  • In this video I show how to replaced a ignition cylinder switch ASSEMBLY, not the cylinder switch. I wasn't able to take the cylinder switch. The Ignition lock cylinder switch I used from a 2003 Saturn Vue. This car is a 2007 Saturn Vue. It work with no problems. I'm not sure (do your research) but I believed the ignition swictch are the same from 2002-2007 on a Saturn Vue.
Use safety. Especially safety glasses. Thank you for watching.

If you have any Saturn and the key won’t turn, first look at the key and see if it looks worn. If you have a spare key that is not worn see if that has the same problem. I’ve had 2 Saturns (wagon and vue) that had this problem. Starts out where you can jiggle the key a little and get it to start but gets worse over time. Thought it was a cylinder problem and an expensive fix until I noticed how worn the key was.

The little black plastic piece under the ignition will release the lock and key. But your video was helpful for a 10 min fix. Also that was the problem and its works fine without it. Another problem was the key was worn out and the second key had to be used and just needed to make a copy.

Insert the key into the ignition. ...
    Turn the key gently. ...
Apply pressure to the steering wheel. ...
Do not shake or rock the wheel. ...
Pull the key out slightly before turning it. ...
Turn the wheel and the key at once to unlock it.

Black actuator on the bottom is the shift lock, when you pull the trigger on the gear shifter it pulls that pin so if the key is not turned you cannot shift.
The issue I had with my vehicle was the ignition barrel would not even take the key, the pins locked down and you couldn't insert the key more than a quarter inch.
This video is the closest match to the issue I had and was curious if anyone had a similar issue and solution.

@@NoneMechanic101 I drilled out the tumblers and pins with a 1/2" bit and was finally able to turn the barrel freely with a pair of pliers. I tried pushing the holding pin and pulling the barrel out but it is catching on the way out.
I plan to take off the ignition assembly this weekend and try it. From what you showed, it looks easier than fighting it in a confined space.

Just saw your video did you know there’s a little hole in the back on the right side... I just replaced my cylinder for the ignition and I was able to remove it at first it was kinda hard but all you need is patience, I bought the new cylinder at Oriely’s I even code it it my self was not hard at all Can I ask why you replaced it in the first place ?? I was having problems with the passlock it wouldn’t start and i had to wait 10 minutes did you experience the same thing?? Thanks and good job why pay a mechanic big money when we can do it ourselves is my motto. 👍 thank god for you tube

So the problem why the key gets stuck is because the cylinder or the assembly? I have the same car and my kid is getting really hard to take out and I have a hard time turning it all the way off to lock. Please reply and what the solution was/ the problem and if it’s the same as mine. Thank you! Good work.

Those are for Passlock Sensor - its basically a resistive network to send previously learned voltage to BCM when key is turned to START.

The security lock is on. If you have the owners manual follow the instruction. If not call a lock smith and see what he says

You’re suppose to turn the wheel to the right and unlock the steering wheel so the key will turn at the same time. Sometimes the steering wheel will not unlock no matter how much you turn it. Then what?
