atmospheres, compete stories with every note they play. There's a reason they created an entire studio album from this concert
He was playing a Lap Steel guitar at the end. I love your content. It makes me smile to see your reactions. I saw the Pulse tour back in the early 90’s I believe. Your reactions were my reactions back then. Beautiful!
As some have mentioned, David is playing a red Jedson lap steel guitar tuned to an open Em. He also plays it on "One Of These Days". Also, on this same tour he uses a blond Fender Deluxe lap steel for "The Great Gig In The Sky". You listened to "Shine On..." Parts 6-9, where David used a Fender 1000 Twin Neck pedal steel guitar. Find a video of "A Saucerful of Secrets", on their "Live At Pompeii". The 10 minute version. David uses a tone bar on his black strat. He also uses it at the very beginning of "Echoes".
great reaction again, iv watched all your pink floyd reactions, i would recommend that you react to the live versions, maybe stick with pulse, try " money " or " us and them,
That's the lap slide guitar. And their masterpiece with that instrument is "One of these days", from the same Pulse concerts. Listen to that. The ONLY sentence on the whole (very ritmic and nearly paranoic) song is "One of these days I'll cut you in many little pieces!". WHAT a piece!!!
This gives me the feeling that the apocalypse has happened and the last of humanity is remembering how life was in the distant past. Humanity is on the cusp of extinction.
@@tammyphxaz Oh. No. It´s still a lap steel guitar. A pedal steel guitar has actual pedals that let the player change the tuning on the fly. Here you can see a pedal steel guitar. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pedal_steel_guitar#/media/File:Pedals_steel_guitar_moderne.jpg And the one that David plays it´s not a Fender. It´s a Jedson. Cheers
@highhopes94 ah, thanks I tend to get them mixed up as the Jedson's are copies of the Fender Delux lap steels and I know David has a Fender Delux Six but thinking about it I think that was a blonde one and it was red on this recording.
I like how in the video they were still giving recognition to Syd by having a bust of him carried through a field. I thought that was a nice little nod to him.
That is called a lap steel guitar, some call it a slide guitar too, it's popular in American Country music, but as you can see David can make it sing too !! I'm enjoying your quest in seeing how far the Pink Floyd rabbit hole goes my Friend, God Bless. 🙂
Bell represents the ring of the Parliament where people start there disagreement. Hence: Roger Water and the band arguing to a point Roger left. Now the band wish to keep going. "High Hopes". Should check out some of Gilmour's solo work as this was the last Pink Floyd concert. EX. "Live at Pompeii" " in any Tongue" *************** at 70 yrs old. He plays this song with a great ending.
One does not simply listen to Pink Floyd, it's something you experience. That experience is different for everyone and the same all that the same time.
Love your reactions. I'm super impressed by your music tastes as you explore all these great bands and musicians! A wide variety of knowledge (and that includes music!) is how you turn into a well rounded person when you're my age! Keep it up because it's impressive and important. 😊
only gig ive went to we,re no on moved , sat staring obviously a lot of herbs involved , you nailed it . the music drags you in like a good movie. never see or hear the likes of it again . music now is done
A steel guitar. Traditionally a country music instrument. Gilmore adapts the steel brilliantly for this tune. The all time master of the steel guitar is Buddy Charlton. In fact Buddy was a master on the "peddle steel" guitar which is the same instrument but with foot peddles that change the pitch of certain strings! Amazing to watch and listen to!
Pedal steel guitar - it sits flat on a stand, and enables the player to use a different group of techniques, some of which would usually be associated with autoharp or a dulcimer. It’s long been a favorite of Country Music players, who take full advantage of its comfortable, keyboard-like position and a metal or ceramic handheld “slide” to bring out highly expressive, vocal-like phrasing (like Gilmore does here).
Just watched this again...when you get to listen to "Pigs" and " Sheep" from the "Animals" album, Gilmour played bass on both - and the difference in tone, feel, and emotional content between him and Roger Waters is astounding.
