  • This video is made as a guideline to show you how to replace the mode switch servo motor on a 97-05 Lexus GS. This also applies to most other late 90s and early 2000s Lexus model cars. The process may not be identical but it will be similar.
    I hope it was helpful!
    Parts used in this video:
    - Motor (ULTRA-POWER 604917): www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/l...
    Tools needed & used for this repair:
    - ¼ Inch Socket Set: www.amazon.com/Craftsman-Piec...
    - Ratcheting Screwdriver: www.amazon.com/Neiko-03044A-R...
    Please note that I am not a professional mechanic, nor am I saying that you must do exactly what I say in this video. Perform these repairs at your own risk! Safety first ;)

    Great tutorial. Thank you. I'm a female and did it myself. The mechanic said he was going to have to remove the whole dash to get to the actuator and it would take 8 hours to repair. I am so happy I was able to do this on own.

    I was able to get the servo out thanks to you, whoever had the car before me never replaced the third screw in the back so I had a hard time putting the servo back in without the arm falling out if the slot. Also I just reused the old servo, you can open it and clean the potentiometer and contact arms inside with alcohol and use some new white lithium grease. Just make note of the arm position before opening it and be very carful with the clips holding it closed.

      Weird. Check that the compressor clutch engages as it should, also your cooling fans should come on as soon as you turn the AC on. If not both then at least one of them should stay on. Also it's important for the pressure in the AC system to be exactly what it needs to be. Not more not less.

    Hi, I have the problem that it doesn't blow hot on the passenger side. This is a right hand drive as I'm in the UK, The side with 2 servos on the left side as you look at it are working OK as I removed them and tested them. What does the single servo on the drivers side control? I have looked everywhere on the internet and I cannot find what it does. i would like to sort this before bad weather comes. Is there anything else that can affect it like ecu or control problem?

    • @AutoFixYT
      @AutoFixYT  3 роки тому +1

      No it sounds to me like your issue is just something to do with the blend door actuator. Locate the heater core box and the blower motor. Near that should be two actuator that control heat. One for driver's side, one for passenger's side. While pressing the temp control buttons, listen down there for noise and locate which one is working and which one isn't. The one that isn't is your culprit. Replace it and you should be all set. It's a common issue on these cars.
      I cannot tell you specifically which one it is because I've never had to replace it but that is how I would locate it.
      Hope this helps!

      Yes there is one but I'm not sure where it's hidden. If you take the glove box out I'm sure you will get to it somehow, but it's not out in the open like on most other vehicles (I guess Lexus thinks of all the small details too lol).

  • @billyking6229
    @billyking6229 3 роки тому +1

    Would I need to do the same procedure if the temperature does not change from hot to cold and vice versa? The passenger side can switch from hot to cold with no problem but the drivers side will only change if I turn the car off, let it the engine cool off and maybe get lucky for a change in temperature when I start it back up. Weird situation and unfortunate because I need the heat in the morning since it’s cold but then it gets to around 80 in the afternoon and I need the A/C but it won’t change. Let me know what you think. Thanks

    • @AutoFixYT
      @AutoFixYT  3 роки тому +1

      It would be a very similar procedure, except that you have to find the location of the blend door actuator for the driver's side. The blend door is what blocks and unblocks the heater core to allow or block the heat. Because this car has dual climate control, it should have two blend doors. Find the location for the driver's side one. First test the actuator (motor). Hopefully that's your issue. When you test it make sure you test it while it's still mounted and connected. You want it to be under load and in its original position. If it skips around or doesn't work at all, or maybe it works very slowly, then it'sdefective. If that works well then there may be a problem with the blend door itself. I'm not sure of the location of the blend door for the driver's side, but some digging on the internet should get you that answer. Hope this helps!

    I took out the old mode servo, then wired up the new one before installing, it worked great, then i installed and reconnected new servo and it doesn't work. Did I blow a fuse? And if so, which one and where is it located?

    • @AutoFixYT
      @AutoFixYT  2 роки тому

      As long as the wiring is still ok, it might not be a fuse. However that is always a good place to start. Look in your owner's manual and find the fuse box location for the interior fuses. Then on the cap of the fuse box there should be a diagram that tell you all of the fuses.
      Also, make sure you didn't bind up the little motor when you installed the actuator. If it's bound up it won't move.

      @@AutoFixYT Thank you so much for responding. Car was stolen last year and they took the owner's manual and covers to the fuse boxes, so I'm buying those from ebay (probably the guy who took them), and will then be able to check fuses.
      I tried the servo unmounted and still doesn't work. Guess I need to figure out how to check the wiring, assuming I might have pulled a wire loose from the connector? Guess I'll have to learn how to use a multi-meter?

      Lexus provides the owner's manual in PDF form on their website for all of their vehicles, so before you buy it consider that since it's free and you can have it on your phone at all times.
      As for the fuse box covers, eBay or the junkyard are good places to find them

    • @AutoFixYT
      @AutoFixYT  3 роки тому +1

      Well for the mode selector just do what I show in this video and you'll be all set. As for the cold and hot thing... I think it's a blend door issue with the dual climate control. Since it only works on the passenger side, first check that you have enough refrigerant in the system. If you don't, that's what can happen. Assuming you do have the proper amount, you'll need to replace the blend door actuator for the driver's side (but first make sure that's actually what's wrong), maybe the door itself is broken or stuck.
      If you fox those two then you'll have working HVAC again!

      No. It sounds like your issue is a blend door actuator/motor. There are two. One for the driver's side, one for the passenger's side, because of the dual climate control.
      Your issue must be the pass. side actuator, it's probably dead and stuck on cold.

    My ac compressor is spinning, I tried to added ac pro but my gauge went to red. Now I noticed my control climates aren’t switching. Lights and lcd works but nothing switches. I think it’s affecting my ac button. What could it be?

    • @AutoFixYT
      @AutoFixYT  3 роки тому

      Ok start off with checking the pressure in your AC system. Either buy the full gauge set or have a shop check it, because modern AC compressors won't turn on if the system is slightly undercharged or even slightly overcharged. So make sure your high pressure side and low pressure side are within spec (not just the high side). After that, if the AC still doesn't work, you can start diagnosing further. Make sure the compressor is getting a proper signal to turn on. If not, it's an electrical issue. If it is getting a proper signal and it has the right amount of refrigerant in the system, have the compressor checked out because it may be a bad clutch or have faulty internals not allowing it to turn on. Hope this helps!

    • @Iceyboy300

      Auto Fix thanks for responding. When put the full gauge on the low side, the gauge spikes to the red zone. I think it might be electrical because why would my front and rear vent mode would stop switching all of a sudden.

      @AutoFixYT  3 роки тому

      Ok in this case there may be something mechanically wrong with the doors that open and close. You're gonna want to test those out by hand. Also when you have the actuator out, press the button to activate it and hold pressure on the shaft with your finger, and see if it clicks. Maybe it's bad internally and can't hold much pressure? Such as the gears being stripped. Just a thought. Not sur what else could be wrong.

      Could be a bad blend door actuator. Don't add refrigerant unless you know it needs it. An improper amount can cause damage to the system. Have it checked with a set of professional gauges so you know the pressure on the low and the high side.
