We’re at a point where graphically we won’t see as big of leap, gameplay wise, we can still push boundaries but overall I think most of us grew up during the golden era of gaming (ps1 to ps3 personally) so I feel no matter regardless of what latest console releases, we will always fall back on nostalgia on what games in the past really made a huge impact on our lives. Those early 2000’s games really etched a special place in a lot of our hearts.
As far as graphics go, PS4 level visuals are good enough, but not with the performance you are getting. This gens games are noticeably more impressive and have higher performance, and those that are only 30fps, minus a few unoptimised titles look better still.

The PS5 has three main problems: 1. Supply issues during the first two years of its life resulted in most people sticking with PS4 rather than shell out extortionist scalper prices for the PS5. Because of this, Sony decided to make the vast majority of Playstation games that have released since the PS5 came out also available on PS4. Naturally most people just decided to stick with the PS4 since it was way cheaper and easier to get, and they could still play most new releases anyway. 2. Game devs' insistence on targeting the Switch has seriously gimped the 9th generation of gaming. Few games have been able to truly take advantage of the full power of the PS5 (and also XSX) due to games being held back to be made playable on the Switch as well. The handful that do get to take full advantage of the PS5 are typically outstanding next-gen titles, but those games are few in number unfortunately. This is also why the announcement that Sony was developing a PS5 "Pro" was mostly met with disinterest.. there's no reason at all to buy into an upgraded (and undoubtedly more expensive) PS5 when hardly any games take advantage of the base console as-is. 3. The price. We're nearing 4 years into the consoles' lifecycle and the supply issues from the covid years have been resolved. The PS5 is readily available everywhere, and yet the console STILL costs around $450-$500. You can easily get a PS4/PS4 Pro for half that price. And since the PS5 is lacking in exclusives as this point in its life coupled with Sony's decision to put most of their new games also on PS4, it makes the PS5 a very difficult sell. Overall I like the PS5. Performance-wise it blows the PS4 out of the water, and since it can play the vast majority of PS4 games I think the PS5 is the better buy for people who don't own either console. You get access to all the great games on the PS4, AND the PS5 library, AND it's future-proofed for performance as new games come out over the next several years. I think Sony is finally ready to move on from the PS4 era, and is expecting GTA6 to be the "passing of the torch" in that regard. Hopefully with Nintendo also announcing the existence of the "Switch 2", we'll start seeing devs making more games that can take better advantage of the current-gen hardware.
I like your write up. For price, remember that Sony dared to INCREASE the price for its 4 year old hardware in the UK, Australia, Mexico and Canada. Not only did Sony waste 2 years of the console's life cycle by refusing to mitigate scalpers, but now it expects us to pay MORE money for fewer years of usability.
I was thinking of buying a PC but then I saw a listing online for a used PS4 Pro that costs $180 (There's no way I'm gonna find a used PC for that price). Tho it didn't come with a controller or any games, just the console and cables. But that's not a problem cuz I bought a DS4 a couple of months back to use for gaming on emulators on my laptop. So then I just bought a second hand copy of vanilla P5 for $10 cuz royal is triple the price for some reason and now I'm having a lot of fun gaming. I still use a 1080p monitor so the resolution isn't a problem and the Pro can run games like MGS V at 60 fps and I can use super sampling to make the picture even crisper. I'm just waiting for a jailbreak to be available for my firmware to then unlock the full potential of this PS4.
I think another thing worth noting is that a lot of people still have 2k tvs, and can't even take full advantage of the ps5 without spending an additional few hundreds bucks on a new tv, too.
The Ps5 plays Ps4 games better with fast ssd load times and no frame rate drops. 155 ps4 games got the 4k/60 fps patch so far for the Ps5. The Ps5 plays all the newest AAA games. For $500 the Ps5 is worth it .
It’s just a change in perspective. Using the x86 platform means we’re just copying what is happening on PC. You can get the games running but you can have a much better experience. It all depends on what you are looking for. They did sell over 60m systems in less than 4 years, it’s amazing.
Truly next-gen games like Spider-Man 2 and Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart are truly amazing. Other games that have been upgraded for PS5 are good but this generation is severely lacking games built just for the 9th gen consoles.
PS4 games run just fine on PS4 yes PS4 games on PS5 yes there's lower load times, graphical upgrade, and better FPS but if you don't care for that they run just fine on PS4. Hell id Rather have the PS4 be like the PS5 and be backwards compatible with ps3
@@oldandnewgamer you can count on one hand how many games that actually applies to. a far cry from "a lot". PS4 games perform and load way better on a PS5

