Something that REALLY leveled up my nail game was always using gloves when washing dishes and cleaning. I know it’s an extra step but it takes literally .2 seconds to put on gloves and it really will save your nails!!!
Anna, I have learned from you that getting oily is GOOD!! I’m into my 7th month of constant oiling of my hands (not just my nails) and my nails are finally looking really healthy. No more peeling. No more splitting. No more peeling skin around my nails. I have learned from you to be gentle with manicures. No more acrylics. No more buffing. No more cutting my nails (or skin folds) but gentle filing to maintain shape & length. I’m eternally grateful for all the trade secrets you have shared❣️❣️
Anna I'd love to see a video about how to properly shape nails based upon the size and shape of your nails...having short, wide nails I'd love for them to look longer and more narrow. I've read that you shouldn't file into the sidewalls because it weakens the nail plate and may damage surrounding tissue. I also read that your free edge should match the shape of your nail bed? Please advise. Thank you!

Anna you have made a difference in my nails since I started watching you about 3 months ago…maybe it was 4 months. I had peeling breaking nails all my life. I thought it might be because of years of nail biting but since I have been using oils my nails have become healthy for the most part. I wish I had found you or someone like you many years ago. I am 72 years old now but my nails are looking healthy at last! One question I have for you; you mention you mix jojoba oil with other oils and I wonder why you mix it? Is it not good by itself?
I just love this channel. One bit of your advice that has really helped me was to get a good quality glass nail file. Since I started using the brand of glass file you recommended, my nails peel much, much less.
Hi Anna, this was such an amazingly detailed video just packed with so much great information. I have been following your channel (and doing all the gentle care steps and weekly manicures) for 3 months. I have seen my nails (and hands) improve so much that it is noticeable! You have helped me change my life for the better. I am forever grateful to you. This video did answer a question I had which was “Should I be wearing polish at the same time that I am healing my damaged nails?” Answer: no, not recommended. There are no words to express my thanks for all you do you are so sweet and relatable. If I lived in Barcelona I would come to visit often your salon. I agree, you are a rockstar! 🌸
From one Anna fan to another…I had damaged nails that were too unsightly and weak to go without coverage…thank the gods I discovered Dazzle Dry!! I never want to use another lacquer. My nails have grown out healthy and strong…I oil them around and underneath multiple times daily, and do hot oil soaks every ten days when I remove the varnish and let my nails go naked overnight. Good luck!
Thanks so much for your videos Anna! After having great nails all my life lately I found my nails were peeling, flaking off at the ends, splitting, and getting more ridges. I had no idea what was going on other than the fact that I hadn’t worn nail polish for almost a year (maybe bare nails let too much water into my nails?). I had just buffed my nails 😬 when I saw one of your videos. 😳 I immediately started warm jojoba and almond oil soaks a couple of times per week, applying Rescue Rxx a few times a day, and keeping my nails short. Also making sure my hands had as little exposure to water as possible. Within a month the change in my nails has been remarkable - the only thing I still have is some ridges, and I’m not sure what the oil would have to do with it, but even the ridges seem less visible. Thanks so much for your helpful videos! I’m recommending your channel to friends who complain about their nails. ❤️🇨🇦
I am sooo thankful for this channel! I have very thin and bendy nails that used to split at the edges, and they would break at nothing. Sometimes, if I wasn’t careful enough, they would actually bend backwards. Around 3 months ago I saw Anna’s video about Mavala nail strengthener, and started with this, together with applying oil several times a day. I sometimes use jojoba and sometimes sweet almond oil. I finally have nice nails that are not “13 different lengths”. I still don’t use nail polish on them, because I don’t want to risk it (that always used to make the splitting worse), but I don’t feel the need to as much, because I feel that my longish, healthy nails are good enough 😊 I have also started using gloves more when cleaning. I still do my toe nails in the summer, though 😊
I’ve been following your advice for 4-6 weeks… purchased the dazzle dry system too! I cannot begin to tell you the difference!!! My nails are the healthiest they’ve been in years!! 💕💖💅🏻💕💖
Goldbon has a lotion called “crepe correction” that has both urea and jojoba oil! And on top of that is fantastic for the whole body- no fragrance so good for sensitive people
Thank you for sharing! I noticed that it contains hydroxyethyl urea which is a derivative of urea and I'm not really sure if it's as effective as urea.
