It's goood!!
I agree it sounds great. Buddy Guy is the man. Check out Festival Express film.
What I was thinking! Drums stole the show for me, with all due respect all around!
Buddy Guy is by far the coolest musician out there. Always a great concert, especially we he starts walking into the audience, playing his guitar. A legend if there ever was one.
Yep
Uncle Buddy is a phenomenon
buddy is the coolest. he influenced Jimi Hendrix
This feels like a thrilling conversation in a language that only these two can understand.
Exactly
But everyone understands. They are just flawless translators ☺
Buddy is one of the blues greats from the 60s still around, we need to tresure him
Chicago Blues
50's.. 57 to be exact
You are so right. A living legend.
Phil Lesh’s bass tone under all this……awesome.
My favorite era of Mayer was when he played that strat, the two rock amp, and wore black. I thought this was 2005 for a second!
Thought the same it's been a while
Now hes gotta get that prs money.
This video is from 2005. He's got no tattoo sleeve. I thought it was current as well.
This is the right around the time that everyone was realizing that John could actually play guitar.
It is from 2005
Buddy Guy is a great musician and not only makes that instrument talk, but sings the Blues so well.Back in the 1980s i got invited to play with Muddy Waters and it was an experience I'll remember the rest of my life !!
What an inspiration...83 years old!
Well, FWIW, he was 69 when this was filmed.. :)
Mike V. Yes, I overlooked that; however I saw footage from his concerts this past summer and he is rocking very well for 83.
nerzk I saw him in Los Angeles four years ago and he killed. He played Voodoo Child so smoothly.
83 years young son😎
JM in his younger days. Kid is carrying the torch for Dead & company!
I think most guitarists improve with ages, then slowly decreases in speed towards their growing age ... JM not one of these, I only see him improve on every level :D
DSO all day any day. Dead and Co is slow, lathargic gd music.
@@stonejackballer482 ok keep seeing your tribute band (which is great stuff) il keep watching johnny and bobby play slow blues and dead songs til the cows come home
Kid? Shut up kid.
God said the world is hard so I am going to give you the Blues to make you sad and happy at the same time... how is that possible sad and happy at the same time? only the Blues can do that. LOL
hell yeah camrade
Nop , Türkü can do it.
Amen Brother!
What about euphoric? I get it all the time. Some marijuana and some blues, it don’t get better than that.
lol fax!😂😂😂hahaha
Phil Lesh and Questlove? Awesome
You simply cannot beat these two together...or apart. Don't get me wrong, there are many greats, but Mayer and Buddy Guy have this interaction that are like no other.
That’s phycodelic blues, very impressive when you watch live, Buddy Guy has the top show man spirit!
I can safely say i’m probably the only one who is watching this from Saudi Arabia, been a blues fan for so many years,BG & JM are my top favorite artists
nothing new under the sun, except change
Ironic yes
Of all artist JM is your fav? Good lord smh
Buddy and that dirty tone. It's so amazing. He could plug into anything and just fuggin rip. MAYOR IS LEGEND
Funky Blues deep in your souls!!!!! Buddy Guy my all time favorite guitarists & John Mayer helping the new generation carry on the blues torch!!!
Buddy Guy IS the blues, John Mayer is a student of the blues.
All this freaking talent on one stage playing is absolutely just sick, and it's sounding incredible and phenomenal 🎉🎉. Now this is actually what music 🎶 🎵 is supposed to sound like 🎉🎉
Just pull this out of your pocket next time anyone talks trash about John Mayer. Saw these two play Live Aid in '06 and will never forget.
I never Knew that John Mayer could legit Jam...and with Buddy Guy...Props all the way!
Welcome to the club. Keep going mama.. John is just an old blues head.
welcome! a lot of people maybe know john from his acoustic pop Your Body is a Wonderland song, but he's a bluesman at core, check out his other live stuffs, he's a beast
Buddy guy
The best alive today
Huh? Not trying to hate on buddy, but John is so much better than buddy in this. John pretty much schools everybody when he plays with them.
John Mayer is the king of groove.
Anyone else remember when Buddy would play the bar circuit with J Mayer and Buddy would have this long as plug in and would walk around the bars(Sometimes he walk outside and play too) tearing up the blues!!! South Carolina was here
No but in pls in sswe
How could anyone NOT love this...
Heavy intelectual guitar conversation. Just awesome!
That’s true jammin!!!
A Very Confident Blues Man!.💪😁💖
The audio capture of this video was surreal
I have seen every mayer video. How the hell have I not seen this one? Its incredible.
Like I heard Robert Cray say “ when you play with Buddy you gotta watch out because he will keep you on your toes or make you look foolish. This was great and I love how John played back into Buddy with his solo but it showed just how great that Buddy is because he hammered it right back like a buzz saw. I have seen Buddy and it was pure unadulterated blues and totally divine! I thank my lucky stars for all of the many, many shows that I have seen but Buddy is on the top of my list!
Buddy Guy is a monster!
1of my best of all time Blues players,, ,, an deep down "we all have the Blues deep down in our Soul! ,,,,, Arkansas, 🪶 cw'

