Me too! Nail peeling is a real issue. My nails seem to be pretty healthy and everyone always comments that how good/healthy my nails are but my nail paint never stays on for longer than 2 days and starts to peel. Been using jojoba oil for last 2 months after watching these videos and just got the CND stuff 2 days ago, however, would love for your to dive deeper into this subject of nail peeling. Thank you so much!

I’ve been using the new OPI Repair Mode and my biggest issue is peeling nails that are otherwise healthy and I am happy to say that my nails are much improved. I was skeptical bc I tried everything in the past and have been practicing gentle manicures for almost a year now. I hope this helps you!

Me too. I wouldn’t call my nails healthy, but I don’t ever buff them and I use no nail products. Basically I keep them short. I was a jazz guitarist for many years but I could never grow my picking nails very long because they tend to crack and break. The thumb nails are ridged and almost concave in the middle. I haven’t played for two years, so now I keep all my nails short. Recently I tapped my little finger nail against the base of a faucet and the entire nail split vertically all the way down into the cuticle. I’m very concerned about it and am afraid I’ll lose that nail altogether. I was thinking of gluing on an acrylic nail to keep the nail intact, but I’m scared to use solvents and glues. I fear nail glues will make the nail even worse. So I’m very interested in a video that would address splitting nails in people who haven’t damaged their nails by buffing or using unhealthy products. Thank you for this video. I’ll try the jojoba oil! But would it further damage the split nail if it got into the exposed skin under it?? Thanks again for such a truly educational and helpful video.

I have hypothyroidism and not sure if it contributed but I had a vertical split in my pointer finger for many years. I saw many nail techs without help and even some dermatologists. The agreed idea was the only help was to pull the nail and allow it to heal and regrow because nothing else was working. Then pandemic happened and I put it off because I am a nurse and couldn't be out of work for the amount of time required to heal from the surgery since I need my hands. I decided to try builder gel without buffing my nails because my nails are incredibly thin already. After a year my nail completely grew back without any splitting. My builder gel does not last long enough for a back fill like other people but I am completely okay with that. The support it adds is what I want. I love it so much.

Thank you Anna! It’s been 5 months since I’ve found your channel and started following your advice. My nails have transformed tremendously and I grew out almost all of the damage! Rescue RX has been doing a lot for me, have been using it twice a day. Love the warm oil soak too but somehow don’t do them as often. As a bonus I applied your ideas to my toes as well. Thought they were pretty ok but boy have they improved!

Wanted to add a comment about the "consistency" piece. They say that you have to do something 20 times before it becomes a habit. Even then, it's easy to get out of the habit. In February, I saw your video and started oiling my nails and proximal and lateral folds after every hand wash in addition to at bedtime. It took about 2 weeks, but they became smooth and pretty, which they had never been in my life. I kept this up faithfully for 2 months, until my family life hit a few snags and things got crazy. I had taken off my polish with the intent to put on new, and never had the chance. One week later, I was still without polish and my folds were starting to tear again and i realized I hadn't done a thing to them in a week!! I was amazed at how quickly they got bad again once i "fell off the wagon"! :) I'm back on now, and of course they're improving and will be back to good in another week or two. (Hello, my name is Julie and I'm a nail care addict.) At least for me, having nice folds and decent nails, really does require dedication and work. Love love love you and your videos! So much appreciate that you present the science and the logic behind what you believe in. Please don't ever stop!! ❤❤❤❤❤ Please plan to come to the US to do a "tour". I will sign up for a consult in a heartbeat!!

When times get crazy you need something to help you feel good about yourself so get that addiction. If the oil runs out there are alternatives like olive oil, hand cream, Vaseline, lip balm, heel balm etc you can use until you can get the good stuff, no excuses allowed.👍

My nails have completely healed from past damage and I am continuing to learn from your wonderful videos. I wear polish only for special occasions but I do have a split on my index finger on my right hand that just will not heal no matter what I do. I’ve tried all the recommended products in this video and have used them religiously but nothing has fixed it. If anything it seems to be getting worse and splitting further down my nail. I would greatly appreciate a video and anything for help. Thanks again for the great advice and all that you do!