@@Hak-gion6There's nothing a PS4 does better than a 5. Even if you never play PS5 games (which why wouldn't you, games like Demon's Souls are masterpieces), a PS5 runs games leagues above a PS4 pro even. The frame rate, the graphics, the speed, the fluidity of the UI and loading. It's not even close. As someone who has both, I have never used my PS4 since December 2020 when I got my PS5.
As an above 25 year old, yeah I'm just a single player guy now 😊. But I'm getting through all the single player games I missed during my childhood while I was wasting time with live service titles 😅.
PS5 looks like a pretty nice machine but my PS4 Pro will definitely keep me entertained for many years into the future. Yesterday I took a quick glance at my backlog and counted 42 completely untouched physical releases (some PS3/X360 but the majority for PS4) plus another 25 or so that I quit playing after a few hours but plan to give a second chance later on. And then there's the shelf with PS2 and OG Xbox titles I still haven't played... An open world game usually takes me several months to finish (or grow tired of - whichever comes first), so even if I ONLY focus on the ten or so unplayed sandbox games it'll take me years to get through them. I can't really see myself getting a PS5 anytime soon. Possibly a PS6 Pro... or a PS7. 😄
Friend, I finally boxed my xbox 360 a couple months ago (200 games). Got a ps4 pro for a couple years, but now thats my main gaming hardware. It feel next gen to me 😂😂
You know it’s weird. The PS5 has sold almost the same as the PS4 in the same timeframe and had the shortage issues the PS4 didn’t. Not sure why everyone thinks it’s doing much worse than the PS4 did when it’s almost 1:1. In terms of PSN - PS3 didn’t have PS Plus and PS4 upgraded lots of the network features so there was more reasons to upgrade from PS3 to PS4.
@@tacos4419 when it launched in 2010 it was not needed for online play. It was more of an additional tier system with free games, discounts etc. cloud saves were added later. I don’t think it became mandatory for online play until the ps4 launched - ps4 needed ps plus where as ps3 did not. The service was fundamentally different on ps3.
Doesn’t matter how people think, PS5 is a failure, because it can’t make enough money, sony admitted that. Ya PS5 sold as much as PS4 in the same timeframe, but now more people play games than before, so the number is very bad, not to mention making triple A PS5 games is very expensive. Nintendo switch makes a lot of money that’s for sure, that’s why they kept delaying Nintendo Switch 2, because switch still making lots of profit.

I would guess that everyone is still on the ps4 because: 1. Ps4 games still look great 2. Most people play ps4 games on their ps5s anyway 3. Massive supply shortage that lasted so long people probably just figured they wait for the ps5 pro.
I wish the PS5 had the PS4's ui and overall physical looks. But Sorry 60FPS is just a necessity where applicable. Infinitely makes games more enjoyable.
60 fps wasn't a necessity when the world chose a 20 - 30 fps, 224P PS2 over the 60 fps 480P GameCube, Dreamcast and Xbox. It doesn't matter that much now either. 60 and above is nice, but only necessary in FPS games, in other genres, it's a welcome addition but by no means a necessity.
@@The_Prizessin_der_Verurteilung Nowadays I think it is there's no excuse. But I did say necessity where applicable. I remember 25FPS Crash Bandicoot and Gran Turismo but they feel fine since the entire architecture of those games were built on was just different

