Those friday night lights are something special. Most of us including me never played football again. But the school, town, and alumni packing the stands, loud as hell, to watch us play was 🤌
The best tradition hands down was not in the video. It is called the Hawkeye wave. At the University of Iowa the football stadium sit right across the street from the hospital. On the 13th floor of the Stead Children’s Hospital, pediatric patients are given the opportunity to watch the game as the hospital is tall enough to look into the stadium. At the end of the first quarter all players, staff, fans, announcers and so many more turn around and wave to the children that are hospitalized watching the game from the 13th floor. It is a tradition that brings people to tears to see the children get the encouragement and support from everyone.
The Tennessee game (the orange stadium) where they took down the goal posts was because Tennessee beat their rival for the first time in 15 years and the fans actually took the goal posts and threw em in the river that's next to the stadium haha
12:23 is Florida State University. The college is part of Seminole Nation and the horse and rider are to depict Chief Osceola and his horse Renegade. In order to be the rider you must be Seminole and the tradition has been passed down in the same family for generations.
The first stadium is Michigan Stadium, nicknamed “The Big House”, has a capacity of around 107,000 but has held as many as 115,000 before. It’s the largest stadium in America and 3rd largest in the world.
Even from a soccer/futbol perspective: Real Madrid played Man United in a friendly at The Big House and attendance was roughly 110k. Top end college stadiums are just a different type of massive
A friend of mine lived just blocks from the stadium when he was going to school there. If he wasn’t attending a game, he knew what was going on during the game from the sheer NOISE coming from the stadium. The noise occasionally rattled his windows.
The song "Dixieland Delight" is by the group Alabama. When they yelled "Roll Tide" that is the Alabama Crimson Tide's motto. They were playing against Auburn which is another Alabama college.
@8:00, Wisconsin does Jump Around between the 3rd and 4th quarters of the game. My brother is a carpenter and his crew did a lot of work in the training rooms underneath the stands at Camp Randall Stadium, where Wisconsin plays. They had to leave about a foot of space between the top of the walls and the ceiling under the stadium to account for the stadium moving up and down during Jump Around.
College football is so big in America, there is a show every Saturday morning during the college football season on ESPN called “College Gameday” where the crew goes to the biggest game of the week and they do the show at the campus where the game of the week is played. Definitely should check out Lee Corso’s best headgear moments, that’s what everybody waits for when College Gameday is on lol
The thing to undestand about college football is thtat it PRE DATES the NFL. And these teams are all over the country (often in rather small towns) rather than in the largest cities. PLus tickets are cheaper and students usually get in free. People with no pro team close by follow their local college team and the athletes are at a pro level. They just don't get paid a salary. College football is like the minor leagues of American Football. But some programs have such storied histories that people genuinely prefer following their college teams to pro teams. I grew up in Tennessee and before the Tennessee Titans NFL team moved there from Houston, we had no professional team in Tennessee so I followed the University of Tennessee. The nearset pro teams were in Atlanta, Cincinnati, St. Louis, and New Orleans. Today there are closer teams like the Titans and the Carolina Panthers in the NFL. But all around the country in small college towns in the autumn on Saturday afternoons the towns swell to two or three times their size and the people flood in to tailgate and then attend the games. Restaurants and hotels make a lot of money. You should check out college football tailgate parties.
What planet are YOU on, that you think students get free tickets? What are you on about? No, not at all. Student tickets are often an option tossed in with tuition payment, but they are most certainly not free, to any school with a real fanbase. Maybe that is true at Tulane or something, but not P4 universities.

The University partners with the tribe to provide social, education and medical services to the tribe and the tribe allows the University to use the image and name. Football is very big in high schools, too, especially in southern states and Texas. I would be driving home from work on a friday, and there was always a big traffic jam of people going to the game. They did the tailgating as well. Eventually, we used to go out to eat after work rather than sit in the traffic.

The biggest College Football stadiums are also bigger than the biggest NFL stadiums. The first one you see, Michigan, is the largest football stadium in the USA. That goal post weighs around 500 pounds. College Football is much older than the NFL, so it has rivalries and traditions that are older than the NFL. Our military academies also have College Football teams. Army, Navy, and Air Force. The Army Navy game is a very big deal. Air Force vs Army, or Air Force vs Navy, don't get as much hype, but are still important. College Football season starts in September, and runs though the end of November. December and January have bowl games. During football season, you have high school games on Friday night, College games mostly on Saturday, and NFL on Sunday, Monday Night, and Thursday Night.
