Yay another double banger - this is one of my most favourite songs - he sings it so beautifully and passionately and the lyrics are just great - wish that someone had filmed the sessions can you just imagine how amazing that would have been to see 💖⭐💖
I love this song. Really good lyrics. Perfectly sung. Super album. True love lasts when selfishness disappears from the relationship. It lets you travel on the "gravel road". Elvis had chronic tonsillitis from childhood. He was afraid to have them removed because he was afraid it would change his voice. Most of these songs are country. Country songs always seem to have the best lyrics.
Love this whole album ~ his voice is devine and songs are soulful, just beautifully done~ the Elvis never disappoints 🥰 so happy to see ya feeling better😘❣
Regarding the comments, don't worry. Nobody on UA-cam replied as much as you did. It was nice, but not expected, especially as you get busier. Only so much time in a day. We understand.
Very nice song. Yeah, Elvis had music, rhythm, humming and improvisation flowing from head to toe. He had it all in spades. I enjoyed your reaction Seph. Thank you. ⚡👍
Songs like this are usually only heard by die-hard Elvis fans. Casual fans only listen to the ones that got airplay or word of mouth live performances. It's a shame really, because Elvis recorded a lot of gems like this one. You are right, there is a great message here. Life is a gravel road. There are ups and downs & good times and bad. The only relationships that survive are the ones that are based on true love. The people who love you "warts & all". Elvis can sign us the ABC's and we'd be happy, but I am so glad that he recorded all of the absolute masterpieces that he did. Also, I always love and appreciate your enthusiasm! You are a hardcore Elvis fan and it makes me happy for you ☺
*SEPH* Darling I just want to say - Don't let Subscribers / Comments GET TO YOU!!! You can only DO SO MUCH My Channel is at 40K Now - Even Way Prior to that I could NOT Respond to everyone not even half!!! It's Impossible!! I am not trying to Sound Mean at all it's Just Reality!!! But I do go back as much as I can and read / heart / like the comments and sometimes I do try and respond - Please Give Seph a break -- Your Doing FANTASTIC -& Love You So Much!!!! x Hugs Tonya
Hi Seth, vocal harmony is by Elvis himself recorded a few days later on 22 Feb 1969. He didn’t do his own harmonies very often, which is a pity because I really like to hear it. Stay cool about commenting on comments. If something jumps out at you respond on another vid. If they are regular viewers they’ll see it. Most comments are for the other viewers anyway as a way of showing how smart we are about Elvis haha!
Such a beautifully written ballad, reminding us that true love will always endure, even through the most challenging times. The way Elvis sang this so earnestly & soulfully, he was definitely a "musical genius". Triple Banger & lovely reaction Seph 👍😊
I love this song! He puts such emotion and feeling into his music! Great reaction! I think he really did pick his songs so perfectly. They spoke to him. ❤
Yes a double banger on a song where Elvis grabs this listener and hits his soul with vocal perfection. Whether he picks those songs that suit his vocals maybe yes, but his film career along with other songs along the way shows he can make a pretty good fist of anything served up to him.
these recorded in this Memphis studio were bangers. I wish he could have done more at American Studios. There is a lot of cry and deep to Elvis voice, you definitely can tell he has gotten deeper and stronger. You should see the pictures of her recording at American. When he walked in everybody nearly fainted. Ha. I would have. Thank ya, Mr. seph. ☺💜
Seph, don't worry about answering every comment every time. We don't want you sick again!! Love this reaction and this song. The click, I would guess is Elvis , because if he heard a guitar case or something like that, he would have stopped the take. Sometimes he would do skats or add little things if he felt like it.❤❤❤
Elvis fans are truly the best of ANY artists, including The Beatles, Michael Jackson, etc. At the same time, they can be quite annoying. Some think they're right about everything and can't be questioned. Some spread the Elvis is alive garbage because they want so bad for Elvis to really be alive and supposedly happy in their minds. There's never been anything else like Elvis or his fan base!
SO TRUE.. ✨️ 💞 ALL THE TALK ,, I GET SO ANNOYED WITH PEOPLE COMPARING HIM WITH OTHERS LIKE M.J. AND OTHERS.. THEY SEEM TO FOGET THE AGE DIFFERENCE AND THE ERA.. JUST CAN'T REPLACE THIS GOD GIVEN MAN.1💙💙💙
I love his soulful voice! Seph, you can't answer every comment without splitting into at least 2 or 3 persons. I guess your twin brother is not patient enough.😅 Great reaction! ☀️💚
A banger, I like the lyrics and the meaning of the song. Gotta get out on the countryside more and chase them milk ladies.😊 The orb is back, might it be Orbie-Wan Kenobi?
You're really gettig the great stuff now Seph - but you ain't seen nothin' yet!! The success of Elvis’ two recording sessions at American Sound in Memphis during January and February of 1969, can be attributed to many things and that those things came together all at the same time. Despite being in excellent form vocally, and under the expert guidance of producer Chips Moman, the final product still depended on the correct choice of material. Fortunately, at these sessions Elvis had almost unrestricted access to songs, a scenario which had not occurred before or since, meaning that the odds of the quality of those compositions being top material was much higher. In addition, with Elvis now being thirty four years old, married and with a young baby he was now well placed to tackle material with a more mature narrative. Instead of singing songs whose lyrics reflected teen adolescent experiences, and therefore appealed mostly to that particular demographic, Elvis now had the life experience which gave him the credibility, in the eyes of the wider music consumer, and emotional nous to tackle material recounting such experiences. No longer would Elvis sing about a hidden love for a friend’s girlfriend or about wearing a ring around his neck, but instead would sing about darker themes such as death of a loved one, failed marriages or long term relationships and thinly veiled references to sexual experiences. One such song recorded by Elvis at American Sound and reflecting these themes was “True Love Travels On A Gravel Road”, and aside from the title, contains lyrics which anyone who has been married or in any relationship which has lasted for a significant amount of time would admit has more than a ray of truth about it. Undoubtedly using all of his accumulative life experiences, Elvis produces a wonderful vocal performance, totally believable as he narrates to a loved one about their relationship and how it has survived through both the good and the bad. Being such a quality performance, it is no surprise that it was one of the songs chosen for the first album to be a product of the American Sound sessions - “From Elvis in Memphis”.
Awesome song....on my daily Elvis playlist. Recorded February 17, 1969 at American Sound Studio, Memphis. Guitar: Reggie Young, Elvis Presley.,Bass: Tommy Cogbill. Drums: Gene Chrisman. Piano: Bobby Wood, Elvis Presley, Ronnie. Organ: Bobby Emmons. Harmonica: Ed Kollis. Trumpet: R.F.Taylor, Wayne Jackson, Dick Steff. Sax & Trombone: Jackie Thomas. Sax: Glen Spreen, J.P.Luper. Trombone: Jackie Thomas, Jack Hale, Gerald Richardson, French Horn: Tony Cason, Joe D'Gerolamo. Vocals: Mary (Jeannie) Green, Donna Thatcher, Susan Pilkington, Mary Holladay, Dolores Edgin, Hurshel Wiginton, Joe Babcock, Millie Kirkham, Sonja Montgomery
It’s actually Elvis himself. He went back in the studio to do his vocal harmonies on 3 songs a few days later. The 3 songs are this one, Power of My Love and Do You Know Who I am. Date is 22 February 1969.
Ronnie Milsap can sound so much like Elvis. I think he did Elvis' voice in one of the Elvis movies - the one with Kurt Russell I think. But, Ronnie is not on the list of musicians for this song, so I'm pretty sure it was Elvis.
There is an even better version (which is take no.2) from this session. Elvis’ voice is better, the musicians play better and it’s a slightly faster tempo. It’s clearly a better take, but wasn’t chosen for the final version. Probably some audio problem kept it from being used, because it’s clearly better. You should listen to take no.2. (It’s not what many call the alternate version - that is the 4th take, I believe)
In the sixties he did have a gravelly voice ..... PLUS ...... Colonel Parker pick the songs that Elvis sang ..... For the most part ..... People that post stupid things like he had a cold or what have you ..... Is just plain garbage ..... Elvis never needed an excuse for anything ..... But the people that post such things do ...... That's for sure ...... No Brag ......Just Fact .......
Elvis always the best. This is one of my favorite albums by him, though I love them all
Love this song
Gospel vibes!👍
… ELVIS … A Singer for eternity !! ✨💎✨ 🕺🏻🕯 Thank you
To be a fly on the wall when this was recorded...