Hi Anna - I have been following your advice; gently pushing back my cuticle, not cutting my PNF and using cuticle oil. It has already made a noticeable difference. Thank you!
Hi Anna, thank you for sharing my nail damage story. I do have similar damage on the free edge of my NAIL PLATE (lol) on my other nails also if I let them grow out a bit. I don’t have this damage in my toe nails. I am wondering if it is due to a lot of hand washing and use of hand sanitizer bc of my job as a physician . Regardless, I will try everything you suggested and give up on nail polish for a couple of months. I’ll send updates! My nails are also not thin and usually not bendy.
Loving your channel…it’s the only one I will watch concerning nails now ….your advice is spot on and your professionalism is excellent. Many women don’t want to hear it, but is what it is. I got an allergy and will only do non gel or non- acrylic products if even them…my nails have grown out beautiful thanks to your advice. Nice and pink. Love the oil treatments you suggest. Great channel. I have a couple friends who now have allergies and I sent them your link. I believe from what I have seen in the comments of different videos…allergies are increasing exponentially. Not a matter of if, but with inexperienced techs, it a matter of when. I think it’s inexperienced technicians which the average person isn’t aware of and if you ask them about their techniques…as I did…they act indignant as if I am questioning their abilities…well I was, and I paid a price…pi$$ed off my “highly recommended” fancy salon tech and got an allergy anyway. So, I think wearing more natural, less harsh products are going to be the wave of the future but many of the people putting up videos on you tube are in denial. Love your channel…thanks.
Thank you for this video. I have soft and brittle nails that peel, split and tear for no discernible reason. And no I have never buffed my nails and use nail polish rarely. I have started to use warm oil nail soaks weekly and Eucerin cream after washing my hands and know that it will take months for any results to show. I did wonder about nail oil applications other than the weekly nail oil soaks and this video has answered that question for me. I use a combination of jojoba, rosehip, caster, and grapeseed or sunflower oil for the weekly nail soak and will start to use jojoba oil for my nails after washing my hands.
Ive stopped using pure acetone to remove my nail polish because. It hurts my nails. I have since switched to one that is more gentle ( cutex: strengthening) I use nail covers to remove my polish with the more.gentle remover (it.doesnt.comtain oils so it removes the.polish quicker. In regard to acetone remover. Don't worry, I'm not going to come at you Anna! I was using Zoya Remove+ for a very long time and my nails started drying out quite a lot. I switched to a non-acetone remover (Londontown) and my nails have improved immensely. I don't know if the acetone in the Zoya remover was the cause of the problem or if it was some other ingredients. I don't use cuticle oil as often as I should, and some days I only put on some Hard As Hoof before bed so I don't think I can attribute the improvement to me stepping up my game. Anyway, just my personal experience with switching to a non-acetone remover. Thank you for these great videos. I'm really trying to be more diligent about applying oil more often!
Hi Jane! I think it could be coincidence. It's difficult to judge, it's possible but it could have been many other things. Of course if someone is taking their polish off every day or super often it might dry the skin and possibly the nail. But the surface damage we see with pedicures simply cannot be blames on acetone. Wiping your nails with acetone once a month simply cannot cause such flaking and damage. Have you seen the article I wrote a while ago? I had a client with some surface damage on her toes from wearing polish over the summer. She probably had it on for 2 months (so acetone used only 1 time in 2 months). I did her pedicure the same on both feet and applied polish only on 1 foot. I wiped the other nails with acetone too like I would be removing polish too. The only difference was polish wear. The result was shocking. Seriously www.patreon.com/posts/pedicure-study-1-24347099
@@TheSalonLife I did see that one. I change my polish once a week, so no excessive use of remover. Honestly the only change was switching to non-acetone. I do wonder if there is some ingredient in the Zoya that my nails didn't like. Whatever the reason, I'm glad my nails have improved!