Please re react to this in 20 years. Youll be shocked at how differently it hits. Its so damn hard to make it through without tears flowing like he says, an endless river. After half a century on this earth, songs like this just gut you. Most Pink Floyd songs have that effect. Time changes everything.
That's a Steel guitar David Gilmour using, also called a Lap Steel guitar, Hawaiian guitar, and other names too. They're played as one would play a Slide guitar, using a circular metal or glass bar called a "Slide", to slide along the strings from note to note. David Gilmour had at least two of them, a Jedson was one and I think the other was a Fender.
Try the "Live at Pompeii" version. In it, David adds a much longer acoustic guitar solo after playing the steel guitar. I think it adds much more "feeling" to the end of the song.
You're right, they're definitely not average, there's Pink Floyd, and then there's the rest😉Everything from this concert was just on a different level, and if you like a bit of bass guitar re-visit Floyd in Pompeii 1972 and have a listen to 'One Of These Days'👌✌
Bro, when you've got time you should check out David Gilmour and Richard Wrights' performance of "Echoes' Live at Gdansk, 2006. Wright, of course is the keyboardist of Pink Floyd, and also one of the four co-founders of the band in 1964. It's not listed under Pink Floyd, because Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason did not perform that concert or that tour. This particular performance of "Echoes" is particularly significant because it is likely the last time, Gilmour and Wright shared vocals on this iconic Floyd masterpiece. Wright died of cancer two years later in 2008. One of Floyds most epic songs highlighted with a beautiful Gilmour/Wright harmony throughout the vocals. It was quite unique in that respect, and quite special for them and their fans. They had said in an interview that they would switch who would sing the high part of the harmony, and who would sing the lower part, apparently whatever they felt at the time. After Wrights death, Gilmour said he would never play the song again. Link below,... ua-cam.com/video/C1mrGUZ-BBk/v-deo.html
It was a Lapsteelguitar. When you hear One of these days or The great gig in the sky you can hear David on that Guitar too. But if you hear David on another Instrument you must hear Red sky at night from the Album Live in Gdansk. I'm sure you will love it
Ok dude, I see you wondering what that instrument was that ah lad was playing. It's a lap steel guitar, not a peddle steel. Yes it's a pedal steel guitar, a type of slide guitar. He plays the same instrument on another Pulse track called "One of these days", which you should check out, especially as you like bass. It's mostly an instrumental with a single lyric line "One of these days I'm going to cut you into little pieces" :) It features their famous pigs! lol A great track, quite unlike anything else on Pulse but you will definitely love it.
Molly, my two favourite guitarists of all time are David and Gary Moore... The live version of The Messiah Will Come Again by Gary, from Monteux is one of my two favourite performances, the other being Comfortably Numb from the Pulse concert. React or watch it in your own time, and prepare to be blown away my friend.
You don't listen to Pink Floyd , You experience them 🙏✌ Also some more Floyd songs to check out. Julia Dream Lucifer Sam Pillow of winds Cirrus minor On the turning away Live at the delicate sound of thunder ( An amazing solo that's better than comfortably numb ) ;)

Lap steel guitar also in ONE OF THESE DAY by live PULSE
One Of These Days is the best representation of it, imo.
Those were the days......just talented musicians mastering their instruments. No Autotune or other technology to make something what it's not.

When I'm having a rough day, I listen to Gilmour to quell my anxiety. Always works. Perfect frequency.
Money from Pulse shows off Nick's drumming. Love the sticks. Thanks. Cheers.

Pink Floyd, Pigs (Three Differents Ones) from the album "Animals".
Unfortunately not available in live version, but the sound remains very interesting.
@The pragmatic6383 - Actually, there's a 1977 concert from Oakland CA that's essentially official quality. From May 9, 1977. 1000x worth listening to.
The word you're looking for is atmosphere. No one sets an atmosphere like Pink Floyd. Soundtrack not to a movie, but to life itself.
The live Pulse version of this was the way to go. Better in this case than the studio. Another great reaction!! 👍👍
"Dogs" from Animals album a must.
