PS2 Era - Developers squeezed blood from a stone with a console that, compared to what we have today, was a grain of sand in power. A marvelous respect and intelligence in using the tool they had at hand to create everything and then some up to the limit of what could be achieved. PS5 Era - Super powerful console, cutting-edge technology, fast internet with Wifi, SSD, tactile controller, and 4K resolution. Result -> Incomplete and buggy games released that mostly require periodic updates, graphics no longer efficiently extract all that the console can offer, services that exploit the consumer, such as releasing DLCs of content that could have been part of the game already released in its final version (as it was in the PS2 era), and finally, a lack of creativity and love for creating fun games with deep and memorable stories (let's admit that nowadays the focus is still mostly on 'pay to win' online games with expensive skins). Best generation of gaming systems. The good old days when you didn't have to download large gigabytes worth of software just to play a game. Just set up the console, put the disk in, power it up, and you're ready to go.
I can definitely relate to this, after finishing a handful of games on PS5 i started feeling burned out and opted for some less time consuming games on the PS2 while tackling some old backlog games. So far I played Bujingai: The Forsaken City, Tsugunai: Atonement, now working on Crimson Sea 2. All of these games are just fun to me, I think part of whats hurting modern gaming is the trophy system, it causes people to overplay games doing boring, monotonous tasks to for arbitrary "completion". PS2 is just a fun console with easy to pick up and play games for any genre, tons of games that were clearly experimental but still creative and fun without the bloated amount of sidequests. I still think PS2 is the greatest console Sony ever made.
That is a good point. No need to worry about finding collectibles on games back then if you didn't want to. Now almost every game has them for trophy reasons

there was a Tony Hawk 1&2 remaster for PS4/PS5 that came out in 2020- there’s some things added to it as well. Will agree though as far as going back and playing on the PlayStation2 it’s definitely more of an experience, I’ve been playing Silent Hill 2 and having been really enjoying it (spite the scary ass fog atmosphere)
I still have a PS2 myself. The games I have in my collection right now is Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X2, Sonic Mega Collection Plus, Sonic Heroes, Tony Hawk's Underground, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas & Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Also don't forget, if you have a PS2 it will play like 99 percent of the PS1 library, which I have 2 games currently in Syphon Filter 2 & Fear Effect.
Hey Basement Gamer, really like your videos and sense of humour, i also got into collecting for the ps2 and ps3 recently, and just wanted to let you know that there is a adaptor for the ps2 and ps3 which allows you to connect a ps5/4 controller to them wirelessly, I think the brand is called Brook and i paid about £30 each, makes playing the older consoles even better.
i honestly 100% agree with what you said in the entirety of this video. my fiancee and i are pretty divided. we have a lot of retro / older games & consoles, and we have the newer (for the sake of this comment i am counting newer as being Switch, Xbox One, Series X, PS4, & PS5). as far as the quantity of the games we have they are pretty even, we both find ourselves playing the newer games more than the older, BUT .. we do get pretty burnt out on a lot of the B.S. that comes with the newer games and we binge into our older games at that point. plus to help keep from getting to burnt out i like to rotate games so i'll play a newer game then after go to an older game, so on. Every year for the entire month of October i play "Halloween" (or Halloween adjacent) games and i personally love the ones from the older generations. with all that being said, my fiancee & i don't have gamepass, we don't see the point in it (for us) , i stopped playing online multiplayer because i just got too burnt out on it so i play solo games /mode, and we both agreed that if moving forward that the companies try to force all digital we were going to be done and just stick strictly to our older games. they are more fun than 90/5 of what's being put out, they have a lot of nostalgia , and be it good or bad, they are all (depending on the area that DLC's started) on the disc/cartridge. so..that's my ramblings,. thanks for listening and happy gaming all
It ain't worth getting a PS5. I have no words for the PS5, so I'd rather get a PS1, PS2, PSP, PS3, PS Vita, PS4 more than a PS5. The PS2 was an awesome console.
There will obviously be a great game here and there in the future, but innovation seriously lacks outside of the visuals these days. Good thing we have an absolute ton of good games already released for many many years.
Reason why PlayStation fanboy and dedicated lover - PS5 being my last PlayStation console. I’m going back to PS2, PS3 times and some PS4 - it has such amount of masterpieces that it will do me for life, rather than hoping for tomorrow which may never come.
I think the PS2 is the sweet spot where it's the last console generation where you can just plug and play. There's something so refreshing about that. No endless updates, wi-fi connections, and no game installs. Literally just put a cd in and it just works. For that reason, the games are so complete as there's no updates to fix broken games. PS3 is an awesome console with a wonderful library of games, but I feel like the generation was starting to get clogged up with all the updates and game installs which make it a much harder sell for me to go back to, as it's a similar experience to playing the ps5, just with older (and probably better) games.