I saw your nifty little nail oil pen, and I’ve been searching around for refillable versions. They are not easy to get shipped to my country, so I have been thinking of alternatives. Chances are that you have good alternatives in your house already 😊 I put some oil in an empty eye drop flask (that I use for my allergy, and only have one month shelf life after opening). That worked very well for on the go. I’m not home right now, but at home I have Tombow water brush that is intended for watercolor. I didn’t like to use it, as I like regular watercolor brushes better, so I might try using them for oils instead. I bought a pack of three, and one of them is a flat, broadish brush. I will see if that one will work with the jojoba oil. Maybe other ppl have some ideas on this too?
I also tried to find one of those nail pens but can’t find any in my local stores they usually sell ones in little nail polish bottles. And online pen versions also seem to cost more (like $20) So I just refilled an old nail polish bottle which I cleaned really well and put an oil mixture in it.
Thanks so much for sharing all your valuable advice, it’s really helpful and I feel a lot of local salons aren’t that willing on sharing their trade secrets as people with healthy nails aren’t the best repeat customers. So having someone who’s knowledgeable in the subject but also has no conflict of interest is so rare and helpful! I have always had very soft and peeling nails, but I ended up watching this video after having used (and initially loved) the Essie hard to resist nail hardener. My nails looked so pretty with that pink hue but after a week my nails have flaked off and disintegrated into nothingness like I’ve never seen happening before. I thought I was imagining this until you mentioned that certain ingredients in nail polishes can do that. So a fair warning to everyone with this problem, don’t use this nail polish, or if you want it purely for the lovely blush of colour it gives, maybe do it on top of another coat you put on your bare nails to protect them. Thanks again for the time and effort you put into this nail clinic series, I think we can all learn something and I just love the vibe of your channel! Keep up the great work!
I’ve had this weird peeling/surface damage problem for as long as I can remember and it all finally makes sense!!! You’re the best. Do you, by any chance, know of any nail polishes (besides dazzle dry because I’m not in the states) that don’t contain nitrocellulose but don’t peel in large sheets after 1 day? It seems like finding a unicorn hahaha I can’t find anything without nitrocellulose in it
For shine I like Catrice Builder Base coat (with a green lid). It does tend to peel after 3 days or so but it's so quick to re-polish your nails. It seems gentle on the nails. Also it's best to take a day off from polish and do warm jojoba oil soak :)
I've been doing my own IBX treatments at home with a UV lamp I purchased on Amazon and the results have been great for my peely nails. It's not a miracle as Anna says, but definitely helps! My thumb, pointer and middle finger all peeled so badly, but now they've stopped. I combine this treatment with OPI's Nail Envy as a base coat and then lots of jojoba oil :)
Nothing helped my peeling except when l switched to Dazzle Dry, my nails where extremely yellow so when l started to only use DD it almost seemed like the yellow, white spots, peeling and dryness all grew out and l had normal nails for the first time in years. Sadly won’t be using my beautiful polishes and gave all away and now am collecting colors only from DD.
Hi Kat! I know what you're saying. That's why I'm saying no nail polish at least for a while. Nitrocellulose can be damaging. I have seen this with some people. Sadly I had one client who couldn't wear Dazzle Dry either. After 2-3 manicures she got major peeling and breaking. Very rare but I have seen it. She had naturally very hard nails too. So strange. She didn't pick polish off either. She came on regular bases with polish still on but major peeling.
@@TheSalonLife Hi Anna, l am lucky as l do my nails every week and have been able to grow out the damage. Thanks to you my cuticle care has changed and the skin around my nails is magazine perfect 💅🏼
Thank you so much for your research and providing us with this super informative video…you covered quite a number of treatments with real science and proven results for an unsightly and frustrating problem that plagues so many of us! We appreciate you Anna!!
If our nails still peel while we’re growing out the damaged parts, is it ok to peel/cut those pieces off? Not sure how best to handle this when I’ve already filed my nails as short as I can, but the peeling is going up into the pink part of my nail. If I peel off a lifted piece, will it only continue to peel on damaged nail or can this extend into/damage the healthy, new growth?
so glad i found your channel I recently used gel and think it has damaged my nails am really worried wondered if I could send u pics somewhere for advice?

