Amazing tutorial - thank you! I had been looking for this for days with zero success, then finally this morning the UA-cam recommendation engine served it up out of the blue. I do have a question - how do you know which domain all these modifiers - grow, delay, blend mode - affect? Some are geometric, some are surface based, some are temporal - how do you know which one to use where?
Cheers Guy! To be honest its all trial and error for me, I just keep trying till I get the effect Im looking for - helps to consult the manual every now and then as well, theres detailed explanations on every modifier/effector in there - loads more tutorials at cgshortcuts.com

Hi Dave, is there an alternative way of applying the vertex map to the alpha channel? I'm using ProRender and as soon as I switch to ProRender the alpha doesn't work.
Pro render is pretty new and doesn't support many of c4ds features, don't think you can do too much about that. I'd suggest getting a fully fledged gpu renderer like octane;) BTW we also have a fancy new website full of loads of CG Resources if you want to check it out www.cgshortcuts.com thanks for watching!. . .
@@CGShortcuts Hey Dave, I'm in love with your contents. I have one doubt similarly from that but I on octane (3.07 - R2) and when I trying to apply the vertex map to the alpha channel there is nothing like the standart option you used in your tutorial. When the second one is applied to the sphere do not know how to link the vertex map to the alpha channel. Because the octane material does not have the alpha option to check at the "Basic" section. when I use the octane c4d extension, everything works perfectly in the live viewer, but when I render, the fields/displacement do not show up? need help

when i do this on a complex object, the displacer doesnt start when the field hits the object but rather when the growth has finished covering the object then the object starts getting the displacement effect...

Hey mate, quick question. I'm using Octane and when I do this, the displacement material is seen, but the original object's materials aren't there anymore. They can't be seen in the live viewer, any idea why?

Hi George, you could create something like that with a bump or normal map pretty easily and you could achieve the memory foam effect with the collision deformer.
