One of Elvis' vocal treats. This song was done in 1945 by country singer Earnest Tubb. Give a listen to it and compare it to Elvis'. Elvis definitely made this song his own.

Old Ernest Tubb. He had a voice to remember. Deep baritone, a little nasality. He was a favorite back in the day. Doesn't compare with Elvis. Those old singers just stood there and sang a song all the way through from beginning to end without varying their voices. It took Elvis and the black singers of the day putting passion into the music to make it great. Otherwise, there might still be "crooning."

This is one of my all-time favorites. I love the build up, the lyrics, the powerful vocals. Goosebumps indeed.
I get this from the lyrics: "You say you love me, but you never back up the words with actions. You tell me tomorrow we'll be married, but tomorrow never comes. So tomorrow I'm leaving, but I know I'm not going anywhere, because tomorrow never comes." A man trapped in a relationship in which the other person never actually commits. (Walk away, Elvis! Save yourself!)

    THIS! THIS RIGHT HERE!
OH MY GAWD STOP THE PRESSES!
    THIS IS WHY!
IT'S SONGS LIKE THESE THAT MAKE IT AAALLLL WORTH IT!
YES! A THOUSAND HOT SUNS YES!
AND YES ELVIS'S VOICE HERE HAS MORE SOLAR POWER THAN A THOUSAND SUNS!
DAAAAMMMMMNNNN SEPH! THIS EASILY GOES UP THERE AMONGST YOUR S RANK ELVIS REACTIONS QUADRUPLE BANGER 🔥💣💥🔥💣💥🔥💣💥🔥💣💥
Alright so: My own humble interpretation of the lyrics:
"Tomorrow Never Comes" was written by Johnny Bond & Ernest Tubb & first recorded & released by Ernest Tubb in 1944.
1944 was during World War Two. A lot of men left home to fight in the war.
This song in my head is a man on his last night at home with his wife. Both have accepted with heavy hearts he has to leave in the morning & there are no guarantees he will ever return to her.
So they both decide to make the best of their last night together, building up as many memories for each of them to hold onto to get them through what may come for each of them in the future, separately and together.
So he tells her in his own way as long as you have these memories of us together tomorrow never has to come.
It's very heartwrenching. First time I heard this one I cried.
I read a lot of true stories from people who lived through & fought in World War Two.
In some of them there are copies of love letters written between husbands and wives, girlfriends and boyfriends.
There is one letter I'll never forget. The husband was thousands of miles away when his baby girl was born and he wrote back to his wife saying something to the effect of, "My darling dear one, you will never know what peace thoughts of you holding our child closely in your arms brings me. You are the most beautiful to me and always will be. I cannot imagine loving anyone else as much as I love you and our daughter."
That is just... Gawd. And yes he had made it through the war but just barely. He had come really, really close once to never making it back to his family. But he did thank goodness.
To put into better perspective what war veterans went through then coming home from war & having to re- adjust to civilian life I HIGHLY recommend the movie "The Best Year Of Our Lives".
It's about three WWII American men who come home from war and have to navigate their new lives as civilians in a changed America.
Really well done & the guy who plays the American sailor was a for real WWII veteran who did actually lose both of his hands due to an explosion.
He also won a movie award for his performance in the movie & he was totally mind blown and all kinds of humbled. When he accepted his Oscar (for Best Supporting Actor I think but don't quote me) he was in near tears.
And THAT is why I love history & try in my own way to make sure the sacrifices others have made are not forgotten.
THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL SONG WITH BEAUTIFUL LYRICS & ABSOLUTELY SO BEAUTIFULLY SUNG THAT IF YOU ARE NOT MOVED IN SOME WAY AFTER LISTENING TO THIS... I DON'T KNOW... MAYBE YOU NEED TO GET YOUR PULSE CHECKED.
Info on this one will come later I promise!
Seph you are THE BOMB 🔥💣💥
Thank you ever so much for sharing 💐
You had me in near tears no lie 💜
    TCB ⚡ & TLC ❤ & peace ✌& blessings 🙏 to you & yours & to one & all here as well 💕

It's so emotive listening to this ballad, Elvis skillfully builds the song to a strong & steady beat, then goes for the powerful dramatic ending! Wow, definitely goosebump material!! The beat of the song & the dramatic climax reminds me of Roy Orbison's song "Running Scared". Make room on that A & S list Seph, brilliant reaction 👍😅❤️

