Philip IV´s Family | The Twilight of Habsburg Spain | Las Meninas and Diego Velázquez

- The painting known as Las Meninas represents a frozen moment in time, a snapshot of an instant in the life of the Spanish court in the 17th century. A painting about painting. A reality and an illusion. The artistic pinnacle of its creator, the Spanish painter Diego Velázquez, and one of the most scrutinized and debated works of art in the history of mankind.
But, above all, this painting is a collective portrait, representing real individual figures whose identities and lives where recorded.
So, on this video we will try to understand who they were and what this painting can tell us about the artistic career of Velásquez and life in the court of Madrid in the twilight of Habsburg Spain.

🥰🥰🥰
Super fascinating and engaging.
I know she is Maria theresa of spain. That’s who the little girl is in the picture. In the background reflected in the mirror is Philip 1V her father and her mother. And the two court dwarfs are in the painting. She was also half sister of Margaret who married king Leopold of Austria and half sister to king Carlos 11 of Spain
The girl portrayed is Infanta Margarita Teresa.

Ma familia ❤ 🤍 💙
top!
😂😂😂
I guess that for uncle and niece, having children was a technicality otherwise how hard is to think of Philip niece sleeping with her uncle.
of course, out of all of them, Velasquez is the one remembered, and not because of any stupid aristocratic title!
the academics and researchers who spend entire careers on medieval and early modern Iberian history say otherwise 😂 from the trastamaras
To the bourbons. And plenty of us history fans spend our free time learning about it. Plenty of people get bored of the constant Tudor and English monarchy stuff and start learning about Iberian monarchy and history. And in Spain, these people are most certainly remembered
but of course the English think the world revolves around their shitty overdocumented history and monarchs when in reality Spanish and Portuguese history is much more fascinating.
Just by their chin it’s easy to know who they are