Same conversation about the ps4 and x one at this same time last generation. More people are still playing ps3 and 360! This gen has no games! Same exact headlines and social media will be saying this about next gen and praising this one.
I have both. I’ve played the same games on each. Yes load times and stuff are hands down PS5, but you need someone to point out the graphical differences. So their are more trees and others minor things. It’s just not a large enough difference for the money. In my opinion
Back in my day I already knew what I liked and didn’t like, so I didn’t need demos too determine if I liked a game or not. Although demos like for FF7 Remake and RE4 Remake are useful for showcasing to friends and family
If I am being honest I really like my ps5 and it released during a period when people didn’t have the ability to buy one right away. It been a great console for me and I can’t wait to see what next
Could be if you already have PS4, especially Pro. As for me, I'll be getting PS5 soon as I just bought a 4K TV today and sold my PS4 like 10 years ago in favour of getting a gaming PC.
The Ps4 is a great console indeed. I noticed Simpsons Hit & Run in the background. Fantastic game and for many years now i have wondered to myself, when are they gonna port that game over or remaster it. Hopefully soon.
I feel you on the single player part when you get older like me (30) you just can't keep your game up to play online, especially FPS games. And now more and more games go into online only even though when people vote, online is not the first priority. Only after actual gameplay, story etc. We've already seen a few deaths of online only games that has had their servers taken down, rendering them worthless, a game you bought for probably 60-70 euros depending where you live. You earned a sub!
I bought a ps5 in Christmas season 2023 and have no regrets. I have a ps4 as well as a ps3 so i have many games to play. I don't have any subscription gaming service as i only play single player games. I take advantage of Playstation online store sales, but I prefer to buy my games physically. I have an extensive backlog of games from the ps3, ps4 and the ps5. I also love retro style games on psn and the ability to buy a lot of ps1 ps2 classics on psn. I look forward to playing more ps5 games in the future. Happy gaming folks and God bless.

Assassin's Creed IV, GTA V, Uncharted, Last of Us, MGS 5 plus several others were ported from the PS3. The PS4 really took off 4 years after its launch. People seem to forget that. The PS5 isn't doing well but neither did the PS4 in the beginning. Only difference is Nintendo stumbled out the gate on 8th gen also
You are all tooting. I was lucky enough to get one on launch day, and I haven't taken that for granted once. PS4 games play better, and the current gen games + console exclusives have been decent enough. Now, if you don't have much disposable income, considering that it is still quite pricey, then I get it. I'm glad that you can still enjoy select titles that are still being released cross-platform. But don't kid yourselves if you can afford it, or can save up enough. The current gen games are noticeably better, and last gen games play better. Why miss out?
They will cope until gta 6 comes out if they even get their hands on one cause they waited until around launch to buy it 😂 at least that’s what I’m reading from these cheapskates
I recently bought my first Xbox one from about 10 years old. I think exactly the same way about that, than what you said about the ps5. I am 34 now and i dont even see the graphic improvements anymore😆😆
I bought a used PS4 Pro in 2020 for like $290 (because the PS5 was basically a myth back then) and I still dont feel like upgrading. There are like 3 games that intrest me on the PS5 and I'm not willing to spend $500 for 3 games.
I'm 27 years old and still, I have the PS4 on a 42 inch 4k TV, the PS5 on a 165hz monitor and a PC on a 360hz monitor- using a Dualsense 5 edge controller. And I know that if I played on the PS4-and on top of that without paddles in the back- I would be TRASH at competitive games like XDefiant and even Fortnite. But on the PS5 playing on 120fps I am literally twice as good and fast which makes you improve easier, have more input control and just see and react better. And then on the PC on controller(not keyboard player) on 240fps on any game that reaches that, I literally still get better and better at every game without even playing every day. If I did I could literally become a pro player just by being able to dedicate that much time. However, I have a life, a job with which I saved enough money to buy all the setup and a girlfriend/wife living with me. That means I only get to play 1-3 times a week if lucky! Lol life can be kind of a joke sometimes. You have everything you can wish for yet little time to enjoy it. You're used to sacrifice many things and now everything comes with a price to sacrifice. @Ydzw I had recently replaced the thermal paste, switched from the 19-blade fan to a 15-blade fan(which moves a lot more air with less power) and also replaced my power supply with an APS-226 model to work more efficient and produce less heat. My ps3 is running daily like a champ 👍