4th comment: Cyrus Whitfield "Johnny" Bond (June 1, 1915 - June 12, 1978) was an American country music singer-songwriter, guitarist and composer and publisher, who co-founded a music publishing firm. He was active in the music industry from 1940 until the late 1970s.
Bond was born in Enville, Oklahoma, and grew up on several small farms in Oklahoma. As a youngster, he was influenced musically by records that his parents played. He learned basics of music as a member of his high school's brass band. While in high school he bought a ukulele, but soon he switched to playing the guitar.
Bond first performed on radio in Oklahoma City when he was 19 years old. In 1937, he began performing with Jimmy Wakely and Scotty Harrell in the Bell Boys trio, named after the Bell Clothing Company, which sponsored the group on radio station WKY in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He went on to join Gene Autry's Melody Ranch in 1940.
He also performed with his own group, the Red River Valley Boys.
The Encyclopedia of Country Music says that the Bond-Wakely-Harrell trio "pulled a clever musical scam" by recording for two companies under different names: the Jimmy Wakely Trio (for Decca Records) and Johnny Bond & the Cimarron Boys (for Columbia Records).
Bond also acted in more than 40 films, beginning with Saga of Death Valley (1939) and including Wilson and Duel in the Sun.
Beginning in 1953, Bond and Tex Ritter were hosts of the syndicated country music television series Town Hall Party, which lasted seven years.
Bond's first solo recordings came with Columbia Records in 1937. He is best known for his 1947 hit "Divorce Me C.O.D.", one of his seven top ten hits on the Billboard country charts. In 1965 at age 50 he scored the biggest hit of his career with the comic "Ten Little Bottles", which spent four weeks at No. 2. Bond's other hits include "So Round, So Firm, So Fully Packed" (1947), "Oklahoma Waltz" (1948), "Love Song in 32 Bars" (1950), "Sick Sober and Sorry" (1951), and a cover of Charlie Ryan's "Hot Rod Lincoln" (1960).
The hundreds of songs that Bond wrote include "Cimarron" and "Ten Little Bottles". He and Ritter formed Vidor Publications, a music publishing firm. He retired from performing in the 1970s to devote more time to publishing music.
Bond died of a stroke in 1978, at the age of 63.
Bond was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999, and to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Bond's song "Stars of the Midnight Range" was featured in the role-playing video game, Fallout: New Vegas. Another song of his; "Headin' Down the Wrong Highway" was on the radio in the game Fallout 76.
    ~ End of Bio Info
And that is it I think I have for this one! Phew!
Seph once again you are makin' me work today! Nothing but love 💖
    Happy reading ✨📖✨😁

Another banger Seph - this just showcases how incredible a vocalist Elvis was. It also shows how good Elvis was at building a song - it just builds tier on tier, verse by verse. This June 1970 Nashville recording sesion is just incredible - commonly known as the Nashville Marathon. In answer to your question Seph - unfortunately he never performed this live!
Elvis reecorded Tomorrow Never Comes on 7 June 1970, the second last day of the aforementioned Nashville Marathon and it was the fourth of NINE songs recorded that evening. It was recorded immediately before The Next Step Is Love and despite thirteeen takes a suitable master could not be achieved. A combination of time constraints - with such a heavy recording schedule - and fears of Elvis' voice not holding out, the desicion was made to concentrate on just achieving a suitable ending to the song.
This was achieved in just one take and was known as the work pat ending and lasted just twenty seven seconds. This take replacd the original ending from take thirteen creating aa composite undubbed master and this underwent post production.
Post production consisted of orchestral overdubs added on 30 June before additional backig vocals added on 1 October 1970. Unsurprising it became a highlight of the Elvis Country album on it's release later that year.

I wonder if you want to listen to a really masterful and serious song, it has almost the same name, but it's from Garth Brooks, it's called:
If tomorrow never comes and the lyrics in that is so bl..... AMAZING, those lyrics man, you really should live by them !!!
I wish that I could hear how Elvis would sing:
If tomorrow never comes written by Garth Brooks, I think that it would have been a even bigger song then anyone ever could realize, but Elvis was gone when Garth wrote it, in anyway we know that Elvis always lives the lyrics, so if he had he sang this Garth Brooks song, it would make us cry and cry, this since it's so deep, Garth makes you cry when you think about the lyrics he is singing, just think what Elvis would have made us do !!!

