    Thanks for the instructions.
I re-keyed with original key, new key failed to work; old key also failed.

Extremely helpful video. Clearly pictured, lucid instructions, and no time-wasting nonsense. Using this procedure, I rekeyed a SmartKey the first time in less than 15 minutes with nothing but a pair of pliers and a small screwdriver. The locksmith shop wanted $80. Many thanks!

You, my friend, are a godsend. I was getting ready to buy the tool they sell for 45 bucks, but i found this video and was able to get my lock reset. Its 11 years later and the slide bar is slighly different but mostly the same.
There are now two clamps holding the 2 spints to the top of the slide bar. So now you must remove 2 clamps and then the 2 springs before the slide bar comes out. Then you continue the same. Just a little finicky getting holding everything tight while manuvering the springs back intoplace and the clamps back on them. Took a while but i got it And save myself $50bucks.

Unbelievable. I manage properties and we have been throwing these cylinders away?! thinking they are shot. The smartkey system is awesome, and so simple, but this time my rekey failed. Bought a house set of Kwikset Smart Key locks, multiple handsets and matching deadbolts, got them all installed and utilized the included SmartKey tool, worked great, except for the very last deadbolt. Not sure how I jacked the last one up, but it wouldn't work with the original or new key, no joy! Aerocream the brand name - TRI-FLOW - telfon lube is whats recommended by locksmith shops. Never use oil, or WD-40 as they seem to "gum up" and collect dirt / dust and more. The telfon lube is a dry lube. This is safe for just about any lock .... auto, house, boats, bicycles

Thanks for the great video. It allowed me to fix a Weiser Smart Key lock that I couldn't fix otherwise.
One note, when I took the inner pieces apart, all the wafers fell out, except one. Thank goodness for the one that didn't fall out because it allowed me to see which way to put back the other wafers. It would have been good to illustrate which way the wafers go into the lock in case they all fall out for someone.

So many bad "how to" videos out there; what a relief to find a really good one! Thanks, this saved me a bunch of money, not to mention driving around.
I did find that the "E" clip which holds the shaft onto the back of the plug tends to get sprung open slightly after it's been removed, and might fall off upon reinstallation. I had to squeeze mine together slightly with pliers so that it would "click" into place when reinstalled. Just be careful to only give a little squeeze -- those spring clips are brittle and can snap easily!
