Man, being just a year or two older than John, and being a musician in my early twenties trying to make something happen, touring in a Ford van, etc., it was so easy to dismiss him as some kind of soft-rock adult-contemporary commercial construct. Sorority house music for Sunday. Then this. Game over. Our generation's very very best. (Gen X to anyone who isn't - still overlooked, still invisible, still rolling our eyes at the rest of you).
This is the performance of a lifetime, no doubt. John Mayer has got it. It has been broughten. I would also recommend to you Philip Sayce, Billy Strings, Chris Buck and of course Joe Bonamassa. I think that they are all once-in-a-generation talents who are taking the instrument to new heights. Mayer borrows a section of "Power of Soul" by Jimi Hendrix in this video. It fits perfectly in the song and seems new. Music has no limits.
The outro at 2:50 comes from Power To Love off of Jimi’s album, Band of Gypsys! I finally drew this connection after years of knowing and loving this performance. These guys’ knowledge goes so deep!
3:25 Steve Jordan yeah!!! Saw this band in 2018 I think, touring The Search For Everything, great tour with a host of auxiliary players who were also excellent, but at the core - the Trio. Best concert I attended in that decade easily. Also caught John with Dead & Co. a couple times and JM elevated that situation tremendously too.
He is so high in here I'm sorry but he is high as balls keep bouncing his legs licking the side of the mouth (probably dry...) wearing glasses to cover up red eyes, yet probably one of the best performances of his
pino was honestly insane on this one
I've been trying to study this bassline for weeks, but it's just amazing for how much it's hard to learn
0:08 Thats an insane drum intro

That crazy insane snare fill and then shoot directly to Bill Murray in the crowd. Absolutely epic!