Yes please! I’d love to hear additional information about weak, thin, splitting nails. I do not buff mine. In addition to weak and thin my nails are easily chipped. By chipping I mean a piece of nail breaks out very easily…for instance when I put on a necklace with a lobster claw clasp…the nail breaks in the shape of the clasp. Thank you for your videos!

I’ve had great results following the advice and videos. I realized that nail polish does affect the surface of my nails, I only leave it on now a week at a time at the most. Then I get back to oil soaks, and daily care. Enjoying my natural nails just as much as my occasional painted ones now! 👍💗

    • @jessicapeppler5444

I made the same discovery! I started using Dazzle Dry at the end of 2019 and because it lasts so well I'd leave my manicure on for 10-14 days. After two back-to-back manicures I'd have surface damage, sometimes even after only one manicure. When this happened I'd leave my nails naked and do the oil soaks until they got better, then repeat the cycle 🤦🏻‍♀. I never had this issue with regular polish, which would only ever last about 6-7 days max before I'd have to remove it. For years I thought the damage was caused by the acetone I use to remove DD but recently realized that the damage was from leaving the DD on for too long! Like you, I've also found that when I'm caring for my nails and they're healthy that I enjoy them just as much naked as I do when they're polished ❤

I’ve been in the beauty industry for 40 years, and to hear you explain everything so explicitly, and so easy to follow makes me very proud of you and the education you have given. I’ve been fighting a split nail for sometime and I’ve taken internal supplements and hasn’t seemed to help but like you say it’s all about consistency. Tonight I’m trying a new technique where i have used castor oil as I am now a huge fan of castor oil for various other reasons so I thought I would try it on my cuticles and see if that would help. Thank you again for your brilliant explanations and you’ve made me very proud of you in our industry.

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  6 місяців тому +1

      Hello and welcome :))
I think castor oil can be great for skin and lips for example but for the purpose of plasticising the nail is not great because it's a very slow absorbing oil.
It won't be able to penetrate/absorb into the nail plate nearly as well as jojoba.

Hi Anna!!! This is EXACTLY the video I needed!!!! When I tried dip powder I developed split nails on two of my fingers like you have pictured. I started doing the warm oil soaks and using my cuticle oil more frequently. I also tried nail full cover tips which caused horrible ridges near my lunula. I’m still in the process of growing that damage out. Since following your nail care routine my nails are so much better. I take breaks from wearing polish and I use regular polish like Dazzle Dry, OPI, ORLY, and Sally Hansen. I’m hesitant about using dip powder again. I will try gel polish occasionally in the future once the damage on my nails have grown out. I thank you so much for your expert advice!! You have helped me so so much! Blessings to you!! 🥰❤️🙏🏾🤗

No more gel overlays for me!! It has worked and would like to send you fotos of them now, it’s taken me 4 months of patiently doing all what I mentioned and now I am reluctant to use regular nail polish and prefer to let them grow healthy. I use a glass file and it’s so much gentler. I rarely wore nail polish until a few years ago, and then stopped after about a year, because I was worried that I was damaging my nails. That was several years ago now. I started to use DermaNail, after hearing one of your videos, but it's only been a few weeks, so I don't know how well it will work. Is there anything else that I can do? What causes the ridges?

My thumbnail vertically split when I was 19. I'm 60 now and have never been able to keep the nail long. I rarely wear nail polish and my nails are strong and healthy other than having to keep them relatively short due to typing at work.

My 3rd nail from thumb in both hands split at the same spot for years, I have tried all sorts before starting to wear gel Polish to protect it. I started taking nail skin and hair multivitamins but it is still like that. I have decided to stop gel Polish to see if multivitamins had work but my nail still broke at the same spot. I am going to take the multivitamins without nail Polish on to monitor it.

hey nice vid! i recently cut ~1/3 of my fingernail, but it is not completely off. the bed of the nail is really painful unless i press the nail onto the finger. i was wondering if you would still recommend these products or something a little stronger, some of my friends were recommending guerilla glue but i dont think it is that bad or good for the long term. as for now i am just hoping it will grow back together under a bandaid. but i have never really paid attention to nail stuff so i am unsure if they even grow back like that.

