    I think you are right. Elvis is about the music. He makes every song his own. I do think he was an intuitive music genius.

    Man, he can sing songs he didn't write and make them his own, that is a special gift.

      I don’t understand why not writing your own music makes singers less talented.. Many artists do covers or have writers. Elvis had many writers. His manager bought the rights to the songs. Sometimes the writers got a percentage of sales. Matt Davis wrote in the Ghetto and after being rejected by Sammy Davis Jr. he offered it to Elvis. He got the biggest royalty check from Elvis manager in his career but unfortunately some writers didn’t do as well.

      @@MigdaliaTomalinas-os2nz During Elvis' time, 99% of the musicians didn't write their own songs (regardless of whether they were white or black musicians). It is still largely the same today. Elvis Presley had an incredible amount of talent (as many artists who met him personally say). Maybe Elvis would have written songs later if he hadn't died so early. I am 100% convinced that Elvis had the talent for it. Elvis was a musical genius.

    This song was written by Dallas Frazier and Doodle Owens, who also wrote Elvis’ Wearin’ That Loved On Look. The first recording True Love Travels on a Gravel Road was done in September 1968 by Duane Dee, an American country singer known for his many guest appearances at the Grand Ole Opry and also for a series of minor hits on the country charts, sometimes with songs that went on to be major hits for other artists.

    The studio version has an great arrangement with a nasty horn section. This version just has piano. And drums. And nothing else. Except Elvis' Absolutely Wonderful soulful gospel-tinged voice. This is maybe the greatest vocal I have ever heard from him. Gives me chills. Thank you for posting this. A truly legendary singer needs no embellishment.

    Ooh What can we say about the king of rock, Elvis, unique. These ballad, who cannot be identified with these lyrics. AWESOME, and how can not we talk about his sensual hips' movement, that went the women mad, I was not in the mood with a rainy day in my motherland and watching the video I'm pleased, thanks Rory for this reaction👍👌👏🏻

    Thank you so much for your Elvis reactions…. I’m 66 years old and bought my first Elvis album, “Blue Hawaii “ back when I was around 10 years old. I’ve been an Elvis ever since. I was very fortunate to have actually seen 5 Elvis concerts. I live in the suburbs of Chicago, IL in the USA. I saw him at the old, now demolished Chicago Stadium in June 1972, October 1976 and May 1, 1977. Although my favorite concerts I saw was at The Las Vegas Hilton at the Elvis Summer Festival in August 1974. The fact that the showroom held only 2,200 people instead of 20,000 people was marvelous because it was so much more intimate. I saw the August 24, 1974 Dinner Show and then either tat night or the next I remember paying $12.50 to stand up in the balcony of the showroom just to see him again. I was 16 at the time. Where does the time go? Thank you again for help keeping Elvis’ memory alive…you do a marvelous job an I appreciate it so very much. Take care my friend.

    You would love all his songs on his "in Memphis" album that he did at American Studios. Songs like " Any Day Now" , and "Without Love", "Only the Song Survive". You are fun to watch when you do Elvis, you are just like me. Thank s for all the Elvis content, I been a fan since the 50's, I never get tired of listening.

    i know you're swamped with requests thank you so much for not forgetting about these!!
    this was one of the requests someone in the comments asked for when i offered to paypal a couple for anyone who responded to my comment :)
    its a great song i do love the live version & wish he would've kept it in his live setlist but elvis was very intuitive about what his live audiences wanted & always did his best to make them happy
    unfortunately that meant that a lot songs like this would end up being cut from live shows if they didn't seem to go over well
    thanks again!!

  • @sallycook
    @sallycook 8 місяців тому +3

    Rory, I think this is one of those few times where the undubbed version is not as good as the final released version. This song definitely benefits from backing vocals, which add another dimension of poignancy to this beautiful song. Also, this is Take 7 whereas the master is Take 11. Takes 8-10 were all false starts suggesting some difficulty getting everything just right. “There was an awkward moment of silence followed by scattered, nervous laughter, but the tension passed quickly as they struggled on together through a number of takes, before finally getting a master.” That suggests to me that Take 7 was a bit underdone.

    • @nycsue
      @nycsue 8 місяців тому +1

      I'm sure he will do more Rush, but this is an Elvis reaction. He has fans that love Elvis and I am one of them. I appreciate him doing Elvis reactions and he seems to enjoy it as well. So why should he only react to Rush? I happen to like Rush too btw. I would never go to a Rush reaction and say, gotta stick with Elvis. He has over 700 recorded songs, numerous albums, sold more records worldwide than any other artist, is the King, etc..
