Eric Clapton, one of the world’s pre-eminent blues/rock guitarists, once again summoned an all-star team of six-string heroes for his fifth Crossroads Guitar Festival in 2019. Held at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, the two-day concert event raised funds for the Crossroads Centre in Antigua, the chemical dependency treatment and education facility that Clapton founded in 1998.

Lyrics:
I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot the deputy
I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot the deputy
All around in my home town
They're trying to track me down
They say they want to bring me in guilty
For the killing of a deputy
For the life of a deputy
But I say
I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot no deputy
I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot no deputy
Sheriff John Brown always hated me
For what I don't know
Every time that I plant a seed
He said, "Kill it before it grows"
He said, "Kill it before it grows"
I say
I shot the sheriff, but I swear it was in self-defense
I shot the sheriff, and they say it is a capital offense
Freedom came my way one day
And I started out of town
All of a sudden I see sheriff John Brown
Aiming to shoot me down
So I, so I had to shoot him down
I say
I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot no deputy
I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot no deputy
Reflexes got the better of me
And what will be, will be
Every day the bucket goes to the well
But one day the bottom will drop out
Yes, one day the bottom will drop out
But I say
I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot no deputy
I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot no deputy

ok!
Just imagine if Bob Marley and Clapton did this together.
I dont want to
This comment its largely underrated
Yeah imagine
Bob Marley confessed before he died that he shot the sheriff. Eric is now saying that he did the same too.
Haven't they done it together?
And then you add Jaco Pastorius on top of that
Thanks u bob Marley, for the song
The guy on the organ was absolute fire, wow, how sweet.
Saw Clapton two weeks ago. He is now 74 years old, so i went to the concert without having big expectations.
Ended up being the best musical experience of my life
How was it? Albert Hall?
@@TheIzzatsyamim It was great. Saw him in Mannheim, Germany. He played both Layla-versions :)
He is quality of course and also no fool - that is Steve Gadd on drums... former Steely Dan and arguably the best session drummer in the world. In his former band he had Steve Ferrone on drums (Average White Band followed by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers), Nathan East on bass and Greg (I really wrote most of Thriller) Phillinganes on keys. Andy Fairweather Low as his backup guitarist for over a decade - these are all proven journey men of popular music and recording. Who was Clapton's best friend and the guitarist he admired (even more than Jimi, Buddy, Albert and Robert)... George Harrison. The mans got class.
@@Spartanm333 Ye and he fucked his wife as well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've been listening to this solo for 13 years .. All i can say, this solo is from heaven!!
The note after note he built for this solo is tremendous!
Agree with that 100 percent! Amazing! Only Eric can do this!

I just love the way Eric plays this in the Reggae manner.. he totally understands how to play it’s outstanding as is he! Wow! He blows me away still even after more than 5 decades! So much respect for this incredible Human Being!
Ah, reminiscing about the 2010 Crossroads Guitar Festival - I was just a 12-year-old then. A day and night etched in my memory forever, witnessing my guitar idol Eric Clapton alongside legends like BB King, John Mayer, Buddy Guy, and more. I find myself playing this version a lot from the sweet memory, of the 12-hour show with my parents. Despite the scorching heat, the journey from New Jersey to Chicago was entirely worthwhile. ❤🎸
The most versatile guitarist and performer in the universe, from blues, hard rock, to reggae and more. My inspiration.
Bob Marley would be proud hearing this.
Ya!!!
just to be sure, this is a joke right?
@@rockroll4107 don’t think so. Why? Don’t you think this cover of the song is great?
@@JoudTheTree bro, the song is an Eric Clapton original, Eric Clapton made the song
@@rockroll4107
You might want to look that up.
If you're saying Clapton helped make it more popular, sure, but it's a Bob Marley song.
Nothing will ever be compared to marley singing to this bruh
I think Bob Marley would have loved Eric Clapton's interpretation of his song.
Totally!
No because Bob Marley knew this version and hate it because he has been robbed by Eric Clapton. This man stole this song, it's scandalous

At 63, the thing that stands out the most for me is that i remember these guys when they looked different. Visually, they seemed younger...but I feel exactly the way i felt then. A spaceship travels 10 years in space. When it gets back, 100 years have passed. I think i want my mommy...

Schön dass es Eric Clapton gibt.

this spirited live version shows that clapton is able to weave his own guitar magic on the song without smothering it.
Clapton's dynamics are what makes him so special to me. He has the ability to play with high energy and shred like he's getting paid by the note, but the solo in this track just builds. The way he layers the foundation and builds to the climax is incredible.
They'll worship him for his flash, but they'll keep coming back for that technique.
Man that bass player is AWESOME!

Magic for the soul
Beautifully put, I quite agree🎼💕🎼
It seems to me that Eric changed lyrics a bit, didn't he?
They have been met such a legend,❤️❤️❤️

I think you are all wrong. This song is Erik`s song. He discovered Marley and gave him this lyrics. Rest is history.

Best version of this he had ever done.
I’ve seen him do this 7 times this was best. Great concert, long day.

No one will make a cover of this song as Eric Clapton did in this.
I love the fact that they adequately show the background singers in this video. It's amazing rare, even when their role is very important.

Have you listened to the original version by Bob Marley?
The reason I hate this rendition of this song is because this artist changed a very powerful line in the lyric.
"Every time I plant a seed
He said kill it before it grow
He said kill *THEM* (black people) before they grow."
This is why I dont feel like reggae music is for white people because this is what they do everytime they dip into our shit. Reggae was created to scream out the struggles of my people, not for people like this guy to manipulate the lyrics and change the meaning.
X Campbell Yes, I did, but I prefer this version
That guitar solo actually killed the sheriff.

Can't believe this was a decade ago. The music quality is still so banging clean!
Bob Marley is the man. Who could have known that reggae would translate so well into rock n roll.
They’re killing it, Eric Clapton ❤
What's really emotional here is seeing Ronnie Wood in the audience cheering on his friend. 50 years ago, Ronnie was one of the friends who coaxed Eric off heroin and they both participated in the legendary Rainbow Concert.