The Getaway on ps2 ❤so good. Anyway i still have a PS3. Love Fight Night Champion and the Dirt Showdown game. Waiting for a game that makes the newer consoles a must buy. A Max Payne game maybe, Simpson's Hit n Run remake. I'll die before that ever happens.
This guy's eyes and tone of voice are so jaded, this is the perfect opinion for him to discuss it's hilarious. I agree btw. I don't even own a PS5 and don't feel like it cause I have my PS2 plugged it. Those shoes could never be filled by another home console.
Completely agree. The sixth console gen (Dreamcast, PS2, GameCube and Xbox) was the greatest time to be a gamer. Each of the four systems was unique and worth owning.
@@leecroft1983 yep. So many games. I read old xbox and playstation magazines. There were so many games to chose from. Now not so much. When a game comes out it you got to download it. Wait and wait. i cant even blame anyone still and currently playing ps2 to this day. heck a couple days ago i resurfaced my copy of Midnight club 3 remix after going through some stuff in the attic, and i already made it to detroit in those 2 days. i can get insanely mad at that game but i still think its one of th best games on the ps2. never even seen tokyo when i played it back in the day, so wish me luck i suppose. game is S tier.
I recently started getting into PS2 again, I been using OPL to play games I dint get a chance to back in the day. Back then I didn't see what Metal Gear Solid series was such a big deal, well I've played through MGS2 and now finishing MGS3 and I can see why they are classics! I also have a PS5 and I haven't even touched it in months, hardly any games in it, the only thing I been waiting on is in the Elden Ring DLC to finally dropped after like 3 years!!!
library of games, AND crt tv with the glow, contrast, smoothness and color combo is unbeatable. Especially on the PS2 and Gamecube There are certain newer games I want to play on newer consoles like Ghosts of Tsushima, Nier Automata, and The Last Guardian, but I don't think the library is as iconic from the 6th gen consoles
bro..... after listening to your comments, I feel the sentiments are felt by all gamers... I prefer my ps3.... and I have got heavy into emulation.... I really enjoy the old stuff better.... even with an emulator... I can set one up from scratch and get all the settings how I like them for good visuals, etc., in less than 10 minutes..... and then the games now are crap because they rush them out to the public knowing the consumers will pay a lot of money for a crap game that they can just patch later on.....as if there is no more Quality Assurance.... I remember when they would get the public to sample their games and give feed back way before final production.... don't hear about it too much... perfect example... I bought Metroid Dread and got stuck for hours..... I finally had to go online to research and find out there was a programing discrepancy and I had to wait for a patch...... what kind of BS is that?
Bro I’m collecting more classic games than Current Gen Games. This Generation just ain’t it! Feels like the PS3 2.0 again. PS1-PS2 All Day everyday. PS3 started making movie like Games and I still don’t care to play those no more than once. I rather play Video Games like we used to on the first 2 Gens of PlayStation!
I like the classic games on my ps2 but I enjoy not having a loading screen like playing games on my n64. I wish modern consoles and pc games did not have a loading screen during the era of game consoles that uses cartridges like the original nintendo, sega genesis, n64 and etc. I just want to be able to go to the main menu when I turn on the console without needing to download a any updates, patches and needing to rely on an internet connection. I miss the days when it was literally just plug and play. Nowadays we have to create an account, have an internet connection and pay for streaming services instead of just paying once and get to keep the physical copies as long as the physical copies still works and being repairable at repair shops for the consoles or any type of physical media that supported physical media content. The option for physical media is becoming niche and it sucks because most things are full of micro transactions similar to ala carte for food but non food related stuff.

i honestly 100% agree with what you said in the entirety of this video. my fiancee and i are pretty divided. we have a lot of retro / older games & consoles, and we have the newer (for the sake of this comment i am counting newer as being Switch, Xbox One, Series X, PS4, & PS5). as far as the quantity of the games we have they are pretty even, we both find ourselves playing the newer games more than the older, BUT .. we do get pretty burnt out on a lot of the B.S. that comes with the newer games and we binge into our older games at that point. plus to help keep from getting to burnt out i like to rotate games so i'll play a newer game then after go to an older game, so on. Every year for the entire month of October i play "Halloween" (or Halloween adjacent) games and i personally love the ones from the older generations. with all that being said, my fiancee & i don't have gamepass, we don't see the point in it (for us) , i stopped playing online multiplayer because i just got too burnt out on it so i play solo games /mode, and we both agreed that if moving forward that the companies try to force all digital we were going to be done and just stick strictly to our older games. they are more fun than 90/5 of what's being put out, they have a lot of nostalgia , and be it good or bad, they are all (depending on the area that DLC's started) on the disc/cartridge. so..that's my ramblings,. thanks for listening and happy gaming all
love this guy
It's like he speaks my mind
It's the best console of all time. Every genre had many of the best games of all time.
