The Seminole tribal council officially endorses the use of Chief Osceola's image and likeness by the university. They have specific requirements for his dress and make-up in order to depict him in an accurate and dignified way. Students who assume the role are given detailed information about Chief Osceola specifically, as well as Seminole history and culture in a broader sense.
The Seminole nation is the only indigenous tribe never to have signed a treaty with the US government. Thus, they regard themselves as an unconquered people.
Or, so goes the story. Like many absolute claims, I'm sure a stickler could poke holes in it. Regardless of the details, Florida State is well onside as far as decency is concerned. They have made a sincere effort to gain approval of the use of the Seminole name and to do right by it.

13:09 Chief Osceola is honoring the Seminole tribe of Native Americans from south Florida. As does the warchant(the song that you heard). Florida State has been working with the Seminole tribe for decades to assure that they're honorably representing the Seminoles in a respectful way...as opposed to simply culturally appropriating them as a bunch of other teams have done.

The question at the 11:10 mark ,"do the opposing fans travel" can be answered. In the SEC the teams are required by the league to offer at least 10,000 seats to visiting teams. They do not have to take them all but most do. About the Vol Navy. Technically the coast guard can give a DWI in Tn but very rare occurrence (esp at a home Vol game.)

And it depends on the schools as well, as some have fanbases that are either large enough that regardless of where they're playing they have fans nearby, or are willing to travel to support their school. That's one thing being a Nebraska fan we can still be proud of is our fans' turnout even on the road. But no one's really missing out on much leaving Nebraska for a few days, hence the willingness to get the hell out of here.

Except for neutral site games the vast majority of a crowd will be home team fans. Where the visiting fans sit varies depending on how they came about their ticket. Most colleges will have a section dedicated to the visiting teams’ season ticket holders but if a visiting fan just buys their ticket individually like anyone else they’ll just be blended into the rest of the crowd.

The person with the sword is actually the Drum Major for the University of Southern California Trojans. They begin their pregame music with the stabbing of the field (even when on the road). It is not always a man either. In 2019, the Drum Major was a woman who honestly did the stab better than some men in the past! #FightOn

The college stadium with by far the best water access is Husky Stadium at the University of Washington. The stadium sits right on lake Washington, you can park your boat and walk directly into the stadium. Not like the craptastic garbage at Tennessee where you have to park your boat in the river next to an industrial plant, get off, walk down and across the street and then use the standard stadium entrance. Husky Stadium created sailgating, and nobody does it better. And when you combine the sailgating with the impressive views of Lake Washington and both the Cascades and Olympic Mountains from inside, you understand why Husky Stadium is referd to as "The Greatest Setting in College Sports".

Most college football games have a section (usually behind the visitors sideline) where they reserve a block of seats for the visiting team. Other fans and supporters of a visiting team will buy whatever seats are available. There are obviously more students who go to away games when they are closer to their campus. The school I am sure has bus transportation available for their students to go. Also a lot of college football conferences and teams do not sell alcohol at college games partially to eliminate bad behavior and also because with the drinking age in the US at 21 nowadays most college students are not officially allowed to drink. As for FSU mascots Osceola and Renegade, they became the official mascots for the school around 1978 I believe. The 1st person to portray Osceola's family now selects the students who will get to play the part. There is a 2 year apprenticeship of sorts and the student must meet physical requirements and riding ability and maintain a minimum of (I believe) a 3.0 grade point avg. The costume and all related things are with the approval of the Seminole Nations leadership. The person portraying Osceola is required to maintain character and be on best behavior whenever in costume and at all times be respectful of the dignity of the Seminole people. The person now portraying Osceola is the 16th person to have been chosen for that job. Cheers Guys!!

At 2:59...that is my college Auburn University. Went to school there, got my degree, worked there and retired from there. I attend all of the home games and like most colleges, we have our traditions as well. Our team is the Auburn Tigers, but War Eagle is our battle cry as it relates to a very old legend involving a Eagle who circled our football field one day during an important game with a rival and it inspired our team to win. So, we let the training Eagle fly as part of our storied tradition. My photo was taken inside the stadium during a game. At 6:30, another tradition, rolling the Toomer's Corner trees located downtown Auburn with toilet paper after a winning football game. WAR EAGLE!

Another thing about Florida State, they were taken to court about our name because other teams or 1 team or just people in general thought we were ruining the Native American name and culture. We went to court and FOUGHT for our name and PROVED that we had the permission of the Seminole tribe and actually a portion of the money the school makes is given to the tribe. We showed that we had the utmost respect for the Seminole tribe and that’s why we take honor in our name and our traditions at Florida State. Needless to say we won and got to keep our name and mascot.

at most collage sports events in the states, the only separation of fans is the student section. You can very easily tell were this is because it has the most of the home color with little to none of the away team. This is because 1) students get cheaper tickets at home stadiums and 2) they are the most dedicated fans and look way better when all together rather than spread out

So all of the mascots are based on their teams nickname. The Buffalo taking the field was for the Colorado Buffalo's for example so they, like many other schools, have a live mascot. The LSU Tigers have a real live tiger, the Georgia Bulldogs have a bulldog on the sideline, and so on.
Also as far as traveling fans, yes each college team tends to have a pretty decent chunk that travels. Typically maybe 10K and they put a large chunk of them in one section usually the upper deck corners. Other scattered fans typically buy through resell like stubhub. College's are different in that they play in individual geographical conferences so travel is much easier. The biggest conference in college is the Southeastern Conference or SEC for short, Alabama the football powerhouse plays in that conference.