Buffing away ridges can of course also thin the nails along the line of each ridge as a ridge is like a crease, this is like scoring a piece of glass so that when stressed it cracks along the line. Also when a problem is found it can be difficult to simply leave it alone to grow out and attempts at improvement can do more harm than good and becomes like a nail biting habit, time and patience with moisturizer can be a solution but slow and frustrating IMO.👍

My thumb nail split all the way down a year ago. Nothing worked and everything I read said it would be permanent damage. Hot jojoba oil soaks did not help much. Then 6 months later I bought the ISDIN SI-nail pen ( because of Anna). Wow! it was the only thing that worked. I did however use it more than once a day on the thumb . I still use jojoba oil and a kersol cream daily. The thumb nail grew out beautifully. But then I went on a trip and broke the nail again. ( My nails don't travel well- lol--too much handling of luggage. ) This time I filed down the split with a glass file and used the ISDIN pen immediately. My nail recovered two weeks later. The ISDIN pen really works for me and I have weak nails but they are so much better and prettier with all of Anna's advice!!❤

I only went back to have them removed and have never had anything done to my nails professionally again. I was winding an old fashioned mantle clock and the spring broke inside causing the heavy key to spin and batter my thumb very badly leaving my hand bruised and sore. My nails have always been “bendy” and thin, but the split happened about six years ago. If my nail grows too long, the nail break off along the split, leaving a crooked edge. I’d love to make it healthier. Thanks!

I started using the Opi Repair Mode over a week ago. The one thing that it has really helped with is the nails that were already peeling. It stopped any continuation of the peeling and the peeling part stayed down and together. Usually the peeling section keeps peeling down the nail and the already loose part stuck up and caught on stuff. This stopped both of these issues. The previous damage is still there of course but it mitigated further issues.

I am writing this as the video plays so you may cover this, but my nails are ruined from chemo. My left thumb only has half of a nail bed and I thought applying acrylic would protect it. It did not. I'm not sure exactly what happened because I can't see it, but I bumped something and got a horrible pain in my thumb and it bled. I'm assuming some of the nail bed came away from the nail, but the acrylic is still attached and I know if I use chemicals to remove it it will hurt the area that bled.

