Your Dad is right these guys were banned from the Ed Sullivan show when they initially agreed to change the lyrics to this song but sang the original lyrics live anyway.. Lead singer Jim Morrison called himself the Lizard King and the band was well known for their drug influenced psychedelic music. He was a poet of the counterculture. Unfortunately Jim was a tragic member of the 27 club and left us far to soon
Jim Morrison, poet, singer, artist. Gone too soon. Ray Manzarak; Robby Krieger; John Densmore. Love the honesty of your reactions, ladies. You're listening to the gold standard of music. ( More Doors).
Guitarist Robbie Kreiger wrote this great song and keyboardist Ray Manzarek added the intro, its in the top 100 greatest rock songs of all time. Its one of those rare songs I can never get tired of listening too.
It's hard to recount what it was like to be 15, in 1967, and to hear a style of music that had NEVER been done before. It was pure magic back then....and it still is.
IT is difficult for young people today to listen patiently to an instrumental part since it is not done today, but I congratulate them because it is the beauty of discovering new music
Regarding the bass: "The Doors lacked a bass guitarist (except during recording sessions), so for live performances Manzarek played the bass parts on a Fender Rhodes piano keyboard bass."
When I was your age, when my parents told me “Don’t look too much into the lyrics”, that was a direct challenge to pay very close attention to the lyrics! And it was about the time I was your age when I realized just exactly what Light My Fire was really all about. You’re learning, ladies!
Thats why I like the reaction videos. I dont think I paid that much attention to the meaning of lyrics, but whether they flowed. Still trying to figure Louie Louie though.
The Doors is a rabbit-hole, deep, dark and wide. "Light My Fire" is the entrance. This song exploded across the summer of '67 in a way I've seldom seen before or since, and permanently claimed the year as its own. It also pointed up the sharp distinction between FM radio (which played the entire song) and AM radio (which played the single version that had the instrumental solos cut out). Getting into The Doors is one of those rite-of-passage things, which changes your perspective on nearly everything. You can kind of tell by looking at them which teenagers have found The Doors, and which have not. You'll find the Doors fans are much more interesting.
I'm pretty late to this party, but it goes beyond that....The Doors rarely used a bass player live, and only now and then in the studio. For the most part the bass parts are played by Ray on one keyboard with his left hand, at the same time he's playing the lead part on a different keyboard with his right. They weren't a band interested in overdubs much in the studio, so for the most part, what you hear on record is them laying down the bulk of the track live. Remarkable and somewhat under valued keyboard player.
The key is - they were all serious students of jazz, blues and flamenco before they walked into the studio, so they had a level of subtlety and sophistication that makes their music timeless.
The keyboardist is Ray Manzarek & the bass you're hearing is a Fender keyboard bass, which he had on top of his Vox organ. He'd play the bass with his left hand & play the organ with his right.
The Doors are solo-ing and you are giggling about it....dont worry, you are great. If someone says they lost faith in the world I would recommend watching Dana’s Faith
Jim Morrison is so dark mysterious and dangerous and pretty to look at --- he takes you on a journey that your not sure you want to follow but cant help yourself --- you are a bit young for a couple of their songs but I cant say nothing because I was very young when they first caught my attention --- I love so many of their songs --- Riders on the Storm -- Waiting for the Sun -- Moonlight Drive -- When the Musics Over --- I do hope you will listen to more
Well now that you've been turned on to The Doors you simply MUST hear more! Riders On the Storm, Love Street, Texas Radio and the Big Beat, The End, L.A. Woman, Road House Blues. The list goes on and on. Dig it. You guys are so cute.
Girls, I am a big fan of the doors and have heard this song many times. But your reactions and sense of wonder to it made me appreciate how truly beautiful the song actually is - in its composition and execution. Thank you for renewing my enthusiasm for this song!
Yeah, crazy, they actually played instruments back in the day. Glad you discovered, there's tons more where that came from. To get the full impact of the group and the late 60s (if your parents allow), recommend you watch the 1991 movie "The Doors", where Val Kilmer amazingly portrays Jim Morrison.

The girls made a great musical point that all the musicians are playing in the same key and using the same cords but independently traveling on there own musical journey. Light My Fire has been, is now and will always be my favorite song all time for eternity.
Jim had the voice, and the band had three of the most criminally underrated musicians of the 60s (John Densmore - drums; Ray Manzarek - keyboards; Robby Krieger - guitar...and no bass necessary). Glad you chose this...
The Doors is one of the first bands that I ever fell in love with, my favorite song by them is Roadhouse Blues! If you want some of Jim Morrison's more interesting vocal performances I recommend Alabama Song (Whisky Bar) and Love Street.

Doors have done many great songs, one is Love me two times, Riders of the storm. The lead singer of the Doors Jim Morrison are married in Paris, France. People are still visiting his grave. He was an icon to many at that time.
There are tons of songs you will love from them. L.A. Woman, Riders Of The Storm, Touch Me and Roadhouse Blues. Plus you need to see Jim Morrison perform on video. He had that look that would melt your heart.