Amazing tips! I'm wondering if you have any suggestions for a client with Hashimoto's. Her nails are extremely fragile because of this condition. We've been doing IBX treatments which have been helping tremendously, but both of her thumbnails consistently split down the middle, and she's always babying them because of it. She's using tons of oil in between services, wearing gloves, etc. The splits are definitely growing from the matrix, so I don't expect we'll ever be able to fully restore them. I continue to suggest she check in with her doctor about her nails since she does have Hashimoto's. After watching this video, I wonder if the addition of the Rx treatment at home might be a good addition to her homecare. I know it's hard to suggest when you haven't seen the nails or know the entire story, but wondering if you might have any suggestions!
I'm so glad that i found this video. My nails are peeling and also breaking when the grow a little bit. I did us some gel polish a few times this year. But i have stopped doing that, i also don't buff my nails anymore and no more cutting the nf. I will follow you're tips to have nice healthy nails. I do have a question when do you advice a nail hardener ore a nail strengthner? And when my nails are heatlthy over some months can i use nail polish then?
I’m so happy I found your channel! Would you still recommend no polish for someone who’s hands are in water a lot. (I’m a hairstylist) my nails peel and rip off if I don’t polish them as a barrier😓
Hi Kristen! Nails naturally have that protective layer unless it's removed by buffing and aggressive manicure techniques. First we have to make sure we are not removing that layer. Then you have to see what works for you. It's like trying to improve hair quality but stripping the hair with harsh shampoos, using hard water, and no conditioner and heat styling with heat protective serum every day to "smooth" the hair. I wear coat of clear polish and majority of people have no issues with a clear coat, some do though and initially I want to remove all possible causes of the nail damage. Extensive wear of nail polish itself can cause nail surface damage for some people with weaker nails.
@@TheSalonLife thank you for your help! I will try just a clear coat , I have been using opi nail envy and lots of cuticle/nail oils. I’m trying to get away from gel nails and extensions because based on what I’ve learned from your videos I was having a reaction.
Ugh not wearing nail polish is such a bummer! I have a bit of peeling and I am going. To start oil soaking and using more oil frequently. I just really wish I could wear my polish :(
Im a bedside nurse and have to use hand sanitizer constantly and wash my hands frequently. I can’t put oil on my nails at work and we aren’t supposed to use any lotion but the approved lotion (Which is never available) so I do use my own lotion when I can. What can I do to compensate for having to abuse my nails at work to get my nails to a healthier state. Right now they are in a similar condition as the woman’s nails in this video. Thanks

I lost 3 nails to trauma, due to walking way too far in the wrong type of shoes. What do you recommend? After the nails came off, I was left with really hardened skin underneath. It's been 3 months now. I see a little bit of nail regrowth, but the hardness is concerning.
I lost both my big toenails about 27 years ago due to similar circumstances. It took a year for the nails to fully grow back and, until they did, I just had the hardened nail bed covering the ends of my toes. Unfortunately it takes time!
My nails used to peel until I started taking vitamin B complex. I was mostly vegetarian (occasionally ate fish, never ate eggs). My peeling nails were due to a nutritional deficiency.
The Salon Life apologies I went through the list of videos but couldn't find the answer. Basically I have same nails as the person at the beginning of your video. I use mostly Mavala regime i.e oils their manicure pill and do old school manicure soaking nails in water for a few minutes (not using soap anymore for this). Is soaking the nail in water to remove cuticule and clean them up even a good idea? I started questioning it after your videos I started watching this and past week. If overwashing the hands does so much damage to the nail I presume it is best not to expose them to so much soaking (oil soaks excluled). Apologies if the video on this was already on the channel somewhere. Thank you in advance.
I don't think the occasional soak will do it (like once a week). I don't think that's a cause of the peeling. With peeling there could be many reasons. Usually overexposure to water and detergents that remove the oils from the nail plate. How are your toenails? Also peeling?
