So, Jim Morrison (lead singer) and the rest of this band were more focused and energetic when they weren't stoned. A rare time when the studio version is more worthwhile than a live performance.

My favorite band ever!!! not coincidence I have in my profile pic: Jim Morrison...... but this live show is so hardcore for your first introduction to the this great band .. .the singer Jim Morrison is a legend , he was the epitome of the rock star .. he was wild, crazy ,unpredictible , caused riots ...first ever singer arrested live onstage ..yet very intelligent , a poet ...The Doors have amazing songs :Riders of The Storm , LA Woman ,Roadhouse Blues......and many more .... there's a movie, a biopic about them made by Oliver Stone , the recreation of the concerts, music is great .. the portrayal of Jim , not so much

That is my favorite band ever, no coincidence I have Jim Morrison as my profile picture.
This live show is so hardcore for your first introduction to this great band.
The vocalist John Morrison is a legend, he was the epitome of a rock star(wrong, Elvis), he even caused riots, he was wild yet very intelligent, a poet.
The doors have amazing song like Riders of the storm, LA woman, Roadhouse blues and many more, there's even a biopic about them made by Oliver Stone, the recreation of the concerts and the music is great, the portrayal of Jim is less great.

Most musicians click with the Doors immediately. They were a unique eclectic mix of musicians and the music showcases that. They're improvisational nature is along the lines of the top-tier Jazz musicians and their willingness to explore the frontiers of art drama and theatre is one of a kind. The cool thing about it is they weren't trying to do anything but what they felt. Bands wiithout limits are always the best. Jim was pretty much one of the first punk rockers. He was a rebel and artist by nature. He was also a genius so there ya go. He was one heck of a poet. Truth is he was a revolutionary and he was ahead of his time.

The best way to describe The Doors is that they are artists. Their lyrics, use of instruments and just overall style is a canvas of emotion and colour!

You need to check out the end from the Hollywood Bowl different lyrics than in the studio version(not much) and just enjoy the ride the whole band takes you. I know you've done the studio version but the Hollywood bowl live version is just as awesome.

Jim Morrison the lead singer is in the 27 club. Growing up it was said he was not dead and living in Paris or some place like that. He had kind of a cult following. Every time I hear this song Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit" and Jessica (he future Mrs. Clause) singing" My World is Beginning Today" I think of people having an acid trip.
Jose Feliciano (The guy who sings Feliz Navida) also had a hit with this song. Of course it sounded a lot different and not so long.

The Doors are great. If you like movies check out the Doors with Val Kilmer playing Jim Morrison. He had a cover band before he was an actor so he does all the singing for the part.
Other good Doors songs are "People are strange", "Alabama Song", and "The end"
Please also try Benny Goodman. He's from the 30's/40's and he ran a big band, swing music. My favorite is "Clarinet a la King" but his most popular song is "sing, sing, sing (with a swing)"

The Doors didn't have a bass player. Ray Manzarek was the keyboard player and he played the bass line at the same time on his keyboards! Check out the album version of "Love Street"👍👌✌😎

Live they didn't some of the studie tracks is only ray like when the music's over, unhappy girl, some is with bass and ray fender rhodes bass, like light my fire and take it as it comes. But there is also songs without ray, like, peace frog, that is a real bass line, he played it different live tho. But you're right live there is only himself, and bonus, he was also choir, he was backing vocal on songs like hello i love you, break on through to the other side, when i started to listen to the doors i played bass, NO i play like ray. I learned it just for the doors and I love it.

Oh yeah I love this song. The Doors are wonderful. Jim Morrison was a hard person to get along with but he was a musical genius. To use your words, "I promise you will not be disappointed" if you react to 4th Impact. Here is their version of "This Is Me" @.
Another singer you might like that does the voice thing you were talking about, Peter Frampton "Show Me The Way" @ or "Baby I Love Your Way" @.

They were HUGE in 1968-til Morrison's death in 71. He was the "bad boy" of rock. He was arrested for exposing himself on stage and used way too many drugs.

Jim Morrison had such a great voice. In the 60s there weren't really opportunities to see bands. They either went on a variety show like Ed Sullivan or lip synched on American Bandstand. So this is the first time I've actually seen them play. Morrison died of an overdose at 27.

A strange gig. They had all these stacked Marshall Amps but were told the sound had to be a certain level or they would pull the plug. Morrison dropped acid before they went onstage. And the guitarist's volume was stuck on 2 for the whole gig. It's a great gig but rather flat and the lighting was out of their control. The band were none to pleased because their live shows were electric at that stage in their career. It's like they got muted. But its the best live document we have of them, unfortunately.

    • @thedoorswin163

Ya true.... But John lord also use 2 hands for solos, deep purple have a bass player, live the doors never have, so he play this solo AND keep the simple bass beat going with left hand, much more impressive

This show is the best color film of the Doors but not their best performances. Jim was sick of Light My Fire and rushed through it other than after the break for a few lines.

Not great musically???? You're out of your freaking mind. Plus I call BS that you've seen them a few times because if you have you'd say one of the best shows I've ever seen no matter if Jim was fucked up or not I know it would of been one of the highlights of my life if I would of seen one of the greatest bands that ever played on this earth .