I love this song. Elvis sings with such sincerity. He truly lived in both worlds. ❤❤❤
This song was recorded on Feb. 17, 1969. He did vocal overdubs for this on Feb. 22.

One of the very best - sung this live once and it is off the charts.
This song and Gentle on my mind are the 2 masterpieces of this album
this song is certainly in my top ten, played it on my wedding (opening dance) as symbol of the gravel road we travelled.....
You are correct Seph, this album is a masterpiece! Love seeing you discover it! ❤🎉

Not a bad song, but not one that I listen to very often on EP's list of 700+ songs.
I love his soulful voice!

If Elvis produced "The Great Stuff" only in his last 8 or so years, then how do you explain his fame in the 50s and 60s???
Awesome song....on my daily Elvis playlist.

I think i read that the aftermath of a respiratory infection might indeed have given Elvis a desired addition of soul to some of these sides.
Hi, Seph. The other voice probably is Charlie Hodges.
It’s actually Elvis himself. He went back in the studio to do his vocal harmonies on 3 songs a few days later. The 3 songs are this one, Power of My Love and Do You Know Who I am. Date is 22 February 1969.
No. Charlie Hodge was not part of the backup vocals for this song.
From what I’ve read the other voice is probably a young Ronnie Milsap.
Actually it is Elvis himself. He went back into the studio to record his vocal overdubs - 22 Feb 1969.
