    Great video, you guys really nailed it although I do think that if Elvis For Everyone can be considered a studio album, Gold Records 3 and 4 should also be taken in consideration. All are compilations in my opinion. Great to hear your thoughts though.

      @ELVISforum  2 місяці тому +3

      GR3 and GR4 would have been number 1 and 2 for me. They're hits compilations; hence I suggested we omit them. Thanks, Alex. (David)

    Interesting topic chaps. My top 3 would always have to be From Elvis In Memphis, Back In Memphis, then Elvis Is Back. If I were to do my top 10, I'd stick to secular recordings only and include Gold Records 3 and 4. For me, the order after the top 3 would be ever-changing and somewhat arbitrary

    • @ELVISforum
      @ELVISforum  2 місяці тому +3

      It can be difficult to agree on what to include and what to omit in such ranking videos. The idea here was to rank the music that didn't appear as hits compilations. Thanks, Sean.

    Great content thank you! ⚡️ For the spanish in both Elvis is back albums, the one from Cuba and the one from Argentina: “regresa” is the present tense of verb ‘regresar’ meaning to come back (they choose to translate ‘is back’ in a present tense expression as in ‘he returns’). And “volvió” is the past tense of verb ‘volver’ meaning here also to come back... so is really ‘came back’ (typical Argentinian use of the simple past perfect over the past perfect tense and placing the verb before noun).
    Anyway, both verbs mean the same, they are synonymous, but the way they use language differs. That’s because of the different Spanish you get depending on the country you are... you can call it different Spanish accents. And there are quite a few in this big ole rock.
    Funny part is, here in Spain that album is the very first Elvis LP album they released (with just Elvis in it), it was also in 1960...and they used the English original ‘Elvis is back!’ Interesting because the usual practice here was translating names to Spanish (as japanese did) and up until then it has been just EPs and singles and no LPs. Other Spanish speaking countries would translate it but not in Spain. Here it seems name of songs were translated, so the singles were in Spanish but not the name or title of an album...original albums maintained their original English titles.
    Sorry for the long explanation! Take care gentlemen 😊

      That's fascinating, thanks. My wife lived in Spain for a year, and she tells me that in Spain they like to translate every little thing into Spanish rather than use the original English word, or whatever. As you know, the Japanese like to "Japanify" English words. So, it's surprising to me that they, in fact, used the English title in Spain. I wonder why it took them so long to release an all-Elvis LP in Spain. Very interesting info. Thanks. (David)

      @@ELVISforum'A manuscript maybe' warning:
      Yes, in Spain back in the day, traditionaly, English was not the first language that people used to learn apart from their own...meaning that French was the predominant foreign language taught in schools and that depending on where in Spain you live, your first language maybe is not even Spanish... So in this country English becoming the second or third language has taken more time than in other european or Spanish speaking countries in America (due to the inevitable influence of their northern neighbours). And of course, during the civil war and post war times (four decades of the 20th century) Spain was not overly influenced by foreign culture. American, British or French culture were consider as counter culture, I think.
      Of course things have changed a lot...and I mean a LOT. Normal today you have bilingual schools everywhere, younger people spending time overseas learning English and working, and plenty of english words untranslated 😂But it is true that custom has been always translating foreign words, having all foreign movies, documentaries, TV shows, etc. dubbed into Spanish, etc. I thought of Japan because we were similar at some point in being almost helpless when it came to English. For me the 'japanification' of it is as interesting as amusing. Because we tend to use spanish sounds or fonetics when saying an English word (like pronouncing /'wiːfiː/ instead of WiFi) even after we've learnt proper English 😂 So having original english titles in the spanish versión of LP albums as early as 60's is indeed surprising.
      And about the original all Elvis LP album in 1960: I think RCA Spain was just adapting itself to the economic reality of this country in those days and circumstances. Meaning the long plays were not as affordable as the small records for the general public in 50's and early 60's. Therefore EPs were the popular choice until of course late sixties, when the small format began its widespread disappearance, I think.
      It is Important to notice too, those early original LP albums (from Elvis is back up until Pot Luck maybe) that were decided to be released, did it approx. at the same time that in the rest of the countries but, due to mentioned economic problems, at the expense of production quantity (very few were made indeed) and being printed in very low quality materials. For these reasons they are quite collectible... really tough to find some of them and in nice condition is almost like finding an unicorn. Maybe more experienced collectors would know their ways but I'm an amateur, so...unicorns. I've seen some, but yes, expensive and in poor health (records, I mean 😆).
      Love what Elvis discography can bring to the table. For the millionth and the last time let me appologise for replying so lenghty🤦🏻‍♀️
      Cheers! ¡Saludos!

    Love the concept of presenting and discussing personal views on music. Regarding the 60's, Elvis ' production is generally undervalued because of the abundant and of very varying quality soundtracks. In fact, the studio recordings are ALL brilliant and demonstrate the artistic side of Elvis. My own tastes lead me to believe that his early 60's performances from Studio B in Nashville are the best : Elvis Is Back, His Hand In Mine, Something For Everybody, Pot Luck, The Lost Album...

    A pretty solid top 10 guys..From Elvis In Memphis for me is his finest of all his albums,Back In Memphis and Elvis Is Back would flip backwards and forwards for the #2 spot.Elvis Is Back for me suffers from a few "filler" tracks,Soldier Boy,I will be home again are cuts ive never been struck on,Dirty Dirty Feelin is a bit "throwaway".Personally I'd have started Side 2 with A Mess Of Blues and made Soldier Boy a 7" b side...another great vid guys and good to see Steve back 👌

    I find it almost impossible to pick my number 1 but I think I would take Elvis Is Back to a desert island.Strangely though the one weak track on it for me is Fever which I feel is a woman's song best left to Peggy Lee.Elvis's vocal though is superb as it is on all the tracks.Also I think His Hand In Mine has the Kings sweetest most sincere vocals ever.👍👑

    Solid rankings. My Top 2 are Elvis Is Back! and His Hand In Mine. I have to admit that I am just now coming around to the stuff from '69. For me, his voice is transitioning and it can be painful at times to listen to. I know I'm virtually alone in that opinion but there you go. :-)
