    Wish I knew this tool existed. I just re-set six smart locks with lost key, to a new key. The old way takes patience and bionic vision.

    Great video! The tips leading up to the moneyshot are great for smartkey newcomers. Something you might find interesting and someone else might have mentioned they exist: I have a red tool with the new label. Not sure when it was purchased, but it was in the maintenance shop at a property I just started managing. Thanks again and grats on surpassing 7 subs :)

    Thank you. I didn't need to use my Smart Key reset tool afterall. All I had to do was find the gap that the new key wasn't installed all the way in to the lock.

    The Kwikset Smart Key Door Knob on my garage door froze. I replaced it with a new one, re-keyed it and done.
    I bought the Cradle Tool so I could fix any of my door knobs when this happen again.
    After watching your video, I took the frozen door knob apart and re-keyed with use of the Cradle Tool with my first try. Now I have a Spare door knob.
    Thank you very much, you made my day.Cradle tool

      These tools are awesome when they work, sometimes they can fail.
      Most likely they fail as they are bounced around in work vans lol, keeping it on a shelf will prolong its life!

    I seriously could’ve used this last week. I made the common mistake. I locked myself out of a dead bolt at a customer’s house. I had just replaced the door knobs and dead bolts on all 3 exterior doors, and had just finished keying all of them to the same key. The final one, I locked myself out of. Neither the old nor the new key would turn the dead bolt. I had no idea this tool existed. I spent an hour on the phone with KwikSet customer service. Nothing worked, so they sent the customer a new cylinder with new keys for free since they warranty all of their knobs and locks. 10 days later when the part arrived, I was able to go back and replace it for her. I couldn’t apologize enough, thankfully for me, she was super understanding and not upset one bit. You can bet I will pick this thing up now and keep it in my truck just in case haha

      Aw man, that’s never fun!
      Glad you were able to recover!
      I will say that these reset tools aren’t very durable and are really built for a homeowner to do their own locks. So, it’s always a good idea to keep a few of them on your truck.

      Great video. Very detailed and presented at a good speed that is easy to keep up with. A Lot of videos are done so fast if you try to watch and look away form even a second, you miss something important or they talk about other things and get off track about what they are trying to show you. But you stay on track and show things at a good pace making it easy to follow. Thank you . I will keep watching.

    • @LockandKilo
      @LockandKilo  Рік тому +1

      The dead-bolt is even easier as once you remove the screws it’s just 1 clip to remove the core.
      A “Schlage” version by Kwikset has been around for some years now and won’t work with this cradle however.
      I have not come across the SC version in the field yet, it’s not popular and isn’t sold in stores yet.

    I have the smartkey reset tool, the red one. Mine has white instructions around the outside, not the black instructions like in the video.
    My tool does not work. I *think* the problem is that the cylinder does not go all the way down into the tool. It sticks out about a 1/16th.
    Is this a common problem with the tool? My next step is to go buy a new reset tool. Thoughts? Thx..

    • @LockandKilo
      @LockandKilo  2 роки тому

      Interesting, they may have tried white on Red before switching to Black.
      These tools are pretty notorious for failing after semi-heavy use. Without placing the plug inside, try and just turn the tool and see if anything may not be retracting or if there may be an obstruction.
      This tool new does it's job for a home owner, but for locksmiths, most don't use this tool anymore or seldom do since it tends to wear out quickly for us.

      My cradle has worked perfectly for about 10 years now. If the cylinder is t fitting all the way down. You may not have the cradle in the proper position. Also keep this in mind. If the wafers on the cylinder are damaged. Don’t attempt to use the cradle with that cylinder. Throw the cylinder away

    • @LockandKilo
      @LockandKilo  2 роки тому

      @@2815Juan I haven't had a cradle fail on me, I have just heard from many Locksmith's that they had them fail.
      I haven't really used it as heavily as some of them tho, I have used the Lishi and LockTech often times more than the cradle through my career, so it has been used sparingly lol

    • @LockandKilo
      @LockandKilo  Рік тому

      I do not normally use it as a Locksmith as they do fail, however for personal use it'll work well for a single home.
      They are designed for a home-owner to use themselves, not a Locksmith to do multiple homes per day lol

    How do you use it if it won't turn all the way to the arrow? Is the cylinder bad at that point

    • @LockandKilo
      @LockandKilo  Рік тому

      This could be a sign of the Cradle being faulty.
      If you are following all steps correctly and this happens it is normally a bad cradle.
      The black model seems to have been re-made to correct the issue, however I have heard these issues still arise on both versions.

    • @LockandKilo
      @LockandKilo  2 роки тому

      The best way to do this is to hold the bottom of the cradle firmly and rotate the top portion.
      If this isn't working, these cradles are known to commonly malfunction.

    Kilo - WHY does my cradle NOT turn when I have the cylinder inserted into the new cradle ? It just will not turn with the cylinder inserted BUT the cradle turns OK with no cylinder ?
    appreciate your comments

    • @LockandKilo
      @LockandKilo  9 місяців тому

      Hi, Dennis
      If the cradle is aligned correctly and the cylinder is properly seated it should spin with no issues. You could try and spray some lubricant in it and try it a few times and see if it rolls over. That worked on a wonky cradle I had before it finally gave out a few locks later.
      These cradles had high fail rates, I feel they were built as a one lock or one customer use type tool opposed to a long-term Locksmith tool.
      I had 1 cradle last 2 years and 1 cradle last 4 months lol
      The cradle kind of got pushed aside since the replacement cylinders are available for roughly the same cost to customers. The decoder tools available to Locksmiths are far superior, so even cradles sold today are the same quality as the old ones unfortunately.

    These are my nightmare. My staff constantly had trouble with the rekeying often so the cradles were necessary. I have had really bad luck with the cradles and the whole "smart Lock" system. BOTH colors gave us headaches. Our staff all assumed the red one was better but that might have been anecdotal and the fact we couldn't buy another red one (conspiracy theories). Ikea flatbox furniture has better instructions. Written steps would have been nice than these pictoglyphs. Making multiple trips to the maintenance shop to get tools and the cradle negates any time saved by simply repinning. And the added benefit being able to master key everything made my decision to go back to dumb locks easy. Now my guys don't have to grab and return keys between work orders. To me, Smart Lock was another false promise to make my job easier. Like LED light bulbs last 25 years so the next bulb you change will be the last before retirement...