If you want to see a crazy video look up The Battle at Bristol. It's the most attended college football game in history as it took place at Bristol Motor Speedway which was exactly half way between Virginia Tech and Tennessee. Total attendance was 156,990 fans in the stadium. Happened in 2016.
Many of these are also the 'big game' where teams have long standing rivalries with specific other schools/teams. So while if you go to any game it will very much be like this the biggest of the year is the rivalry game. Its often the 'homecoming' game where alumni are especially welcome back and they put on the biggest show possible. Most divisions have about 10 teams but there is one that is always seen as the long standing riverlie. Another thing to consider is that professional teams can move around and are only in a few big cities really. So college teams early on filled that gap of providing a local team to follow. Even if people didn't go to the local school they might follow the team. Now they have moved into essentially the development teams for the professional leagues, the only sport that still has a rich development system out of college is baseball, again for historic reasons.

College football in the US is an amazing spectacle. The first country song playing is at the University of Alabama. !00k fans . Alabama is the premier powerhouse in college football.
I was fortunate enough to play football for Ohio State University back in the mid 80's. So much fun playing every weekend in front of these crazy crowds both home & away. Great reaction!
My team is Kstate which is in smaller conference but still get 55,000 fans to every game. Sold out for the past 20 years. And it’s in the middle of Kansas. 2 1/2 hrs from any big city. Stadium is in the middle of a wheat field.
Every home game for big teams is like this, I’m a big Clemson fan and it’s a small town and we have 88,000 fans every home game, college football is something else!
We tore down the goal post once in Louisville. That was against Florida State. Now, at Louisville, and at most other places, they put security around the goal posts at the end of the game to keep people from tearing them down. They are quite expensive.
When I was in college and we tore the goal post down there was a bar about 1.5 miles away that offered free beer for 1 hour if we got the goal post all the way there. We then cut it in to about 1 foot pieces to take home as a keep sake.
There are multiple dames on Saturday, starting in the early afternoon and going late into the evening. On multiple channels at the same time. Pick the game you wish to watch and the team you will root for. They are regional you must know, So games shown are often teams in states close to where you live.
If you're trying to decided which game to attend, aim for a rival game.. each team has their own rival... for instants Arizona State University and University of Arizona are Rivals and their games are huge. We call it Duel in the Desert.
If you ever go to a college game, line up some friends or meet some Americans online that will volunteer to take you through the experience. I see so many Brits go to American college games and just walk right by the tailgates, watch the game, then leave. An American "gameday guide" would give you the full gameday experience. Going to the tailgate area, having burgers and beer, buying some team merch, hanging out, taking part in school traditions in the tailgate area, then going in to watch the game when it's time.
Nashville Tennessee is music city and the home of country music now. The country clip on here was at Alabama. All of the South is big on country music.
many of the stadiums they've shown are close to 100 years old. And a good number of them seat about 100,000. Of course, there have been quite a few million in improvements over the years. The atmosphere at LSU on a Saturday night is hard to duplicate. Wisconsin had the tradition of playing "Jump Around" between the 3rd and 4th quarters. The entire stadium sways. The site of Wisconsin's stadium (Camp Randall) dates back to it's days as a US Civil War (1860's) training location.
Every Saturday during the college football season 45 + stadiums are full with 55,000 - 100,000 fans depending on the stadiums capacity Every Sunday during the NFL season 14 to 16 stadiums are full with 65,000 - 80,000 fans
You guys can catch Florida State (the native team with the fire stick thing) versus Georgia Tech in Dublin, at Aviva Stadium on August 24th, 2024. Last year, or maybe the prior year, the credit card machines broke, so they gave out beer for free. With any luck, it will happen again. The pictures of blokes with one free beer in each hand, were hilarious.
@1:12; try over 110,000 my friend! There hasn't been an attendance of less than 100K at a Michigan game since 1975! (Though it did come close to being broken in 2013 thanks to that POS Dave Brandon, who couldn't even run a pizza company, much less the most prestigious college football program in America!)
College football is the greatest sporting spectacle in the United States! Some stadiums hold up to 108,000 people. People tailgate, people wear their team colors, and people let loose when it’s game time. When you’re in college, everybody in your fraternity or sorority goes to the games, plus thousands of other students. It is the five greatest months of the year!!