@@TheSalonLife Thank you so much. No my toenails are not peeling, they are actually pretty hard and not flexible at all. I believe it may be over exposure to water for my fingernails. Very good point in your video about applying some oil or cream every time after washing hands. I was washing hands a lot in the past 2 years with Covid and I only ever applied cream and oil on my nails maybe in the evenings and mavala scientifique K (we don't have original version sold here for some reason). I will try oil soaks and putting the nail oil on the nails more often as you suggested see how it goes in a couple of months or so when the nails grow out. :) Thank you so much.
Biotin supplements have to be used with caution. In 2017 FDA put out a warning that biotin supplements can falsely lower troponin levels which are used to diagnose a heart attack.
Hi Anna. If a person has that peeling problem are there any polishes without nitrocellulose? Like is for ex Dior nail glow? I hate the look of bare hands/nails and I know it would be impossible to resist not to wear anything on them and still want to get rid of peeling nails
Hi A, the thing is that it's better to get the nails back in shape and then wear polish. The treatments I mentioned need to be used daily or every 2-3 days for them to work. Then once the nails are good and not peeling you can wear polish for 5-6 days and take it off, put a treatment, do oil soak, manicure and then put polish on the next day. Otherwise often it's 2 steps forward 1 step back with polish on. If you must I find that if the peeling is due to damage and normally the nails are good you can wear Dazzle Dry a coat of base coat and coat of top coat as like a "clear coat". It all depends on the severity of peeling and damage too.
Unfortunately there is an error with the video and it will not show. Only will show an opening ad and then when it tries to play it won’t do do and there’s an error message to try again later??? I tried abt 3 hours ago and again just now. Same message. Other items on UA-cam are showing so I think it’s this video.

Don’t know if it could be re-loaded from the original file? Or if that would help? Thank you for trying and offering the additional link.
Hi! I was able to watch it ince I got home and could do so using my TV/streaming platform. We had been away and I was trying to watch from my phone. It just would not run on my iPhone. As I mentioned all your other uploads were running just fine from my phone, even when I was away. So not sure the issue but glad to have been able to watch it. Thank you as always for sharing your knowledge and advice with us!!
Great video! I’m starting my routine with jojoba oil after every wash/lotion and your one minute care pushing back the cuticle with an orange stick. Once there is improvement what do you recommend as a clear daily polish and colour for special events? Thank you!
Hi Debbie! It really depends on the nails. Many people are OK with polish on most of the time (especially if it's Dazzle Dry). I do recommend (even DD recommends that) a day off between polishing. Day of rest and oil bath :)) and Mavala Hardener if needed (bi-weekly or weekly as maintenance if needed)
Hello, No5 here.... have you ever heard of Preval Onyx balm, in which the functional ingredient is chitosan? Would you recommend something like this too? It is advertised for dry, brittle, damaged nails.
My nails aren't soft, I don't buff them and they never peel when I don't wear nail polish. I've recently been wearing nail polish for the first time in years. I polish them once a week. After the third week, I'm now seeing some dryness at the free edge and a little splitting /peeling. Does using nail oil after every hand wash while wearing polish prevent this? Can those oils penetrate through the nail polish? I really love my new polish and want to keep using it. Any help would be appreciated. (I use Londontown's Illuminating Nail concealer) p.s. Love your channel. Game changer for my proximal nail fold.
Hi Lana, yes, nail polish wear, especially prolonged wear can, for some people cause nail surface damage. Oil won't really penetrate the coating to a degree that it would be beneficial for the nail. That is why I recommend to wear polish for 6 days max, taking it off for a day, doing a warm oil soak and the next day re-polish. More on this topic here: ua-cam.com/video/rITW2ZMpll0/v-deo.html I talk about acrylic damage etc but I also cover nail damage from nail polish.
Hello Anna, I have one question that came into my mind after looking at the cross section of a human fingertip illustration - should the keratinised proximal nail fold tissue be removed as well? Or only cuticle tissue?
I got a question, can I still put on top coat after I put on my treatment? I used mavala waited like 3 or 4 min then put on base coat(regular one from holo taco) but I didn't put any top coat at all. Since I'm not using polish at all 😮💨
Something that REALLY leveled up my nail game was always using gloves when washing dishes and cleaning. I know it’s an extra step but it takes literally .2 seconds to put on gloves and it really will save your nails!!!