There's a rehearsal only of this. Think he decided it was just too hard to do live night after night and do it well. He has a hard time with this, especially at the end. Without the ending overdubs you can hear his voice give out. That said, absolutely one of my favorites. And I love these builders too. This really shows what he could do with his voice at that time.

Added Bonus Info: The band backing them on that live performance is/ was Buddy Holly's (former) Crickets.
The Everly Brothers & Buddy Holly & The Crickets all toured together back around the same time Elvis's career took off.
Anyway, Phil & Don & Buddy all became very close friends as a result. I think it was Phil who said that they were all from the South and they all started out in Country music.
Phil contrary to belief was not a pallbearer at Buddy Holly's funeral but he did attend and did sit with the family. Don said he didn't attend that he just took to his bed. Don was particularly distraught of the loss of his friend.
Don't know if you know all that Miss Kathi but I thought I'd share all that anyways. You are so very welcome 😊👍

@sammy_the_uncool2702 Thanks for the new info. I was in the ninth grade when "Cathy's Clown" came out. I didn't realize it was The Crickets backing them on this song. I was 12 when the plane crash killed Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper. It happened very close to my grandparents' house. I don't know how to provide a link, but if you search The Surf Ballroom is Frozen in Time - It's Still 1959 on YT, you can see a video of where their last concert was held. The Winter Dance Party honors them the first weekend in February every year and still draws a huge crowd even after all these decades.

This song should have been a worldwide hit imo. Oh and the reaction was just tremendous Seph. I especially enjoyed how you highlighted the crescendo at the end, singing with it and conducting the music. And how well you display how you feel when the Elvis vocal gymnastics hit you and you also keep up with the lyrics throughout the song. You are simply the BEST!!! This is one of my top favorites of his. There’s an album that came out in 2020 in which all these songs from this album, Love letter album and That’s the way it is album. It about how he recorded 30 songs in 5 days. They call it the marathon of 1970. The album is named Elvis in Nashville with a brown cover. It’s turned out to be my all time favorite album because they have some funny sessions and then they have the song they picked. What’s so great about it is Elvis purists love it because all that background they put in afterwards was stripped away and it’s his recording only which puts his voice right up front with only the necessary instruments. When I first listened to it, I just happened to stop on Bridge Over Troubled Water and cried my eyes out, it was so beautiful. So I just listened to the next song which would be in my S column because I’ve heard it finished on the TTWII album but never so raw as this. I cried all over again. It’s called how the Web Was Woven. His voice standing out brings out so much emotion that I wasn’t prepared for it. So, I put the album away till the next day because I felt I needed an emotional break. Then I listened to the sessions and the finished version. It’s a terrific album. Every time I ask an Elvis fan about it, they’ll say “ oh that’s one of my favorite albums “. If you can’t react to this (it is 1970) listen to it on your own. Or better yet I have it on my streaming playlist. Just relax some night and enjoy it. Some of the songs you’ve done from the other albums are on it before all the stuff is added on. You become emotional listening to The Elvis sometimes, so be prepared for the impact he leaves with his voice. The gentleman who worked on this is an Elvis aficionado who throughout his life has worked on beautifully done books with gorgeous px and loads of info, he’s worked on his music imprint it and making sure it’s updated so his voice will never die. 😊😊Thanks again so much. I was sick for a few weeks so I’m catching up with your playlist. So, you’ll see a lot of my comments and you’ll know why. I’m binge watching Seph and he’s a quadruple banger‼️‼️. 😂😂❤❤🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏼‍♀️

@@SephPlays Thanks for asking. I have CFS/ME for 25 years. It was doable when I was younger and raised my son. But as I got older it became worse and if I push pass my endurance level ( which I tend to do) I collapse like I have the flu. If I rest a couple days with medication, it sometimes works. Other times it doesn’t and I was in the Hospital and given some shots of steroids to get me over it and I’ve also been on some heavy duty medicine which does help. I can watch stuff but not answer but was so weak I just slept. Feeling much better and I have to tell you. Watching you helps me laugh and feel better. 🥲 I’m not sure if you realize what you do for people. Especially watching you with The Elvis. Thank you. I hope you’re doing well since you were sick.