2 reasons, 1 they are still releasing all the games on ps4, and 2 (which is where I fall) we got burned by getting a ps4 only for them to release a pro version. Now we all collectively said screw you Sony, we aren't buying a 5 until the pro comes out.
P45 is literally PS4 Pro max lol… Don’t get me wrong, playing PS4 games without jet engine fan noise is so good but I was expecting more. And another thing. Where are home screen themes? Where are folders to manage your games at home screen? What happened? Are we going backwards or what?

Alternate take, PS5 consoles were difficult to obtain for a while, on top of the fact that the vast majority of games were released on both consoles and a lack of PS5 games has led to people sticking to the PS4. For me, never had a PS4. Recently picked up a PS5 and I can just get the games from PS4 and play them on the PS5. My current breakdown is about 50/50 and I go for the PS5 version first if both are available.

That is ridiculous. My PS5 does everything way better than the PS4. I have a HDMI 4.1 display so I play some games at 120Hz, the load times, the performance increase, the lack of jet engine noise, the controller. Everything is better about the PS5. I legitimately do not understand people who say PS4 is better than 5. There's nothing the PS5 does worse. My PS4 hasn't been used since I got my PS5.
I feel like alot of the disinterest in gaming, is that its competing with social media, and you can scratch your gaming itch on UA-cam and Twitch...which I find myself doing more often than I'm comfortable with. It kills any type of wonder and curiosity when you can watch your favorite streamer beat the game....or just binge a bunch of review videos to quench your wonder and curiosity. Technology is giving us more efficient ways to quell our gaming desires. Atleast for me.
PS4 Pro was the best looking PlayStation console. 4 years later I’m still not sold on the ps5 design. It’s too big, takes up too much space and I had the shape of it
100% facts. I’m considering selling my PS5 and honestly go with a Nintendo Switch instead. I never got to experience the huge catalog and handheld/portable experience so I’m looking forward to that
I’d argue that PS4 really didn’t hit its stride until about 4-5 years into its life. It’s possible, that PS5 could be on that same trajectory. Also, PS5 sales will spike with GTA VI.
PS5 is the best way to play PS4 games... You can say it have less interesting native games than native PS4 games, but still, PS4 games runs way better and faster on PS5 than on a PS4 Pro with a SSD. Like Days Gone, 4K at 60 FPS with crazy fast loading.
I won’t touch a PS5 until GTA IV is out. There are no must buy games on current gen consoles right now. It’s the worst console generation ever. The hardware is great but the software is non-existent.
Dude, ps1 is better than ps5. Games from a time where it wasn't about shareholders and money. Creativity was at its finest that gen, just look at how varied the 1400 ish titles were compared to now.
PS1 has its gems sure the graphics can be horrible but the thing most atrocious is loading.... Play the original resident evil every door you open. Then go to PS2 and the load times seem light years faster in comparison

I think whats great if you’re getting PS4 games, you don’t have to worry about upgrading currently. You are not missing out on anything. Then your building a PS4 collection, and when you want to upgrade to a PS5 its backwards compatible. I feel when the PS5 can play PS3 games, it’ll be a huge reason for myself to upgrade.
This gens games are noticeably more impressive and have higher performance, and those that are only 30fps, minus a few unoptimised titles look better still.
right now im collecting more ps3 games and ps4 games. ps3 games are slowly going up in value just like the 360 games so nows the time to get the ps3 games you want.