I only wear nail polish every other week. I dont hate polish i just like seeing my bare nail. It just looks so.nice.
Which mavala hardener did u use ? Original or k + ?
Based on your recommendation, I’ve been using Mavala for a few months. I’ve noticed a big improvement.
I have since switched to one that is more gentle ( cutex: strengthening)
I use nail covers to remove my polish with the more.gentle remover (it.doesnt.comtain oils so it removes the.polish quicker. I find the non.acetone removers that contain oils are.too.gentle and take forever to.remove the polish
I.sit with the polish for 5 -6.mins and it has takem my nails to another level.
I use the nail covers with nom acetome soaked pads and it works really well
In regard to acetone remover.
Seriously
www.patreon.com/posts/pedicure-study-1-24347099
@@TheSalonLife I did see that one. I change my polish once a week, so no excessive use of remover. Honestly the only change was switching to non-acetone. I do wonder if there is some ingredient in the Zoya that my nails didn't like. Whatever the reason, I'm glad my nails have improved!
Your videos are always a treasure full of knowledge
Those are brilliant ideas!!!
It seems like finding a unicorn hahaha I can’t find anything without nitrocellulose in it
Im not even looking for coloured polish. I only ever wear transparent polish or an extremely nude almost transparent beige. I just want some shine 😭
Ana’s thank you ! You are so nice sharing 🌸🌸🌸🌸
So sensible, as always! Ana, where did you get that oil pen you were demonstrating after the hand wash? It would be really handy for on the move.

Thank you. Extremely helpful. I’m trying the mavala since 2 weeks ago. I hope 🤞 it help me.

Thank you for your GREAT advice and for sharing your knowledge. You showed oil coming out of a brush and brushing the oil on the cuticles. (It was shown after washing the hands at the sink) Would you tell where to get this?
CND sell their Solar Oil in a pen like the one Ana was using, it's great for popping in your handbag so you have it with you whilst out and about.

Thank you, very informative!
Ugh not wearing nail polish is such a bummer! I have a bit of peeling and I am going. To start oil soaking and using more oil frequently. I just really wish I could wear my polish :(
It's not forever. Polish doesn't last on peely nails anyway. :)
Tried press ons the first time. My nails generally tend to peel. Do you think press ons could be harmful?
Im a bedside nurse and have to use hand sanitizer constantly and wash my hands frequently. I can’t put oil on my nails at work and we aren’t supposed to use any lotion but the approved lotion (Which is never available) so I do use my own lotion when I can. What can I do to compensate for having to abuse my nails at work to get my nails to a healthier state. Right now they are in a similar condition as the woman’s nails in this video. Thanks

Urea based moisturiser when you can
Why Urea?
It acts as a mild keratolytic agent (some of its moisturizing action is thought to come from urea's ability to break down bonds in the protein called filaggrin and thus freeing up amino acids in the skin), enhances antimicrobial peptide expression and improves skin barrier function.

@@TheSalonLife wow, thank you for all the info you packed into your reply! I feel like I have a lot of good options and can’t wait to try them.
You are welcome!
I think warm oil soaks (jojoba) weekly and oil morning and night (and when you can during the day) and for example ISDIN pen daily or twice a day would really help.
Also the Glove in a bottle. It has a very nice light consistency. Absorbs right away
Hi Ay! Good to hear your nails improved :) Did your toenails also peel?
@@TheSalonLife No. It was just my fingernails. The vitamin B stopped the peeling and made my weak nails strong.
Ugh this is gonna suck for me. I want to paint my nails, put nail wraps or semi cured gels strips but my nails are in the process of healing.
Sooo great, love your channel
Do you think facial treatments are exacerbating nail issues?
A note about biotin. If you're at all prone to cyctic acne, biotin can absolutely be a trigger.
Progress at two weeks… peeling appears to have stopped; last bits almost grown out. No new damage… cuticles look great.
Hello, No5 here.... have you ever heard of Preval Onyx balm, in which the functional ingredient is chitosan? Would you recommend something like this too? It is advertised for dry, brittle, damaged nails.
I came across something but I have to read up on it! Thank you for mentioning it! :)