The University of South Carolina where Sandstorm is played and the light show is incredible!! Come to America in the fall and I’ll take you to a night game in Columbia. You’ll LOVE the atmosphere!! 🤙
College Football is such a vibe that you don’t need to be drunk. You have chants and traditions that you have current students and former students and their families come to the game. It is the fall air here in the U. S. it does something in the stadiums. I went to Oklahoma State and it was awesome!! There are so many universities here you can get confused with acronyms of which state school is playing 😂
Tennessee is bright orange and sing Rocky Top, University of Texas is burnt orange and has a live longhorn bull named Bevo on the field. Look up the story as to why the bull is named Bevo 😊
The second stadium with the "T" was Tennessee. The University of Tennessee. My favorite University and sports program. They had beaten Alabama for the first time in 15 years. The fans rushed the field and smoked cigars, which is a tradition for the winner in this rivalry. The fans tossed the field goal post into the river next to the stadium. Amazing night!
The Jacksonville Jaguars now have an NFL home game each season in the UK. Last year, there were 4 games in the UK and 2 in Germany. They all looked like packed houses to me on TV. BTW, one of the teams you called Texas was Texas A&M and another one you thought was Texas was actually Alabama. ROLL TIDE!

Before games all fans arrive hours early, park their car and tailgate which means cooking food and drinking heavily before going in the game. This happens at all pro and college football games. There are great videos on the best stadiums for best tailgates. You would love those videos.
The BIG Ten, the largest, oldest and wealthiest conference in the US, originally all upper Midwest schools, is where many of college football traditions started,, from first marching band to break ranks and form letter on field (Purdue) to the country’s largest stadiums to birthplace of college football overall (more recently added Rutgers University of NJ). In the South the SEC conference is football crazed too. The best games and fandom are in those two conferences, with a few others like Notre Dame. It’s important to remember many if these schools have 30 to 65K 18 to 22 year old students living in walking distance to the games, a huge party beyond game itself
@@jaja2753 nah. BIG Ten has biggest stadiums, biggest alumni bases, current natl championship and now with additional schools dominates the current top 25 rankings too. SEC is, as mentioned, a top football conference but reason BIG is biggest and most followed
What you see on this video is a college football(American style) tradition where a lesser team at their home field upset a better team, especially if that team they just beat was a Nationally ranked in the top 25 team, which mean after the game the ESPN net work will broadcast the highlights of this game across the country to give this underdog school national exposure.
The team you saw where you first said it sounded country was Alabama's stadium. They were playing Dixieland Delight by the band Alabama, but the fans add they're own lyrics at the end "Fuck Auburn, and Tennessee, and LSU too!"
Yes it’s a tradition I am a KU fan born and raised they take down the goal posts when we win at home sometimes they don’t but mostly we do especially when an upset then they march it up the hill and drop it in the pond/lake
in the USA Fridays are for High School Football, Saturday is for College Football and Sunday is for Pro Football (NFL)

Tearing down the goalposts after a big victory used to be common but doesn't happen much anymore due to safety concerns.
Nah. Nobody cares about safety. They just made them collapsible so you can't use the weight of the crowd, to break it loose.
And the schools get big penalties for rushing the field that go up each time they do it. Tennessee for example has to pay $250k next time it happens.
@@bigd7481actually when they rushed the field vs Alabama in 2022, they were fined for it but they raised the money almost immediately overnight

They tear down the Field Goal after they won the football game against there rival but it happens all the time! 2:10
The stadium at the beginning is Michigan stadium....the biggest in college football....capacity of 107,601....😊
A buddy of mine still has one of the post from the goal post being teared down from like 2003
I was fortunate enough to play football for Ohio State University back in the mid 80's.
You two are so cute together. Thanks for watching our College game.
Max capacity Michigan stadium 107,601 called the big house. 3rd largest in western hemisphere.
I love how y'all embrace our traditions y'all are great mate.
I enjoy you two so much! Yes, we LOVE our college football. Keep going. We never get tired of it. 😁🇺🇸🤟🏼
FSU warchant with the horse is the best, just played in Ireland 🇮🇪
Country music is most popular across the entire south, which is practically the size of Europe. What do you mean state? It's big in dozens of states.