@RobertStevenson-uy9sjAgreed
No wonder PS2 has the best games and the best master race
@@Jay053 no arguments, get lost. No need for a PS5 if you have a PS4 or a PS4 Pro
The PS5 has three main problems:
Nice article bro ❤
I think another thing worth noting is that a lot of people still have 2k tvs, and can't even take full advantage of the ps5 without spending an additional few hundreds bucks on a new tv, too.

Wrong. Ps3 had ps plus. It came out in 2010.

But on the PS5 playing on 120fps I am literally twice as good and fast which makes you improve easier, have more input control and just see and react better.
And then on the PC on controller(not keyboard player) on 240fps on any game that reaches that, I literally still get better and better at every game without even playing every day.
I feel bad for people who wasted their money on a ps5

The Ps5 plays Ps4 games better with fast ssd load times and no frame rate drops.
155 ps4 games got the 4k/60 fps patch so far for the Ps5.
The Ps5 plays all the newest AAA games.
For $500 the Ps5 is worth it .
@@Crashed131963 so $500 for a glorified ps4 pro? 🤔
It’s too big, takes up too much space and I had the shape of it
Funny thing about Killzone Shadowfall, on PS5 with the FPS unlocked (the game has this option), it runs at 1080p @60 fps rock solid
PS5 is a glorified PS4 Pro with limited raytracing.

You can say it have less interesting native games than native PS4 games, but still, PS4 games runs way better and faster on PS5 than on a PS4 Pro with a SSD.
Like Days Gone, 4K at 60 FPS with crazy fast loading.
Bro I fired up my old ps4 pro to play Dirt Rally 2
Most consoles have been a slow burn ever since the Super Nes days. But availability of the PS5 really hurt it even more.
It's simple, really. PS5 is still ridiculously expensive. Even if I wanted 1, I couldn't afford it.
Brokie.
I've finally bought used ps5 slim for 290 usd, dont be ashamed brother buy a used one
Still have a PS4, it’s all I need for now to chill with good games.

Are you saying you don't like PS5? It's the greatest console of all time.
But a hacked PS3 with custom firmware, SSD and overclocking beats both of them
Still game on my ps4, excited for elden ring dlc dropping soon
No is not. Stop living in the past. The PS5 has the much better controller, speed, and can also play PS4 games even better.
The fact you're using your PS5 to play PS4 games just proves the PS4 is better lol
Most games for the ps5 can be played on the ps4, I have a ps4 so why would I need to upgrade? The loading times aren't that bad for me and the loud sound the cooling system makes mostly stopped for me when I cleaned the dust off.
@@Vivi_9they are just games , they aren’t glued to each console ! Just because those games were made during that time doesn’t mean Sony is even responsible for them! P5 is better have fun getting left behind when the biggest game of all time comes out and it runs like crap on your console
@@Lili-bg4hg lol I don't have a PS4 or PS5, I will get a PS5 or 6 eventually as there are some decent games I've missed out on, all the best games are in the past though and have made the purchase of current gen unnecessary for a long time
As for multiplayer ahooters. Try titanfall 2 on any platform or battlefield bad company 2 on custom pc servers. You won't be disappointed. People praise these games for a reason. Graphics are ok, but gameplay is GOAT
Nobody with half a brain denies this and it's not just PS5, but Xbox Series X too. This 9th console generation is pitiful. Two years wasted because Sony refused to stop scalpers, barely any noteworthy games and a price increase for aging hardware. Sony is taking advantage of good graces gained from PS4 just like it did with the PS2 and Xbox forgot it's a gaming console and can't even get its name right, let alone the physical design and UI.
I would find it quite annoying to have 3 consoles.
One for PS5 games only, which there still arent any besides SH2 thats not even out yet.
Then still have to use a PS3 for ps3 games.
Making you use 2 consoles still.
I love the PS4! I just wish instead of cross platforming for the PS4, they did PS4 Pro & 5 titles.
Putting an SSD in a PS4 Pro is a beast already.