My question is specifically about the CND Rxx products (including their newest nail strengthener). First, and very briefly, to say after years of gel nails, I went through a late-life crisis and had them removed (she filed them off, but not entirely). I was not offered any follow-up treatment and so went through an arsenal of products trying to add strength to their weakened state. Like with nearly everyone, I buffed, and buffed and buffed every time there was a split or peel. I did listen to your postings but when you have a layer of ugly nail sticking straight up from the surface, there seemed no option. I used IBX many years ago when using gel polish and loved it, but this time I found my nails were actually getting too thick and were literally crumbling. I tried the OPI Repair Mode and on the 2nd day, third application, my nails literally peeled half way down the surface (too strong?). A half-dozen other product attempts and lots more buffing which for 10 minutes gave my nails a more normal appearance, I was back at ground zero with more ugly peeling. I used Essie polish thinking I was giving the nails extra support but the polish, like most others, only made the nails dryer. Back to your videos.
This time, I paid closer attention to you. I started using the CND Rxx but quite honestly, there is no magic immediate improvement - bad things continued to happen and the nails didn't look much better at first. Then I read about the new CND strengthener which, according to their website, can be used with the Rxx as it's supposed to be air permeable. I'm on my second round of the 4 day treatment and can only say when I removed it the first time, my nails did not look as obviously peeling or dry. I can't figure just how the CND strengthener works as it does become thinner one day after the next. I read someone thought it washed off, but I'm inclined to think it actually wears off which may also be compounded by rubbing oil on my fingers every 15 minutes! I can say that the strengthener at least discourages me from picking on the peeling parts of the nail which is a good thing and gives my nails a more normal appearance. Yesterday, I glanced down at my thumb where the product has become almost non-existent (in part I think because I had also filed the nail down while wearing the strengthener, thus breaking the bond) and my nail looked as if it had been through a meat grinder. It was hard, but I didn't buff, instead I rushed to put another layer of the strengthener on and with it, it's hard to see just how awful the nail looked yesterday. So, I'm down to two questions: The first is if you know what is happening with the CND strengthener to make it thin out day after day? Next, how does CND explain how the Rxx can actually penetrate the surface of the nail when the strengthener is already on it? Is it actually penetrating through the strengthener?
And finally, just one point that you may be overlooking when talking to us about "letting the new nail grow out." The damage we've done by buffing, in particular, makes the nail thin, so as it grows over the top of the nail bed, it's often raggity and it's prone to catch on things, split like paper and/or just chip off. It's bloody frustrating, but we should all be reminded that growing them out isn't a perfect process. They won't be strong enough to grow longer until all the weak parts are gone which involves not just filing them short at the front end of the process, but keeping them filed short as the weak areas chip, break and peel. After a year since the gels were "removed," I'd say about 85% of my nails look healthy, so it's just a matter of being patient and not giving in to that strong desire to make them look perfect NOW and buff again. I will say, though that the CND strengthener does give them a finished appearance and if it doesn't nothing more than keep me from picking and buffing, it's done it's job.
Thanks for such a good series and great advice. Now, if they'd only find a way to bottle patience . . . ???

Thank you for the info. My problem is similar but perhaps different. I rarely paint my nails because any nail polish makes them split. I don't use gels and never buff. When I use nail polish and remove it, the nails are split and peeling. I then trim and gently file down and allow the nail bed to regrow - keeping them filed down - until the fresh nail growth is healthy. I allow it to grow out a little more till pretty, and then i polish them. A week later I remove the polish and they are split and peeling again. I think nail polish is doing the damage. Although it's odd because the top half of my nail bed is normal and it just looks bad from that point down. I hope that makes sense. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hello! I have the exact same condition as you've described. Last week, I went to see a dermatologist and she
diagnosed my condition as longitudinal erythronychia.
I've had it for years. The doctor gave me a sample of Genadur to apply daily at bedtime for 3 months. And she wants to see me again in three months for a follow up.
To be honest, I am not very optimistic with the recommended treatment.
What started out as a high vertical ridge on my left thumb nail, as I aged it got worse and culminated in a split approx. 6 months ago (beginning of 2024).
It was tender to the touch and sometimes had a pulsating feeling. That's when I became really concerned.
My right thumb nail is starting to show the same condition.
I am 62 years old and I am starting to think that I'll have to learn to live with that. The cause is unknown but it's possibly due to aging. I think it's irreversible. 😢
I rarely used nail polish throughout my life and I always used rubber gloves to do house work. So I haven't done anything wrong to cause the condition. I don't have any mineral or vitamin deficiencies. All my other fingernails (as well as toenails) are very healthy.

Strength is a perfect balance between hardness and flexibility.
Hardener and strengthener are 2 different things
Here is info about hardeners: ua-cam.com/video/2JYu0wZcSt0/v-deo.html
This would be an example of strenghteners for hard and brittle nails: ua-cam.com/video/io335eWf6R4/v-deo.html

The three treatments you highlight CND rescue, ISPIN Pen, and OPI Repair, do you use these at the same time or is the goal to just pick one and try it?

Definitely just one of them :) right now I’m leaning towards OPI Repair Mode. Many of my viewers have good results with it
Also ISDIN if the nails are really overfiled and painful.

Hi, I have a question about the products - Are you suggesting using all three products together, or are you presenting them as different options? Thanks!

Hello, not all 3. They are just different options (examples)

I wish I had seen this video over a year ago. Nail hardener is so not good. It caused my nails to burn and one of them separated from the nail bed😢