PlayStation 4 right with it
43y old and bought back a PS2 with a ton of games... damn this is still so much fun. PS5 for sale!
It ain't worth getting a PS5.
I have no words for the PS5, so I'd rather get a PS1, PS2, PSP, PS3, PS Vita, PS4 more than a PS5.
The PS2 was an awesome console.
This video could have been titled "the PS2 is better than the PS5" nobody would have had a valid argument on why.
Thank you for mentioning that PS2 games are complete out of the box. No updates required! PS2 was the last generation that did that.
There will obviously be a great game here and there in the future, but innovation seriously lacks outside of the visuals these days. Good thing we have an absolute ton of good games already released for many many years.
This. To expensive for them to innovate and take risks?
Reason why PlayStation fanboy and dedicated lover - PS5 being my last PlayStation console.
I’m going back to PS2, PS3 times and some PS4 - it has such amount of masterpieces that it will do me for life, rather than hoping for tomorrow which may never come.
i feel you bro, i love ps2 as well..
I still love you man!
1990 to 2005 is the best ERA for whatever thing you take, eg. sports, movies, games, childhood..etc
Youre funny man. Love the vids
This guy's eyes and tone of voice are so jaded, this is the perfect opinion for him to discuss it's hilarious. I agree btw. I don't even own a PS5 and don't feel like it cause I have my PS2 plugged it. Those shoes could never be filled by another home console.
Don’t have a PS2 but an OG Xbox. Has most of the same games. And I feel the same way.
I am the same, when i got my ps5 i connected to my tv, and i started playing Grand Turismo 4 on my ps2 😅. Love my ps2
I realy like your Channel keep going you will be a great channel soon . Up from France
I love your random jibba jabba basement gamer keep it coming buddy!
100% agree still enjoying my pS2 console till this day and i don't need to know how big AAA game will be release on PS5
Have to agree man, I loved the PS2, they created any game for it under the sun haha, I have one myself and enjoy it
Totally agree. I spend more time with my ps2 and original xbox. I have an xbox series x. I gave up on ps5 thank god. Never had one never will.
Finally start playing and realize man this kinda sucks. Then you wait for them to fix it. By then I've got into and old game. Never go back to the half finished game.
I still play my original one I got at age of 12 now I'm 31 it still plays I took it apart cleaned it and put it up saving it for my boy now I have a refurbished ps2 slim and been playing my original gta san andreas on it I love ps2
As someone that has a digital PS5, Ive said the same thing. The disc drive looked like a last minute add-on
PS2 is the best selling gaming console of all time at 150 million sold.
Recently been collecting for my ps3 again and loving the thing, for 200$ I can get like 5-10 games where as the ps5 ya get 2 games, not saying the ps5 is bad but going back in time can just be a great way to restore your love in gaming cuz what it once was was something special.
Felt this as a ps5 owner who still has like 2 dozen ps2 games on my phone that I play daily
i cant even blame anyone still and currently playing ps2 to this day. heck a couple days ago i resurfaced my copy of Midnight club 3 remix after going through some stuff in the attic, and i already made it to detroit in those 2 days. i can get insanely mad at that game but i still think its one of th best games on the ps2. never even seen tokyo when i played it back in the day, so wish me luck i suppose. game is S tier.
me casually watching the video as my pizza cooks in the oven 😂
I did the same earlier 😂
I recently started getting into PS2 again, I been using OPL to play games I dint get a chance to back in the day. Back then I didn't see what Metal Gear Solid series was such a big deal, well I've played through MGS2 and now finishing MGS3 and I can see why they are classics! I also have a PS5 and I haven't even touched it in months, hardly any games in it, the only thing I been waiting on is in the Elden Ring DLC to finally dropped after like 3 years!!!
I appreciate old games like on the ps2 I like game that look like video games and now everything is about being photo realistic.
Exactly!!
Love the vids man keep up the awesome work...❤❤❤
library of games, AND crt tv with the glow, contrast, smoothness and color combo is unbeatable. Especially on the PS2 and Gamecube
There are certain newer games I want to play on newer consoles like Ghosts of Tsushima, Nier Automata, and The Last Guardian, but I don't think the library is as iconic from the 6th gen consoles
bro..... after listening to your comments, I feel the sentiments are felt by all gamers...
I have one too. It emulates off my XBOX Series X at 8K.
Can you upload more videos, about anything? Your rant videos are comforting before bed 😂 even my wife agrees
It also feels like we are all at that point again like in the 2000s when the ps2 came out all they had was time splitters and had to wait for games
I still have my PS2 slim silver and have Shadow Hearts Covenant on it probably my favorite game.
Man that game is expensive but I see it every once in a while at my local game store. I've never played it. I've only heard good things though.
@@toasty3719 Pretty cool I have such a rare pricey game like that, its in excellent condition too.
A console is definied by its games. The PS5 has almost none.