Buddy Guy is 83 years old in this video, dont forget it !!!
This was in 2005. He was 69 then. He still rocks at 83 tho.
@@jamlive6650 Ok, the video was made in 2005. He's still incredible .
@@larrypages9849 saw him twice over this past winter. Absolute killer performance.
@@jamlive6650 He is the last big legend again alive.
@@larrypages9849 In the blues genre.
Buenos días. El Maestro de la Música, Don Buddy Guy. Un Mito del blues.
Buddy !!! Phil !!!! Johnny !!!!!
George "Buddy" Guy was Muddy Waters session guitarist at Chess Records in Chicago. Buddy Guy has influenced, and is amongst, the greatest Blues and Rock n Roll guitarists in the history of recording artists.... Jeff Beck since 1961 and his best friend Jimmy Page, also Eric Clapton (just listen to his speech at Buddy's RnRHoF induction), and yes Jimi Hendrix was influenced so much that he canceled some if his own gigs to attend Buddy's live shows and video record them with an 8mm camera to study the films and emulate Buddy's stage presence and like the others even build off some of his licks. SRV is another great who was also influenced by the talent and showmanship of Buddy Guy and the list just goes on. I just don't think he gets enough credit; Although, when folks say "Jeff Beck is your favorite guitarist's favorite guitarist", well look who Jeff Beck's favorite guitarist is, enough said. God bless Buddy Guy, 87 years young today, and thank God for Buddy and his "Polka Dot" Strat creating recording performing so much great music... Rock On.
Well, hell yeah! Nothing more needs to be said
OMG Buddy You grew on me.
Changed my music direction.
Sweet Tea on
John’s got on a nice watch, as per usual!
JM played the strat like a bass there.
Dude that's what I was thinking.
Does it make a different sound or is it some style of playing or something?
He is playing a standard blues guitar riff on the lowest part of the guitar so there’s nothing abnormal about the guitar sound, but it helps that he’s got really fat tone. At that time I’m pretty sure he was running that strat through a tube screamer pedal and a compressor (I think Katana), then to a two rock amp.
It's probably more for flair to do that bass or flamenco style finger picking on a blues song
@@brianeltomi8571 they’re talking about his right hand not his tone
When John Mayer is doing something special there is always one general reason: because he can!
proper dream team blues jam. Phil and Qlove groove all day long magic
What a good player JM is kip fires burning
No doubt that Questlove had the best seat in the house!

Phil's at the wrong gig
I love the way john moves with every solo he plays
Watch his performance with B.B. King.
man, this is close to the beginning of the "new and improved" Mayer! That change of the company he kept really made a difference.
This was wayyy before he started playing with D&C - people don't realise how long he's been playing Blues like this for!
Perfect example. Tone comes the guy! Buddy Guy that is
I need more of this in my life. Literally. I used to have a crappy MP3 recording of the evening's proceedings, does anyone have a lossless copy or even a full video of the set?
😍😍😍😍😍😍
Buddy Guy may not be the technically best guitar player but his charisma as a performer surpasses all others no doubt
You are wrong. Once he was great blues player. Find his recordings from 1970s with his pal Junior Wells. Nowdays, he is a bit sloppy but from time to time he plays great. After all he is 70 plus.
@@DS-yg4qs I saw Buddy Guy 2 years ago. He didn't play that much, but he has a very good lead guitar player. Buddy mostly sang and put on a great show.
Perfection....Budy & Jhon Mayer.....music of Gold.....
Dear God, make me a man who makes guitars weep!
God says to shut up and go practice.
Miguel Baptista wise one ☝️

Come on now, Buddy Guy OWNED that song and made it his! Mayer was a backup player. I'm a fan of both, but Buddy took it to downtown and through it down!
Buddy always runs the show
This has to be the best Mayer solo I’ve heard
