I was employed for 34 years as a hospital-based social worker working with patients, their families, doctors, nurses... it was a deliriously busy multi-tasking position; at one point I had a 53 patient caseload. Thus I "rewarded" myself for the stress with both junk food after work and alcohol on the weekends. I suspect this "rewards system" is more common among those employed in stressful jobs than we acknowledge. So what helped? Retirement! Gave me the chance to get my health and body in shape and am healthier now than when I was employed. Also was able to heal myself from C-PTSD with the help of a YT channel called The Crappy Childhood Fairy, which I can honestly say changed my life. Lost 24 pounds, got my blood pressure lowered, got in shape, forgave my parents for neglect and abuse, and wrote/published 3 books. The 9-5 grind can be a killer
I love Crappy Childhood Fairy also. Very specific and interesting things, not just a repeat of what everybody already knows. Congratulations on being able to take care of yourself now :)
What would you recommend to someone in their early 20s just starting out their career with a 9-5 job? Because I have 40 years until retirement, and I already can't wait to retire 😂😂. I would seriously need some form of a stress killer without ruining my life
Seriously awesome for the both of you! I know what that's like. Jordan didn't pull me out of my dark place, but his words certainly helped keep hope alive for me. Be well!
Actually im kind of overcoming Instant Gratification myself, quit smoking. No coffee. 2 Weeks now. Feeling veeery meh. Sleepy all the time, very irritable. Absolutely pointless quitting, I am feeling no benifits, but Ill see how it goes after 1 month.
So I took a brake from caffeine and coffee because I started taking cold showers in the morning before starting shifts at work. Same effect as the adrenaline from the cold would increase my heart rate so I wouldn't need coffee. You want to be more awake. Then actively do something like exercise that elevates your rate.
@@henryg3313Cold shower is not an unnecessary chore. It's more of a meditative experience. When the water is cold, we have to embrace it rather than try to tolerate it as we naturally would. It's about enjoying the experience, and such a state is meditative and clarity inducing than bathing in hot water to avoid something chill on the body.

I am a huge JP fan, & if I may, the phrase/notion to "take responsibility for other people" is a slippery slope for me. I appreciate that it's a basis of family & community, and, oh boy, a grown-up will certainly do as they will at the end of the day, and it's on them.
People just don't listen, because it reminds them of a parent imposing rules. Every human being needs insight to make a change. It's not always about the purpose.
It's worse if that person's parent was highly emotionally manipulative and abusive. So when thier "lessons" were mixed with the abuse, who can blame the person for not being able to listen to any form of advice to improve? Their brain has quite literally been taught to go on the defense the moment it's been given outside information. That's how Narcs are created, sadly.
To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.
Despite fighting against it all my life, I still procrastinate at times. Perhaps it is just part of the human condition. Or I have undiagnosed ADHD. One of the two..
I guess just keep visualizing yourself in a much better place and say, when faced with IG, "I must not do this to have the life I am visualizing". Keep it simple ^^ it is actually easier to justify things with something simple
The real answer as Andrew Tate would say is become actually hurt by it, actually feel discomfortable about it, because if it genuinely even slightly bothers you and you have a negative reaction towards it, you will correct it. If you are a fat lazy piece of shit, then you need to be told you are a fat lazy piece of shit, until you actually have had enough of being called one and become healthy and strong and become a respected successful individual in society. The answer has been the same always no matter what deviant behaviour or habit it is, the solution is calling people out when they fuck up and not letting it slide until it’s corrected. And this is being said by a man who was a fat lazy piece of shit, now having lost nearly 15kg (30lbs), working out everyday and actually finding out that I actually quite enjoy the feeling of being strong and realise how big and strong I am and what I can look like 2 years from now. Who would have guessed it 😅
He totally missed that alcohol is a different substance to the alcoholic and gives a feeling very similar to a spiritual experience. Carl Jung didn’t miss that.