The sc game with the lights at 7:18 is right after the players come out
If you ever go to a college game, line up some friends or meet some Americans online that will volunteer to take you through the experience.
Several of these stadiums hold over 100,000 people.
as far as how far you can hear it from- LSU's stadium has set off a nearby seismograph. the stadium was so raucous it showed up as an earthquake.
Geaux Tigers. #sttdb!
WHERE OPPONENTS DREAMS COME TO DIE #SaturdayNightInDeathValley
many of the stadiums they've shown are close to 100 years old.
Every Saturday during the college football season 45 + stadiums are full with 55,000 - 100,000 fans depending on the stadiums capacity
Every Sunday during the NFL season 14 to 16 stadiums are full with 65,000 - 80,000 fans
8 colleges boost over 100k seating capacity with Michigan being the largest 107.601
Y’all need to come down to Baton Rouge LA and catch a game in Death Valley
I went to school at the last one (Oregon) and it was always so much fun.
Friday nights is High School Football, College on Saturday, and Pro Football on Sunday, Monday and Thursday nights
Florida State University vs Georgia Tech will be playing in Ireland August 24th if you guys want to see a college game up close.
College football is HUGE in America. Michigan, Penn State and Tennessee have huge stadiums. Over 100,000 people.
As a Miami hurricane I had to fast forward y’all doing the Nole chant. It’s all about the U!!!!
It was Alabama who used the song Dixieland Delight, THEN LSU used a different type of song considered Bayou county
ROLL TIDE!
I grew up with the singer from the Killers in utah. The band who wrote "Mr. Brightside" its so weird to hear it as an anthem for a college team.
The shout was in Oregon since the movie animal house was filmed at that college
The jump around bit is the University of Wisconsin. Wisconsin is known for alcohol consumption. Cheers 🍻
I think a live buffalo (bison) running out on the field to start games at Folsom Field in Boulder Colorado is one of the best traditions.
Taking down a goal post usually only happens when a last minute field goal wins the game. Pretty cool 😎👍
Top college stadiums...
Big House 107,600, Beaver Stadium 106,572, Horseshoe 102,780, Kyle Field 102,321,Tiger Stadium 101,915, Neyland Stadium 100,119 DKR Stadium 100,097, BDS 100,010,..Camp Nou 99,354, Wembley Stadium 90,000
Technically, Neyland is 101,915
It’s hooligans! Great reaction guys!
The very first one is Michigan stadium that can hold up to 110,000 people. The biggest stadium in the US. Also called the big house.
Before games all fans arrive hours early, park their car and tailgate which means cooking food and drinking heavily before going in the game. This happens at all pro and college football games. There are great videos on the best stadiums for best tailgates. You would love those videos.
“Jump Around” registers on the Richter Scale.
College football kicksoff next Saturday with Florida State against Georgia Tech in Ireland
Each University has their own entrance song. Some have exit songs if playing at away games.
SEC in on another level than the Big 10 in every way imaginable, this isn't the 1920s. SEC absolutely owns college football and it isn't close.
@@jaja2753 nah. BIG Ten has biggest stadiums, biggest alumni bases, current natl championship and now with additional schools dominates the current top 25 rankings too. SEC is, as mentioned, a top football conference but reason BIG is biggest and most followed
I think you can Google maps search those goal posts and shows them in the river.
Whenever you see an orange and white checkerboard inside the end zone, it's the University of Tennessee Volunteers.
What you see on this video is a college football(American style) tradition where a lesser team at their home field upset a better team, especially if that team they just beat was a Nationally ranked in the top 25 team, which mean after the game the ESPN net work will broadcast the highlights of this game across the country to give this underdog school national exposure.
Darude - Sandstorm, that rave music from Finland!
The team you saw where you first said it sounded country was Alabama's stadium. They were playing Dixieland Delight by the band Alabama, but the fans add they're own lyrics at the end "Fuck Auburn, and Tennessee, and LSU too!"
LSU Stadium (purple and gold) is called death valley. My alma mater. Tailgating cant be beat there imo
Yes it’s a tradition I am a KU fan born and raised they take down the goal posts when we win at home sometimes they don’t but mostly we do especially when an upset then they march it up the hill and drop it in the pond/lake
FSU has a student dressed up as Chief Osceola and he rides a horse named Renegade
Nothing beats the atmosphere of a big college football game
Out of all the games I’ve been to here in America nothing compares to a college football game in the fall 🔥