Actually the pre-game antics always have something to do with the school itself and it's heritage. The white covered wagon being pulled around the field where you stopped to discuss this topic is for the Oklahoma "Sooners". The Sooners were the name given to the people who land rushed into the state of Oklahoma to claim land for farming. Many of them "rushed" into soon, or before it was legal to do so, hence the name "Sooner". That covered wagon depicts those people rushing in to grab land.

Most fans in the stands are mixed. There are a few groups who will travel together to away games. I am a Mets fan (MLB) and our die hard fan group is the 7 Line Army. They travel to several away games throughout the year and all sit in a section together. Most fans are just mixed though. In my state of Kentucky, the University of Kentucky (UK) and the University of Louisville (U of L) are huge rivals in every sport, mostly because of basketball, but in ice hockey they have their fans separated because of fights. There is a story that even though they have like a barrier to separate fans there have still been fights through the barrier. Fights mostly only happen amongst big rival teams. There might be other instances of separating fans here in the U.S. that is just the only one I know of.

Official capacity of over 106 thousand, but on a big game, say vs Ohio State, they can pack 111-112k in there. They are still the winningest program in college football despite sucking for the past 15 years. They were the first non Ivy league school to take up the sport.

Florida State football team is named for the Florida Seminoles native American tribe in Florida. The tribe and university work in partnership. The tribe authorizes the use of their name. The clothes worn by the horse rider are authentic Seminole garb and were designed by the tribe. The rider is called Osceola (named for the great Seminole Chief Osceola) and the horse is called Renegade. The rider is never called Chief Osceola as there can only ever be the one Chief Osceola. As a side note, the Seminole tribe was never defeated by or signed a treaty with the U.S. government. They remain a sovereign nation. The Osceola and Renegade symbol (never called mascot) began over 40 years ago.

If you're in the Carolina's, you could go to Knoxville to watch the University of Tennessee and the Vol Navy. It will be a little bit out of your way, but if you can manage to go there during a conference game you will likely not be disappointed. UT has been on hard times, but should still be a better game than University of West Virginia. You could also try to make it to a Clemson game in Clemson, SC.

Florida State University has a lucrative financial arrangement with the Seminole Tribe, so it's not racist. See how that works? That said, the "Indian" planting a flaming spear from a reared-up horse at mid-field is quality. It's really top-tier. Yes, Osceola was his real name; one of Florida's counties is named after him.

For the most part we can coexist even being drunk...places like Philadelphia and LA it's probably best not to advertise you're an away fan...fights happen but as long as you're not being an asshole no one will physically assault you as an away fan...usually. but we have no stadiums that have a separate section for away fans like they do in europe. Some college teams might but that's only bc they have a limited amount of traveling fans who booked tickets through the university

The person who dresses as Chief Osceola is usually a white guy majoring in somethign like accounting. A lot of the Native American mascots are going away. The Seminoles were one of the last and fiercest Indian tribes to hold out against the white man's expansion into their territory. They were warriors.

Im not a Nebraska Husker fan, but I can't believe whoever made this video cut off the rest of that scene where Nebraska Husker's run the tunnel into their majestic stadium. Who did this video?? I wanted to see that stadium and hear that crowd! Nebraska's Memorial stadium has been called by the NCAa "The Cathedral of all Stadiums" and Popular Mechanics rated it #1 in the nation. Rankings were based on the stadiums alone not how large or team ranking. Nebraska fans are so dedicated to their team it has also had the nation's #1 longest consecutive sell out, and EPSN calls them "The Sea of Red." Every game has sold out since 1962!!! Not one empty seat in any game for over 60 years!! They're also the loudest according to ESPN says they shake the windows of nearby buildings! They were also ranked #1 for being the highest tech stadium. So they have the #1 most dedicated fans, and the #1 most impressively built stadium with the #1 technology and this video showed a couple touches on a horseshoe? Wow. I was wanting to see the rest of that shot where they run into the stadium with their iconic theme song and the overhead of that crowd and that immense and gorgeous stadium.

The Alabama version of this song is called "Rammer Jammer" by the fans. However, the band's name for the cadence is "Ole Miss" as it was directly copied from their rivals at Ole Miss and made their own in 1971 when they hired the Ole Miss band director.
    Here is their version: ua-cam.com/video/0Ih9FjoxlgY/v-deo.html

It’s not so much that anything goes as it is about special school traditions or the history of the area. From the east coast USA, there will be schools with older traditions because the states and schools are older. As you go farther West, there are more references to animal mascots or those pertaining to exploring or settling the rest of the US. A good example is Oklahoma’s covered wagon....a symbol of the pioneers who “moved the line” as the west was won. It’s a good sports reference...especially football. Another example is the flying eagle or “War damn eagle” for a school who has a tiger as a mascot but flies the eagle as a team who will conquer your territory. And so forth.
