Not only Morrison was capturing the audience but he also had his bandmates surpass themselves

You may notice there is no bass player. The keyboardist, Ray Manzarek is playing the bass-line with his left hand.

Thank you for your useful information. The phrases played by the keyboardist, Ray Manzarek, are really wonderful!!!

At first I thought a studio version would be a better choice for a first listen, but you appreciated and understood Morrison's theatricality, so this live version gives a better understanding of what The Doors were all about. They are still, to this day, a unique band... though some front men have been inspired by Jim, no one tries to exactly replicate what he did. He _owns_ that kind of performance.

Back in the 60’s we would dance to this song with strobe lights giving it a psychedelic feel.

Keyboardist Ray Manzarek was the band's bassist too - he's shown in this video playing a keyboard bass with his left hand, as was done in all their live performances & recordings.

Some of their album recordings had a bass player on them.

This was at the Hollywood Bowl, and was a stellar performance by the doors. Jim was riveting (it was the night after the Fourth of July, so there were fireworks. Jim played wi🎉 sparklers at one point) . Mick Jagger came in (late), to watch from front row. Great evenung.

Los Angeles based band . A very intellectual band that could play rollicking blues style too . The band got a little more commercial on some albums , but always kept things interesting . The were scuffles between the youth and the authorities then , but it seemed this band wanted a serious rebellion . " They got the guns but we got the numbers ... "

Loved your commentary on the song. Yes you never knew what to expect from Jim Morrison on stage. He could be subdued as he was here or just go completely wild. Every concert was different and he even got arrested at one of them lol. Anyway, looking forward to more of your reviews.

Dark and calm? Yes. But not always. Terrific musicians, but Jim Morrison grabbed the eye and kept it focused on himself.

Hey from New Mexico, USA. 1967 was a great year. There is a film of the Monterey Pop fest I *highly recommend. With Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, Simon & Garfunkel, the Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Otis Redding, Ravi Shankar, Eric Burdon and more. It was a historic fest, and so was Woodstock (1969). Peace to all

Great choice for an iconic 60's song. I just happily stumbled upon your channel by chance. I don't know if you'd cover music like this in the future but I would love to hear your thoughts on 1980's Japanese jazz/fusion artists like Casiopea, Masayoshi Takanaka and Toshiki Kadomatsu. Wishing you all the best with your channel 😀

Don't you like Jim Morrison's pants? This guy doesn't know anything, that's the gimmick! I like how... I haven't seen this live performance either!! I've heard the song hundreds of times, I saw a band cover it live at a student coop in Berkeley in 1982, maybe 1981, and I've tried to learn how to play it, just on guitar of course, the beginning chords are kind of tricky. I think they're G, D, F Bb Eb Ab A. The Doors played the songs in a free-form improvised way, maybe "Strange Days," the title song of the second Doors album, or "Break On Through," the first song on The Doors, their first album. The four band members had equal say in the band's music and ownership of the music. ua-cam.com/video/Ph2nE2EA8ts/v-deo.html Haunting.

You should listen to the studio recordings, first. Even better if recently remastered for digital technology. Later, the live versions. Because of technical limitations of those years.

Can you use better quality headphones?
I really recommend using better headphones for listening to the Doors.
Average headphones leave a lot to be desired.
If you can get a copy of the Best of the Doors CD, that would make a very good night of listening, with quality headphones.

Pretty artistic wasn't it? Rather Buddhist flavored I would say. Birth and death. Light my fire for the sex act while all the time we are burning out and will ourselves eventually die. Like embers. I'm 74. When this hit I was convinced we were about to witness a Buddhist revolution in America with these Hippies. But it turned out to be more of a summer fad I am afraid. You could throw a rock and not hit any Buddhists in these parts nowadays. Hello from old days really like your presentation, your insights are amazing to hear-very accurate to my mind and memory of how it is to be told.

I love the Doors and have since the moment I heard the first few bars of this monster hit in...was it 1967? An amazing summer of music but nothing drew more attention than Jim Morrison and The Doors. This live performance is ridiculous....not in a good way.
